Did it cure your fissure? I'm in serious pain from an anal fissure going on 2 months. It's a living hell and i'm very depressed. I am thinking about having the surgery done, it can't be anymore painful than what i'm going through now. Any thoughts or opinions? Serious please....
Anyone here ever had a lateral sphincterotomy due to anal fissures?

[quote]Anal fissures are very common in young infants but can affect people of any age. Most anal fissures get better with simple treatments, such as increased fiber intake or sitz baths. Some people with anal fissures may need medication or, occasionally, surgery.
What exactly are you doing that caused such a severe occurrence?
Step #1 would be to stop that. Then, perhaps try some less drastic intervention. What has your doctor told you? or, are you just making it up as you go along without the benefit of a medical professional?

OP, go to a colorectal doctor if you havent already, GPs know very little about this problem. Go to a couple of them if possible as their opinions about treatment vary. Fortunately mine healed after a while and I didnt need that surgery. There are different forums online where people talk about their results after the procedure.

OP here. It was caused from being constipated R1. I went to see a doctor and he gave me cream to relax the sphincter to promote healing. I've been taking sitz baths 3x a day. I am drinking a lot of water and taking stool softeners, miralax, and treating with coconut oil and some fissure ointment. I really do not want to have the surgery but the pain is so bad im almost willing to do it

There is actually a compounded prescription (nifedipine) ointment that works wonderfully for anal fissures. Have you tried it?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 1, 2018 2:30 AM |
R4, the doctor gave me diltiazem 2% cream. it hasn't done anything that i can tell. I will call and ask him about the nifedipine ointment tomorrow. thank you for telling me about it.

I had this surgery about 15 years ago. It went very well--under general anesthesia--and recovery was fast. And no more pain.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 1, 2018 2:34 AM |
Thanks R6, i'm glad it worked for you. How long did it take you to decide to do the surgery?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 1, 2018 2:40 AM |
Photos or it didn't happen.

Liar. Physicians use local, not general anesthesia for that procedure. Quit making up stuff just to be heard.

It depends on the depth of the anal fissure. If it's superficial, diet and ointments can help it repair itself. If it's deep, get the procedure. R9 the surgery can be done with a local, or general, anesthesia. It depends on the surgeon and the complexity of the procedure. Again, superficial or deep. YMMV.
OP, good luck! If your insurance covers it and you're committed to a better diet (high fiber, lots of hydration) so you don't have a recurrence, by all means, go under the knife. Bottom line: find out how deep the fissure goes. See a specialist.

R9 That is not true, I know someone who had it and they were put under for the duration of the surgery.

I had this issue a few months ago. It was hell on Earth. I was doing 6 sits baths with epsom salt and tee tree oil every day plus all of the fiber supplements and stool softeners imaginable. I started researching the surgery, and almost everyone said it was 10 times more painful than left untreated and recovery was up to six weeks. The. I started researching homeopathic remedies. This sounds crazy, but it cleared up my problem in a week. Coat a peeled clove of organic garlic with coconut oil. Poke a bunch of holes in it with a fork, and then insert it into your rectum. Leave it there over night, and shit it out in the morning. Some people said it burned really badly, but I didn’t have any issues. I swear to God this worked. I cried when I got up the first morning because I already had some relief.

Anal transplants are all the rage, "smokers mouth" from cadavers.

I really appreciate all I've learned from my DL brothers about anal hygiene. One time I had a single hemmoroid/raised vein and this hot guy was about to start eating me out. Unfortunately it was a well lit area. It stopped him in his tracks. Get well soon OP!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 1, 2018 3:36 AM |
Thanks for your help. R10. OP here. At this point i wouldn't mind an anal transplant. Anything to have my life back. I see the doctor this Wednesday for my follow-up appointment. I'll post an update.

For two days after the surgery, the pain was so intense I couldn't sit or even lie still. It was awful, and they didn't give me pain medication.
But after that nightmare of recovery and healing was over, it was worth it. But damn.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 1, 2018 3:46 AM |
Thanks R12, i'll try the garlic. Anything that will help it heal.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 1, 2018 3:48 AM |
Don't do the garlic before your appointment! LOL
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 1, 2018 3:52 AM |
R16, damn, i'm so sorry you had to experience so much pain. How long was your recovery? My doctor also said no pain meds, it causes constipation. I've been taking 4 advil a day. it helps a little.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 1, 2018 3:54 AM |
constipation... a likely story.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 1, 2018 9:21 AM |
Roughage would have prevented this sad story.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 1, 2018 9:41 AM |
That’s terrible, OP, good luck.

Tried Rectiv and Xylocaine?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 1, 2018 9:59 AM |
I developed an anal fissure at 9 due to chronic constipation, I was around 14 when a doctor finally decided surgery was necessary, unfortunately, the general surgeon at the hospital I went to was so worried about making me incontinent that he later told me as I still lay in my hospital bed that he "barely cut at all" needless to say his caution made the surgery all but pointless, I still have it but I've learned to control my diet and fluid intake...along with judicious laxative use to ease the symptoms but if I could find a good surgeon here in Hillbilly Holler I'd gladly go through it again if it meant I could be done with having to be anxious about shitting.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 1, 2018 10:31 AM |
Here's the thing...and I'm sure you've already read about it, but fissures never fully go away unless you have surgery. They may heal over, but once it happens it'll always just be a "temporary" heal until your next bout of bad constipation, etc.

Botox?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 1, 2018 11:08 AM |
Have they removed that 14" schlong from your colon yet? That would be Step One.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 1, 2018 1:51 PM |
OP, have you considered a plant based diet? I typically shit about four times a day.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 1, 2018 2:11 PM |
My dr used boyox on my fissures
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 1, 2018 3:11 PM |
Mine disappeared after I quit drinking. A combination of not poisoning my body and sobriety making me more vigilant when it came to self care. And not always eating junk. And it’s been a long time since I’ve let a man go “down there”.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 1, 2018 3:45 PM |
Take metamucil. Seriously, it's the first step to healing fissures.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 1, 2018 3:51 PM |
Thanks to this thread I am going to double down on MY Metamucil!

Many gay men dismiss the toll that anal sex takes on the rectum and anus. It really is something that needs to be considered with some risk. Not to be anti-anal, but it can really screw things up- hemmorhoids, fissures, loose sphincter in old age. Another reality check in the age of porn where it seems like there are no consequences for any or all sexual activity.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 1, 2018 4:03 PM |
Fissures happen from your ass being too tight, not too loose or over used. Im sure that wont stop any of these certain previous posters from thinking it is the result of a prolific amount of evil anal sex.

I've heard that tired old wheeze since I came of age in the '70s. Right out of Dr. Ruben's 'Everything You've Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask'.
I've been taking it up the ass for over 40 years (sorry to disgust you kids, but we old guys still fuck) and I have never had a problem with hemorrhoids, fissures, incontinence, or even constipation
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 1, 2018 5:14 PM |
I had it done many years ago after suffering for months. I don't even know how/why I got the fissure, but I tried everything and it wouldn't heal. I went to a specialist for the procedure. I was put under (maybe propofol?) I don't remember the healing being painful- certainly no worse than the fissure, which was excruciating! I do think that since then, it's been harder to hold back from passing gas, so that might be from the surgery. No problems at all with any sort of "leakage", though. I sympathize with you - fissures really are incredibly painful.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 1, 2018 5:46 PM |
Yes - fissures and emmorhoids can be caused by a lot of things. However, I got fissures from anal sex. So don’t discount or deny it is a potential cause. Clearly not the case here - but it DOES happen. As does loose sphincter. I’m pro-sex but I hear echoes of “don’t criticize anything about gay sex” denial here. Anal sex does cause issues - young people should be aware and make choices and not be fed the “anal sex will never cause harm” party line.

Does being double penetrated cause this?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 1, 2018 6:01 PM |
OP: R6 here. Sorry for the late reply. It didn’t take me long to decide to do the surgery, because at that point I had done all of the “lesser” measures to no avail. My doctor said I would be out of commission the rest of the day of surgery, but I was basically fine after that.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 1, 2018 8:40 PM |
Yes, R39, but no problem with triple penetration.
