This could turn into a Danish Girl situation. The film didn't get great reviews at all. It's currently sitting at 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, yet both Redmayne and Vikander got in, with the latter winning. I think it makes sense to keep him in the list atm, I mean critics have him there, but there are too many obstacles, 1. The low ratings mean the film won't be nominated for anything else, 2. the money maker of this movie was Steve, he screwed up, the movie won't make a lot at the BO, which means 3. Timothée is too young to be a lone nominee for a mixed reviewed, not BO hit movie. With all that being said, I am willing to bet he still makes it based on what I said at R14, but we'll see.

I honestly don't see him being that different now than he was a year ago. Except for the hair. Which I agree makes a big difference visually. Well, I don't know what he was like as a kid but I was part of the film crew for Beautiful Boy and had some brief interactions with him and he was incredibly nice. Very down to earth and even a bit shy. And he also got along well with the other actors. I never heard them say anything bad about him.

Just in terms of Oscar chances for Chalamet, keep in mind Alicia Vikander won for The Danish Girl and that sits at 67% on RT. Crash won BP (although that was an actual hate crime). Jessica Lange won BA for Blue Sky, 77% on RT. Basically, RT score means nothing, average reviews aren't helpful but certainly not disqualifying. Chalamet's reviews have all been positive, several commenting that he outdoes CMBYN. I'm still very optimistic.

I saw his performance and I think if VICE splits the votes between Rockwell and Carell then he is making it. It's a safe bet for me.
