There is a nearly ten year age difference between Alexandra Waterbury & Chase Finlay and the relationship started when she was eighteen. She was possibly still a student at SAB at the time. She is nineteen now and attending Columbia University. Finlay gave her the password to his laptop to find something and she found the pictures and texts between Finlay, Catazaro and Ramasar with nude images of her having sex, etc. Waterbury didn't even know these existed. This is called revenge porn or "Stephanie's Law" and this could result in police action against Finlay.

There were pictures of other women that were shared in the texts.

Ramasar and Catazaro were not fired, they were put on unpaid suspension until January 2019 and Finlay immediately resigned when he was confronted with Alexandra Waterbury's accusations.

Waterbury found the images and texts on Finlay's computer on May 18th, she went to his employer NYCB in June asking for a settlement. NYCB investigated the accusations and late last month suspended the two dancers and Finlay resigned. Waterbury is saying that NYCB fostered an atmosphere where women were sexually abused and treated like objects. How much an employer is culpable for the disgusting behavior of its employees in their private lives outside of work is a moot point. She would have an uphill battle proving that NYCB encouraged or neglected to regulate or discipline this behavior. The fact is no one knew about it except for the persons involved.

The Craig Hall cited in the complaint is a different person from the former dancer Craig Hall who is now part of the transition team at NYCB after Peter Martins' investigation/departure. This Craig Hall is described as an "ex-SAB student" whereas the gay married Craig Hall was an ex-NYCB dancer and current part of the administration. There is another Craig Hall who is the husband of soloist Erica Pereira.

I can't fathom how this world has changed with cameras on our phones and the Internet. I was a pass around bottom amongst cast and crew of a summer theater group in the 80s and was young and stupid and totally taken advantage of. I left for college after that summer and just forgot about it and am so grateful all there is of that period is hearsay. The way those (gay) guys treated and spoke to me sounds very much like how these assholes interacted.

One of my first jobs was working at Lincoln Center for the NYCB and NYCO and being young and naive, I was surprised on how many guys in the NYCB were straight.

Their relationships could go down with this scandal. Catazaro has lost product endorsements - ditto Finlay. No other ballet company will want to hire Finlay now that he is seen as a predator. Ramasar and Catazaro have lost paid work until next year. Meanwhile, dancers like Ashley Bouder who is a vocal feminist will not want to dance with these men - Amar Ramasar was a close friend of hers. Other ballerinas will not want to deal with them. Many dancers are wondering if there are sexual photos of them circulating. Company morale must be very poor right now. This comes right on the heels of the Peter Martins scandals and accusations further besmirching the image of the company. No one wins here.

A male ballet dancer’s body is incredible. Physically they are more athletic than most athletes. What starts out to be a weekly 30 minute ballet class ends up being a way of life. Ballet class 6 days a week for hours, rehearsals, body strengthening, male classes, partnering classes, Pilates and lots and lots of smoking. Especially for the females. Cigarettes are so much better than eating food.

There are quite a few football players that take ballet classes. It is great for their flexibility, strengthening and their core. Most professional schools have adult classes. However, there are times a football player will take classes with the children. The little girls find that to be funny and giggle.

One big difference between the young boys and girls ... girls are a dime a dozen. If a young boy has potential and the natural body physic of a dancer they get a free ride. They are offered a scholarship. Since homeschooling has become so popular you will find more boys hanging at the ballet school or gymnastics. If qualifies as there gym class.

Straight or gay a male ballet dancer has been chasing little ballet girls in tutus or little boys in tights. It’s a win win situation.

He'd developed into one of the most rhythmically interesting dancers I'd seen, playing with phrases similar to the way Tiler Peck can play with them.

I have been thinking of dancers like Ashley Bouder and Lauren Lovette, both of whom were mentioned above. Ms. Lovette, in particular, posts very kind, thoughtful messages on her Instagram. She's a principal dancer and a choreographer. Ballet dancers are not known for their brains. Even the brighter ones are marred by lives spent in front of mirrors from a very young age, fitting in basic education on the run. They're curiously unformed as people, so behaviour like this at these ages in a couple of male ballet dancers isn't that surprising.

Interestingly, a friend who is a mental health professional and who has treated both dancers and doctors, says that medical school training often does to young people what ballet training does. She thinks no one should be allowed to go to medical school until 30, and after they have put in 6-8 years of mandatory experience in the normal work force.

You could wait till 28 to go to medical school, but you can't wait till 28 or even 18 to start ballet training - you have to start around 8 (there have been a few exceptions but not many).

So, it's a bizarre way to grow up, particularly for boys.

By sixteen the serious ones are gauging how far their technique can take them. It's no accident that most of the legendary instrumentalists began at 3, 4, 5, 6. The pressure to get good, and get good fast, is huge.
