It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

I hear the 13th season is starting up. THIRTEEN! WTF!!!!!! The only shows that last that long are news/talk shows like 60 minutes and soaps. And the soaps are dying one by one.

by Anonymousreply 134October 6, 2019 11:43 PM

Love that show!

by Anonymousreply 1September 9, 2018 1:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 2September 9, 2018 1:21 AM

Oh dear OP missed the premiere.

by Anonymousreply 3September 9, 2018 1:26 AM

Mac's insane jacked body!

by Anonymousreply 4September 9, 2018 1:36 AM

Just watching the first episode. Holy shit, I didn’t think that jacked Mac using the Dennis sex doll would be so sexy. I want to ship steroid Mac and Doll Dennis.

by Anonymousreply 5September 10, 2018 9:02 AM

I read once that because the show doesn't follow traditional tropes and storylines (ie, love triangles, "will they or won't they," etc.) it isn't beholden to convention and could conceivably run forever.

by Anonymousreply 6September 10, 2018 9:30 AM

The Simpsons and South Park have run longer. And many shows like Bones have produced more episodes than IASIP in fewer seasons.

by Anonymousreply 7September 10, 2018 9:37 AM

Their seasons are now only 7 or 8 episodes--I think.

by Anonymousreply 8September 10, 2018 10:00 AM

Mac doesn't need a sex doll. He would be fighting men off with a stick. I wonder if they are going to cop out with his gay storyline. Mac's body did look great but I saw some minor aging in his face. Sometimes when men get 40 and workout too much and have 0 body fat it ages you...

by Anonymousreply 9September 10, 2018 10:29 AM

R10 There are 10 per season now

by Anonymousreply 10September 10, 2018 10:56 AM

What gets called a "season" isn't what it used to be. Sitcoms used to have 26, then later, 22 episodes per season. In the age of Reality shows, runs of 10-13 episodes are now called "seasons." Shows like SURVIVOR, AMERICAN IDOL, and AMAZING RACE don't even run for a full year...they should up once a year for a limited run. That's why so many of these shows have been on for so long.

by Anonymousreply 11September 10, 2018 5:53 PM

Anyone watching? “Times Up for The Gang” and “The Gang Gets New Wheels” reminded me of classic Its Always Sunny. Loved it.

by Anonymousreply 12October 5, 2018 6:57 PM

It's very amusing. The sexual harassment episode is quite timely.

But yeah, Mac should be going to the gay district a lot, or be getting besieged by Grindr messages. He should be kicking a hot stud out of his bed every morning.

by Anonymousreply 13October 5, 2018 7:14 PM

Mac’s personality would be very off putting to potential suitors. The show has repeatedly shown that none of these people are capable of having relationships outside of the group because they are terrible people. That’s why Mac’s always lusting over Dennis.

by Anonymousreply 14October 5, 2018 7:21 PM

When Mac and Charlie beat up those kids in “New Wheels”, I lost it. So over the top, so Sunny. They aren’t totally burying Mac being gay but I won’t be happy until they do an episode where he has some really embarrassing anal.

by Anonymousreply 15October 6, 2018 3:07 AM

I still wish Fox wouldn't have cancelled 'The Mick'.

Assholes.

by Anonymousreply 16October 6, 2018 3:10 AM

R16 I liked The Mick too! I was hoping someone else would pick it up.

I was rewatching the episode where Dee and the rest of the Sunny ladies do their own Boggs drinking completion on the plane... I think I liked it more than the one they did a few seasons ago. So glad they brought Artemis back and I love whenever Mac’s mom and Charlie’s mom are together.

by Anonymousreply 17October 6, 2018 3:24 AM

The last episode was great too. I'm glad they are more hits than misses this season. Though it doesn't entirely feel like it used to, I'm enjoying this different feel regardless.

by Anonymousreply 18October 13, 2018 9:33 AM

I thought the last episode was kinda boring

by Anonymousreply 19October 13, 2018 10:04 AM

I liked it. Though I like episodes contained in the bar. I felt the last 30 secs were a let down. But I overall liked it.

by Anonymousreply 20October 13, 2018 10:24 AM

Mac needs to be shirtless more often.

And naked. Naked is good.

by Anonymousreply 21October 17, 2018 6:31 PM

The number of seasons for some shows is a mystery to me. For example Chopped has been on the air since 2007. Yet according to imdb.com they are in their fortieth season.

I'm a fan of IASIP. They are all horrible people. The supporting characters are great. I love Charlie's mother. The degeneration of Rickety Cricket has been hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 22October 17, 2018 6:59 PM

I really liked last week’s episode, and like the episode before it, it reminded me of the earlier Sunny episodes. The randomness of it being a Jimmy Buffett concert was hilarious. I’m glad Glenn decided to stick around... I think it’d be hard to do this show with anyone missing.

R22 I LOVE Mac and Charlie’s moms. Every episode they are in is gold.

by Anonymousreply 23October 17, 2018 7:10 PM

Exactly r14. It doesnt matter how jacked Mac is, his craziness would end up turning off anyone but the most desperate. These people see all nutcases who can barely interact with regular people, that's the whole concept of the show.

by Anonymousreply 24October 17, 2018 7:14 PM

Yes, but there should be crazy moments of him getting caught having sex before being an asshole. There are plenty of other asshole hot gay guys in Philly.

by Anonymousreply 25October 17, 2018 7:56 PM

I prefer to watch when it streams. Mac needs some gay episodes.

by Anonymousreply 26October 17, 2018 8:46 PM

The characters have different levels of assholeness though. Charlie, for example, isn’t that much of an asshole. He’s not very bright, but he’s not mean spirited and out to get anyone. I think the worst thing he’s ever done is Cruel Intentions that one girl in order to get the Waitress jealous.

Frank, Dee, and Dennis are probably the worst about of the 5 because they are the smartest out of the 5. Mac is a good medium between Dennis and Charlie... smart enough to keep up with Dennis but dumb enough to get down to Charlie’s level sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 27October 17, 2018 9:01 PM

I still want sexual jokey scenes involving Mac being kicked out of a trick's apartment naked after being an idiot.

NAKED. i demand it!

by Anonymousreply 28October 19, 2018 10:13 PM

WHERE CAN I FIND FULL PENIS SHOTS OF MAC ????

by Anonymousreply 29October 19, 2018 10:16 PM

Aren't there suggestions that Dennis is basically a serial rapist or killer? Or at least thinks like one.

My favorite ep is when Dee and Dennis get hooked on crack. “One crack, please.”

by Anonymousreply 30October 19, 2018 10:25 PM

Yes, Dennis is a sociopath.

Yes, the crack episode is Emmy-worthy.

Didn’t care for the Charlie Super Bowl episode, but loved last nights episode with the gang and their crazy crew of acquaintances. It was great seeing Rex and Ben The Soldier, who we haven’t seen in a while. The last few minutes were very sweet.

by Anonymousreply 37November 2, 2018 2:48 AM

Next week is the gay pride parade episode. The only episode written by the guys this season.

by Anonymousreply 38November 2, 2018 3:09 AM

Not impressed with these new writers.

by Anonymousreply 39November 2, 2018 10:44 AM

You do really feel they have been less involved in the writing of the most recent seasons.

by Anonymousreply 40November 2, 2018 10:57 AM

Mac wants to pump his loads into Dennis's mouth.

by Anonymousreply 41November 2, 2018 11:52 AM

I think he wants Dennis to pop it into his.

by Anonymousreply 42November 2, 2018 12:38 PM

I'm obsessed with this show! I think one of the key reasons it's so appealing is the main four cast members are each very sexy in their own way (even Dee). I want to buy the entire DVD set! Some favorite moments that come to mind:

- the entire water park episode

- When the gang revealed they found Mac's exercise bike and his trying to explain it

- When they performed their dance number to George Michael's "Freedom" and the reveal of the reality at the very end

- when Dennis and Charlie were huffing fumes in the back office to techno music

- when they went on a road trip with a U-Haul trailer and Dennis and Charlie tried to barbeque in it with the door open, while in motion

- when the gang broke Dee and then tricked her into thinking she was successful at stand-up and flying to Hollywood to be on TV

- when the inspector showed up to the bar last-minute and Charlie was running around making all that random stuff happen into some sort of order

I'm really looking forward to the Mac gay pride episode next week, of course.

by Anonymousreply 43November 2, 2018 1:05 PM

I’m so jealous that I never got to see The Nightman Cometh live stage show

by Anonymousreply 44November 2, 2018 4:14 PM

I've been a fan of this show since day one and was really looking forward to the new season. All I can say is, what happened? It's neither funny nor clever any more. I've tried to give it a chance but now, three or four episodes into the new season, I'm ready to stop DVR'ing it.

by Anonymousreply 45November 2, 2018 10:51 PM

The water park episode is one of the best episodes of the whole series.

I want Mac and Dennis as the endgame couple!

by Anonymousreply 46November 2, 2018 10:59 PM

R46, if Mac played up to Dennis's ego and let Dennis be the top it might happen.

by Anonymousreply 47November 2, 2018 11:01 PM

R47 Mac is canonically a bottom, actually. It’s revealed when Dennis was secretly recording Mac hooking up with the hot rich guy Dee was in love with

I haven't read through this thread in case there are spoilers and I haven't seen this season: Worth watching?

by Anonymousreply 49November 2, 2018 11:32 PM

R49 I’d say yes. So far I prefer it to last seasons. It doesn’t have the same magic as it’s earlier seasons (I think it’s become a little self aware) but it’s still much better than most comedies on television at the moment

by Anonymousreply 50November 2, 2018 11:35 PM

Thanks, R50. I figured I'd binge watch on a long flight.

by Anonymousreply 51November 2, 2018 11:48 PM

Yeah, Mac is totally a bottom. He built a stationary bike/fuck machine that still shows up once and awhile.

by Anonymousreply 52November 3, 2018 12:10 AM

Incels in IT get it

by Anonymousreply 53November 3, 2018 1:24 AM

[quote]All I can say is, what happened?

Turnover in the writer's room. When the show was at its peak half the episodes were written by the show's creators, the guys who play Mac, Dennis and Charlie. But they have other irons in the fire now. They also had a stable of other writers who really got the character dynamics and wrote some great stuff, but most of those people did not write for this season.

I also suspect that the writing process for this season was rushed, and/or the central trio just isn't supervising/editing the writers, because some of the people who wrote mediocre episodes this season have written much better stuff. The dude who wrote the super bowl episode also wrote "Making Dennis Reynolds a Murderer" last season.

I'm glad the show is still on, but this season has been weak tea IMHO.

On a shallow note, Rob McElhenney is aging really well. Kaitlin is a lucky bitch.

by Anonymousreply 54November 3, 2018 11:48 AM

Tonight’s episode, “Mac Finds His Pride” was not at all what I was expecting. The dance scene at the end was a big risk and not at all in the general tenor of the series. It was emotionally and beautifully done and if this show ever wins an award, it will be for this episode. Having Mac shirtless, soaking wet, flexing and stretching his muscles will never elicit an complaint from me either.

This was the show in a row in which Dennis hasn’t made an appearance, I guess he was busy with his NBC show when these were being shot.

by Anonymousreply 55November 8, 2018 3:29 AM

*third show in a row

by Anonymousreply 56November 8, 2018 3:30 AM

I laughed and I cried! It was so unexpected.

by Anonymousreply 57November 8, 2018 3:33 AM

Not to sound like a Mary, but this episode got to me. Very well done. If Danny or Rob don’t get an Emmy nod for this episode, I’ll be be pissed. Such a departure for this show. Excited to see how they move forward next season.

by Anonymousreply 58November 8, 2018 3:45 AM

Here’s the dance. I agree R58, if this show every gets Emmy notice it’ll be for this episode.

by Anonymousreply 59November 8, 2018 3:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 60November 8, 2018 3:55 AM

Im watching now. This is a well made episode.

by Anonymousreply 61November 8, 2018 4:07 AM

That dance was beautiful. I started off laughing and then was sobbing at the end.

by Anonymousreply 62November 8, 2018 4:13 AM

Wow.

by Anonymousreply 63November 8, 2018 4:20 AM

That was...unexpected.

That dance was one of the most unusual things I’ve ever seen in a comedy.

by Anonymousreply 64November 8, 2018 4:42 AM

This whole episode was inspired by the overwhelming positive reaction to Mac coming out last season by gay fans. In this article Rob McElhenney says the whole reason he got ripped was for this scene, seven months of working out and three months of dance practice. I hope that doesn’t mean he’s not going to maintain his new body because that would be a real shame. He’s so sexy now.

by Anonymousreply 65November 8, 2018 5:10 AM

I like that it was just Mac and Frank this episode, with little pop ins from Charlie, Dee and Cricket.

In Season 2, when the show was much saner and hadn’t really committed to what show it wanted to be, Frank told Charlie and Mac that they needed a father figure, and he was going to step up and be that for them. The Gang really is each other’s family.

by Anonymousreply 66November 8, 2018 5:17 AM

Also, loved that Mac had a bunch of peaches laying around the apartment, as a callback to CMBYN

by Anonymousreply 67November 8, 2018 6:02 AM

Bravo!

by Anonymousreply 71November 8, 2018 5:10 PM

I'm happy for Mac

by Anonymousreply 72November 8, 2018 5:12 PM

If he's gay, why isn't he dancing with a man?

by Anonymousreply 73November 8, 2018 5:14 PM

Because he's dancing with God. Who is a woman

by Anonymousreply 74November 8, 2018 5:15 PM

I read that they are trying to get a 15th season. I hope they get it!

by Anonymousreply 75November 8, 2018 5:49 PM

I watched the final episode of season 13 this morning, and it’s really put me in a different place.

I’ve been a fan of this show from the beginning, and the last 6 minutes were heart stunning.

by Anonymousreply 76November 8, 2018 7:33 PM

R76

I think the entire Internet fell in love with it.

It was obviously a very heartfelt and incredibly dedicated performance by Rob McH.

Definitely one of the most unusual things that a sitcom has ever done that I can recall offhand, especially one as irreverent as IASIP.

no surprise

by Anonymousreply 82November 9, 2018 5:34 PM

Which is EXACTLY what he was choreographed to do r81.

by Anonymousreply 88November 9, 2018 8:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 91November 10, 2018 5:30 AM

they could have gone off the deep end

by Anonymousreply 92November 10, 2018 11:09 AM

how many of you guys watch this show? I've watched the season 14 premiere but not the second episode. It was pretty good but nothing special. Rob McElhenney (who plays Mac) is looking finer than ever this season

by Anonymousreply 93October 3, 2019 8:00 PM

I wish they would give Rob a good brave gay episode besides the dance one.

by Anonymousreply 94October 3, 2019 8:22 PM

R93, he is, you see why he’s auditioned for the big Hollywood roles that Chris Pratt has had (and not gotten).

I love this show, even though it is clearly taking a new turn.

by Anonymousreply 95October 3, 2019 8:25 PM

R95 I think you're thinking of Glenn Howerton (Dennis). He is definitely NOT finer than ever this season though

by Anonymousreply 96October 3, 2019 8:46 PM

Glenn was actually the 2nd choice for Peter Quill in Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy. That would have been a very different character I think and he would have probably left IASIP

by Anonymousreply 97October 3, 2019 8:51 PM

Love IASIP

I’m rewatching all the previous episodes on Hulu. Man...these guys were young when they started out. Mac is much more attractive as a 40 something, than he was in his mid 20s. The hilarious nihilistic corrosiveness remains undimmed.

by Anonymousreply 98October 3, 2019 8:53 PM

Rob aged really well

by Anonymousreply 99October 3, 2019 8:54 PM

I love this show. I held off on watching it for years, because it looked like your typical show for bro types, but I finally gave it a chance on Hulu last year and binged the entire thing in a month. I think it's the funniest sitcom in recent memory. Maybe since pre-Netflix Arrested Development at least.

by Anonymousreply 100October 3, 2019 9:48 PM

Dark and wicked

by Anonymousreply 101October 3, 2019 9:50 PM

I enjoy it. Which is more than I can say for most television.

by Anonymousreply 102October 3, 2019 10:31 PM

I find the main guys very attractive in their own way. I'd love to pick Charlie up and fuck his brains out. I think he's the cutest.

by Anonymousreply 103October 3, 2019 10:34 PM

He’s got an animal energy that is super hot.

In interviews he comes cross as the smartest kid in school, his parents are both published authors and music teachers.

by Anonymousreply 104October 4, 2019 1:24 AM

R103 they used to all be hot, Glenn has kinda fallen off (plus I think they purposefully uglify him a bit for the show). Charlie and Mac are still hot though (and Dee)

Dear GODDD, R36. That episode is so funny. I still think of that stare when I'm at a restaurant.

by Anonymousreply 108October 4, 2019 10:08 AM

Only seen a couple of episodes but i've watched all of the gag reels. I don't know how they get anything done while filming.

by Anonymousreply 109October 4, 2019 12:22 PM

All of the ISAIP guys seem really cute to me. Rob is the only one that sticks out as “hot”, but honestly they’re all super adorable. I watch the gag reels just to see them smile and laugh, Rob really has a beautiful smile and an adorable laugh.

by Anonymousreply 110October 4, 2019 12:30 PM

R107 It’s amazing from the get-go, so if you want a good view of exactly what the show is gonna be like, watch the pilot (the gang gets racist) first. It’s a perfect way to gauge what you’re getting into. Seasons 5-8 are the best in my opinion, but season 3 is also pretty great.

by Anonymousreply 111October 4, 2019 12:32 PM

We all know Mac is gay, but is Dennis gay too (or bi)? Lots of fangirls on Tumblr seem to think he is. I question if it's wishful thinking or not though.

by Anonymousreply 112October 4, 2019 3:33 PM

R112 I don’t think of Dennis as having a sexuality. He more or less just fucks people to lord power over them, or to get their attention. He keeps sex tapes of the women he bangs, but was ready and willing at the drop of a hat to start fucking little asian guys when he stole that guy’s identity. He’s a sociopath who is sexually attracted to his ability to intimidate and overpower others.

by Anonymousreply 113October 4, 2019 4:11 PM

R112 well the creators like to talk about how all there characters are at least partly gay (idk their exact words) so maybe. at the very least I would bet money on Mac and Dennis fucking at some point

by Anonymousreply 114October 4, 2019 7:45 PM

Never thought I would like it - but love it. And highlights the good part about my city - you can live a normal life without glamour or wealth or pretension. A good neighborhood bar, a random crew of friends and absence of pressure to be somebody.

by Anonymousreply 115October 4, 2019 8:11 PM

Philly is always sunny. . .

by Anonymousreply 116October 5, 2019 3:01 AM

R115 I’m from Philly too and I have no idea how you got that from It’s Always Sunny. The comedy comes from the fact that the gang isn’t normal and are always trying to be people they aren’t, they’re all fucked up sociopaths who are in denial about their own stations in life (see Dee and Dennis thinking they’re upper class, Charlie being convinced there’s nothing wrong with the way he lives, Mac thinking he’s a super tough badass, Dee thinking she’s an amazing actress). The thing that makes the show so funny is that they AREN’T normal, they’re mentally-damaged white trash.

by Anonymousreply 117October 5, 2019 3:33 AM

They are sociopaths

That said, glen and Charlie said they placed the show in philly originally because they needed a place where people would be easily seen drinking in the daytime .

by Anonymousreply 118October 5, 2019 12:47 PM

Also, McElhenney is from Philly. Write what you know!

Originally the show was more based on their real selves and was about three struggling actors in L.A. Making it about childhood friends from Philly gave the show a more distinct character IMHO.

by Anonymousreply 119October 5, 2019 1:36 PM

R119 I’m glad they didn’t make it about themselves. Charlie, Dee, Mac, and Dennis are all amazing characters on their own and any of them could easily carry their own spinoff.

by Anonymousreply 120October 5, 2019 5:05 PM

I’ll never understand why these guys can’t find good work outside of It’s Always Sunny. Every member of the main cast is gorgeous, clearly smart, comedically talented, etc. Yet it seems like all their breakaway projects flop. Why?

by Anonymousreply 121October 5, 2019 5:59 PM

Charlie Day has done okay and is a favorite of Guillermo del Toro, who has actually camoed on the show. I don’t think Rob McElhenny fancies himself an actor like the rest of them, I think he’s more of a creative type. The Mick was so fucking good and shouldn’t have been cancelled

by Anonymousreply 122October 5, 2019 6:23 PM

R122 Oh wow. I knew Day was in Pacific Rim, but I didn’t know Del Toro favored him. Hopefully that will open some doors for him and his friends in the future.

by Anonymousreply 123October 5, 2019 6:29 PM

olsen has a new show

by Anonymousreply 124October 5, 2019 7:40 PM

I find all of them wonderful and attractive, too, and I hope that, when the show ends, they can all keep working, because they're some of the brightest and smartest comedy writing and acting since the Norman Lear days. Making topical things funny and not offending everyone these days is truly an art.

by Anonymousreply 125October 6, 2019 1:38 AM

R125 They make topical things funny, but there’s no way they aren’t offending people, especially considering how much they’ve done blackface and made rape jokes.

by Anonymousreply 126October 6, 2019 1:41 AM

They must have offended some people in the past, but it is weird that there don't seem to be many articles or Twitter freak outs about it like there are for Friends or that Netflix show about the fat girl who starts killing people once she gets thin or whatever.

Maybe Sunny is just more of a cult, niche show.

R127 It’s definitely more of a niche show, and I think that’s lended to its success. Because not a lot of people pay attention to it they’re able to get away with funnier, more inappropriate jokes than most of what’s on TV right now. That’s one of the reasons I’m glad they aren’t nominated for Emmys.

Come to think of it, I've never heard of anyone being offended by this show. I guess it really is under the radar. The episode in which they discuss various swears and slurs was kinda brilliant btw.

I think if truly despicable characters say and do despicable things and get bitten in the ass for it, then people aren’t as offended.

That has to have something to do with it. The show seems to be making fun of these kinds of people. Still, it's never stopped a few idiots from complaining that a racist character you're supposed to hate in a movie or novel used a slur. Well, of course they are. They're racist, you dumb ass.
