I am a white bisexual male and I am tired at cheap attempts at representation
So, in “Revenge,” you had the character Nolan who was bisexual. But he was the sidekick to the main female character, Emily — he was never the handsome love interest like Jack or Daniel.
On the TV series “Shadowhunters,” there’s apparently a bisexual character named Magnus Bane played by Harry Shum. However, they made him Asian. It’s as if the producers thought, “Okay, let’s kill two birds with one stone, let’s make a token character that’s both bisexual and a person of color.”
Now, apparently, on the new Sabrina TV series, there’s a “pansexual person of color character” who is Sabrina’s cousin. Well, you know what? I am tired of this cheap attempt at representation! So, a bisexual male character is only good enough to be a lower tiered person of color, the sidekick, but he’s never good enough to be the handsome male love interest of the female lead?
This promotes homophobia! It perpetuates the idea that bisexual men are not good enough for women to date. Also, are handsome white men too valuable and good to waste as bisexual characters?

I think he's right. Bisexuals are underrepresented. Having representation would mean more would come out.

Also, portraying more bisexual men more positively would lessen the taboo of straight men experimenting with other guys.

Ok, OP, I'll play along and make like you're not a troll just this once. On 'Westworld,' handsome, white, DL Fave Ben Barnes played the bisexual Logan. Of course, the character was a douche and a drug addict, so go ahead and rage about that now.

I can’t say I agree with the tone or phrasing of your post OP
But I get mostly what you’re saying....I think. I do think that some productions do, do “double dip diversity” to fill quotas.
On Teen Wolf I really thought for a minute that the Dylan Sprayberry character was going to be gay. To me that would have meant something as he was SO very much a stereotypical teen dream type and a jock. It would have felt more like mainstream representation somehow.
Instead his friend was gay checking off the gay, black, and artsy boxes at once. He was also just a supporting character.

I'm sick of bisexual female characters. There are so damn many. It's beyond twisted how it's okay and accepted to be bi as a woman (even EXPECTED in some circles), but the bisexual male is a very rare thing indeed.

These shows are not made for you. All mainstream media is made for people who identify as straight white people. Any bisexual character in there don't exist to represent you. They exist to entertain straight people.

I get your point, OP but why would anyone write a female character falling for a bi man? That's basically just a straight relationship, what difference would it make?

R20, because it sends a message to women that it’s okay if their guy is also attracted to guys.
Besides, TV relationships don’t last. I want to see more bi guys that go back and forth between genders.
I want to see more bi guys not being relegated to supporting role or villain.

R18 is correct for the most part. I don't see many portrayals of cool gay Jewish men either. Many minorities do not like how they are portrayed, if ever. Come to think of it, I haven't seen many bisexual characters portrayed in a leading male role, or anything less than a bit disordered or malevolent.

The truly 'bisexual" people that I've met would NEVER label themselves as anything other than just being sexual.

Not the ones I have known R25. I think it may be that they disclose differently to different people under different circumstances. If you only have contact with them on an app for sex, they may identify vaguely. If only a co-worker, or neighbour, perhaps no mention of it at all. If they are a good friend, they enjoy the freedom to let it all hang out with their gay mates. In my own life, I find the ladies to be identifying more of the same way across the board.

That's because Jewish nerd writers dominate Hollywood and they write a lot about themselves and their not so cool nerdiness. Judd Apatow, Michael Schur and many SNL writers are good examples of this specimen. I like their work a lot even though I wouldn't consider myself a nerd.

HBO is releasing Him or Her next year, a show centered on a black bi guy and his dating life, though the AA community got really pissed they'll have a black male dating guys and girls, I guess they prefer to keep it down low, right?
I'd bet good money that most of his male dates will be femme gays just to keep the stereotype intact. We'll see. Still not what OP is asking for.

Representation is pablum for people with limited capacity. Just because you don't "see" someone like you doesn't mean there aren't people "like" you.
Great works of literature reflect this. Most of us are not white women in Regency England, yet can see the universal appeal of Elizabeth Bennett or Darcy. I am not now, nor will ever be a King, yet can see the folly, heartache, and regret of Lear, Macbeth, and Richard III. I am not a giant cockroach, but can empathize with Gregor Samsa. I am not a hobo, but share the despair of Vladimir and Estragon.
Accept the limitations of popular entertainment, but see yourself and your experience in the betrayal of Fantine. The hooker with the heart of gold needs "representation" but, Violetta Valéry can be who she is and let her story stand.

But the vast majority of bisexuals aren't bouncing between relationships with both sexes, they are usually just in heterosexual relationships. The truth is that the vast majority of bisexuals live a life that is indistinguishable from heterosexuals.

If you're gonna be anti gay, be anti gay towards men AND women , don't say it's OK for women but horrible for men and feminists feed up these FALSE crap that women have it so hard and men are allowed to get away with everything

Lee Pace's character in "Burn and Catch Fire" is supposed to be bi and they show his old boyfriend and current girlfriend. He's a bit amoral but definitely not femme–the fact that he is bi comes as a surprise both to the viewer and to the other characters.

R50 He was shown flirting with a hot young guy at the party, it is implied they had sex later, and then he had a brief affair with another white guy. There is a scene where he and his then-wife go to the night club where he kisses a guy and she kisses a girl. There are no other female lovers mentioned beyond the love of his life and his wife (yep two different women). It is actually kind of proposed that he is into men a lot, because he admits he was bullied and called a fag in school. I'd say it's a very non-hetero-washed portrait of a non-heterosexual white male.

R48 You matter. I don’t get the hostility towards bi men. I have several bi buddies and the bias is just bullshit.
It’s the same crap gay men got in the 80s. Bigots are fishing for a new group to maginalize. I’ve had awesome bi buddies since the late 70s.
It’s just bigotry. Maybe you’re not a Kinsey 5 but you’re not a Kinsey 0. We should get our heads out of our asses that you’ve got two concurrent sexual orientations, simultaneously.
Glad to have you.

R53 He also has a berserk button related to homophobia. There are a few moments where he gets angry about it and it's shown in a very cool way, like he is shown as this cool guy getting rightfully mad at jerks. It is refreshing because the show doesn't shy away from the difficulties of not being straight but he doesn't look like the typical tragic victim. He has a strong personality and a lot of charisma.
R54 Not quite. He had an emotionally deep and important relationship with his ex. He isn't the least bit apologetic about being bisexual. It's not like men are his dirty secrets. And the whole marrying thing is more him having an existential crisis. Long story. He is definitely sexual with that woman but the relationship is short lived and the marriage is almost an accident.
It was also refreshing how the love of his life got jealous over his ex boyfriend but didn't give a fuck that he was male. She literally just accepts his sexuality as it is, it never bothers her.
