Is it still a good movie or is it passé and irrelevant. The three leads are all very good accomplished actors. Stamp as the post op tranny was just awesome. I remember seeing it in the theatre with my same aged 20 year old bf and we both loved it.

Why don't you light your tampon and blow your box apart OP, because that's the only bang you're ever gonna get, sweetheart!!!

Still an awesome movie. Love the ABBA songs et al.

I'm surprised they don't even mention Olivia Newton John in this film and that they didn't use any of her songs on the soundtrack (one of the characters briefly mentions Xanadu, but that's it). I heard Australians are ashamed of everything Australian (so-called "cultural cringe") so maybe that's the reason.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 5, 2018 6:26 AM |
That's all we need! A cock in a frock on a rock.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 5, 2018 6:42 AM |
We aren't R5. Just more bullshit that Americans like to peddle about Australians on the DL.
Olivia Newton John is a much-loved Australian treasure.

Why does Oz have so many homos when it doesn't have a huge population? Seems pretty queer.

Don’t forget To Wong Foo, Thanks for everything! Julie Newmar
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 5, 2018 7:03 AM |
Bullshit ONJ is not an Aussie treasure r7
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 5, 2018 7:04 AM |
It's a good movie. Clever plot, good writing and acting....though Terence Stamp can. not. dance.
Watch the big performance montage number at the end. Lots of very fast editing to disguise the fact poor ole Terry has two left feet. (But, he's still great in the role.)
And, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the puerile "To Wong Foo...." which come out about the same time which has an idiotic script, horrible direction and dumb performances. It's not even well cast.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 5, 2018 7:04 AM |
R11 I beg to differ. To Wong Foo was less cliche
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 5, 2018 7:14 AM |
To Wong Foo was an embarrassment. The black guy who beat the crap out of Halle Berry all the time. Swayze was looking pretty bad already. The latino guy was the only good thing. He could pass as a real woman. The 50 year old who played a teenager in Grease was ok.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 5, 2018 7:14 AM |
Just want to add that ONJ doesn’t even live in Oz
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 5, 2018 7:15 AM |
So what?? {R14). Most of her work is in the USA, she owns property in Oz, and is always very pro-Australia.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 5, 2018 7:34 AM |
R15 What work ? Isn’t she retired and with cancer ?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 5, 2018 10:19 AM |
I wanted Guy Pearce in drag! A beauty.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 5, 2018 11:07 AM |
between this and Muriel's Wedding, i wonder what's with ABBA and Australia
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 5, 2018 11:19 AM |
R18 the ABBA love is sad.

Don't forget the fantastic costumes. The designers got the Academy Award that year and the girl showed up in a dress made of AMERICAN EXPRESS CARDS! Witty enterprise front to back.

A delightful movie, then and now.

God yes. Guy Pearce. Gorgeous.

I saw it a few years ago, I thought it was a good film. I do feel like all three leads are aids patients.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 5, 2018 6:58 PM |
What the fuck, R23? Are you "the aids" freak?
I haven't had breakfast, so F/F for you.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 5, 2018 7:09 PM |
R23 means the aids.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 5, 2018 7:24 PM |
“Cliche” is a noun, R12.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 5, 2018 7:27 PM |
Lol. Good one. Cliche is not a word. Cliché is.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 5, 2018 10:23 PM |
It's good but saw it recently and Terrance Stamp was miscast. I never believed him as a drag queen.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 5, 2018 10:26 PM |
It says in the original post he is a post op tranny. He is not a god damned drag queen.

A few years back, my (straight) brother and I got together for dinner, and he asked me to pick a movie on Netflix that we both could watch. I asked for 'Priscilla', which he had never heard of before. He really enjoyed it: we both laughed at the same bits, and had a great time. So I think it holds up well. I had to point out to him the other roles the leads had played: he knew Terence Stamp from 'Superman', Hugo Weaving from 'The Matrix' and Guy Pearce from 'LA Confidential'. I waited until the movie was over to tell him, and he was almost in disbelief, since they had all occupied their roles so successfully.

Guy Pearce was such a hot little piece in this!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 6, 2018 1:50 AM |
I love this movie and I have to see it at least once a year. Guy Pierce was beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 6, 2018 1:59 AM |
Pierce was hot but all three leads were oddly sanitized and sexless. I could not imagine any of them having sex with men. That is the writer/director's fault. Then throwing in the lezzie wife and rugrat was making movies by the numbers. Gee, who do we want to watch, who do we not want to offend?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 6, 2018 2:03 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 6, 2018 2:09 AM |
I liked it back in the 90's and I like it today. This film made me happier for having seen it. Not many (actually, none) have that effect on me today. I blame it on old age.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 6, 2018 2:29 AM |
It was hilarious the way they made Sydney out to be a badass, violent version of LA and New York with the gay community having a bogan edge, instead of the bourgie-yuppie place it really is.

by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 6, 2018 1:05 PM |
remember the 90s, when putting a drag queen in an indie movie meant that you were so edgy, cool and tres moderne? We were so naive!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 6, 2018 1:09 PM |
And remember how bold Hollywood thought they were with their American version of it, r45?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 6, 2018 2:19 PM |
It's kind of sad that Stephan Elliott didn't have any more successes after this.
It's funny that he didn't come out publically as gay until 2012, almost 20 years after Priscilla.
I was thinking about how the most effeminate man in Priscilla was a heterosexual (Guy Pearce) and the most effeminate member of Boys in the Band (Cliff Gorman as "Emory") was also hetero.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 6, 2018 2:20 PM |
I just finished watching it again for the fourth or fifth time about twenty minutes ago. It was still very entertaining, and a nice diversion from our current shitty reality.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 6, 2018 2:23 PM |
R48 we can just imagine what a shitty hellish life you lead. Poor girl.

by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 6, 2018 10:58 PM |
I feel Stamp was the most fascinating character to watch. Obviously world-weary, with few fucks left to give, she was barely going through the motions on stage. She'd seen it all, done it all and was just looking for a small spot of happiness, somewhere, before the inevitable. Wished there had been a sequel, and wondered what it would've looked like. Perhaps it's better there wasn't one, a sequel would've intruded onto their lives and probably ruined it( as so many sequels do) for the many fans of this funny/sad but inevitably uplifting film.
The most compelling scene in the movie started in the underground video store, then segued to Pearce being "unmasked," chased and terrified by those boozehounds. Bernadette to the rescue. "There, now you're fucked."
Best throwaway line: "What a rude woman."

I really like this film. The main characters are part of the BGT but the G and T hate each other but through the trip they begin to get along ultimately reaching the mountaintop both figuratively and literally.
