Unless we have posters working in one of three professions, no one is going to get mine at R12. They're optical axis-alignment pliers. The astigmatism correction in a pair of eyeglasses runs along an axis which has to be positioned correctly in front of the pupil, and the pliers are used to to make tiny adjustments to the position of the lenses once they're in the frame.

R144, correct. They are steam powered tractors. Note the guy with the shovel of coal in the first picture. They fell out of use in the early to mid 20th century but were much more powerful and versatile than modern tractors and are still prized and maintained. And you're right about the big belts: they are being used to drive threshing machines.
I grew up in rural North Carolina in the 1950s and I was fascinated and enthralled by these land riding locomotives.
