Do you look younger than your age?

I'm 59 and I look it. I've earned every wrinkle, every line, and every inch of my flabby granddad bod. And if they don't like what they see, fuck 'em.

I’m still in the 20s but can pass for HS senior. I wear sunscreen EVERY day, drink plenty of water, and try on jeans from HS every three months to ensure I haven’t lost my body. Thank your Hallie Berry for the Jean suggestion.
When I’m with a group of HS I sometimes get mistaken for one. Also black don’t crack

Not any longer. Until I hit 50, I looked about 8-10 years younger than my age. My secret was good genes. People in my family just don't wrinkle badly. But around 50 my face started sliding off my cheekbones and I now look every bit of my 57 years. Still hardly any wrinkles.

I’m 45 and I probably look late 30s or just 40. I dye my hair like crazy, am thin and pale so never got sun and I use Botox and have been using that for many years so not wrinkly (yet). Inside, I feel 50 or older and have “felt” old since I was like 42 (wearing reading glasses now :().

I'm 54 and got carded last week buying wine by a cute 20 something cashier. I smiled wide and handed him my license. He said, no sir I meant your AARP card. We give a 10% discount to seniors.

I just turned 49. I was at work and someone asked me how old I was turning. I said 49 and they almost fell off their chair. They said, "I totally thought you were younger, like in your late 30's." I get that a lot. The women in my family age well.
I have a very simple nighttime regime. I used Ponds make up remover cloths. Then I use Oil of Olay in the pink bottle mixed with a little bit of Rose Hips oil on the face. Then in the AM, I wash that off with just an Aveeno soap bar. I use a make up base that is tinted with some sunscreen called Tizo. I take two Flaxseed oil pills everyday.

by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 8, 2018 2:13 AM |
I don't think I do, but my whole life people have thought I was younger than I actually am. I was still getting carded in bars in my 30's. I am 67 now but people will ask me what I do for a living and I say I am retired, I often get "you're too young to be retired" Once when I started a new job at the same time as a bunch of other people were hired, I was the only one they demanded to produce a birth certificate, I think they thought I was lying about my age.
Both my parents never looked their age as long as I can remember so I just figure it is genetics.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 8, 2018 2:14 AM |
I'm black so no one can ever figure out my age. It's been that way since I was 16. I'm 48, but get anywhere in the range between 30 and 45. It's great. This happens to my Asian friends also.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 8, 2018 2:15 AM |
I have looked younger than my actual age all my life.
I am now 67 and could pass for at least 10 to 15 years younger. I take care of myself, dye my hair, watch my weight, get some exercise, and put cream on my face and various bodily parts everyday. Good genes as well.
And by the way, a lot of gay guys look younger than their age - it comes with the territory. Seen it many times.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 8, 2018 2:20 AM |
I'm 64 and my face is almost wrinkle free, thanks to years of putting on moisturizers. Also, my dermatologist has prescribed me to annually use Fluorouracil or better known as Efudex. This ointment removes all sorts of age spots and gives me a terrific complexion. I also had surgery a few years ago to remove excess skin below my chin. Not sure how much younger I look because everyone ages differently. It would be nice to have a full head of hair, but it is what it is. No "rug" for me.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 8, 2018 2:25 AM |
Yes, and not saying that because it's a DL meme. I'm early 20s and people think I'm way younger than I am. I'm short, kind of a baby face, so that makes it worse, maybe that's good when you're older but not so much when you're my age.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 8, 2018 2:25 AM |
Turning 63 on Sunday. I have a full head of hair, and maybe 5 to 10% grey. Because of that, I'm thought to be younger than I am
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 8, 2018 2:26 AM |
I have always looked older - which was great at 13-20 but after 30 not so much. At 50 I look 55. Pale Irish skin ages horribly. I have never done moisturizing or skin care. Not a health fanatic. I’ve always just been grateful to be alive and healthy and have not been obsessed with looks or aging. Not a big deal for me and I find it strange how obsessed DL is about the “I look younger” thing.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 8, 2018 2:26 AM |
I'll be 60 next month. Not a gray hair on my head. No wrinkles, no sagging neck. When people as me my age I say I'm almost 60 and no one ever says that I look so much younger. So contrary to what my ego would like me to believe, no, I don't look younger than my age.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 8, 2018 2:32 AM |
Personally, people always think I'm about five years younger. My mother has always been thought to be way younger than she is. Even when she was in her 50s, people thought she was in her 30s. She's in her 60s now and people thinks she's in her late 40s/early 50s. Doctors are always shocked when they find out.
Stress ages you and my mother handles EVERYTHING like a pro. Nothing fazes her. Nothing.

R24 Speaking as a slightly chubby older guy I disagree that extra weight makes a person look younger than their years but I would have to say chubby older guys look better than skinny older guys. I look my age and I think skinny young guys look amazing even if they aren't fit but that look does not age well at all. Old twinks never look good if they aren't toned and they look horrible if they dress young and act boyish. There are some amazing fit looking guys in their forties, not just the handsome one with square jaws and they must spend a lot of time in the gym to look that good. The only other ones who look good are slightly overweight. Older obese guys passing themselves off as stocky doesn't cut it either. The slightly chubby guys look their age though. I always laugh at the emaciated vain geriatric "twinks" who think they are too good for me.

To be honest, I think I look plenty damned old, but I somehow have managed to make it to 56 without any wrinkles. My hair, though, is completely grey. It helps to have oily, olive skin, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 8, 2018 3:24 AM |
40 here, I think I look older and I said so in the poll. Grew up on the Great Plains of Kansas, no country kids wore sunscreen. Drank a LOT in my 20s--I looked quite a bit younger than my age until I turned 34, then it all went to shit practically overnight. Never did crank or anything; it must have been the booze and the genes.
I started hitting the gym very hard a month ago. I do 90 minutes 4-5 days a week. I think I'm looking better, my posture has improved and I'm much lighter on my feet, and I sleep like the dead now thanks to the exercise so that helps.
Nothing is going to make my face 20 or 25 again, but I feel a lot better. I'll accept that. I use retinol from Amazon, Hyaluronic acid serum from Trader Joe's, and Biore Watery Essence spf 50 to help save what's left of my visage. Smiling helps pull my falling face up, so I try to remember to do that a lot more than I used to. That's something we all can do.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 8, 2018 6:01 AM |
I’m 43 and think that I look 43 but good for my age. My skin is tight and smooth- I have an olive complexion and have been moisturized every day of my life. I smoked for a few years but not heavily and quit when I was 25. I enjoy having a cocktail or two, but am not a heavy drinker. Another thing that I think has helped is that I have been wearing sunglasses since I was 9 years old so my eye area has been shielded from the sun and haven’t needed to squint as much as people who don’t wear sunglasses.

I haven't had a tan since 1971 and no stress from having children.
Having kids, judging from my younger brothers really ages you.

I thought I looked young for my age of 60. (Thin, walk with good posture, full head of hear (although silver), athletic build, vigorous movement, no limping). But in one three week period, a student accused me of being another teacher's father (that teacher is 30), I was given a senior ticket at the movie theater without even asking for one, and I left something in a paper bag at a restaurant, and the waitress turned it over to the reception desk with a note on it saying, "will be picked up by older gentleman". So apparently I'm as much of a king of self-deception as all the other posters at DL........grrrrrr
I take tiny comfort in the fact that my 96 yo mother shocks everyone who learns her age because they think she's in her 70s, and I still score 38 when I take this "what's your biological age" quiz

I am 35, though people seem to think I am anywhere from 20-26. I've always looked young for my age. It has been a conversation I've been having repeatedly my entire adult life. Just last week a 19 year old thought I was around her age.
Like the poster above, I have adult acne. This may make people think I am younger, as it is associated with youth. It may also be the oil on my face that makes it look younger, which some people believe is linked. It may be genetics, as my mother looks young for her age. I have also used a facemask relatively regularly (monthly, weekly, whenever I think of it) since I've been a teenager, so that may help.
I do expect my true age will show on my face at some point.

Only wash my face with water. Only use jojoba oil to moisturize.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 8, 2018 1:56 PM |
Just as your hair color changes as you age, your complexion does as well. Dying your hair, especially darker shades, creates a somewhat stark mismatch between the color of your hair and the tone of your skin. Women can minimize this mismatch by using a suitable foundation makeup. Men typically don't wear makeup so their dyed hair looks off when set against older skin.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 8, 2018 3:44 PM |
God - queens are really are as bad as women in terms of vanity. Botox and fillers at 30! Therefore I look good! Um, no - nobody with that much artificial maintenance looks good. It’s like aging actresses - give me a naturally aged confident woman over a pulled, pumped, injected blow up doll any day. I guess it’s a combination of the youth obsessed culture, increased narcissism and “money as solution to everything” world we live in. Seems sad to me.

My secret is genes. I also used sunblock starting from my early 20s, including on my hands and chest. My neck is not doing that thing yet (my mother's neck is fine, so maybe it never will).
I just realized I was not meant to be tan (I'm Irish German). I also have a "young energy" like my mother and my sisters. My mother went on a tour of the Amazon a couple of summers ago and met up with a woman who thought my mom was her peer, until she found out my mother was fifteen years older. My mother also married a man ten years older than she is and without fail people would think she was his daughter (THAT I do not get, maybe he looked older than I think, but I don't see it).
One of my sisters - a younger sister - started using hydroquinone 5% - can't remember the product - Omagi? something like that - then switched to generic hydroquinone 5%. It got rid of every mark on her face - the difference is amazing even if the marks are few - suddenly there's this clear canvas. I started using hyaluronic acid face masks from Neutrogenia once in a while which really wake up your face. That stuff is the real deal.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 8, 2018 4:22 PM |
HA attracts and retains moisture, it is *not* a moisturiser in itself, you all need to remember that the trick is to layer an HA serum with an emollient barrier cream - any cica cream is good, or try one of the French brands like Roche-Posay or Avene - nothing expensive is required - that is what will add plumping moisture to the skin.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 8, 2018 4:25 PM |
Yes, and my secret is no soap, no chemicals, nothing. Just warm water when I'm sweaty or dirty. I'll wash with a light, goat's milk soap if I've been mud wrestling. I stopped using 'things' in my early 30's. I also drink mostly warm water, avoid dairy products, sugar and alcohol and live in a place with very little air pollution.
All that is great, but I think it's the moderate exercise and meditation that really does the trick. Carrying around stress is very aging.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 8, 2018 4:39 PM |
I'm 58 and like R62, stoped using soap or anything harsh on my face back in my 20's. I've never not used moisturizer (don't forget your neck!) and often use sunscreen (especially on my nose). I never smoked but drink frequently. My younger brother and I looked like twins as kids. Now 55, he looks at least 10 years older than me. He's never used a moisturizer and seldom uses sunscreen despite frequently golfing and boating. Plus he has smoked his whole life. His face and forehead is heavily lined, deep crows feet around his eyes, very pronounced jowls and significant sun spots. I've used the same drugstore moisturizer the last 20 years - an inexpensive "after sun" one with aloe.

Staying out of the sun is a big factor towards beautiful, unwrinkled skin for a long time. A good hat is a worthwhile investment.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 8, 2018 7:20 PM |
Aging occurs so slowly that it's imperceptible. People usually just assume that they look as young as they feel. Most people, unless they stay out in the sun too long, have a medical condition, or use drugs, all look within 2-3 years of their age.

I know everyone says it, but I actually do. So much so that my siblings often get mistaken as my parents. My mom as my grandmother. Doctors and office personnel have rechecked my chart to confirm my age. In my 20s I hated looking younger. I was 25 and carded trying to buy a ticket to an rated R movie. Now I'm grateful. I've always had a baby face and I am olive skin. I am worried about hitting the wall at 50 though.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 8, 2018 9:19 PM |
In addition to moisturizing I typically wear cello tape between my eyebrows, at the outside edges of my eyes and on either side of my mouth so I don't accidentally move my face and cause wrinkles. It's important to stay out of the sun but sunscreens tend to be horrible toxic chemicals so I use mechanical means to keep sun off my face including an umbrella and a balaclava. The upside to the balaclava is that it conceals the tape on my face and also allows me to wear my chin hammock in public so my wattle will never develop. Everyone agrees I look extraordinary.

My dermatologist says my skin looks significantly younger than I am, so that a professional assessment. She wanted to know what I used to get it that way. It’s frequent exfoliation. Loosen up the top layer with salicylic acid and then grind it off. I’ve recently added tretinoin. Moisturizing plumps the skin, but what you really need is to get off as much excess skin as you can so that there’s less to buckle and cause wrinkles.

Younger. I'm a redhead and tend to avoid direct sunlight at all costs so that helps. In addition, I'm about 20 pounds overweight. Not saying that is healthy, but in my experience, rail thin vegans (no matter how healthy they may be) look every day their age.

Some of the idiots on this thread dont understand....looking 10-15 years younger than your actual age is not unheard of in our times. 50 years ago, a 50 year old looked like what we would say is 70 today. Ive also met 35 yr olds that look 50. It is good genes, along with grooming products and techniques and fashion that didnt exist a few generations ago.

I’m 39 (woman), still look mid-20’s and people are usually shocked by my age, but I feel like I’m on the edge of it being downhill from here. These really are the last days of my best youthful looks. Definitely seeing permanent lines on various parts of body and face. As for the positives: good genes I guess. I exercise a lot, eat much healthier, use natural soaps etc, drink plenty of water, but I don’t necessarily avoid sun and I drink a lot of alcohol. Although I’ve slowed down somewhat. I religiously use eye/face creams now and trying to up my skincare game.

I think we gay men have it right. Who doesn't want to look your best for as long as you can? I'm not talking model looking good rather just taking care of yourself. Come on, people!

I'm 33, but people think I'm ten years younger. My mom side's of the family has good aging genes. My mom is 68 and looks a decade younger.

My gram is 69 and looked, until very recently when she got really sick from black mold, like she was in her late 40's. Smooth, clear skin. No wrinkles. She used Retin-A all her adult life which I think helped.

You either have it or you don't. I know healthy and unhealthy people who look young.

I'm from a family that tends to carry a few extra pounds into middle age and we all have beautiful skin. Good, subcutaneous fat can be a blessing.
I had oily skin as a teen, with acne, so I guess it's evening out as I age. I'm 58 and probably only look a bit younger since my neck gives me away. No crow's feet, but the turkeys love me.

I’m 82 but everyone thinks I’m in my 40s.

Yes, I look younger. Most of the time.
I'm 28 and appear mid or early 20s. So, however, I do not get age-carded at bars/stores anymore, but I'm also still not considered automatically out of place in younger adult crowds. I am not avoided as the old/'mature' student at the college I've returned to, and some have aged me as young as around 22. But.. on bad days, with a beard growing, bad sleep patterns, etc, I can appear early 30s or so.
A lot of it is my skin. It isn't perfect, nor do I treat it the best with all the lotions and treatments and whatever, but I certainly treat it better than sunbathing peers of mine and I do exfoliate regularly. I think I'll look like a 20-something until at least my early to mid 30s.
I'm less concerned about my skin, than my weight. (I am tall, for context.) I was 150s in my teens and too twiggy. I was 160s around 20 or early 20s and was fine, but lacked bulk. Now I'm 170s and occasionally above 180, and it shows badly on the typical areas: ass, belly, leg and arm flab, hips. Its not major at all, but it bothered me over the years. So I'm working on losing ~10 lbs of fat and gaining muscle mass and tone to compensate. I like that my metabolism has slowed and I actually can gain weight now, but I want to catch myself before I'd enter mild obesity in my 30s, easily aging myself in some ways.
Hairline receded a little but I'm okay with short cuts and focusing more on my face. With luck, my expectation is I'll have my 30s and 40s with a moderately receding hairline and slow growth of greys, at most. A blatant bald patch before my mid-middle-age would shock me, given what I see of my known family.

Veiny which makes it look wrinkly. I see it all the time.

Some guy (straight) said to me -How old are you 45? I’m 53. I’ll take it . He said I acted younger.

Looking like you're still in your 20s when you're in your 30s is not at all uncommon. A lot of people look about the same from age 25 to age 40, especially if you're a childless woman or a man who's kept in shape and hasn't begun to lose his hair. It's usually after age 40 when genetics really comes into play and when fast living begins to catch up with one.

I find if men and women dye their hair it takes at least 10 years off easily if you have grays.
There are so many guys losing their hair in their 20's it doesn't register that is a trait for someone older.

As I've posted elsewhere, I'm 61 & earlier this year, while on a dating website claiming to be 50, I got a response from someone several states away (read: he could not have known who I was) who said I looked much younger than my (claimed) age! A new (41-year old) co-worker, after being told she was way off when she - who initiated the discussion - said she thought I was about 45, literally gasped & remarked that she felt like she was in the Twilight Zone. On a subsequent occasion, she volunteered that I was age-defying.

I tell people they look younger all the time because it makes them feel good.
