Meryl Streep and Jessica Lange
Why hasn't Hollywood put these two titans in something together already? They're peerless, admire each other (Streep being particularly vocal about her reverence for Lange) and are still hugely popular.
Surely there must be something they could star in together.

I would love to see them in something where they repeatedly slap each other.

R1 That would be such a hit, lol!

Jessica Lange sucks. All she does is ‘southern faded beauty mean old drunk lady’ and she’s not even southern. And her plastic surgery is fucked and not a nice example.

And tv. Lange is popular on tv. What was her last film? Small role in that shitty marky mark thing?

R3 You must be the Lange hater who always peppers threads involving her with stupidity.
The Lange Fan always gets you, do I'll wait.

R4 She's popular, period. EVERYONE knows and loves her work.

It would be cool to see them onstage in Agnes of God. They could swap roles of the doctor and the mother superior at different performances.

She is popular on a scary tv show. The bitch has been run out of film. Nothing works for her on the big screen.

I liked her in Cape Fear. Guess what she played? Aging southern beauty alcoholic.

and Music Box, too, was ok. She’s not all that. I’m not hating her just to.

Meryl, Jessica, and Glenn should do a Golden Girls film, with Ellen Burstyn as Sophia.

A remake of "The Whales of August"?
Jessica can play Bette this time, while Meryl goes all demure as Lillian.

Lange's two best roles on the tv screen have been New Jersey-born Big Edie Beale in "Grey Gardens," and Bostonian nun Sister Jude in "AHS: Coven." So, no, she doesn't always play faded Southern beauties. And her last big screen appearance was in "Wild Oats" with Shirley Maclaine, which was not a small part. And she wasn't Southern in that one either.

R21, Wild Oats was released in theaters after the Lifetime premiere, resulting in a breach of contract lawsuit between Sony and the producers.

R22 They fucked with that production from the start. The financing nearly fell through mid-shoot and they had to do rewrites to accommodate for the budget.
Still, MacLaine and Lange are majic together, turning a trite script into a bittersweet giggle of a film. Their chemistry is natural and effervescent.
MacLaine writes extensively about the filming and about Lange in her book "Above the Line: My Wild Oats Adventure". It's a fascinating read and peek into the everyday drudgery of filmmaking.
Lange, MacLaine and Demi Moore all agreed to give up their salaries so crew could get paid.
Wild Oats is nothing spectacular, but MacLaine and Lange make it work. Lange also does something really different here, harkening back to her lighter tones in "Tootsie". She looks spectacular, too.

I love Shirley and Jessica but “Wild Oats” was bad. The one that Lange did with Kathy Bates and Joan Allen was marginally better.

R26 Bonneville was better, actually.

Lange does usually play a drunk but on AHS shes played women who are from Boston, Germany and wherever Fiona is supposed to be from.

R28 Lange has played a drunk like twice in her career. In fact, Murphy wrote Sister Jude as an alcoholic because Lange had never played one offstage.

Because Meryl is a star and Lange a television actress.

This never gets old.
Streep on star Jessica Lange @4:00 minutes. And that's just ONE of a myriad interviews in which Streep mentions Lange in reverence.
M loves J. I know, it must hurt.

Were Sharon Stone and Faye Dunaway ever tentatively attached to this? I thought I remembered some fan gushing about a similar premise 4 or 5 years ago...

R40 It's always been MacLaine, I believe.
I know Lange's role was initially offered to Jackie Weaver and Jane Fonda, who were both attached.
