Meryl Streep and Jessica Lange

Why hasn't Hollywood put these two titans in something together already? They're peerless, admire each other (Streep being particularly vocal about her reverence for Lange) and are still hugely popular.

Surely there must be something they could star in together.

I would love to see them in something where they repeatedly slap each other.

by Anonymousreply 1October 17, 2018 12:14 AM

R1 That would be such a hit, lol!

by Anonymousreply 2October 17, 2018 12:16 AM

Jessica Lange sucks. All she does is ‘southern faded beauty mean old drunk lady’ and she’s not even southern. And her plastic surgery is fucked and not a nice example.

by Anonymousreply 3October 17, 2018 12:19 AM

And tv. Lange is popular on tv. What was her last film? Small role in that shitty marky mark thing?

by Anonymousreply 4October 17, 2018 12:20 AM

R3 You must be the Lange hater who always peppers threads involving her with stupidity.

The Lange Fan always gets you, do I'll wait.

by Anonymousreply 5October 17, 2018 12:22 AM

R4 She's popular, period. EVERYONE knows and loves her work.

by Anonymousreply 6October 17, 2018 12:23 AM

It would be cool to see them onstage in Agnes of God. They could swap roles of the doctor and the mother superior at different performances.

by Anonymousreply 7October 17, 2018 12:41 AM

She is popular on a scary tv show. The bitch has been run out of film. Nothing works for her on the big screen.

by Anonymousreply 8October 17, 2018 12:42 AM

I liked her in Cape Fear. Guess what she played? Aging southern beauty alcoholic.

by Anonymousreply 9October 17, 2018 12:43 AM

and Music Box, too, was ok. She’s not all that. I’m not hating her just to.

by Anonymousreply 10October 17, 2018 12:43 AM

Meryl, Jessica, and Glenn should do a Golden Girls film, with Ellen Burstyn as Sophia.

by Anonymousreply 11October 17, 2018 12:44 AM

The face is fucked and I don’t like angry alcoholics.

by Anonymousreply 12October 17, 2018 12:44 AM

Can the Lange loon OD ASAP???

by Anonymousreply 13October 17, 2018 12:44 AM

Because the world would die of boredom, OP.

by Anonymousreply 14October 17, 2018 12:49 AM

A remake of "The Whales of August"?

Jessica can play Bette this time, while Meryl goes all demure as Lillian.

by Anonymousreply 15October 17, 2018 12:50 AM

R7/R11/R15 love these!

by Anonymousreply 16October 17, 2018 12:59 AM

Lange's two best roles on the tv screen have been New Jersey-born Big Edie Beale in "Grey Gardens," and Bostonian nun Sister Jude in "AHS: Coven." So, no, she doesn't always play faded Southern beauties. And her last big screen appearance was in "Wild Oats" with Shirley Maclaine, which was not a small part. And she wasn't Southern in that one either.

The fans serve the tea.

Oops. I meant "AHS: Asylum."

by Anonymousreply 20October 17, 2018 3:33 AM

Wild Oats only came on Lifetime

by Anonymousreply 21October 17, 2018 5:27 AM

R21, Wild Oats was released in theaters after the Lifetime premiere, resulting in a breach of contract lawsuit between Sony and the producers.

Maybe they can together come up with something watchable. Maybe.

by Anonymousreply 23October 17, 2018 6:15 AM

R22 They fucked with that production from the start. The financing nearly fell through mid-shoot and they had to do rewrites to accommodate for the budget.

Still, MacLaine and Lange are majic together, turning a trite script into a bittersweet giggle of a film. Their chemistry is natural and effervescent.

MacLaine writes extensively about the filming and about Lange in her book "Above the Line: My Wild Oats Adventure". It's a fascinating read and peek into the everyday drudgery of filmmaking.

Lange, MacLaine and Demi Moore all agreed to give up their salaries so crew could get paid.

Wild Oats is nothing spectacular, but MacLaine and Lange make it work. Lange also does something really different here, harkening back to her lighter tones in "Tootsie". She looks spectacular, too.

by Anonymousreply 24October 17, 2018 6:39 AM

They still have time.

by Anonymousreply 25October 24, 2018 5:29 AM

I love Shirley and Jessica but “Wild Oats” was bad. The one that Lange did with Kathy Bates and Joan Allen was marginally better.

by Anonymousreply 26October 24, 2018 11:27 AM

R26 Bonneville was better, actually.

by Anonymousreply 27October 24, 2018 3:22 PM

Lange does usually play a drunk but on AHS shes played women who are from Boston, Germany and wherever Fiona is supposed to be from.

by Anonymousreply 28October 24, 2018 3:26 PM

R28 Lange has played a drunk like twice in her career. In fact, Murphy wrote Sister Jude as an alcoholic because Lange had never played one offstage.

by Anonymousreply 29October 24, 2018 3:28 PM

Because Meryl is a star and Lange a television actress.

by Anonymousreply 30October 24, 2018 5:06 PM

R30 Big Little Lies!

by Anonymousreply 31October 24, 2018 5:09 PM

This never gets old.

Streep on star Jessica Lange @4:00 minutes. And that's just ONE of a myriad interviews in which Streep mentions Lange in reverence.

M loves J. I know, it must hurt.

Why hasn't Hollywood put these two titans in something together already?

Because one cunt per film is enough.

by Anonymousreply 33October 24, 2018 7:36 PM

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane: The Remake

by Anonymousreply 34October 24, 2018 7:39 PM

R34 They really should do a modernized version of this.

by Anonymousreply 35October 24, 2018 7:56 PM

I need them in something now!

by Anonymousreply 36October 30, 2018 8:10 PM

DL needs to write a script for them!

by Anonymousreply 37October 31, 2018 2:29 AM

The Queens.

by Anonymousreply 38November 1, 2018 3:37 PM

If they starred in something together, the internet would break.

by Anonymousreply 39November 10, 2018 10:41 PM

[quote]r94 Wild Oats is nothing spectacular, but MacLaine and Lange make it work.

Were Sharon Stone and Faye Dunaway ever tentatively attached to this? I thought I remembered some fan gushing about a similar premise 4 or 5 years ago...

by Anonymousreply 40November 10, 2018 10:51 PM

R40 It's always been MacLaine, I believe.

I know Lange's role was initially offered to Jackie Weaver and Jane Fonda, who were both attached.

by Anonymousreply 41November 10, 2018 10:54 PM

Why?
