There’s no way a 13 year old girl committed a double murder and escaped this long. 13 year olds can’t drive. She would have to walk or take public transportation without an older person being involved to drive.
Either she and an older man committed the crime together or a man did it alone to kidnap her. Listening to her family talk though it sounds like she was involved.

I grew up in neighboring Eau Claire County. Your assessment sounds accurate to me. My guess on this story is a pedo murdered/abductor did it, maybe somebody the girl knew vaguely whom she'd been friendly/polite to and he cooked up a whole story in his mind of how he was destined to be her boyfriend if he could just get the pesky parents out of the way.

From CNN:
[quote]A sheriff's department dispatch log reveals new information about the night that missing Wisconsin teenager Jayme Closs' parents were found dead -- including that a 911 call appeared to have come from her mother's cell phone, and that the door to the family's home had been kicked in.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 19, 2018 7:57 PM |
I wonder what the authorities know that they're not telling.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 20, 2018 2:11 PM |
It’s sounding more and more like an ambush abduction. From what the police have said, someone was trying to enter through the front door of the Closs house. The father was shot in the face either while answering the door or trying to keep it closed as the door was at some point kicked in. The mom was elsewhere in the house, maybe trying to hide, and at some point was also shot. Neighbors heard gunshots at 1230am. At around 1250 is when the 911 call happened— no one spoke, but the operator said they could hear noise on the other end, possibly yelling. There’s an unconfirmed rumor that the mom was heard saying “Please don’t hurt my daughter.”

by Anonymous | reply 82 | October 21, 2018 1:22 PM |
I think DM misinterpreted the logs. Here’s the transcript:
[quote]115 – 10/15/2018 01:05:19] 317 REQUESTED ERT BE PAGED OUT. ADVISED THE DOOR HAS BEEN KICKED IN. ADVISED THAT THE MALE WHO IS DOWN HAD ANSWERED THE DOOR. UNKNOWN IF ANYONE IS MISSING.
Since it says the dad was down, it sounds like he was down after approaching the door when the perp was trying to get in, not when the cops arrived — “had” answered the door. Typical Fail.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | October 21, 2018 2:06 PM |

How would they know he had answered the door if he was dead? Agree that DM got it wrong but the writing of the cops is less than clear and somewhat speculative, too.

A 13-year-old girl almost certainly has a cell phone...either the police have it, which should be revealing if she had some sort of relationship with the person who did it, or she took it with her, which suggests she went willingly with a co-conspirator (or there's something on the phone he doesn't want the police to see, although I think they can get a record of calls and messages from the provider anyway). Surely the police have searched through her phone and any computers to see who she was communicating with and what about? I sort of feel like they must know some things they're holding back, yet now they're requesting 2000 volunteers to search the local area AND there are missing signs all over far flung states, which makes me think they really have no clue where she is. I guess it's theoretically possible that some creep really wanted to kidnap her and decided to do it the hard way instead of luring her when she was alone, but the whole thing is strange and confusing. The police insist she's a victim and not a suspect; on the one hand they might be lying so that she's more likely to return, but on the other hand, wouldn't they want to warn the public if she could be dangerous?

I know what happened, she wanted to go to the big city, say, Minneapolis but her mother wouldn't let her go, so her other friends, a rich girl, a fat Jewish girl and a lesbian went without her. So she sneaks off but it's cold, so she goes into a Minneapolis cafe where another 13 tries to lure her into prostitution, because her pimps forcing her too.
But then by coincidence, the three friends show up at the same cafe and take her home. The pimp is now pissed because he didn't get no fresh thing, so he follows her home and kills the parents and kidnaps her.

by Anonymous | reply 118 | October 28, 2018 12:58 PM |
That Valessa looks 58 instead of 32. How is she out of jail? The third person in the crime got more time than she did, but she seemed to be more directly involved in killing her mother. Much like Karla Homolka the women seem to get away with murder, literally. It's usually their idea too! Similarly, I can't believe both found big enough morons to marry and father children with them.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | October 28, 2018 3:01 PM |
I dislike Karla Homolka as much as the next person, r119, but Paul Bernardo was a serial rapist long before he met Karla. She got off too easy, sure -- but he's exactly where he belongs
by Anonymous | reply 120 | October 28, 2018 4:17 PM |
R12- Oh, no doubt he is where he belongs, but she should be there too. Yes, he was a rapist, but his crimes escalated because of her. Drugging and raping her sister was Karla's idea, a "present" for Bernardo. She was as twisted as he was. Same with this girl, she should have gotten the same sentence as her boyfriend.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | October 28, 2018 4:36 PM |
Karla got off on a technicality that NEVER should have happened. Blame the incompetence of the police and prosecutors for that one.
Canada has a rather shit record when it comes to incarceration. Vince Li, the man who decaptitaed and cannibalized Tim McLean on a Greyhound bus, has since been released after only nine years in a psych ward- and for most of that time he was allowed daily supervised and unsupervised release. He’s now been allowed to change his name and isn’t required to continue mental health treatment or take meds for his schizophrenia. His crime might as well not have happened. Same for Homolka if the public hasn’t been able to diss out her new identity.

Are you fucking smoking crack r121? I don't care what Karla the Kunt said, no one would be able to talk me into murdering someone. Also, it was a matter of time, look at EAR/ONS they start killing soon to leave no witnesses, Kunt's sister may have lived but Paul would have killed eventually. Nice woman blaming, though.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | October 28, 2018 8:58 PM |
R126- you are an idiot. You do realize Karla worked for a veterinarian and stole a sedative to knock her sister out, so she basically murdered her own sister so that she and her boyfriend could rape her. She also actively covered up the death as well. That was all her plotting on her own. Whether Paul would have murdered or not is all speculation and irrelevant, they both were equally complicit in all crimes and should have both been sentenced the same way. They didn't realize the extent of their involvement until after she cut a deal. You should really read up on the story before you spew nonsense. The experts even said without Karla, Paul would have likely not escalated his crimes. Btw, I am a woman, nice try though. I don't defend child murderers or any murderer because they happen to be female. Evil is evil.

I am also from northwest Wisconsin and over the last year there were a number of police arrests of older guys trying to pick up young teenage girls. It was so common, like two a month. Some of the older guys were really nasty looking . Some were from Barron County where this happened. The guys made their contacts on the internet with the girls. The police set up stings and caught many of them but there must be many more out there. The number of sex offenders (listed) in the area is astounding. Some young girls feel they need a boyfriend because they see other girls with bf's in high school so they go online to find male attention. Then they hook up with the wrong guy and bang, it's all over. The innocent and naive.

I’m not r126, but to your post r127– Paul and Karla were married, not boyfriend/girlfriend.
[quote]The experts even said without Karla, Paul would have likely not escalated his crimes.
Paul is a suspect in at least one murder , Elizabeth Bain, that occurred prior to even meeting Karla. Paul was a violent serial rapist. He, like 99% of other violent serial rapists, would’ve escalated. With or without Karla.

I hate to say it, but I don’t think Jayme Closs is neurotypical. She looks like she’s on the spectrum. Something just isn’t right; she’s “quirky”. Not stupid.
I’d have to guess that she’s been sheltered and finally got some older dude interested in her. The neighbors said they never saw the Closs family outdoors, ever. It made me wonder what that poor kid’s life was like. Makes me think of the Blanchardes.

Jesus, r141. That’s frightening.
R137, I wonder that, too. Judging from photos, the mom wore a lot of makeup and Jayme wore things like shorts and spaghetti straps and sequins; not “modest” the way many religious women appear.
There’s something “off” about that family. The neighbor who heard the gunshots said they never saw the family outside and just saw Jayme walking to the house from the school bus.
At any rate, something terrible happened and I hope that kid is okay.

I love webslueths and how the fraus are going on about how breathtaking Jayme is and how she was sold into sexual slavery because of her stunning beauty...
She's dead or was in on it someway. The killer took her to use as a hostage, then after he got away killed her and probably dumped the body way North. OR
Jayme was in love with the guy and he came to get her, with her knowledge, and the father discovered it and they argued and it got out of hand and the guy shot the mother and father, which Jayme wasn't in on. Now Jayme went with him (willingly) or was again, taken as a hostage

I’d guess that she was a little bit autistic, or at least an oddball kid (I’ve got an oddball kid, I recognize it). She just doesn’t look like a normal 13-year old girl.
And not to be a shit, but her mother looks like a horrorshow. I feel like there was a lot going on there.

by Anonymous | reply 180 | November 9, 2018 5:17 AM |
The Indiana Bridge = Delphi Murders. The thing is one of the murdered teenagers managed to record the killer (or at least whom they are pretty sure is the killer) with her cell phone. The police has audio and video of him, but it still hasn't helped at all.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | November 9, 2018 6:26 AM |
Closs was assumed to be taken alive, because there is no evidence she was killed at the home, and if they killed the mother and father, why not take the kid. And if you killed the girl, why drag her away?
She is almost certainly dead by now, unless she somehow had a hand in the murder, which isn't likely but not impossible either.
[quote]I’d guess that she was a little bit autistic, or at least an oddball kid (I’ve got an oddball kid, I recognize it). She just doesn’t look like a normal 13-year old girl.
She is by all accounts 'normal,' in terms of grades and social skills. She ran cross country and is involved in dance classes. The only thing that is "off" about her is her mother was described as being overprotective.
For instance, she had a caregiver (babysitter) and she is 13 years old. Which is starting to get a bit old for one, but not unheard of. In fact the parents recently changed Jayme's school, when her caregiver moved so Jayme would be closer to her.
Both parents worked at the Jenny-O plant not far from where they lived.

Is there DNA found at the scene?
S) No Comment
Can you comment on evidence collected?
S)No Comment
Was there a sex assault during this invasion?
S)No comment
Rumors of Jayme having 19 year old boyfriend true?
S)Can't comment on that
What is the damage to the chair?
S)No comment on the evidence
Will you release toxicology results from autopsies?
S)We will when the case is ready to be released, we won't release evidence on the bodies, or the shootings or where they were shot. Toxicology takes longer to get back in yet, takes longer to get in and haven't been briefed on that.
Has the whole family including extended family been cleared?
S)Family has been interviewed and cooperating
How long parents deceased?
S)Commotion on phone, 4 minutes later deputies on scene, they were deceased
Why aren't they releasing 911 call?
Good question, that's part of the active investigation I don't think it would help, I think it would put more questions in people's mind .it is poor quality, not from the technical side but poor quality because wherever the phone was in the house was a distance away from , like me doing this interview from in the hallway, you could hear me but you couldn't really hear me.so that's what I mean. Autopsy and 911 calls won't be released until crime is solved

She's dead by now and the killer was likely random, so it won't be solved unless it's by some fluke. There are thousands of unsolved murders, some worse than this.

It just seems so strange, r203. Why not just abduct the girl, and not risk leaving DNA at the crime scene? Why kill the parents?

by Anonymous | reply 212 | November 24, 2018 10:49 AM |
This murder might be hard to solve if it was a case of mistaken identity. The famous murders of In Cold Blood, where a family of parents and children was murdered, was also due to mistaken identity. For instance, if a hit was ordered due to drug activity and the killer got the wrong house, the killer might have had to finish what he started. While he was killing the parents, Jayme ran out the door and he ran after her to kill her, so she was killed away from the house and her body hid in the woods hasn't yet been found. I'm just speculating that there are also more than a few scenarios that don't involve kidnapping or Jayme being involved.
by Anonymous | reply 213 | November 24, 2018 2:07 PM |
That doesn't really make sense, r213. If she were killed near the house, and her body left in the woods, surely they'd have found her by now? I am sure they used cadaver dogs.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | November 24, 2018 2:16 PM |
Dogs are not all that accurate, in blind tests they run less 50%. This accounts for the reason why people are often found where dogs have gone over it. Of course the owners will swear the body was put there after, but it wasn't

Jayme definitely had something to do with this. I wonder what evidence the sheriff has that says she was definitely at home when the parents were shot? R249, More details from Websleuths.
Linked is Google Maps, the specific area where she approached a woman walking her dog and asked for help. Remember Jayme's dog is being looked after by her relatives.
FB posters 10 weeks ago reported KJ-A was likely involved. He's one of the suspects booked today for 2nd degree murder.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | January 11, 2019 2:40 AM |
Wish DL had an erase/edit function. The 2 suspects I said were booked earlier may not be the perps.
LE made arrests at 5:00 pm. Question of booking time of the other two young adults. We think they were booked in WI after being questioned and interviewed.
Jayme was sent to the hospital where she was met by her aunt. Grandfather took the initial call from LE. Both were surprised and thrilled that she was found alive and relatively healthy.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | January 11, 2019 2:47 AM |
The murder happened in October and it's now January. If it's like a similar incident where a girl is being held captive in a basement and manages to break out and run for help, then I could believe that she's the victim and not part of the crime. But if that's not the case, then I think that ups the odds of her being involved.

So who wants to bet that she wasn’t involved in the murder?
Who wants to bet that she was?
All of you who end up having been wrong are going to be named and shamed.
by Anonymous | reply 260 | January 11, 2019 3:46 AM |
Of course she was in on it but as she's a child, her family will have to "forgive" her for her involvement
by Anonymous | reply 262 | January 11, 2019 3:59 AM |
She was found malnourished, dirty with matted hair, and wearing shoes too big. Apparently she had been living in an abandoned cabin in a wooded area when she was finally able to escape and seek help.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | January 11, 2019 4:26 AM |
I don't think she was involved. I'll be surprised if it's someone under 40.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | January 11, 2019 11:10 AM |
Jamie Closs didn't know where she was when she approached the woman walking her dog, screaming for help. She did know who had her and gave a description of his car.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | January 11, 2019 11:26 AM |
Jayme was found malnourished. Late Thursday, investigators blocked all streets leading to a cabin in the 14100 block of S. Eau Claire Acres Circle as they combed for evidence. The residence is believed to be that of the 21-year-old suspect, who is reportedly being held in the Douglas County jail.

Wow -- didn't think she'd turn up alive.

If you're interested in gossip read this thread, they are going nuts there.
by Anonymous | reply 269 | January 11, 2019 12:36 PM |
R269, You're correct, although thanks for the link. They're speculating on internet rumors re the perps name, "Peterson" or "Patterson." Sounds like he found an older cabin not in use during the winter. Obviously they didn't have a good source of running water as Jayme was dirty and her hair matted. Plus she was very thin, malnourished.
by Anonymous | reply 270 | January 11, 2019 12:54 PM |
I thought the outcome wouldn't be good here, but it's wonderful that she was found. I can't (or can, but unfathomable) imagine what this poor girl endured. Thank goodness she's alive.
by Anonymous | reply 271 | January 11, 2019 1:10 PM |
Parents murdered, girl disappears without her beloved dog. Internet concludes the 13 year old colluded in her parents’ death. Why? “It would make sense.”
The world truly is coming to an end.
by Anonymous | reply 272 | January 11, 2019 1:54 PM |
Christ those bitches are rabid on that thread R269, they're determined that she was in on it no matter what. This is why I'd never want a trial by jury.

Sheriff said the kidnapper took proactive steps to conceal his identity before the kidnapping. They said their was no prior contact between the suspect and the family at large (note how that might exclude Jayme)
by Anonymous | reply 294 | January 11, 2019 3:16 PM |
Sorry R293, we hate ourselves now. You were right as usual.

Sadly some will never let that go R293, regardless of the evidence.

You are then suggesting, then, that Jayme was not part of her own family? What else are you trying to tell us without a scintilla of evidence? If you're going to try to be Jessica Fletcher, you need more chops.

My guess is its similar to the CT case, where a random creeper latched onto a young girl and targeted the family to get to her.

He was unemployed, so you wonder who is supporting him? The strange thing is the way Jayme's family and law enforcement seemed to know she was still alive. If you look to their TV appearances, they are directed at Jayme to return home.
by Anonymous | reply 313 | January 11, 2019 3:45 PM |
They probably assumed he'd taken her for sexual purposes R313, so that he'd likely keep her alive for at least some period of time but would plan on killing her at some point. It is shocking that he kept her so long, which luckily was his downfall.

I don't know how the fuck you recover from seeing your parents murdered, being abducted and (doubless) raped repeatedly for three months in a filthy cabin at age 13 by the world's creepiest 21 year old psycho. R281, I think it was something like that. Not that she plotted to have her parents KILLED, but she got in deeper than she intended and couldn’t find her way out of it. She’s a victim, 100%.
There are cases like this that make me wonder. Sometimes girls are so sheltered and live circumscribed lives that something dark and dangerous is preferable. So it seems exciting to go along with the bad boy, and then it gets REALLY dark and that’s where they are victims.
It’s a theme in books and movies.

It's pretty clear she wasn't involved in the murders. How would her parents death be to her advantage? If she'd wanted to be with this man they'd have just run off together - how romantic to a 13 year old girl.
I suspect he killed the parents because they were an obstacle. Jayme said she couldn't be with him because of them either because she was using them as an excuse - she realised that the cute guy she was talking with over the Internet was, in reality, butt ugly/creepy or she was a good girl who didn't want to disappoint them

R342 Yeah that was Elizabeth's shitfuckcunt parents who did that public harp recital display bullshit to her. She had barely been back from her ordeal and they had her out in front of the cameras in a national broadcast all prettied up to show how she was still so virginal and sweet, complete with harp. R357, R358, LDS followers strongly believe in "the power of prayer." Likely she would have talked extensively to Elders at her church, and tried to forgive the perp per their instructions. Also to trust in the Lord re her future life.
Personally I believe speaking out publicly as she's been on the lecture circuit, to try and help other victims of various extreme tragedies, may be a major part of her ongoing healing process. She's active in missing and exploited children groups and tries to assist their grieving families. In a sense she's attempting to give reason and meaning to suppressed emotional and physical pain and anxiety.

R360 That is true, they do. But there are licensed therapists who themselves are practicing Mormons. It isn't verboten by the Church to see a therapist. However, of course, the Smart family are better than the average Mormon *sarcasm*. It is heartening to see her work with others. She doesn't seem nearly as craven as her parents, though I do wonder if she is still under their thrall to a large extent.

R359, it's blowing up on Reddit. One poster found the perp's brother's criminal record. Another poster has a friend who knows the perp's dad. And then there was a Reddit thread a few weeks ago (now removed) that had a poster calling himself "barronbowhunter" who was giving very detailed theories about the kidnapping, as well as talking about how young girls are the best to have sex with, and they're like expired milk once they turn 18. That creeped out enough people that they took screenshots and sent them to the cops, and the mods deleted that thread.

Jeff Bezos doesn’t give a shit about the media reporting in his affair, R367. He released a statement through a spokesman saying he supports journalism and has no intention of trying to get media outlets to stop talking about him. He basically shrugged and said, “Go ahead. Talk about me. No biggie.”

I always take a cellphone with me when I go for a walk. I could get hit by a car or a dog might try to attack me. After calling 911 I’d use the strobe light/police siren app on my phone and point it right in the dog’s eyes and turn the volume all the way up.
I mean Jesus, if you’re walking a dog you should worry that a pit bull could attack your dog ...,even if your dog is also a pit bull. Not to mention coyotes.

I've been to that part of Wisconsin and it's so very rural. Outside of Superior which is a suburb of Duluth cell phone reception is spotty. So she could've had the cell phone with her but no reception?
Also Jayme appears to be in good shape. They say she was thin but the picture taken of her after, doesn't look that different, so maybe she was thin already.
Jennie-O is a big employer in that area, so it's not unusual that most people in the area will have worked there at one time. Nor is it unusual he only worked one day. I work in hospitality and in that field, working one day and quitting is common. Most places prefer if you're going to quit, to do it quickly so you don't waste everyone's time.
If you remember the guy who broke into the house to steal Jayme's undergarments was also employed by the Jennie-O plant at one time. He was cleared of any involvement.
What they say is: Jayme nor the family had no prior contact with this guy. The guy killed the parents with the express purpose of taking Jayme. He was out looking for her when arrested. He offered no resistance when arrested. The lady who Jayme ran to was a former child protective custody worker. She took Jayme to the home where they offered her food and drink and she declined both. They said her demeanor was calm and relaxed once they got her to the house and called 911. She remained there for 20 minutes before the cops got her. Whether or not she was sexually abused isn't said, but she is in excellent physical shape.
Get this the lady who Jayme went for help, her last name is Nutter. And her husband is Forrest Nutter.
Police say everyone including the suspects brother has been cooperating with law enforcement but the father of the suspect has not been located yet.

Whatever happened, that child is going to need serious help. I hope she gets more help than poor Elizabeth Smart. I really like Smart, but I wish she didn’t have to make her living being a paid guest at dinner parties.
And I still wonder if her captivity with that weirdo and his wife wasn’t a little more freedom than she was allowed in her weird home. Out of the frying pan into the fire.
Hope she’s really okay. I remember how happy I was that she was found alive.

Ummmm, except that the girl is, well, a girl, not an adult. She didn't and still doesn't have that sort of autonomy before the law.
Have you never read anything about the Dee Dee Blanchard case, mentioned at least twice upthread? Even though the girl WAS of age, she still had her mother killed.

R393 Exactly how does one 13 yr old have one pervert break into the house and steal her panties and another kill her parents and kidnap her? Something else is going on here. This definitely reminds me of Gypsy. The police need to dig deeper because something is rotten in Denmark.

[quote]Exactly how does one 13 yr old have one pervert break into the house and steal her panties and another kill her parents and kidnap her?
That happened a couple weeks after she was taken and of course her picture was splattered all over the place. Also the panty thief, was known to the police because he had been arrested before for the same crime, stealing underwear. He was transitioning and my theory is crime scene clothes would either make him some money, yes people pay for things like this or he got a thrill out of wearing someone else's under things.
Remember most people assumed by this point she would never be found alive.

Of course he was.

The suspect seemed to be rather smart. For instance the night of his crime he completely shaved his head and took steps to make sure he'd leave no DNA and foot tracks.
The police obviously lied when they said the door had been kicked in, many at Websleuths noticed the door looked like it was shot, which it was. The means the neighbors who said they heard two shots, were wrong. At least three must have been fired.
The fact that the girl was dirty was likely in her favor as rapists usually encourage bathing to wash away evidence. The cabin was a full time residence with power and water running. The odd thing about that is the father of the suspect, the owner, just transferred the title of the cabin to the credit union, after failing to pay taxes on the cabin for more than a year. So the father didn't even owner. This transfer occurs two weeks after the crime.
The other odd thing is Jayme knew his name. So either this idiot told her his full name or she saw it somehow.
by Anonymous | reply 398 | January 12, 2019 9:51 AM |

I think much more is going to shake down in the weeks to come. I doubt she was totally innocent in this, and I am not saying this to be a dick. So much feels a wee bit too pat. Right down to the person walking the dog she chased down who didn't have a cell phone, and happened to be a "former child protective custody worker." If true. What are the fucking odds? There is more than a whiff of hinky here.

I've seen this episode of Criminal Minds. She hates her parents, and so lures a crazy into killing them, but she's too immature to realize he's psycho and will kidnap her after-the-fact. The BAU shows up at the cabin, though, and saves her, not an old woman.

There's a possibility she chatted with this guy while gaming online, or some such online interaction outside of social media, without ever knowing who she really was chatting with. Just a casual convo on her part, but maybe she didn't realize the person she was chatting with knew who she was. Or maybe she unwittingly let slip enough details about herself and where she lived for him to track her down.
Or he could've simply spotted her around town, gotten fixated on her, and began making plans. Barron is a small town. So the odds of him seeing her around town are very good, as are the odds of him coming to Barron to drink, shop, or hang out, because there's so little to do in that part of Wisconsin. And if he'd been fantasizing about kidnapping a girl for his very own, first thing he'd have realized is that he couldn't nab one in his immediate vicinity.

by Anonymous | reply 410 | January 12, 2019 3:23 PM |
Who knows? Maybe he read The Collector one too many times and thought it would be cool to keep a girl captive in his basement. Maybe part of his fantasy involved blowing the parents away. We’ll find it all out eventually.
The fraus on this thread seem to think that there has to be some tv show twist. Maybe this is just a creep kidnapping a kid.

[quote]There's a possibility she chatted with this guy while gaming online, or some such online interaction outside of social media, without ever knowing who she really was chatting with
The family computer and her phone was thoroughly searched, so unless she somehow got a burner phone, it's not likely she talked with him online or via text.
Her own significant time not in Barron, is when she ran cross country and attended dance classes in Rice Lake (a town of almost 9.000), Wisconsin.
by Anonymous | reply 412 | January 12, 2019 3:48 PM |
I'm actually less and less convinced she was involved. I think it was more of a Shasta Groene type of thing. If Jayme had anything to do with this guy, he'll probably tell the police that, e.g. "She begged me to kill her abusive parents, I was just rescuing her!" If he doesn't claim to have had a prior relationship with her, it's pretty unlikely...

It's of the aunt who funcitoned as her babysitter (labeled caretaker by the press, and is now her legal guardian) and her dog, the one that was at home when her parents were killed.

Am I turning into an old fart for thinking a selfie with aunty posted publicly so soon after Jayme was found is odd? I realize it was posted by her aunt on a FB page dedicated to Jayme, and people are interested to see her after her safe return. But a photo that looks like any old selfie someone would take while hanging with their aunt gave me pause. (Or maybe I’m just a jaded bitch after Hannah Anderson. Of course, no sign Jayme is going to behave like her. Heck, it was her aunt posting the picture.)

Jayme's parents dropped her off at her aunt's house in the morning, before going to work. They picked her up at night. At one point the aunt moved away from the area, and Jayme had to change schools. Wonder how that affected her attitude towards her parents.

R419, Clearly Jayme was spending more time at her aunt's home than her parents, with the exception of when she was asleep. There are holes in this case as the media has reported it. Not saying Jayme's necessarily involved in any way in her parents' murder. Just that I'm undecided and waiting for more info. Of course she could have said something to someone that was somehow misinterpreted too.

From his dad, who signed over the title of his house to him. Apparently the dad is trying to distance himself from his pervy sons, telling the cops he has nothing to do with them. But I'm sure he still gives them money like most other enabling parents of troubled adult offspring who don't want them sleeping on the street.

Elizabeth Smart’s family did an exclusive magazine article after her rescue, I think with People. The pedo probably catfished her, pretended to be a high school guy, who flattered her, told her how special she was, the usual BS, promised her who knows what, that they would run away from that one horse town, etc, so she let him into the house and came to regret it. I'm always amazed how naive and socially retarded kids these days are:, falling for any sign of (fake) attention and affection on social media.

I doubt she had anything to do with the murder of her parents, but it wouldn't surprise me if she were involved with the killer. The poor girl is on the homely side and may have been desperate for attention and approval since boys her age were probably focused on the cuter girls at school. 13 is when kids really start noticing who they are attracted to and who is attracted to them (of course, I'm talking about same aged peers, not a 20 year old creep). It wouldn't be her fault, I think the guy could have picked up on her insecurities and groomed her. I think the parents found out about the relationship and freaked out, so he killed them and absconded with her.

R472, I'd love to know how the perp 1st connected with Jayme Closs. Did he see her walking down the street and then follow her home? At this point it just seems so random.
Sure girls get kidnapped, even in small towns. However the perp doesn't show up in the middle of the night at their home and murder their parents in most kidnapping cases. Easier to grab them when they're walking alone.

R477, Do you think that the sheriff purposely gave out that info so skeptics wouldn't convince the public to stop looking for her? Media usually shies away from continuously reporting when the victim has a tarnished reputation. So many rude people today are so inconsiderate, and make up the worst possible stories about strangers. Can you imagine being one of Jayme's relatives and having to read comments of how she plotted to kill her own parents?

R479, Just speculating, do you think the sheriff didn't want to reveal any of the insider info he knew about this case because it would make Jayme's parents look bad? Her innocent relatives would have to deal with the shame. When Jayme was rescued she'd also have to carry the burden, gossips can be so mean. Some say you shouldn't speak ill of the dead anyway.
There has been online guesses that the parents could have had gambling debts, or used or dealt drugs, or knew some bad people through working at Jennie-O or elsewhere. Please don't dis me as admittedly I'm repeating unproven, random gossip. IMHO the perp (perps?) went to Jayme's house with the intention of killing her parents. LE said it resembled a pro hit, and not by a clueless Incel. Honestly did he really act 100% alone?
by Anonymous | reply 481 | January 13, 2019 9:26 AM |
I agree with others here who have criticized the thirsty, attention whores in her extended family. WTF? This girl is still recovering from an unimaginable trauma. She should be shielded for weeks, if not months as she slowly gets her life back while receiving intense therapy. Posting smiling selfies on SM? JFC! How clueless and crass can you be?
BTW, I heard when they found her she was thin and frail. No sign of that in those pics. She looks healthy and fit to me. No worse for wear.

It does appear she was not physically abused, but if she was sexually abused, that's another kettle of fish.
Can you imagine having that weirdo as your first? Thank God, they can give her pills to prevent or end any pregnancy she might have had, if she was sexually molested.
[quote] I'd love to know how the perp 1st connected with Jayme Closs. Did he see her walking down the street and then follow her home? At this point it just seems so random.
as for that it is random but so what? I live in Chicago and random acts of violence happen all the time. Of course in the city the journalists usually victim blame too.
There will be an indictment on Monday. I don't know if he'll plead guilty, he definitely is a few bricks short of a load but since Wisconsin doesn't have a death penalty he has nothing to lose by pleading not guilty. It was obviously two premeditated murders, so he isn't going anywhere ever, well hopefully.

School classmates said he wanted to be a Marine. Even with issues recruiting seems they got to know him a bit and gave a hard pass. Someone must know the story there.
Something about all of this is off, including the extended family. So the aunt she is with was her before and after school childcare? And the aunt moving led to her changing schools? Sounds more like the parents wanted to transfer her and the aunt moving provided residency elsewhere? Dunno. Wonder when she will go back to school. Regardless of back story, poor kid.

Or he doesn’t want to jeopardize the state’s case against this guy by saying the wrong thing or giving fuel to his defense team if he gets one. This is law enforcement 101.
[quote]BTW, I heard when they found her she was thin and frail. No sign of that in those pics. She looks healthy and fit to me. No worse for wear.
Yes dear. Because those photos of her bundled up in layers of clothes, mostly shot from the shoulders up, are sure to tell the whole story. No need to investigate, madame frau at r482 has it solved.

Ugh, at his resume 'highlights'. I'm sure he also thought of, and described himself "I'm a nice guy!" and 'a catch'. Because, of course, stalkers/rapists/murderers are such (to themselves and to some wackos on DL if they look a certain way).
It would say quite a bit if he was considered too fucked up to be untrainable for the military.

R453, the front door lock to the home was blown off with a shotgun. It was a forced entry, therefore no one opened the door for this psycho and let him in.
There is zero evidence or indications that Jayme or anyone in her family had communicated with the murderer/kidnapper previously.
This creep somehow spotted this girl and stalked her. He murdered her parents specifically for the purpose of succeeding in the kidnapping of their child.
I am always puzzled that people cannot fathom that there are people in our society capable of doing something like this with no participation from the victims.
There are some REALLY sick fucks out there. All that has to happen is that some sick fuck becomes fixated and determined to harm you, and depending on a number of variables, they might succeed in carrying out harm towards you and/or your family.
Why are some of you so mystified over the concept that really bad shit can happen to anyone, while the victim being unaware that they are about to be seriously harmed?

The sheriff and the media has made a big deal about the fact that the kidnapper shaved his head to minimize his forensic footprint. But, would that really matter ? He had no criminal record and they had absolutely no clue who he was. So, his DNA is not on file any place. Even if he had left hairs at the scene, they would have been no good to police.

The parents both work at the Jennie-O plant. So the aunt would pick her up after school and let her stay at her house till the parents could get her. When the aunt moved it was too far for the aunt so the parents changed the school, so the aunt could still get her.
I imagine with Jayme being 13 she was getting a little bit too old to need a babysitter though.

Here’s my theory: parents were drug users, incel was a dealer. They owed him money. He took the daughter as payment and killed them.
The aunt knew the parents were skeevy, so she cared for the daughter while they were at home getting high. The aunt has been the real parent for years.
The sheriff knows the parents had drug issues. They’ve been known to the police before all of this as drug users.

Because he thought it was cool or something. He probably saw it on some crime show. By the sheriff pointing this out it also sends the message that this guy taking such measures still didn’t prevent him from being found and arrested.

Yes, we ARE a lot smarter and more compassionate than her hick relatives. Thank you for acknowledging it. The girl is 13. She isn't the one who took the pics and she didn't posted them. Her tone deaf, fame hungry relatives did. Who knows if she even wanted to be exposed that way? She may have reluctantly gone along with it at their insistence---the victim once again. Fact is, the aunt should be protecting her, not flaunting her own virtue.
by Anonymous | reply 511 | January 14, 2019 5:27 AM |
R506, no, I don’t think that because of online gossip. I think it because I knew a man with a long record for drug offenses. He did time in prison for stealing to support his habit. After prison, he moved into an apartment where a lot of drug addicts lived, went back on drugs immediately and became a drug dealer. He was murdered by two drug addict “friends” that stole his drugs.
There was a long investigation of this situation. Eventually it was found that the dealer was surrounding himself with an entire group of very skeevy, messed up people, and that’s what led to his death. The police knew of all of these people, they all had records. They were known to be in and out of prison like a revolving door.
The police said it was inevitable that people like that either die or end up doing long sentences eventually as they deteriorate further and start robbing people to pay for their habit, or maybe move up to killing people to get drugs.
During the investigation, some of the dealer’s friends were interviewed. They had sad, tragic lives and extremely low standards about what was acceptable or normal. Living in extreme poverty, without even the basic levels of cleanliness or possessions. Just destitute. They weren’t raised like you and me, they just were doomed from the start for various reasons. Abuse, neglect, druggie parents, molestation. They never had a chance.
It really opened my eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 512 | January 14, 2019 5:45 AM |
Another thing I found very significant is that the girl was essentially living with her aunt. Either the parents weren’t fit due to drug use or other reasons, or there was something illegal going on at home the adults didn’t want the girl to see or be a part of. If you’re trying to hide something, don’t do it in front of a teenager.
I’m aware kids stay with relatives to stay in a school district. I did that myself when I was younger. The schools frown on it a lot. They try to stop it if you get caught. I was told never to attract the attention of the principal or teachers or I would lose my school.
In my case, it wasn’t just a matter of babysitting at that age. It was that my home environment was very unstable and keeping me with my grandparents part time helped things seem more normal. There’s always a story behind this.

There’s a SO MUCH weird in this story.
First, I agree that the series of selfies is a bit much. Maybe one photo with the whole family and the dog. It’s sufficient. I understand people want to see that she’s really okay.
There are so many creepy men out there who think they’re owed a woman’s (or girl’s!) attention. Men might not even realize the extent of it.
There was something “off” with the parents, too. The mother liked makeup and glitz, and the dad seemed to be much older. They seemed to be extra protective of her, sheltering her a bit. But maybe that’s typical of parents of an only child.

The family selfies are weird. If I were her guardian, I'd post just ONE pic of her smiling, holding her dog, so that people can see she's safe and already starting to heal. At the same time I posted the pic, I'd have thanked the community for their concern and assistance.
The aunt sure has made herself prominent in those selfies. I find it weird. Not only that, but the "rescuers" are talking to multiple media outlets too. The dog-walker has participated in multiple news stories where she describes the girl's appearance and behavior, and she relays their dialogue word for word, plus a bunch of irrelevant details about the encounter. Then the homeowners who welcomed her into the house while they called police have also described her appearance and behavior in multiple news stories. (Who the fuck cares that you offered her something to eat and drink, and she declined?) These folks have gotten a lot of mileage out of their non-stories.
She has nothing to be ashamed of. But she does deserve some privacy.

R547, YES!!!! (to the taking credit part!) I was wondering the same thing. Nothing they did found her.
It reminds me of the press conference after the Golden State Killer was apprehended. It was 40 YEARS later and absolutely NOTHING in the police investigation uncovered one clue as to who it really was. He was never even on their radar until a tip was called in and some DNA was run through a national database. They did nothing, but it was an hour-long circle jerk congratulating themselves.
As an aside, What a terrible picture to release to the media for a missing person. Is that the best one they had?
by Anonymous | reply 551 | January 14, 2019 7:09 PM |
I can't believe there are still people speculating that Jayme had something to do with it. LE have specifically said that he targeted her after seeing her board a school bus. There was no prior contact and he was totally unknown to her and her family. This isn't about a girl who "got ony over her head with an older guy" and it isn't about drugs. It's about a psycho who randomly decided to kill this girl's parents so he could take her and hold her prisoner. That's it. Yes, it's horrifying and frightening, but blaming the victims doesn't make it not real. Time to face reality.

But tragic things do happen randomly... and r556 you’re right, the big question is how did we as a society produce this monster?

He allegedly attempted to kidnap her twice before he succeeded. The police have not given details as to how he tried or why he failed.

Meant to write "Suspect in Jayme Closs case tried to kidnap her twice previously, complaint states" at r571

How is that poor girl ever going to feel truly safe again?
by Anonymous | reply 574 | January 15, 2019 12:07 AM |
He tried twice before but saw people in the house or too many cars in the driveway.

R574, once something like this happens, you never feel safe again.
You heal, you become functional, and you can even thrive and overcome the trauma. However, it is never again the way it was before “it” happened. You are now forever aware that someone or something can come out of nowhere and change your life profoundly.
Jayme has the additional trauma of witnessing the murders of her parents.
I really wish this little girl the best, but witnessing murder is a life changing event and she may never overcome it.
I am still speechless regarding the fact that this guy killed her parents. Justice will never be served here, no matter what. He took everything from this kid.
Her determination to escape is what she’s going to need in order to heal from this, and sustaining that is easier said than done.

Her family better be getting her some competent therapy right now. Hope the state is monitoring her care.

i hope she will get the help she needs to get through all this. i wonder if Elizabeth Smart can help her. I feel so sad for Shasta Groene too.

There are no sexual assault charges filed against him? Did he have her all that time and really not rape her?
by Anonymous | reply 579 | January 15, 2019 12:51 AM |
The evidence may not be processed yet.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | January 15, 2019 12:55 AM |
R579 I thought the same thing... I wonder if they have such a solid case on the murder charges, etc., that they’ll forego those charges to spare Jayme.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | January 15, 2019 12:56 AM |
Considering how readily he admitted to plotting the murders and kidnapping, it wouldn't surprise me if he'd admit to rape as well. If it happened, that is, and I'd be shocked if it didn't.

More charges might be filed in Douglas County where she was found.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | January 15, 2019 1:02 AM |
Since the names and faces of sexual assault victims are not seen, I’ll bet any details of that if they occurred have been redacted. The horror christ...

She never directly looks into the camera. Is she autistic?

R579 = Howard Stern
by Anonymous | reply 587 | January 15, 2019 1:28 AM |
I was thinking that too, r579. Usually that's the case.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | January 15, 2019 1:55 AM |
I guess it's possible he didn't rape her, but from what I've read, it may be that the reason he hasn't been charged with rape or sexual assault (yet?) is because it occurred in the county where he took her, not in Barron where he committed the murders and kidnapping and is charged with those offenses.

I live in a city where both adults and children see this daily, yet no one cares about that. In fact, we have a whole genre of music encouraging it.

"There are no sexual assault charges filed against him? Did he have her all that time and really not rape her?"
They may want to spare this poor child the trauma of testifying, and the shame of making more details public (not that she has anything to feel shameful about). At this point, this guy is not going anywhere. Ever. He's done. There's no point in putting her through it.

If he went to prison on just murder charges would it protect him somewhat from the other inmates? If he had a child rape charge in there, would he be more in danger of harassment and violence from the other inmates? If so, I'd consider it worth it to tack on the rape charges and I'd hope that would be explained to Jayme and she'd be the one to decide. She could have her revenge then, if she wanted.

At 6'1 215 pounds he's big enough to defend himself from most other prisoners. No matter what your crime is, if you're big enough, no one bothers you.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | January 15, 2019 3:36 AM |
I'm surprised he's so tall. He looks like a fucking dork that's only 5'6.

Well well well, guess all you “She was in on it” losers have to eat crow now. There were so many of you on this thread so sure she was in on it somehow, or that she knew the kidnapper/murderer somehow, or that her parents were involved with drugs.
All of you were wrong.
That is glorious. That is what I’m happiest about when I read the latest news reports. It was always so obvious, but you morons held fast to your genius theories. Ha!
by Anonymous | reply 595 | January 15, 2019 3:51 AM |
And I’m guessing the “She was in on it” people are the same ones who automatically screech “EST!” whenever someone asks for advice or tells a really mundane story that for the EST freaks just seems too “elaborate” to be real.
You people are just *too* smart.

Oh, I'm sure many of them will continue to insist that she somehow played a role.
by Anonymous | reply 597 | January 15, 2019 3:56 AM |
Well maybe he saw the futility of it and he and Jayme concocted a scheme to let her go and he'd take the whole rap alone.

[quote] She never directly looks into the camera. Is she autistic?
Are you? She saw her parents murdered, then was held captive by the murderer for three months. Sue her if she's not ready for her close up.
by Anonymous | reply 599 | January 15, 2019 3:59 AM |
That’s right, R598! Don’t give up!
