She is absolutely terrible on the new season of Murphy Brown. I'm shocked, she has never been a great actress but she's just insufferably bland nowadays. It's like they're using cue cards or teleprompter for her.
This is her Life With Lucy.

Stroke Survivor. Cut her some slack, please.

The booze bloat qualifies her for the highest court in the land!

She is the last person I ever thought would let herself get fat. I wonder if it's prednisone or something. She looks like an apple now. I never found her funny. She is very full of herself.

Lots of Candice haters here....

Candice probably does use cue cards or teleprompter. She suffered memory loss when she had her stroke several years ago, and she admits her memory is still shaky.

People get old. People get fat.
Episode 2 was an improvement over episode 1, and there were some nice Jake McDorman shots.

R5 Her weight gain is likely a mix of medication, quitting smoking, and in an interview a couple of years ago she said that she just stopped caring and decided she was going to eat what she wanted to eat.

It's not only her, the whole cast is bad except for the guy playing her son
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 6, 2018 9:01 PM |
The guy playing her son has no comedic timing.

Yeah... blame 75lbs in the jowls on a stroke...

She thought she had my talent, she didn't. She didn't even approach Mortimer's

R12, Nobody's blaming her weight gain on the stroke.

I find her line readings now to be identical to the original series. Aggressive, with a flatness of tone and no hint of irony. It’s her way. Her only way.

R15, so true, I recently watched a clip of her from an early season of SNL (first or second season). She was in a scene with Gilda and her line delivery was exactly as you described it, about 15 years before the original Murphy Brown. That's all she's got folks...

I was never a huge fan of the original and this update isn't changing my opinion. I agree with r15, Bergen is as good as she ever was - which isn't very. Faith Ford is the one that struck me as having gotten much worse.

Everybody in the cast seems "off." Joe Regalbuto seems lost, Grant Shaud doesn't know what to do with hmself when others are saying their lines, the guy who plays Avery keeps rubbing his eye or doing some odd quirk whenever he has to convey thought, and Candi and Faith are merely reciting lines, badly, as if they're at a table read. I get the impression that they're under-rehearsed and are winging it most of the time.

Then Tyne Daly comes onscreen and seems real and believable and knows why her character's there and she talks like a human being.
