What is your opinion on Cheesecake Factory?
Menu too long. Lines to long.

I have eaten there for years, but the last time I went I was bitterly disappointed. Not only that but they dropped two of my faves from the menu. Fuck them.

DL hates all chains of all kinds. Who knew so many DLets had so much in common with hipsters?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 6, 2018 2:11 AM |
Menu too long, yet I never see anything on it that I want to order. In the past I’ve usually found the thai chicken lettuce wraps to be the most tolerable option. The portions are enormous—way, way too big. I ordered a salad once and it came in a comically oversized metal mixing bowl. I would have been delighted with it if I were a goat or a giant rabbit, but as it is I felt like a child who was not permitted to leave the table until I’d made my best effort to clean my plate. I ate and ate and ate and barely made a dent in that damned thing.
I have never had room for, or interest in, their actual desserts. Just looking at those monster slices of cheesecake at the cake counter turns me off, and ordinarily I LOVE dessert. The real NY cheesecake I remember from my youth in the 80’s was much smaller but deliciously rich with a mouthfeel that was both dense and crumbly. Cheesecake Factory cheesecake is like an oversized blob of sugary, calorie-laden goop that’s too fluffy, like the consistency of Cool Whip.
If I’m going to a big chain frauey restaurant, I’ll take the Melting Pot over Cheesecake Factory any day.

The Melting Pot is for morons who want to pay way too much for stupid food.

There's one within walking distance of my condo. We've been twice. It was bad the first time but we went back a few months later because we really liked it back in the day. It was worse the second time. Who serves cold french fries and expects the customer to be happy with that? Never going back there. However, we still plan to go to their other chain, Grand Lux Cafe, next time we're in New Jersey. It has really good ratings online.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 6, 2018 2:22 AM |
Typical American garbage, just alot more of it.
I remember seeing the long lines and thinking it must be like a paradise inside. Ha! It was dark and ugly. And the menu! “Menu too long, yet I never see anything on it that I want to order.” Yep. And the food, Obviously pre-packaged in plastic and heated up. No way they are cooking back there in that kitchen. So gross. I will never go back!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 6, 2018 2:25 AM |
There are a few good things on the menu. First of all, never order the fries. They will be cold and rubbery, probably sat under a light for 20 minutes. Only order them if you demand them fresh.
The macaroni and cheese balls are awesome. So are many of the other appetizers. All the cheesecake is good. I also like some of the small plates like the spicy Caesar salad. But a lot of the main courses suck.

You type frau. Or fat. I can't decide.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 6, 2018 2:27 AM |
The Melting Pot is tedious af but it’s decent if you get a cocktail, a salad, a cheese fondue, skip the actual entree (I don’t have two hours to be cooking my own meat two bite-sized portions at a time!), and then a chocolate dessert fondue if you so desire. Again, it’s not that I actually seek out the Melting Pot but it’s much better than Cheesecake Factory, if you’re going to a gimmicky frau restaurant.

From the colors and decor to the menu to the types of food to the portions, it is one of the most American culinary experiences you can have. Made to gorge and consume as much as physically possible. Just more...size, calories, options. Back when I had a bingeing disorder, I enjoyed it. Now it holds no appeal and I think how sick I will feel if I eat it.

High calorie, overly salty, mass-produced-tasting entrees. The cheesecake will taste decent to anyone who hasn't ever had good cheesecake. It's the American food version of PF Chang's and the Olive Garden.

The menu is too long and like the poster above says, nothing I wanted to order on there. Of all things, I ended up ordering an omelet. The cheesecakes are actually good. I think they reduced the size of the slice, which doesn't make sense to me. I like the dulce de leche cheesecake.

One of the best quesadillas I’ve ever had. Their cheesecakes are all really good too. I love the pecan pumpkin one they get right about now.

by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 6, 2018 5:26 AM |
One thing that concerns me about big menus is the freshness of all the ingredients. Even with the volume of a Cheesecake Factory, there has to be some things that aren't ordered often, and might sit around for a little bit too long.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 6, 2018 5:29 AM |
Yeah, r44, I mean don’t get the salmon or anything too “Real restaurant-y.” You know those senior citizens who will go to a diner and actually order a real fish dinner or something like that. Yeah no.
Things like their pizzas quesadillas, tuna fish sandwiches, spinach dip, I’m sure is more than fine.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 6, 2018 5:33 AM |
Don’t worry. It’s not fresh. I tried to get them to remove a problem ingredient from something I ordered and they said they couldn’t because the sauce came pre-prepared in a bag and they just heated it up.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 6, 2018 5:39 AM |
R45 Their herb crusted salmon is the only thing I order, and it's perfect. However, when I tried to order a samosas appetizer at different CFs, some chefs couldn't get it right, so I just stick to what they know how to make, herb crusted salmon.
Now, I'm not a cheesecake lover, but I will eat one, especially if they are free via the kindness of a friend. I don't like that their crust is soggy. Once, I ordered a diet/low carb cheesecake, and I loved it. Since, they didn't use their soggy graham cracker crust, they used chopped nuts. Devine.
If I'm in the mood to pay for dessert, I tend to order the lemoncello w/a side of strawberries. Perfection.

by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 6, 2018 5:52 PM |
I ate there mostly in the late 90s and early 00s because I was near one & it was very popular with everyone. The items I liked the most are not on the menu anymore (sesame encrusted salmon was one...hard to remember all of them). Some of the others are not as good, but still on the menu - chicken madiera. They also increased the prices 30-40% since then. The Chinese chicken salad was enormous back in the day and it is half the size now & more expensive. The portions actually used to be much bigger, for as much as people claim they are huge now. The actual food isn't their main expense. Labor is. So, making huge portions isn't really their concern. You can take things home, anyway (or is that too tacky?).
The strawberry fruit smoothie used to be so good. I remember it was a splurge for 4.95. So good though. Then I think they started using a syrup mix with ice instead of real fruit. The old one used to make you get seeds stuck in your teeth.
The blackout cake has always been good. I kind of remember the chocolate mousse cheesecake there was really good, but some of the non-chocolate ones are a little chalky and sugary compared to others. I grew up eating Eli's cheesecake (and wasn't 200 lbs... just occasionally in the fridge). So, that was my standard.
The menu is just the same ingredients recombined 100 ways. It's like the taco bell menu. I don't see the issue of it being "way too long." Just pick something & close it. You're not obligated to read the whole thing.

Decided to quit going to CF after one too many horrible meals -- their proteins (chicken, beef) must be the same meat that's used for pet food. God awful. And the cooks never seem to make the dish how it's described on the menu. Not to mention it's really expensive for the crap you get. And no one needs to be eating their cheesecake with the obesity and diabetes epidemics. NO MORE

My older sister LOVES the Cheesecake Factory. Her favorite all time saying is “that’s not nice”. I rest my case.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | October 8, 2018 11:51 PM |
Ate there a few times, but never by my own choice.
Each time I found the food way too heavy and rich--and I'm not a health nut at all. I enjoy a little fattiness to my food.
But everything was soaked in butter, or slathered in a cream or sweet sauce, or leaving giant greasy stains all over my fingers/napkin.
I ordered an eggplant sandwich--thinking that would be relatively light--and the bread was drenched in butter and mayo. Completely overpowered any other flavor from the sandwich.
The first two bites were tasty, but by the third bite, I started to feel sick and couldn't eat anymore.

When it first opened I tried the one at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas and loved it. Loved the entree, loved the cheesecake. There were none where I lived so it was a few years before I tried them again. By then the quality of the food had deteriorated, and the cheesecakes were just meh. I also noticed that the crowds were different. Fatter. I'm talking about morbidly obese. Whole groups of them. Families. It was repulsive. I never went back. And thanks to that visit, my eating habits have changed.

I started eating and ate and ate and ATE but I didn’t even make a tiny dent in it. My inability to consume even a small fraction of my enormous Spicy Caesar was very emotionally triggering.
I somehow made it back home, I don’t remember how, where I found comfort in the tea saucer and thimble that I use for dishware. I’m still processing what happened at Cheesecake Factory, or should I say ForceFeed Factory, but I advise you all to steer clear.

Never eat at a restaurant that has the word “Factory” in its name.

Corollary to r114: avoid restaurants with warehouse in the name. There was a place in Houston called the Spaghetti Warehouse that friends in high school oved back in the 70s. I went to be sociable, but never understood the appeal. Hurricane Harvey put the final nail in its coffin.

Everything on the menu is made from scratch in-house every day so that we can maintain the highest food quality standards. Ugh, Breeder Hell. They're drawn to words like 'factory' and 'cheese'.

It’s not that bad you guys. Some of their dishes are really yummy. Like the Thai lettuce wraps!

Thia Chicken salad is pretty good, but just order a half portion. That’s plenty.

DL, What's wrong with splitting an order or asking for a to-go box? Portions are usually huge in Vegas and many dishes taste even better reheated the next day.

My niece picked CF for lunch one day last December, and I went to the website to look at the menu, all volumes, so I didn't have to flip through the encyclopedia when we got there.
Lo and behold, CF had an online special for TWO free pieces of cheesecake for $25 gift card. So, I bought $100 of gift cards and got certs for EIGHT pieces of cheesecake. The meal was OK but I finally maxed out the slices as the CF near me is on the way to my grocerie store. I was told you have to be alert for the TWO slice offer as it only happens on two days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Just sharing for the people who eat there.

"I went there once. I ordered a salad and was horrified when it came out. Its size actually frightened me, and I had to be coaxed back to the table. I started eating and ate and ate and ATE but I didn’t even make a tiny dent in it. My inability to consume even a small fraction of my enormous Spicy Caesar was very emotionally triggering...I found comfort in the tea saucer and thimble that I use for dishware."
Sure, Jan...
