Oh ok good I was worried it was near Woodstock. It was people coming from something called an Apple Barrel.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 7, 2018 4:40 PM |
What a bunch of idiots. 60 mph while driving over the hill.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 7, 2018 4:42 PM |
You have to feel sad for the Apple Barrel. They probably have a three month season at best, and who's going to come for their cider if they risk being plowed under by a truck with bad brakes?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 7, 2018 4:46 PM |
Aunt Diane the sequel?

Speeding limo holding intoxicated wedding party loses control. I feel bad for the bystanders not those in the car. .

^^ Oh, shit!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 7, 2018 4:49 PM |
20 people? That's completely insane
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 7, 2018 4:50 PM |
Oops! The LOL! was meant for Aunt Diane.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 7, 2018 4:50 PM |
Shit like this scares me.
A restaurant near me was destroyed a few years ago when an 18 wheeler's load shifted when it was driving down a slight hill with a curve. The truck tipped on its side, slid into the restaurant, hit a gas main, and it burned to the ground. Thankfully this happened early in the morning (4-6 am) and no one was in the place. The driver had minimal injuries.
The clientele of the restaurant tends to be older people. God could only imagine how many people would have died if it happened during dinner.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 7, 2018 4:51 PM |
if the bride died, it sucks. if the bride lived it sucks.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 7, 2018 4:51 PM |
I don't think anyone in that limo survived....
Sounds like it was a real mess...
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 7, 2018 4:52 PM |
My first thought when I saw "twenty people" was "another mass shooting."
Sad country, this is.

Barrel- intransitive verb. : to move at a high speed or without hesitation.

Eighteen of the victims were in the limousine and the other two were bystanders, the Associated Press reported, citing preliminary information from sources close to the investigation.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 7, 2018 4:56 PM |
I feel for those families because I am sure they are all connected. Can't even imagine what they are going thru
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 7, 2018 4:58 PM |
Google Maps.
If you blow through the intersection from Route 30, it goes right into the Apple Barrel parking lot.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 7, 2018 4:58 PM |
I hope the bride and groom are among the deceased. I've been in several wedding party limos and they are usually the ones telling the driver to speed up.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 7, 2018 4:58 PM |
I'd lay bets they're from the bridge and tunnel crowd. It is a wonder more of them are not killed more often.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 7, 2018 5:01 PM |
If the driver was black or latino we'll have to do something about runaway limos.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 7, 2018 5:01 PM |
Is there anything trashier than a limo?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 7, 2018 5:05 PM |
Wonder who the two survivors in the limo were.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 7, 2018 5:07 PM |
Comes flying over the hill, hits another car starts rolling down the hill, the party inside go flying around, their heads smashing into each other.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 7, 2018 5:14 PM |
So we still don't know whether the bride and groom were killed?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 7, 2018 5:26 PM |
Users on Reddit are saying that it wasn't a wedding. It was a birthday celebration.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 7, 2018 5:35 PM |

These huge limos are such death traps.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 7, 2018 6:03 PM |
Is there any possibility that this was intentional? Like maybe the driver had mental problems.

R6 I feel the same way
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 7, 2018 6:21 PM |
I have actually gotten out of wedding limos twice because they wouldn't stop speeding. The first I took a taxi to the reception, the second I just went home.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 7, 2018 6:31 PM |
Guns don't kill people; limos do.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 7, 2018 6:34 PM |
You can fit 18 people into a limo? Even a big one?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 7, 2018 6:37 PM |
I don't get it. Why would a driver speed up just because some drunken passengers tell him to?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 7, 2018 6:38 PM |
R35 maybe the women offered to flash him

R50, picture 20 people in what is essentially a cement mixer as the limo rolls. I am sure none of them wore seat belts.

Yes, R52. Let The highly perceptive OP provide them.

Eighteen passengers? Ninety years ago my grandmother's friend was excited by her new Packard which could seat eight people. My grandmother sniffed "That's a charabanc, not a limousine".
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 7, 2018 7:57 PM |
The SUV was on the way to the wedding (according to Daily Mail) but neither the bride nor groom was in the vehicle. I bet the bride is pissed off — her big day spoiled and every anniversary too, now. And those 18 dinners were paid for!

I don't want to get retagged, so I will try to state this correctly.
My suspicion is that the driver will be declared to be an illegal/legal non-white, and this will become a tareism (AKA GWB) issue because of where in the world this person was born. And, Oh, this will energize the Pres and the Right.

by Anonymous | reply 120 | October 7, 2018 10:54 PM |
Why were they all crammed in a limo going to a birthday party together? Wouldn't you normally pick a venue and everyone would arrange their own transport? If they were attempting to leaf peep it would seem those in the interior of the car wouldn't be able to see a damn thing. And the way people film each and every moment of their social lives I guarantee at least one of the 18 was filming with their phone when the crash occurred.

It makes more sense to have one vehicle instead of several. Also, add to it everyone wants to drink you don't have to worry about a designated driver.

I once lived in a former motel complex where the apartments were combo rooms from the former motel.
The managers reception house was a separate unit and located directly on a dangerous curve of a state road at the bottom of a hill. That house had been crashed into so many times huge boulders had been brought in to protect the house.
One day some drunk nimrods loaded a row boat into the bed of a pick up truck and put two people in the boat. They careened down the hill hit the curve so fast that the two people in the row boat went flying and the girl landed smack onto my driveway just moments after I pulled in.
dead dead dead
Horrible day for all. There were so many signs and it never made a bit of difference. Booze makes fools of them all.
The family built a memorial at the end of the driveway right where I turned in every day. After six months I took it down. Couldn't stand looking at it every time I came home.

Four sisters and their husbands were among the 20 people killed in an upstate limo crash that took place while the women were celebrating the youngest sister’s 30th birthday, their aunt said Sunday.

The highway authorities discourage those reside memorials. 20 years ago, when they were notable to shock people into taking a particularly dangerous road seriously, or such, they served a public purpose. Now they’re just a distraction and hazard in their own right. Cemeteries are for memorializing the dead.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | October 8, 2018 12:46 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 140 | October 8, 2018 1:10 AM |
r140 I'm guessing it's because a limo was involved which falls under a different set of transportation codes than a civilian car does.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | October 8, 2018 1:15 AM |
People hire limos so they can drink and not worry about duis. I live near a bunch of vineyards and we have people coming here in limos for wedding showers, engagement parties, birthdays, etc. Because of state laws, wineries can’t serve food, so there’s really nothing to do at them but drink. A few years back a limo driver made a U turn into the path of a pickup truck & 4 young women in the limo died.
A judge dropped all charges against the limo driver on a technicality.

There was a winery that had to be shut down because the owners were playing extremely loud music all hours of the day and night and were basically running a rowdy nightclub. They were violating all kinds of regs so the town got strict. Vineyards are zoned as agricultural land, so owners can’t operate a restaurant. Food trucks became a big thing at the wineries, but local delis and restaurants complained. The brick & mortar delis and restaurants were paying taxes, observing zoning laws and also required to observe board of health rules for serving food. The food trucks didn’t have to do that, so the restaurants made a stink and the town agreed the trucks shouldn’t be allowed on agricultural or residentially zoned land.
Restaurants make a good living from the vineyard tourist trade and delis do a lot of local business from local workers who buy lunch there. The food trucks were making big bucks with no regulations or taxes.

Yeah, the big limousines and party buses allow drinking onboard, so you can have 18 very loud, drunk people whooping & screaming, standing up when they should be sitting (remember Dan Motherfuck? RIP. He would’ve been a great SCOTUS judge one day).
If the driver isn’t drunk or an asshole, he or she coukd be distracted by all the ruckus.

The sisters were between 30-35, so basically popped out one after another. For it to be the birthday of the youngest and another to have just gotten married makes it all the sadder. Can you imagine being the parents and losing the four daughters plus your four son-in-laws all in one instant? To have such a big family and have it all wiped out...

Unreal to lose that many people from one family in one accident.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | October 8, 2018 3:47 AM |
I know people who live near the accident. They said it's a really big hill and steep too. Bad combination right there. They think that the limo most likely lost its brakes. They also told me that tractor trailers were banned from this hill due to losing their brakes.
Eighteen people in a limo on a fairly standard drive-train is a lot of weight. Brakes are designed and installed based on weight restrictions. If there's too much weight they won't be able to stop the vehicle. Maybe it was driver error, I don't know, but I suspect it was more likely a combination of the long, steep hill, an improperly placed stop sign, and a vehicle that was overweight due to overloading.

by Anonymous | reply 168 | October 8, 2018 5:15 AM |
R161 is correct. That is horrible weight on the frame even it was reinforced. Also the concept of “mass in motion” is very real. Any driver would have to plan far in advance to decelerate a vehicle like that. Even though commercial drivers do have to pass exams I really doubt the quality of anything resembling emergency training. People that ride in these things have zero idea how big the potential is for fatalities.
This vehicle was built in 2001- that makes it 17years old. Manual Brakes can only be so responsive, which is why massive machines - like aircraft rely on Auto brakes that vastly exceed the limits of human responses.
These vehicles should be illegal. Also I am just horrified at the last moments of these passengers - they had seconds to process the terror. Fuck ANY operator that rents these things out.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | October 8, 2018 5:20 AM |
^ Yes, I agree. And I was told by locals the road in question is very steep and there have been issues with it before even after they changed the way the bottom just abruptly stops with little notice. Local area residents have complained so town/county officials were aware of the problem but of course nothing was done about it. There should be two stop signs there; one stop sign long before the one that is there as a precaution because the only stop sign that is there is after the fact. So even if the limo had proper breaks, which is doubtful, if the driver wasn’t aware of the sudden stop at the bottom (and my guess is he wasn't aware), then by the time he realized it was there, it was way too late to start breaking.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | October 8, 2018 5:34 AM |
In the summer of 2015 four young women were killed in Long Island when a stretch limo was unable to stop in time at an intersection. Limos are sometimes taken to aftermarket shops where they are stretched, modified or changed leaving safety standards at risk and both drivers and passengers in danger. Stretching a limo can put the wheels in motion for improper braking and terrible tragedy, like this one.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | October 8, 2018 5:54 AM |
R171, I believe the driver made an illegal u-turn in that accident. If I'm not mistaken, he might have been charged. The other driver was drunk, but it was total negligence by the limo driver. In this one I'm guessing excessive speed contributed.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | October 8, 2018 6:00 AM |
The brakes had to have been compromised by the modification of the vehicle. I hope this accident brings an end to these death traps. Unfortunately the GOP will not permit anything that interferes with profit above human safety factors.

Yesterday a local said on a news program that there are numerous signs along the road about the reduced speed limit, and that trucks and heavy load vehicles are prohibited. You do not get thrown around driving down a hill, even at 60 mph. Have you never driven before?
by Anonymous | reply 204 | October 8, 2018 1:34 PM |
I remember reading (not sure if it's fact) that when a car crashes above a certain speed even with seatbelts on you're likely to die on impact. Something about the way your head whips forward basically severs your spinal chord at the neck, causing internal decapitation.
Add to that no seat belts and bring thrown into each other as it ran out of control it was probably inevitable that they'd all die.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | October 8, 2018 1:37 PM |
R202:
1) there are no survivors when a plane "drops out of the sky". If it lands, even crash-lands, maybe. Not if it drops like a stone (or like KAL flight 007)
2) try putting a bunch of grapes (or apples, or pears...) in a can and rolling it down a a hill at 60mph. Even if it rolls to a stop and doesn't crash into anything, those grapes are mush. And so would a human be. In fact, that was one means of execution in the middle ages.

by Anonymous | reply 208 | October 8, 2018 1:40 PM |
r201 survivor's guilt is a strange thing. for the longest time I thought it was something you could control. We always see that others shouldn't feel guilty because they lived so I thought they should be able to see it too. Until..............
9/11 happened. I was born and raised a NY'er but moved when I was 25 to another state. When 9/11 happened I was 51 and I felt terrible that I wasn't there. I felt like I had abandoned other NY'ers by being safe somewhere else. It took me a few months to work thru it but I was quite surprised when it happened. I realized that it is not something you control but just is. I feel for others that have survivors guilt.

Now there's a theory floating around that there may possibly have been a carbon monoxide exhaust leak especially given that the limo was a 17 yr old after-market assembled piece of crap and the driver passed out going down the hill. But then why did he make a sharp turn, seemingly to stop the vehicle? Unless it swerved on its own.
I think it is more likely that the combination of known road safety issues and the brakes failing due to being insufficient for the load, and as a result they were internally decapitated as R205 wrote.
The autopsy reports will determine the actual cause of death. Right now its all speculation. There is no way to arrive at an accurate conclusion because we don't have all of the details.

It was also reported that there were no skid marks on the road, only tire marks on the grass.
I also just found out that this accident/tragedy was withheld from the press for almost 24 hours. I realize that they had to get a positive identification on at least one of the victims as that one would lead to the identification of most of the others since they were obviously related/friends. But why wasn't it reported sooner, leaving off the names of the victims pending the usual next of kin notifications?
Anyone know why they waited almost 24 hours to report this tragedy?

[quote] [R171], I believe the driver made an illegal u-turn in that accident. If I'm not mistaken, he might have been charged
All charges against the limo driver were ordered dropped by a judge because of a technicality. Cops and witnesses agreed the driver of the pickup truck that hit the limo could not stop in time and the accident was the fault of the limo driver who turned into oncoming traffic.
But the pickup truck driver was forced into a plea agreement for DWI even though his blood level alcohol was within normal limits by the time it was taken. He had told cops he had a few beers with lunch. No doubt his lawyers have or will appeal the DWI which resulted in a $500 fine and license suspension for 90 days. Whether he was drunk or not, he couldn’t have stopped in time when the limo pulled in front of him. Since he chose to plea to the DWI, no doubt he is the subject of multiple lawsuits from the 8 people in the limo (4 died, but all passengers are suing).

Btw, the limo at the vineyard on eastern Long Island was a Lincoln town car that was “reconfigured” as a stretch limo to accommodate more passengers. So we really don’t know how the fuck these vehicles are made or “reconfigured”
by Anonymous | reply 246 | October 8, 2018 4:36 PM |
I posted the carbon monoxide possibility ( R215 ) after reading it on another board. That theory is floating around now since the limo was so old and in poor condition. But if carbon monoxide poisoning was the case they would not have all died at the same time. The driver dying first is not likely given that the exhaust is in the rear. And if so, then why did the driver try to turn the limo as if he were trying to stop it or at least slow it down to regain control? He had to be conscious to maneuver that turn.

It was just reported that this particular limo had also failed inspection along with four of the others and was not supposed to be on the road. Also, the owner knew that the driver was not properly licensed to be driving a stretch limo.
The update also said that way before the crash one of the girls sent a text to a friend saying that the motor was so loud they might all be deaf by the time they got to the brewery.
Instead they were all dead.
by Anonymous | reply 258 | October 8, 2018 5:04 PM |
People were texting from the limo so sounds like they were alive and awake til crash, not passed out from carbon monoxide.
My guess is distracted driver, either by the crowd or phone. And I doubt any passengers were wearing seatbelts. Crowded limo, no seatbelts and 60 MPH is not a good combo.

by Anonymous | reply 261 | October 8, 2018 5:11 PM |
Some people here say they know the area. I don’t understand the graphics. They say the limo blew a stop sign, came down the hill and into the parking lot of the store, where it hit an SUV. Yet we see the limo in what looks like a shallow dip in woods. It looks like it’s at the side of a roadway.
Can someone explain that? Did the limo blow into the SUV, then through the parking lot and into woods?
by Anonymous | reply 262 | October 8, 2018 5:13 PM |
Link to what r258 is saying.
The limo failed inspection and wasn't supposed to be on the road, and the driver did not have the proper license to be driving the veicle.

It’s kind of amazing the limo is in one piece. You’d think it would be a lot more smashed up than it is. It isn’t even crumpled or dented and you can see some windows intact. The other windows look like they were cleared of glass by rescuers.

The hard part is work, since I have to be around a bunch of people everyday. They all get along great, laughing and joking and knowing each others personal business. I'm odd man out, and keep to myself. It depresses me to be at work. I worry as being perceived as the weirdo and hated for it. It would be easier to be just like everyone else.

Internal decapitation for sure. 60+mph, slamming into another vehicle then launching into a deep brook that slams a second time into a tall bank wall. Dead on impact. Reminder - Princess Diana barely survived her impact due to torn arteries - and she had seat back that absorbed her impact.
I hope the company owners all go to prison for life. Also I hope that these vehicles are outlawed.

The official suggested that his son may be running the day-to-day operations of the company. Mr. Hussain, posing as a wealthy Muslim radical, was the central prosecution witness in a 2004 federal sting focusing on a pizzeria owner and an imam at an Albany mosque. In 2010, Mr. Hussain, who posed as a terrorist, played a key role in trying the government’s case in a plot to blow up two synagogues in the Bronx.

by Anonymous | reply 295 | October 8, 2018 7:06 PM |
Apparently, as far as the safety inspection, it was failure of the single muffler-belt system. A vehicle that long is required to have two. Additionally, when they "stretch" these vehicles, they cut the frames. The filler parts to connect the frame pieces again are usually just bolted together and/or spot welded. These stretched vehicles have no frame strength. They will fold even in small accidents.

They were either drinking already or planning to drink. And there were 17 of them - not all going to pile in one car even if they had a designated driver. And the other party bus was broken down.
Just a horrible series of events and minor decisions that led to a terrible tragedy (from victims perspectives). The company, on the other hand, sounds sketchy as hell.
by Anonymous | reply 312 | October 8, 2018 8:38 PM |
Sp many unanswered questions about this disaster. But a few things have come to light. The limo company was sleazy and disreputable, operating out of some cheap hotel. The driver didn't have a proper license. The limos were in crummy shape. My question is this: didn't these people do any investigating at all when it came to hiring a limo company? Did they just go with the cheapest one they could find without bothering to find out anything else about it? If they'd been more selective when choosing a limo things might have turned out different.
by Anonymous | reply 313 | October 8, 2018 8:38 PM |

Yeah, it's really to bad that they didn't all just get a few Uber/Lyft SUVs to get around in. At least those cars are supposedly not allowed to be so old. I'm thinking its going to come down to this unsafe vehicle having too much weight in it and the brakes failing.
by Anonymous | reply 316 | October 8, 2018 8:50 PM |

So please lay off the technical mumbo jumbo about struts and supports etc, etc, etc. People survive 60 mile an hour crashes all the time,I still cant believe every single one of them died because of the crash.Internal decapitation was mentioned upthread, but if they werent stationary wouldnt they have been less apt to be jerked hard enough to snap their necks? I would also think with so many bodies cushioning others as they bounced around at least a few would have lived. The sad thing is,we can speculate till the cows come home, but if the powers that be dont want you to know the truth, you never will. And although the death count seems staggering, in a limo of this type you are usually seated sideways. I doubt anyone was wearing seat belts. What might have been survivable in usual car seating could be lethal with those two factors taken into consideration.
I remember going on a winery tour with friends to celebrate an engagement and they hired a Lincoln stretch. it was oddly claustrophobic. There must have been at least 16 passengers. The driver treated the car as if it and everything in it was made of eggshells.

Horrible accident. The poor families. Children left orphaned, parents losing four daughters, I simply cannot imagine their grief and shock. The orphans don't even have their mom's sisters to help raise them. From what I read they were a very close family celebrating the youngest sister's 30th birthday.
Being the nosy parker that I am I checked real estate prices in Amsterdam NY where most of them grew up and still lived. Beautiful old homes at very low prices.

I thought that the story was that the owner of the company fled Pakistan b/c his life was in danger there. But now, he flew right back. What was odd to me was that on Monday the phones were already disconnected, would have to have been set in motion prior to Saturday. Curious when he left the country. Was he threatened? Narking on or entrapping dangerous men upstate seems like a risky endeavor, it is possible that the brakes were tampered with?

What happened?
by Anonymous | reply 381 | October 9, 2018 11:16 AM |
Yeah, just stop with the “sped through a stop sign” complaint, would you, please! It was a T-stop. Beyond the stop sign was an embankment. Its like citing a driver for driving over a curbstone which is immediately before a concrete wall. “But the driver sped over a curbstone, so fuck him!” Obviously, the car was already out of control when it went through the intersection.

I doubt the women would be any more liberal, R384, after all many white women voted for Trump. They're adults, not babies and chose to be with the men they married. I don't know about all of the victims or their political views, but one of them worked for NY senator Flanagan who is anti-gay and pro-Trump. Regardless of their politics, these people tried to do the right thing by not drinking and driving and look what happened. No one deserves to die this way.

Who’s the tard who keeps banging on that the local people going to a party at a local brewery hired a local limousine company and didn’t do research? They ordered a party bus, they weren’t crossing the channel and storming Omaha Beach. The address was the street address of the motel and did not mention that the address was a motel. Do you do google street searches when you hire an Uber to see where the driver lives?
Plus, there have been maybe a dozen limousine fatalities over the past 5 years nationwide as opposed to the tens of thousands of private car fatalities during that time period. The state has inspection standards. They are supposed to pull over cars with outdated inspection stickers. Nobody who orders a bus (which is what they ordered) is going to get info on whether or not the bus has passed inspection. Anyway, the bus never showed up and a limo was substituted. They were going to a place they’d all been before, not trekking cross country. They weren’t expecting a limo that failed inspection or an unlicensed driver. Due to state safety standards, one expects a car service to be within those standards or the state should have stepped in and closed the place down.

In 2000/2001 I had a co-worker who was from New York, I'm in Colorado. I knew that she was from NY because she brought it up every chance she got: "When I worked in New York" "When I lived in New York" "Did you know that in New York" and so on.
When 9/11 hit she was beyond catatonic. Everyone was understandably traumatized when it happened and we thought we were going to have to take her to the emergency room.
A few months later I asked her if she knew anyone who was personally affected by 9/11 given that's where she was from, and she didn't. Not a cousin, not a former co-worker, nobody.
I wonder if she's R209.

A FEW UPDATES:
According to some news reports the limo was listed for sale on Craigslist a few days before the crash.
The Albany News reports that the autopsies were completed this morning and the bodies have all been transported to funeral homes in Amsterdam.
They said they will reveal the results of the autopsies in the near future. My guess is a week or so after the funeral/burial.

Doesn't anybody care about the driver? Not even his employers? What's his story?
by Anonymous | reply 445 | October 11, 2018 8:44 PM |
The story of the driver is that he knew he shouldn’t be driving that limo because he wasn’t licensed.
by Anonymous | reply 446 | October 11, 2018 9:18 PM |
I don't know if this is true/accurate but I read that the driver was licensed to drive up to 14 people. That was his cut-off. He was pressured to take these 17 passengers, three over the limit, and also even though the limo had failed safety inspections because there was no one else available and no other bus/limo available that would accommodate all of them. I realize he could have said "no" (and get fired) but he didn't. I think the owner is the mean, money-hungry, bully type. Until I hear otherwise I think the driver is also a victim. BTW & FWIW, the driver is Italian-American, not Muslim or whatever he was called.
As far as the son, his father may have ordered him to keep quiet. We don't have those details. The owner of the limo company is a murderer and should spend the rest of his life in prison. Not sure about the owner's son but the driver is also a victim. Authorities may have charged the son with minimal evidence as a way to force his father to return to the US.
by Anonymous | reply 447 | October 11, 2018 11:26 PM |
But maybe the owner is just in name only? I mean obviously he should be on top of shit that bears his name and his insurance but maybe he didn't know.
by Anonymous | reply 448 | October 11, 2018 11:54 PM |
^ The owner of the limo service is still responsible because he is supposed to know.
If I owned a rollercoaster ride in My Name Enterprises I would need to be on top of the safety inspections and safety ratings even if I was never around to visually inspect the ride myself. If someone died on the rollercoaster due to ignoring safety warnings/negligence, or a malfunction that could have been prevented, it would be my fault. If the rider stood up on the ride then it would be their fault that they were injured or died. Otherwise, barring those kinds of scenarios, I would be the responsible party. But, the limo owner is responsible even if he didn't live in NY. Again, not sure about the son or if they are pinning blame on him to get the father to return to the US.

Any word on the causes of death?
by Anonymous | reply 450 | October 12, 2018 11:25 AM |
r447 his father is an FBI asset who was "run" by them. In other words, he was allowed to go about his business, which can include running a criminal enterprise, hatching a terror plot, or ignoring safety regulations. Western agencies are notorious for this-Lee Rigby's killer in the UK was an asset. Allegedly the Tsarnaeyev (sp?) brothers were, too. Before their mother fled to one of the Stans, she literally said that.

Who was the person that was pulled out alive but died later?
by Anonymous | reply 461 | October 15, 2018 2:58 PM |
^ They have not yet released the name of that victim. But it was reported that, although he/she was pulled out barely alive, they were unconscious and so near death that they died a moment later being placed in the ambulance. I had also heard that a Medics attempt to perform CPR outside the limo was futile since it was obvious upon sight that he/she wasn't going to survive, possibly due to extensive injuries that were so severe survival would have been possible.
If that's true and accurate then he/she was not DOA. They were still considered dead at the scene, meaning no survivors at the scene, instead of only one survivor who was DOA and/or died later at the hospital. I don't know if we will ever get the details, at least those that are accurate, along with the actual cause of death, which I think is most likely internal decapitation.

UPDATE: "Investigators announced the autopsy results Friday afternoon. They say multiple severe traumatic blunt force injuries killed all 20 of the victims in the Oct. 6 tragedy."
BTW, that includes the two pedestrians.
It was also said that they all died instantly and no one suffered, which I hope is true rather than they suffered before dying. But that part we'll never know for sure as they may not have wanted the family to know that they suffered for a few minutes (what would be the point) before they died as opposed to being knocked out in an instant and never knowing what hit them. Toxicology reports are still pending.
by Anonymous | reply 468 | October 19, 2018 7:49 PM |
This is the most bizarre accident ever. These souls died of "severe blunt force trauma" but that limo is in one piece other than the driving compartment. When someone dies from severe blunt force trauma in a plane crash, the plane is generally destroyed or in pieces.
I am lost on this one.
I tend to believe the theory about the engine flying through the limo- As that is the only way all of these people could have died.
And is internal decapitation considered "severe blunt force trauma"??
by Anonymous | reply 469 | October 20, 2018 6:37 PM |
R469 I don't know if this helps, but you know how in car racing, when there is a crash and pieces of the car go flying everywhere? And you are certain that the poor driver is toast, but he's fine? The flying pieces are actually taking energy away from the interior force of the impact. That the limo was almost totally intact means the energy on impact was far greater to the unrestrained passengers who would have banged into each other and/or the interior of the limo upon impact. Add to that the engine shunting, and, well, it is just fucking tragic. The "didn't feel a thing/death was instantaneous" is often told to families by authorities as a comfort.
by Anonymous | reply 470 | October 20, 2018 6:55 PM |
R470, Thank you- your explanation is great.
So basically the force of each others unrestrained bodies essentially colliding with each other (and whatever was inside of the limo) is what caused their deaths. That is somehow so bizarre to contemplate but actually makes sense. I cannot imagine what those rescuers found, and I am guessing they were shocked as well.

by Anonymous | reply 473 | October 20, 2018 10:20 PM |
Yep. R469 / R473 That is what I was trying to describe. Dear god, those poor first responders...
by Anonymous | reply 474 | October 20, 2018 10:30 PM |
That video was a great find. Those poor people. Their poor families.
The video did not address the issue of the brakes not being upgraded to handle the additional weight, likely a factor in NY.
by Anonymous | reply 475 | October 20, 2018 10:48 PM |
I don't know if this is true as I heard it yesterday from someone who knew someone who knew one of the first responders. I live in NY, btw. He said when they first opened the limo doors it was the most horrific scene ever. A few victims either had an arm ripped off or partially torn, and one of the victims' hand was completely severed, and one was decapitated. He said they all had broken bones. So aside from internal decapitation at least one was actually decapitated. Again, I didn't hear this directly from the first responder. He told someone who told a friend of mine so I don't know if its accurate but doubt they would have repeated it if it wasn't.
They also said, exact words, "They were bouncing around in there smashing against the hard surfaces and each other like a BB in a boxcar." That is how he described the last few seconds of their lives. He said most died instantly upon impact and a few others died within seconds. If they didn't die instantly they died relatively quick as opposed to laying there suffering and bleeding out for a few minutes aware of what had happened. Absolutely horrible. I feel so bad for the families. I don't know how you move on after a tragedy like this.
BTW, I have not and will not post this anywhere else as the families might see it, although they've probably been told the details. Highly unlikely they would see it on here though. They were cautioned not to search online for comments as they were warned some people were downright cruel and thoughtless with their comments. I know that because I read it in a reply in one of the comment sections in a news article from one of the mothers who lost a son in the limo crash. She was angry that a deranged poster was blaming all of the deceased for not refusing the limo and waiting for one that was safe. So some of the family members are reading comments but seriously doubt they'd be here on the DL.

I wonder if people should put the date in the title when they say "BREAKING NEWS" - given this is two weeks old now.
by Anonymous | reply 477 | October 20, 2018 11:32 PM |
It was the main thread. Its either that or have everyone bitch that I started a duplicate thread-
by Anonymous | reply 478 | October 20, 2018 11:34 PM |
Oh my comment wasn't directed to anyone... just random thoughts about how these threads pop up all the time on many topics.
by Anonymous | reply 479 | October 20, 2018 11:38 PM |
Thank you r476 I do indeed hope that there was as little suffering as possible. I worry for the living at this point, especially the kids of the victims.
R477 sure, you go right ahead and figure out how to do that. We bitched enough early on upthread about how this thread was named. If it gets to 600 and it likely will, the second thread will be titled more accurately. I hope you will be able to sleep at night with this reassurance.
by Anonymous | reply 480 | October 20, 2018 11:39 PM |
R468, I’ve never heard of an autopsy report that read “they suffered miserably for quite a long time before slowly watching each other die, one by one, until only the dying driver was left. Oh, and each one pooped their pants, too.”
by Anonymous | reply 481 | October 20, 2018 11:42 PM |
What was the combined weight of the heifers in the limo?
by Anonymous | reply 482 | October 20, 2018 11:51 PM |
40 years ago when I learned how to drive, I heard about the engine coming into the driver’s section and crushing your legs, in an accident.
by Anonymous | reply 483 | October 20, 2018 11:53 PM |
This is too gruesome to read in full. jesus.
by Anonymous | reply 484 | October 20, 2018 11:55 PM |
After watching the crash test video I definitely thought they would have been scrambled. Reading R476's post confirmed that.
I wouldn't be surprised if relatives find this thread. It's already been circulated on Reddit.
by Anonymous | reply 485 | October 21, 2018 12:00 AM |
R485 Can Redditors delete their own posts R485 ? If so, and your are one yourself, perhaps you could persuade them or the mods to delete any link to this thread?
by Anonymous | reply 486 | October 21, 2018 12:09 AM |
Yikes that crash test video could really put a dent in the limo business if they showed it in Health Class just prior to the prom.
by Anonymous | reply 487 | October 21, 2018 12:33 AM |
It was freakish.
by Anonymous | reply 488 | October 21, 2018 12:38 AM |
R485 / R486 I hope they can delete the links to this thread because there are some really nasty comments way upthread. Given the "Breaking News" thread title it probably wouldn't surface but link it and they will see what some really mean people posted upthread and early in the thread too.

Yeah, I remember someone heard something from someone who knew somebody back in the Aunt Diane thread who told all kinds of lies, including that her limbs were severed and scattered about. Meanwhile, we had actual accident photos and a coroners report. Her limbs were not severed. Keep a jaundiced eye when you read these “I know somebody who knows someone who said that something happened.”
by Anonymous | reply 490 | October 21, 2018 12:54 AM |
R481 No one suggested that would be included in an autopsy report. I guess reading comprehension isn't your strong point. What was included in the autopsy report is quoted. It's in quotes numbie. Pooped. WTF? Go back on your meds, darling. Or stop drinking.

F&F and Blocked you at 476.
**I cannot see your 489 490 491 or 492 posts either** or any of the other 18 disgusting, ugly comments posted upthread. Since you are the only poster I have blocked I can see how you shit all over a few other threads and derailed one. But do keep posting so when you sober up you can see what a fool you are when you're drunk and trolling. Or maybe you don't need to be drunk to be an asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 495 | October 21, 2018 1:40 AM |
I suggest you take leave of this thread if it is too much for you r495. I can see all of the posts you mentioned and you are reading into things that aren't there. I also suggest that you take a Xanax, have a drinkie-poo and calm the fuck down.
by Anonymous | reply 496 | October 21, 2018 1:57 AM |
The Reddit link to here was in the donald trump sub, when people here said it's good they died since they were trump voters, it was pretty fucked up but I doubt anyone is coming here from there, esp. their families. I want to always talk about logistics so I hope they aren't here. That video was crazy. I have been trying to wrap my head around "how" also. That's why I like DL, we can talk about that kind of stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 497 | October 21, 2018 2:55 AM |
The deaths from trauma is from the high impact banging against the inside of the car or each other. That's why seat belts are so important because they keep you from flying around inside a car crash and minimize your injuries. Stretch limos tend not to have them and few would out them on in a limo party atmosphere anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 498 | October 21, 2018 11:31 AM |
Yeah, but if you’re wearing a seatbelt and no one else is, you’re still gonna die when they hit you at high impact while you’re strapped into your seat. That would be my luck because I automatically put a seat belt on as soon as I get into a car, without even thinking.
I wonder why no one seems to have interviewed anyone who saw the accident. There was a whole crowd of people at that apple stand.

by Anonymous | reply 503 | November 16, 2018 8:12 PM |
We were just talking the other day about this horrible accident and wondering how the families are doing. It must be hitting them really hard now especially that the holidays are right around the corner. Terrible. Really feel for them.

I truly cannot fathom this accident still and now no one survived-
Its beyond comprehension, and I do not recall an accident like this ever with vehicle so intact.
But the the scientific stuff above at least makes some sense. However again, I do not recall a vehicle EVER looking like that with no survivors.
by Anonymous | reply 508 | November 17, 2018 4:32 PM |
^ Same here. And also with that number of passengers. I could understand if there were 6 or 8, whatever and they all died, but 18, how could that be?
When I was in high school many years ago 8 teenage girls in the drivers' dad's borrowed station wagon decided to outrun an oncoming train, ignoring the red flashing signals, and of course all were instantly killed. The car was ripped in half. And another time 7 teen boys testing out their new stereo system, blasting it as loud as could be while backing out of their parents driveway, unaware a fire truck with sirens blaring was barreling down the road on its way to a house fire. The boys' car ended up in pieces upon impact and everyone was dismembered, even decapitated. I've heard of other similar types of disasters where all the passengers in a car died. But 18 in limo. And where there was no damage to the exterior. Never heard of this before.
I agree with upthread that they most likely died of internal decapitation upon impact. Heartbreaking. So sad for the families and friends. I hope they have the strength to get through this, although they'll never get over it.

Does anyone know the seating arrangement of the interior of this limo? Were there several rows of seats facing forward? Or were there 2 long rows of seats where about 8 passengers faced 9 passengers (Sideway seating)?
by Anonymous | reply 510 | November 17, 2018 5:35 PM |
I am sure it was sideways

by Anonymous | reply 516 | November 19, 2018 7:49 PM |
All 17 died in an unsmashed vehicle cabin??!! Have they done a thorough investigation? 1)Some passengers complained of a very noisy engine. Did the limo turn into a hearse from carbon monoxide poisoning before the crash? 2)I read that the impact pushed limo engine back into the cabin..ALL the way back, bludgeoning, dismembering all 17, maybe? Perhaps the media is not releasing the gory, grisly details in honor of the victims.
by Anonymous | reply 517 | November 28, 2018 9:44 PM |
R517, Your engine theory I think was debunked- I do believe it went into the drivers seat area but not into the cabin.
Despite all of the logical and scientific type posts here, I still cannot FATHOM how they all died with that vehicle in that condition.
It really fucks with my mind.
May they rest in peace- Very tragic.
by Anonymous | reply 518 | November 28, 2018 11:46 PM |
I'd hate for the engine to enter the car as I was driving. It might be uncomfortable.
by Anonymous | reply 519 | December 6, 2018 10:08 PM |
Have there been any other photos released of the limo than what was posted originally? This case really has a "clamp down" factor information-wise that I find rather hinky.

First, let me echo R521, who actually sounds like me, and may well be me, but this was many moons and brain cells ago.
Question, any updates on how this all shook out? Payoffs? Prison terms? How surviving family members are doing? It's like the story disappeared.
