It's only weird in that Christine is ugly and Cynthia is pretty. And really, that's not weird at all. I could walk down a busy street on any given day and find several couples in which one partner is average or better and the other is borderline hideous. Some people just don't care that much about looks in a partner, or they have peculiar taste. Maybe it seems weirder than usual with CN because she's a celebrity—along with the fact that she and her unattractive wife are in the public eye all the time, there's the sense that she could have done so much better, given all the really attractive women and men she must know. But her ex-husband is also fug, so obviously that's just not an issue for her.

The NY Times did a piece on Christine Marinoni. She sounds cool.

According to the NY Times article from a couple of weeks back Rojo Caliente (love the moniker) chose to be a stay at home wife once she and Cynthia moved in together; took care of the house and Cynthia's kids. During this time Rojo Caliente struggled to get pregnant and eventually they had a kid.

I don't know. I can see Cynthia appreciating the comfort and stability that comes from having a supportive spouse. Not just a homemaker, but someone who is smart and has interests in the world outside of the family.

Nixon has about as much taste in partners as she does in apartments.

This. And it's much more apparent when both people are women (or men).

Also, most lesbian couples I know have the "urge to merge" thing happening: they look alike physically, and then once they've been together, their clothing tastes, etc, also start to mirror each other. I don't know many couples where each woman has a very different look from the other. (Actually, I do know one--and they are the source of gossip and eyebrow-raising among their social group.)

It's not that "weird." The only thing that makes it remarkable is the difference in appearance with Cynthia being much more attractive than Christine, at least I think most people would see it that way. But, since couples with a pronounced attractiveness differential is hardly new or rare, it's not really in any way weird.
