What other celebrity men seem like they go to incredibly dark places when they aren't in the spotlight?

Steve Martin and Jim Carrey.
Martin has never been accused of mistreating anyone, but I think he's got deep deep underlying sadness and depression. Carrey has deep deep DEEP underlying levels of sadness, depression, and some seriously bad crazy.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 5, 2018 8:47 AM |
Ooh, good ones, [R8]! Steve Martin is notoriously “unfunny” in real life and is apparently extremely difficult to interview. He also doesn’t seem to really like people or the public. Very different than his big screen comic image.
I’ve read that he had *deep* unresolved issues with his parents—especially his father, who refused to ever give him any emotional support or approval before he died.
I think there is a significant underlying depressing and anger with Martin; agree.

Robert Downey Jr. Not sure if it's the drug use, supposed bisexuality, jail time, or what but he always gives off a dark aura. Even when he's being funny.

by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 8, 2020 8:14 PM |
Any ‘darkness’ Christian Bale has used to be indetectable. Think back to the roles of his childhood and adolescence...EMPIRE OF THE SUN, NEWSIES, LITTLE WOMEN, THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY, METROLAND....he wasn’t the actor you went to for ‘dark’ nor was he the celebrity associated with anything remotely sinister. He did voicework for Disney, for goodness’ sake.
It was his preparation for the lead roles in AMERICAN PSYCHO and THE MACHINIST that inadvertently pulled something chilling out of him, I think, and this in turn helped get him the part of Nolan’s Bruce Wayne/Batman and go even deeper into the darkness.
After those films his personality seemed to change. Perhaps extreme starvation did something to his psychological state?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | June 8, 2020 8:15 PM |
EMPIRE OF THE SUN is my favorite Bale film. Can’t believe that he has grown up to be a creep.

I'M PRETTY SURE TOM CRUISE OWNS THIS THREAD (apologies to others who post other names)... i mean he is the public face of a evil abusive insidious scam cult, he knows what goes on and turns a blind eye to it, the fact it has literally abused thousands financially, emotionally, physically, and stalks, harasses and attacks those NOT in it, he's best friends with the sociopath leader who has banished his own wife from the world for over 12 years and counting and meanwhile all the while accepts the monumentally wrong, unethical, improper, inappropriate ass kissing 24/7 from his "religion" for over 3 decades now because not only is it okay and normal but he deserves it! oh yeah, he also abandoned his youngest daughter years ago too!.... the fact that he even has A CAREER STILL IS SHOCKING!... if he was a politician (another profession that is based on public approval) he would have been made to answer to all of this years and years ago and rightfully his career WOULD have been long over...
surely he wins this "dark side" contest?!..

Jim Carrey. When he was a teenager, his father lost his job, and the family went from middle class suburban life to living in a van. After too much time homeless, the family were all hired on as caretakers some place, and Carrey had to work full-time along with his parents in addition to going to school, to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. That would be a monumentally traumatic experience for any kid, how could it not cause major psychological issues?
Carrey has reportedly been a mess in private for years, and does his best work in dark dramatic roles like "I Love You Phillip Morris" and "Man on the Moon". And there's a hell of a lot of dark energy behind his best comedic roles, as in his Riddler in "Batman Forever". He's like ALL dark side.

GUYS, GUYS, all of the men posted have "dark sides" but if we are TRULY judging on who has the darkest side in that whose dark side has affected the MOST people, then tom cruise is the winner!...
everyone else pales! everyone else either is self destructive or has hurt a couple or few people in their lives....
cruise lords over a cult that has abused and continues to do so THOUSANDS of people! at the same time he knows it, turns a blind eye, get his ass kissed 24/7 by a "RELIGION" ( a religion of all things! or so called religion that is!) and thinks it's DESERVED because well he is tom cruise after all?!
his best friend is the sociopath leader (once again, how is this remotely normal? or even ethical for a "religious" leader to have a best friend? and anyone making that person their best friend, doing all kinds of non religious activities together??!! if cruise had remained a catholic, would he expect to hang out with the pope and have the pope send his minions from Rome to kiss his ass?!), he also presumably hasn't seen the wife of his best friend since she has been banished from public view for over 12 years! yeah, nothing to see there is there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????? and lastly, yes abandoned Suri for years now!..

I think it is so crazy that Tom Cruise has not seen his daughter. He looks just like him. Are we for sure about this? Maybe he sees her in private. I saw some documentary where they showed him being honored at some Scientology function. It was so creepy. I can't watch any of his films anymore. And he's had so much plastic surgery. He's going to look like Kenny Rogers in a few years.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | July 4, 2020 12:12 AM |
R100... in regards to if cruise sees Suri secretly in private? well, here's the thing, there has never ever EVER been one single photo or video of him with suri in over 8 years, not by anyone, the "paps" or someone nearby with a cell phone!
there has never ever been one single photo or video of him arriving or leaving anywhere near where Suri was or has been by anyone (maybe his cult gave him invisible superpowers? lol!)
... Surely, katie holmes has heard the allegations he doesn't see her and simply for suri's sake, no matter how she feels about Tom now would tell the media that cruise does see her! instead, utter silence on her part!
his cult has has their disconnection policy.....
he already admitted years ago when he tried to sue the magazine "in touch" when they claimed on a cover issue how he had abandoned suri, that under oath he admitted he hadn't seen her in over 4 months at the time and that was years and years ago....
so there you have it! if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and acts like a duck, it's probably a duck! with this evidence, circumstantial or not it would seem that cruise has indeed abandoned her (besides of course the child support money he was ordered to pay) and hasn't seen her in years!..
one wonders if cruise even thinks or worries when suri hits 18 what she as a legal adult can tell the world about her father?!...

Meanwhile, all the boy bands exist because of pedophilia yet none of them get pulled from circulation like they should be by that same standard. Riz Ahmed is one sick manipulative dude. Sexual assault allegations have been floating around about him for years. He is absolutely nothing like his positive helpful image. Quite the opposite. The young women he supposedly assaulted were from the South Asian community, they were afraid to come forward, they figured they'd be shunned. That people wouldn't believe them.
Riz recently married American author Fatima Farheen Mirza in London. Fatima was Brooklyn based. The tea is, he didn't really want to marry her, but because he ruined her religious pious Muslim image by fucking her and having her live with him in London, he had to man up and marry her. Their marriage is as ridiculous as a South Asian arranged marriage. What medieval attitudes, in 2020 no less. Riz claims to be a Muslim, but sure doesn't live by the tenets of his religion, he's a hypocrite. The other tea is, he married Fatima for a green card, because he wants to move to the US and become a big star there.
No one forced Fatima to shack up with Riz. Fatima lied to her parents that she was working in France, but she was really in Riz's London apartment for nearly a year. She's about 10 years younger than creepy Riz.
Riz always dates naive younger women, women who are usually much younger than he is, by about 8-10 years. He sweeps them off to London and requires they shut down their own lives, leave their jobs, privatize their social media accounts, even erase their online portfolios (if they work in creative fields) and remain hidden. He basically requires they erase their own lives and are thereto for him and his career. Yet this is the same man who calls himself a "feminist" and is always posting about "strong powerful women". He's always promoting female authors, directors etc. His hypocrisy is glaring.
Riz never brings a GF on any red carpet, these women never get the perks any unknown woman dating a male celebrity usually gets, they get no exposure at all. ZERO exposure, because they do not exist. In interviews, Riz tells the media he's single or he makes sure to avoid any questions about his personal life. He treats his GFs like mistresses not equal partners. Riz is beyond weird. He does suffer from ADHD and depression, not sure if he's treating his mental illnesses with medications.

Riz Ahmed also dated a lazy Dutch/Pakistani trust funder who always attended NYC sex parties, she lived in NYC for several years, until Riz lured her to London. I know of one such sex party Riz attended. His religious Muslim fanbase, would not approve.

No one is FORCING you to read anything about Riz, pass these posts by, just many others here at DL who pass the obsessive threads about unknown and untalented CW actors and actresses. No one is holding gun to your empty head to read ANYTHING you don't care about, There are hundreds of threads here, go play and argue in them!
You sound like a silly bitter queen. You cannot control what others post here at DL, stop acting like a child. Stop whining!
btw, I am NOT OP, at least one other poster here is interested in Riz.
Riz is actually fascinating because his public image is absolutely NOTHING like the person is really is and that is worth writing about. Remember how perfect Bill Cosby's image was and look what was revealed?

[quote]Oh shut up about Riz Ahmed! He's a nobody and we're sick of your obsessive Hater rants!
btw, if you think I 'hate' Riz because he's a South Asian Muslim, I'm South Asian! I'm actually embarrassed and annoyed that a such a horrible man has been elevated to represent British South Asians and Muslims. Riz has always claimed to be an activist and supposedly cares so much about marginalized people. it's all a pose. Riz Ahmed is one of the least charitable celebrities in the world, yet he's cultivated a positive caring image which, sadly, way too many people have bought into. They've all been duped.
Riz lies so much, such as when he claimed to be held up at a US airport by Homeland Security as the excuse why he couldn't attend a Star Wars Celebration. Meanwhile, he was already in the US, to attend a wedding! He couldn't even get his lies straight, he gave the wrong month which he claimed to have been delayed!
There are surely other SA/Muslim actors and actresses who have the same platform as Riz, they are more sincere and not such a big fake. His agency has even dropped him, so you know this isn't idle gossip.
Again, no one is forcing you to read anything here which you are not interested in.

Are you talking about Riz's terror porn, "The Long Goodbye" video, to promote his last record? What a mess that was, he's so full of shit. He knows his white fan base will eat that shit right up. Mostly white people are the audience for his music and his wife, novelist Fatima Farheen Mirza's book, they both play to white people. They create for the white gaze and the guilt they think white people have about certain things.
You got the short man syndrome right. Riz was always rejected by all the tall glamorous sexy women he wants to date. Just last year, he was rejected by a tall gorgeous British South Asian model, he then started to pursue a short chubby American writer, Fatima Farheen Mirza. He usually settles for losers, glorified starfuckers and groupies who are impressed by his fame. In the end, his GF choices make him completely miserable, most of his GFs are incapable of having serious conversations.
After the model rejected him, Riz then managed to lure in this Fatima chick, who knows how long that will last. They're not legally married. They had a traditional Muslim Nikah wedding a few weeks ago, at his parents home in Wembley. Riz told his friends he chose Fatima to help his career! I believe them!

Leonardo DiCaprio. Creepy, eerily controlled vibe in interviews. Bad case of rageface. Also very bloated and reddish in the face, most likely from long-term alcohol abuse. Always surrounded by a huge group of hanger-ons . Often photographed wearing a necklace/pendant with a symbol that looks like a distorted W. Has the same symbol tattooed on his ankle, and I noticed that some of his 'friends' wear a similar necklace.
Allegedly Leo and his entourage call themselves the 'Wolf Pack' now ... when I first read that, I thought it was a bad joke, and if true, just incredibly childish. Then I discovered that tattoo with the W symbol, and the strange matching necklaces. Now I wonder if Leo is actually so deluded as to consider himself some kind of cult leader, and what he might make his 'followers' do to prove their devotion.
Anyway ... I used to think - many, many moons ago - that he was so adorable, just a tad too full of himself, which seemed forgiveable for a man blessed with his looks, charms and talent. But these days I have no doubt in my mind that he's a sick, a twisted, a dangerous individual.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | September 21, 2020 10:33 PM |
I doubt Leo thinks of himself as a cult leader, more like an alpha male and "chairman of the board" of his little pseudo Rat Pack.
Which is silly, as he totally lacks any Alpha Male vibe! His early success was based on his girly prettiness and his non-threatening beta-male vibe, he had that bottom-boy vibe that teen girls love for some reason. He may be middle-aged now but he doesn't come across as any manlier, now he's got that pinch-mouth bitchface you see on middle managers who like to abuse their petty authority. His adult success really is inexplicable, he tries hard as an actor but all you ever really see is him trying hard.

I agree with the poster upthread who worked at a comedy club- I would hazard that 90% of comedians or comedic actors are extremely unhappy and unkind people. There is something about making people laugh that alleviates whatever pain they're going through.
Also Method actors tend to be unhappy people (Bale, Carrey, Elizabeth Shue, DDL, Phoenix, Brody, Swank, Ledger, etc). To cancel out yourself completely to be another person, and to do it often, ehhhhh.
And to the poster who mention Elijah Wood, most people who work in horror are probably the happiest people in the world, because they get to get out all that dark stuff on film. There's an urban legend about Dario Argento- he was once asked, "What would you be if you weren't a film maker?" He answered, "A mass/serial killer".

Every human being has a dark side, this is a fact of the human psyche and hardly a feature unique to Celebrities. The seismic shift in a persons' reality when fame descends is impossible to describe and, in almost every case, disillusioning. I have never met a famous person whose experience of fame in the entertainment business matched their expectations of what it would be. Most people who pursue fame, overtly or covertly believe the attainment of fame will be a panacea and it isn't. Fame is isolating and it takes a lot of effort to maintain. People treat you differently for sure and deferentially most of the time. For a weak or damaged psyche this leads to delusion and desperation. I achieved my degree of fame later in life so it wasn't as head spinning for me but it is a mind fuck. NONE of this excuses the monstrous behavior that is starting to leak out to the general public but for years if you were famous you could expect a certain amount of insolation from your worst mistakes and that is starting to recede.
