Cher is a queen, Madge is nothing.

I like Cher but I really don't have a reason other than she's been around so long. I've never liked most of her hits. In fact she really awful stuff. Her movies are okay. But she's been around forever and never made a huge ass of herself. I always thought she was pro gay but I recently read on DL that she is ambivalent - not really a big fan of the gays. I was sorry to hear this and hope it's wrong.

Anyone have what Madonna has to say about Cher?

Madonna is a more talented musician, but Cher seems to be a more interesting person.

Madonna has recorded more interesting stuff IMO. I like them both but for different reasons. They are hard to compare because their careers have been very different.

I doubt Madonna cares what she thinks. Has she even commented on Cher's comments, or even about Cher in general?

Never been a huge fan of Cher's music. I like her mid 80s to early 90s stuff, though. Much prefer her as an actress.

Would rather listen to Madonna's stuff from the 80s up to Confessions (not counting American Life...blah).

Oh, no. In addition to providing good vocals, Madonna writes some of her own music, and practically orchestrates it all, as well. She's really into producing a great song, and half the time, she does.

Cher is more of a personality who happens to sing. She always has the same "dog braying at the moon " sound. (I say that with love, of course.) You just kind of put a generic song in front of her and she sings it...then she does a costume change.

Madonna happens to be an inept actress, which probably goes back to her being a very shallow, limited person. That is why I say Cher is more interesting as a person, but Madonna is a more accomplished and talented musician.

Madge isn't exactly the brightest bulb. Have you ever listened to her try to talk about politics? Disaster.

Cher had Sonny to guide her career, to write and produce their songs, and to use his connections with Phil Spector to get a recording contract. After she dumped Sonny, she was already an established star, surrounded by supporters who helped her on her solo career.

Madonna had to rely on herself. In a business dominated by men and shady characters who broke promises if they didn't get what they wanted. So if Madge wasn't very magnanimous, it's probably because of all the shit she had to deal with to rise to the top.

I don't like either one of them. They both have minimal talent. Both of them, in the past, got attention by making videos where they were nearly naked. Both of them were rude or arrogant in interviews. Both of them rely heavily on other songwriters.

For all of Cher's singing career, I can name just three songs: the corny duet with Sonny Bono; the early 90s video (Turn Back Time) where she wore skimpy lingerie onstage; and the overplayed novelty song, Believe. I'm of the opinion that if you don't write songs, and you can't play an instrument, then you should leave the singer-for-hire stuff to people who were born to sing. Cher has gotten nicer as she's gotten older, mainly in the past two decades. Before that, she was always scowling at the camera.

I'd have to give Madonna the edge, because she seems to do some songwriting, and she can play an instrument. And she also seems to be good at marketing, using more themes than just "nekkid". But her personality makes her unlikeable, unfortunately.

While I'd say Cher, underneath it all, is a cooler all-around person than Madonna, I also think she's gone really far in life on a pretty slight degree of talent.
