Olivia Newton-John has confirmed that she’s battling cancer for the third time, after initially denying reports she canceled appearances because of her health.
The “Grease” actress is now fighting cancer in her back, stemming from a tumor at the base of her spine, she confirmed on Australia’s “Sunday Night.”
“No, I don’t go there. I’d be lying if I said I never go there,” Newton-John, 69, said. “There are moments. I’m human, so if I allow myself to go there, I could easily create that big fear. But my husband’s always there – he’s always there to support me, and I believe I will win over it, and that’s my goal.”
Newton-John is currently treating her cancer with a combination of natural treatments.
She’s cut sugar out of her diet entirely and uses medical cannabis tinctures from plants that her husband, John Easterling, legally grows on their California property, to help with pain and sleep, and hopes Australia will legalize medical marijuana for similar reasons.
The Aussie singer was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992.
After beating the disease, she became an advocate for breast cancer research and treatment, opening the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
In 2013, Newton-John was diagnosed with cancer in her shoulder after a car accident, which she kept a secret.
“The first time I talked about it, and the second time I thought, ‘I don’t really need to share this … It’s my life. I decided to just keep it to myself,” she told “Sunday Night.”
She revealed in May 2017 that she was battling breast cancer that had metastasized to her sacrum.
“I’m one of millions in this fight … in this journey,” she said. “I see it as part of my … mission. I’m still treating it and I’m treating it naturally,” she said on Sunday. “And I’m doing really well.”
She’s turned to her own song, “Don’t Stop Believin’,” to help her through it.
“The chorus goes, ‘On those days that nobody wants to know you and all your dreams keep falling on stony ground, don’t stop believing you’ll get by,'” she said. “Always when I sing it, I get a good, happy feeling and I get that positivity and keep on believing.”
Despite her multiple bouts with cancer, Newton-John says she focuses on other things as a means of staying strong.
“I’m a very privileged person, and I’m very aware of that,” she said on “Sunday Night.” “I have a wonderful husband, I have all the animals I adore, I have an incredible career. I have nothing really to complain about.”
A rep for Newton-John did not immediately return a request for comment.
