Here's another photo. When I spotted the TV image, it took me a minute or two to figure out who this 80 year old woman was. I honestly thought Justine Bateman looked 80 years old.

I have know quite a few smokers who dont have skin that aged. I think that is also a result of being underweight for decades. Sometimes people are just older looking. Genetics play a huge part. My mother is 90 and smoked for decades and has better skin than Justine. I think the sun is a big factor.

She’s authentic, though. It’s refreshing to see a woman in her 50s who looks real. She looks like a Karyatis. Girl deserves praise and the eyes are magnificent.

It really depends on the camera angle and what she is saying. In some shots she looks pretty good, in others ravaged. When you meet people in real life with that effect it can be fascinating.

If she put on 10lbs she would look great. Had a friend who smoked and never ate. She got too thin. In her mid 40s started to look wrinkled and haggard. Knew her since high school and was always a beauty. She quit the smokes and put on a few pounds. She looks great again.

I'm thinking of Dorothea Lange and her photographs of men and women who have lived very hard lives and have ravaged faces. In that respect, I don't think she looks bad. I honestly sort of like the fact that Justine has just let herself age naturally, though I can't help but admit that she seems to have aged hard. Everyone ages, obviously, but she looks much rougher compared to her brother, which is odd because Jason was a self-admitted addict for years. If I had to guess, I'd assume she was a heavy smoker based on the deep lines around her mouth, which are usually a telltale sign. Probably that and just a matter of genetics. Some people can get away with drinking and chainsmoking for years and years with little notable impact on their body, while others weren't built to take the beating so lightly. It's just the luck of the draw.

She lost too much weight at an older age. Once the fat goes from your face and neck, that ages you harder than almost anything.
