Was Audrey trans in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore"

Jodie Foster said Scorsese freaked out when he saw she cut her hair before the movie started shooting but she could have worn a wig and they could have put the character in something that didn't make her look like a West Hollywood runaway/hustler.

I remembered seeing the movie in the theater and even though Foster was somewhat known, when she says her name is Audrey, the audience's reaction was similar to Jaye Davidson's reveal.

We should start a "Were they really trans?" thread.

Here is Audrey later in the film wearing a skirt, drinking Ripple and trying to seduce Tommy. Now that's acting!

Tomboys and lesbians actually are words that have(had) meaning.

OP None of these characters you are shitting on were trans. Now fuck off

by Anonymousreply 4October 7, 2018 7:02 PM

No, OP.

Trans is a myth.

by Anonymousreply 5October 7, 2018 7:02 PM

Jodie Foster herself is trans.

I was a kid when I first saw the film and I thought Jodie Foster was a boy.

When Jodie Foster was really young, she played stringy haired raggamuffin looking kids, then in grade school years, she always played tomboy types. In the 70s, there was a way of dressing that was a unisex look for pre teen and early teen years boys and girls . It entailed flared pants or beachy shorts and t shirts and collared polo shirts and feathered hair for everyone. It's hard to explain if you weren't there. JF is just a month older than I, so I grew up seeing her as a regular guest star on TV shows or appearing in Disney movies. The thing that irked me most was when she got to be on The Partridge Family. She had to play "Danny's 'girlfriend,'" but still.

Being a butch girl or a femme boy doesn't make you trans, it makes you a perfectly normal, ordinary, human being! That's just how people ARE, almost everyone has gradations of masculinity and femininity, hardly anyone is all masculine or all feminine like the gender nutters think they should be.

They've got the wrong end of the stick, if they see a girl who can easily be mistaken for a boy, they should realize she's just a normal everyday girl.

People really pay for this? That's very generous of you.
