the director released the camera test. What sayeth DL?
Joaquin Phoenix IS the next JOKER! Here's how he's going to look!
by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 26, 2018 1:13 AM |
I did not like Heath Ledger in his role as “Joker”.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 21, 2018 11:17 PM |
Ugly
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 21, 2018 11:18 PM |
Best Joker ever!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 21, 2018 11:23 PM |
The origin story is he has a cleft palate
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 21, 2018 11:25 PM |
Boring. Put the franchise down and walk away. It's tired and needs to sleep for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 21, 2018 11:25 PM |
John Wayne Gacy overtones.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 21, 2018 11:35 PM |
Awful. The Joker is NOT The Crow!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 21, 2018 11:38 PM |
yawn... fucking comics movies. hate this retarded shit.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 21, 2018 11:39 PM |
Horrid. The Joker is scarred, The Joker doesn’t pat on makeup. Shit.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 21, 2018 11:41 PM |
Emmett Kelly applied make-up with more finesse.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 21, 2018 11:44 PM |
Joaquin has better act like he's never acted before.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 21, 2018 11:45 PM |
The whole idea of the Joker is thoroughly wrung out and tired. DC is braindead.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 21, 2018 11:45 PM |
Jack Nicholson is the only good Joker so far (in movies).
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 21, 2018 11:48 PM |
Boring. Cliched. He'd look scarier with No makeup.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 21, 2018 11:53 PM |
R14 = Rooney Mara
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 21, 2018 11:56 PM |
Several years ago I was a realtor in NYC (Village, Soho, Tribeca) and I rented Joaquin a furnished apartment. He was very nice and it was an easy deal, hardly any negotiating. I am gay and I got the impression he was straight but it was hard to know for sure as he is not your typical straight "bro". Anyway, when the deal was done and I met him at the place to give him the keys he mentioned that it was his birthday and he had no one to celebrate with. He asked if I would have something to eat with him, but I truly had other plans and declined. I just thought it to be weird that a famous actor had no one to celebrate his birthday with. Something profoundly sad about the guy so the Twisted Joker will be a good role for him.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 21, 2018 11:58 PM |
He was raised in an abusive sex cult, R16, so I could see him being a rather sad guy.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 22, 2018 12:01 AM |
What on earth did you have to do that was more important than hanging out with Joaquin Phoenix, R16?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 22, 2018 12:10 AM |
Anybody else want to cunt punt R16 ?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 22, 2018 12:16 AM |
I think this movie looks dumb as fuck but goddamn r16! Whatever you had could wait!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 22, 2018 12:19 AM |
The yellow teeth are a nice touch. I suppose those are his natural teeth.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 22, 2018 2:08 AM |
What was so special that happened to you on October 28, R16? I bet you can't even remember what you did that evening.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 22, 2018 2:11 AM |
R16 here. It was dinner with a friend. I just didn't feel comfortable to have a birthday dinner with Joaquin that day. He seemed so very awkward and unable to have a normal conversation. I didn't want to be the one doing all the talking and thought it best to just tell him no.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 22, 2018 2:47 AM |
For the love of God....can someone in Hollywood come up with a fucking original idea! Enough of the comic book stuff...
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 22, 2018 3:29 AM |
Not feeling it
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 22, 2018 3:30 AM |
In fifty years' time all of these stupid comic book movies will be forgotten. I can't imagine they will age well.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 23, 2018 3:22 AM |
Hollywood will keep selling you the same story over and over and over again if you let them.
Stop buying tickets to these garbage movies!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 23, 2018 3:25 AM |
Heath Ledger destroyed the Joker and now you have all of these actors who channel that insipid performance. Ledger channeled Brandon Lee not anything DC related. Now we have to suffer the aftermath with actors channeling a mix of the Crow and meth.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 23, 2018 3:30 AM |
The suit looks surprisingly colorful and almost sophisticated. Back to the old Jack Nicholson days? I guess they originally wanted Johnny Depp, but he's having problems right so so Joquin Phoenix was the next best thing.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 23, 2018 3:30 AM |

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who felt his performance was completely wrong from the Joker. DL once again restores my faith that there are people out there who aren't brain-dead sheep!
The Joker was never written in the comics the way Ledger played him. All any actor has to do is watch Mark Hamill's legendary voice-over performance in the cartoon series from the 90s to know how to approach the Joker. But no, these self-important "Method" actors must approach the role as if they're playing Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 23, 2018 3:36 AM |
*was completely wrong FOR the Joker
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 23, 2018 3:44 AM |
That birthday thing is weird. He has family in NYC so you would think he could celebrate with them.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 23, 2018 3:45 AM |
r31 has no idea what "Method Acting" is.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 23, 2018 3:50 AM |
He looks like a 1970s mime. Is this the look they were trying to go for?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 23, 2018 3:52 AM |
Oh shut it, R34. The so-called preparations that pretentious assholes like Jared Leto took to play the Joker, to the point where he alienated many in the cast with his Dustin Hoffman/Daniel Day Lewis, I'm-so-lost-in-character bullshit, he is the quintessential pain in the ass Method actor.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 23, 2018 3:56 AM |
r36, 1) you're a creep 2) you're ignorant 3) you're proud of being ignorant -- and these are the best things about you!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 23, 2018 3:58 AM |
The Joker doesn’t have long hair.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 23, 2018 3:59 AM |
The hair is wrong, the make up is wrong—everything about the Joker BECAUSE of Ledger is now wrong. Let’s get back to the DC Joker.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 23, 2018 4:01 AM |
Oh, R37, I'm not ignorant, I'm just calling out the series of "Method Actors," starting with Ledger, who completely ruined the character of the Joker with their bullshit antics.
I've actually read Konstantin Stanislavski, by the way. (I recommend reading Jean Benedetti's translation of "An Actor's Work" and "An Actor's Work on a Role.")
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 23, 2018 4:05 AM |
[quote]Heath Ledger destroyed the Joker and now you have all of these actors who channel that insipid performance.
It's not Heath Ledger's fault. It's the fault of these overgrown 30 and 40-something year old comic book fans who are so self-conscious about still loving comic books in their advanced age that their adaptations have to be "dark and gritty" to prove to the world and themselves that they're not immature.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 23, 2018 4:08 AM |
Listen, a little mime can take you a long way.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 23, 2018 4:11 AM |
[quote]For the love of God....can someone in Hollywood come up with a fucking original idea! Enough of the comic book stuff...
Most of the people working in Hollywood today were the kids who didn't read books and gorged all day on junk (comic books, anime, Saturday morning cartoons). Hence the excessive comic book, Transformers and anime-inspired movies. It's all they really know.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 23, 2018 4:12 AM |
For me, comic book movies are my "soaps." I enjoy following the insipid and melodramatic antics of the same characters from movie to movie, with the added bonus of special effects. Like trashy novels and hair metal bands, they are a "guilty" pleasure that I can't intellectually justify, but I enjoy their ridiculousness.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 23, 2018 4:54 AM |
Op's photo of Joaquin looks like the Dude working at a children's birthday party. Will he make balloon animals to throw at Batman?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 23, 2018 4:56 AM |
No r45, he will be awkward and hard to talk to. So Batman is gonna ditch the scene and have dinner with robin instead
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 23, 2018 8:21 AM |
It’s Ledger’s fault.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 23, 2018 11:43 AM |
Leto's Joker was pathetic, but that's not solely his fault. Why re-cast, especially with Joaquin Phoenix?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 23, 2018 12:26 PM |
Who’s fault is it? It’s the actor’s with their ridiculous, affected BS. The Joker isn’t Strasberg—the character has already been laud out—for decades and decades. Adding your interpretation to it does not work.
Thank you.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 23, 2018 1:51 PM |
Are there no other villains they want to use??!!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 23, 2018 3:47 PM |
Can someone please explain r1’s joke to me? I have seen it posted many times in various threads but never got it. TIA!
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 23, 2018 4:28 PM |
I preferred Jack Nicholson's interpretation. The original tv series was high camp with Cesar Romero giving the Joker is characteristic laugh making him one of the most recognizable villains. Nicholson's performance was over the top but kept it closer to the original.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 23, 2018 4:40 PM |
[quote]Who’s fault is it? It’s the actor’s with their ridiculous, affected BS.
It's not. It's the fault of the directors. Ever since the late 90s, there's been a whole slew of pretentious assholes who are trying to establish themselves as auteurs by shooting their stupid comic book films with the seriousness of a 2001: A Space Odyssey or Citizen Kane. So, they instruct their actors to act as if they're doing Death of a Salesman, and keep casting legends and actors with a Shakespearean background to be in them (Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Jeremy Irons, etc.).
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 23, 2018 5:12 PM |
R51 you know the “joke”.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 23, 2018 5:32 PM |
While I despise the Gotham TV series overall, the portrayals of the “Jokers” are way better than the recent film translations.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 23, 2018 5:43 PM |
It's more rodeo clown for me. Joaquin will be fine, as much as I hate the makeup.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 23, 2018 5:52 PM |
Enough ^.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 23, 2018 5:53 PM |
R56.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 23, 2018 5:53 PM |
ok but why did they jack Shaggy2Dope's makeup job?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 23, 2018 6:24 PM |
He looks like an ICP fan.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 23, 2018 6:31 PM |
ICP fans had names, I can’t remember what they were.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 23, 2018 6:32 PM |
Juggalos.

I hope the Jugglarmy skewer this new Joker at The Gathering 2019.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 23, 2018 11:15 PM |
The makeup looks very ICP.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 23, 2018 11:34 PM |
I wonder if the Joker will have rap battles with Eminem?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | September 23, 2018 11:49 PM |
I really like this. The light trick with the changing faces reminds me of old side shows like The Gorilla Girl. I haven't watched any of this franchise's entries since Ledger, so I doubt this one will get me in the theater seat either. Why not Joaquin after all? He's pretty damn good at acting, and he's been doing it since the larval stage. Do I anticipate his interpretation much more than younger audiences would because I recall his other performances over the years? I think the casting will turn out to be a success, but so much depends on the surrounding film. If they make it for a bunch of old shits who can't be bothered to sit in theaters, that would be stupid.

I have always said the wrong Phoenix died at the Viper Club that night.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | September 23, 2018 11:59 PM |
I agree, r69.
It should have been Phoenix, Arizona.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 24, 2018 4:23 AM |
My first thought was juggalo and it seems others agree. I dunno.
And yes, Gotham has been relatively good about Joker without actually having Joker.
I liked Heath Ledger.
I still have the soft spot for Animated Series Joker (Hamill) and I guess Arkham Joker (Hamill also).
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 24, 2018 4:42 AM |
The best Joker is Curtis Armstrong from the old Onstar commercials...
by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 24, 2018 5:17 AM |
Come at me but I've always felt The Joker an overrated Rogue in the Gallery, no matter who plays him. The most important and most heinous crime of his was murdering young Jason Todd, and this killing made The Joker perhaps more crucial and salient to The Bat (and to Nightwing) than he otherwise might have been.
R71 Hamill has been among the best cast choices for the role to date. His performance as The Joker in UNDER THE RED HOOD is bone-chilling.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 24, 2018 10:04 AM |
Interesting also that the role of The Joker is constantly recast. Is that because it's so difficult to play him, or because there hasn't yet been anyone good enough to make the role his own?
By contrast there's only been one Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow put to major motion picture so far, and I posit that's because Cillian Murphy was so superb in the part.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 24, 2018 10:20 AM |
Wait, who's Batman now? Is it Tony Danza? .
Anyway, our next caller is from Sheboygan. You know, I think I was once married to someone from Sheboygan. She was always serving me Chalk Full of Nuts coffee which didn't really taste like chalk or coffee. Which reminds me of Phillips Milk of Magnesia. Remember, when you need milk from a magnesia, buy Phillips. Is it time for the commercial? Oh, right...Sheboygan, you're on the line. Speaking of lines, tomorrow's guest will be Don Johnston who is famous for Miami Law and cocaine. He was once married to Melanie Hedren whose mother was some kind of bird lady in a circus. Speaking of the circus, the Pickle Family Circus is performing in Sheboygan tomorrow night. Thank you Sheboygan for letting us know. And we'll be right back after this commercial for Prudential. Remember, if you need a new set of teeth, buy Prudential.
