I remember looking this up the last time it was posted and the only source I found was Darwin Porter claiming it was said in an interview, but he didn't say when or where.

Anyone have a more legit source for this?

Grant wasn't the type to say that he'd come back with all his old pals and take over Hollywood. He was the kind of actor who balked at being cast against women who were unreasonably young for him.

Let’s be honest: Grant was right about James Dean. Clift and Brando proved themselves multiple times, but “Rebel Without a Cause” features acting that would be laughed out of a CW show, he never really pulled off “Giant,” and his best performance, “East of Eden,” still pales in comparison to his peers (and still suffers from the histrionics that Kazan so often encouraged).

Marlon did not age well but as a young man he was so beautiful and smoking smoking smoking hot.

I never felt James Dean was bad.

Not great but not bad. He was wonderful in East Of Eden.

Cary Grant was the cheapest of cheapskates. Those people have lousy personalities, in general.

that is an aging superstar that is slipping in his standing in hollywood taking out his frustrations on the next generation. It happens constantly to this day.
