In the Gloaming (starring Glenn Close; dir by Christopher Reeve)

You bitches ever watch this?

I used to watch it a lot as a teen. Really beautiful little pic.

It's about her son dying of AIDS, btw.

by Anonymousreply 1September 15, 2018 6:04 AM

The part where Close asks her son something about if he really loved his companion and he says yes. And she says "I'm glad you had that in your life" has always stayed with me. Beautiful film.

R2 omg, yes! It's a short film, too. It clocks at around an hour. The music is beautiful and the performances are all wonderful.

It's a tender film.

by Anonymousreply 3September 15, 2018 6:08 AM

I actually just started watching it again. That opening music always draws me in.

by Anonymousreply 4September 15, 2018 6:15 AM

Thanks for posting I’ve never seen it

by Anonymousreply 5September 15, 2018 6:30 AM

Let us know what you think, R5.

It puts me in this tranquil, meditative state. I really love it.

by Anonymousreply 6September 15, 2018 6:42 AM

It got 101% on The Treacle Meter. And you watch a AIDS Dying movie over and over and think its beautiful? DAFUQ is wrong with you people.

by Anonymousreply 7September 15, 2018 6:43 AM

Calm down, R7. Have you watched it? It's very subtle and tranquil. Watch it.

by Anonymousreply 8September 15, 2018 6:46 AM

I'm at the "Did you love? Were you loved in return?" scene.

:***(

by Anonymousreply 9September 15, 2018 6:46 AM

When Glenn starts singing O Danny Boy. Phew.

by Anonymousreply 10September 15, 2018 6:48 AM

I found it too small, twee and unfocused. Not even there there, for me.

by Anonymousreply 11September 15, 2018 6:51 AM

It's always sounded too low key and ponderously "prestigious" for me.

No desire to see it.

by Anonymousreply 12September 15, 2018 6:58 AM

r12 Watch it. It's very good.

by Anonymousreply 13September 17, 2018 3:15 PM

A film of raw, subtle power.

by Anonymousreply 14November 11, 2018 2:28 PM

Breathe and cry with Glenn.

by Anonymousreply 15November 11, 2018 2:38 PM

Robert Sean Leonard was even more dreamy than usual.

I remember In the Gloaming as being just OK.

When it comes to AIDS movies, I prefer Longtime Companion, An Early Frost or even Andre's Mother.

Or better yet Parting Glances, since the PWA's story is interwoven in the overall narrative of the film.

Men sure wore their clothes baggy back then. I had that shaggy hairdo on RSL too. I’ve never seen anything else branded a “HBO NYC” production.

R18 og logo from back in the day.

My favorite. The last scene...OMFG. "Fuzzy...Willy...you asshole."

by Anonymousreply 20November 11, 2018 7:21 PM

I can't believe this isn't on DVD.

It's my favorite performance by G.

by Anonymousreply 21November 11, 2018 8:15 PM

R21 It is! Have it.Somewhere.

R24 Thank you, my darling!

by Anonymousreply 26November 11, 2018 8:32 PM

Be sure the DVD you buy is compatible with where you live.

by Anonymousreply 27November 11, 2018 8:35 PM

R27 You can reprogramme most region specific DVD players. Google how to do it. 3 or 4 basic steps with the remote.

by Anonymousreply 28November 11, 2018 8:37 PM

Will do xo
