Netflix casts Cavill in Witcher series

Good for him...terrible choice for them.

by Anonymousreply 98November 28, 2018 6:08 AM

As long as he gets THAT ass out

by Anonymousreply 1September 4, 2018 4:52 PM

He's gonna look so hot in all that medieval gear... I'm gonna see this for sure

by Anonymousreply 2September 4, 2018 4:55 PM

R1 Priorities!

by Anonymousreply 3September 4, 2018 4:57 PM

Who as what?

by Anonymousreply 4September 4, 2018 11:30 PM

I'd rather see Mads, Viggo, or Edgar Ramirez or if they really want to cash in on GoT, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

by Anonymousreply 5September 5, 2018 2:18 AM

Damn. And I was looking forward to The Witcher series. I’d rather watch paint dry than Cavill.

by Anonymousreply 6September 5, 2018 2:23 AM

Did Geralt ever have any gay encounters in the books? The witchers weren't super picky with whom they fucked, were they?

by Anonymousreply 7September 5, 2018 7:15 AM

R5 Too late now.

by Anonymousreply 8September 5, 2018 2:49 PM

R7 - no he did not.

by Anonymousreply 9September 5, 2018 2:58 PM

His career is in trouble if he's going to Netflix already.

by Anonymousreply 10September 5, 2018 3:05 PM

[R7] If he had, do you think Cavill would have accepted the part?

by Anonymousreply 11September 5, 2018 3:07 PM

Both the author of the books and CD Project Red the game developer are Polish.

I wouldn't expect to see much male homo action any time soon.

by Anonymousreply 12September 5, 2018 3:07 PM

So is he essentially Jon Hexum for this generation?

by Anonymousreply 13September 5, 2018 3:08 PM

[Quote] His career is in trouble if he's going to Netflix already.

It is??

by Anonymousreply 14September 5, 2018 3:11 PM

Yes R14. It’s early for that. But given how wooden he is, it’s not terribly surprising.

by Anonymousreply 15September 5, 2018 3:13 PM

I suspect the combo of poorly managed closet, salary demands, go-nowhere acting chops, and reputation/behavior problems on-set made it easier for WB to drop him as Superman for the time being.

by Anonymousreply 16September 5, 2018 3:35 PM

[Quote] and reputation/behavior problems on-set

Care to elaborate?

by Anonymousreply 17September 5, 2018 3:36 PM

[quote] reputation/behavior problems on-set

Interesting. I didn’t know about that. Please post reputation/behavior problems you know about.

by Anonymousreply 18September 5, 2018 3:37 PM

I live how you nerds think your silly stories of witches and monsters are somehow beyond the grasp of the acting prowess of Henry Cavill, like this is goddamn Chekhov or something.

R16 = troll/idiot

by Anonymousreply 19September 5, 2018 3:39 PM

What's the gossip on his behavior on set?

by Anonymousreply 20September 5, 2018 3:53 PM

[quote]beyond the grasp of the acting prowess of Henry Cavill, like this is goddamn Chekhov or something.

He's beautiful to look at, but he's a terrible, wooden actor. He hasn't been good in anything I've ever seen.

You don't have to be Olivier or Daniel Day Lewis, but you've got to be able to do a passable job. Even the Four Chrises do a passable job in specific roles, even if they fail at almost every other one. I mean Evans was terrible in Fantastic Four, but does a solid job, albeit not spectacular job, as Captain America.

by Anonymousreply 21September 5, 2018 3:56 PM

I actually quite liked Henry in the Man from Uncle.

by Anonymousreply 22September 5, 2018 4:04 PM

R18 I'm not the poster you were responding to but a friend of mine worked as a costumer on 'Stardust' and said he was an arrogant jerk who was horrible to the other actors and crew.

by Anonymousreply 23September 5, 2018 4:05 PM

R22 loved him in that. As said elsewhere, he needs to play a live action Sterling Archer.

by Anonymousreply 24September 5, 2018 4:06 PM

Not a fan of the Witcher series.

by Anonymousreply 25September 5, 2018 4:07 PM

[Quote] I mean Evans was terrible in Fantastic Four, but does a solid job, albeit not spectacular job, as Captain America.

I thought Evans was the only good thing about the Fantastic Four movies.

by Anonymousreply 26September 5, 2018 4:08 PM

Suuuuuure R23

despite the fact that he was barely in that movie

by Anonymousreply 27September 5, 2018 4:10 PM

[Quote] despite the fact that he was barely in that movie

What difference would that make?

by Anonymousreply 28September 5, 2018 4:13 PM

I do think it's hard to imagine a bit part actor making others miserable on set. Why would they put up with it?

by Anonymousreply 29September 5, 2018 4:20 PM

[quote]I mean Evans was terrible in Fantastic Four, but does a solid job, albeit not spectacular job, as Captain America.

[quote]I thought Evans was the only good thing about the Fantastic Four movies.

The two statements are not mutually exclusive...

by Anonymousreply 30September 5, 2018 4:20 PM

Thanks, R23.

Your post prompted me to remember a video where Stephen Dorff, who was in “Immortals” with Henry, criticized his boring personality and talked about his huge ass. I’ll try to find the video.

by Anonymousreply 31September 5, 2018 4:47 PM

What r1 said. Henry Cahill hasn't shown his butt in a decade.

We better get a look at that ass, you know Cavill would be happy to show it. He isn't getting any younger.

by Anonymousreply 32September 5, 2018 4:59 PM

R29 a bit part actor can still be on set for weeks at, a time. I don't think he made anyone " miserable" but he rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way.

by Anonymousreply 33September 5, 2018 6:03 PM

R33 = idiot

You have obviously never seen the movie, his role is so small he probably shot everything in two days.

by Anonymousreply 34September 5, 2018 6:07 PM

R33 and R23 Was your costumer friend rubbed the wrong way because he was rejected? (possibly like Dworf)

by Anonymousreply 35September 5, 2018 6:30 PM

Agree r26. The movies were dumb but Evans was likable, charismatic and hot. He did everything he was asked to do well.

I have noticed that Henry Cavills costars never seem to have a lot to say about the guy. Probably because he just isn't that interesting of a human being.

by Anonymousreply 36September 5, 2018 6:36 PM

Didn't he get along fairly well with Jonathan Rhys Meyers on the Tudors?

by Anonymousreply 37September 6, 2018 6:20 AM

They’re both drunks.

by Anonymousreply 38September 6, 2018 2:42 PM

I wonder what type of "accent" will he have, because that factors in what type of "performance" he will bring.

by Anonymousreply 39September 7, 2018 6:04 AM

[quote]His career is in trouble if he's going to Netflix already.

If he were doing a quality project that wasn't attached to a video game (and books I know) then maybe I would say it is a good move. However, Danny Garcia, his manager promised big things, and I don't necessarily see that.

by Anonymousreply 40September 7, 2018 6:08 AM

This woman pulls no punches and mentions he has some not so nice behaviors behind the set. By the way, I'm not the one who mentioned the bad set behavior.

Grace Randolph is a fucking nutcase and homophobe.

by Anonymousreply 42September 7, 2018 7:28 AM

Why is she a homophobe, because she said Cavill was gay? Well, he is.

by Anonymousreply 43September 7, 2018 7:33 AM

Henry was gorgeous in MI.

by Anonymousreply 44September 7, 2018 8:20 AM

Henry is gorgeous in everything

by Anonymousreply 45September 7, 2018 1:17 PM

[quote]Grace Randolph is a fucking nutcase and homophobe.

She makes some interesting points, but she also contradicts herself.

She notes that Cavill's fanbase is a positive, but then says that doing another genre film project is bad. Doing another genre project would appeal to and likely expand that base, so why would that be bad. It wouldn't necessarily expand beyond that base, but a bigger more devoted base among those fans would go a long way toward future roles. IRDJ didn't make his money from his critically acclaimed films, he made it in a third tier comic book character.

by Anonymousreply 46September 7, 2018 2:16 PM

Grace Randolph is interesting. She is not afraid to speak her mind even though she knows she'll get hate. That being said, she needs to sit down and fully write out her thoughts before making videos so that there are no contradictions in what she's saying.

As for this project being a step up or step down for Cavill, who knows. He's doing a project that he likes and is passionate about. It might not raise his star status but it's something he is interested in.

by Anonymousreply 47September 7, 2018 2:20 PM

[quote] he made it in a third tier comic book character.

I’m not involved in anything third rate. If anything I made this beyond first rate.

by Anonymousreply 48September 7, 2018 2:22 PM

He is solicitous with fans, directors and those that impact his career, but has developed a bad rep with some other actors and "lower" crew.

He also didn't reign in his agent (likely due to lack of savvy/smarts) who bruised them both with salary demands which WB rebuffed.

by Anonymousreply 49September 7, 2018 2:52 PM

[Quote] Doing another genre project would appeal to and likely expand that base, so why would that be bad.

It'll definitely help when it comes to conventions.

by Anonymousreply 50September 7, 2018 3:10 PM

r49 = liar/idiot

cavill avoids networking with other actors and directors almost entirely. he spent the duration of BVS offtime with a Michigan-based crossfit box and spent MI6 filming with the stunt team.

anyone who believes that he was badgering WB for salary demands is too stupid to live, it has already been rumored for years that Warner was looking to move away from extended universe and concentrate on Batman universe themed film which is what is happening. Cavill couldn't have demanded anything from WB because no one was asking him to make another Superman film.

by Anonymousreply 51September 7, 2018 3:29 PM

"Reign in," R49? It's reining illiterates.

by Anonymousreply 52September 7, 2018 3:37 PM

Ms cavill can't act for shit, wooden, lifeless and a bore. Lmao whomever compared cavill to robert downey jr is a retarded fan girl. Rdj may be a loser closet case but he's a good actor, something ms cavill ain't.

by Anonymousreply 53September 7, 2018 4:34 PM

No one is under the delusion that Henry Cavill is some great actor, and that definitely includes Henry Cavill. That is why he doesn't do some dramatic indie, he knows his strengths and weaknesses.

by Anonymousreply 54September 7, 2018 4:37 PM

I can't believe The Cavill Shill at R51.

by Anonymousreply 55September 7, 2018 4:39 PM

I'm not R51 and wouldn't call Cavill a great actor.

But it is pretty clear that there are far more issues at play in the collapse of the DCU and R51 is correct that they seem to be redoing the entire thing focused around Batman and his villains.

Cavill is about what I expect out of action movie actors. Decent enough to not ruin it

by Anonymousreply 56September 7, 2018 4:55 PM

R41 maybe Grace is thinking about the blinds saying he was lazy on the set of MI6 and let his stuntman do all the work? They removed the one from last year, and put another one during the promo tour. Grace is supposed to know the industry, is she supposed to repeat blinds to make them convincing? Cavill mentioned the Eastwood stuntmen during promo multiple times, even when not asked, it's not like he clame doing all his stunts...

[quote]But it is pretty clear that there are far more issues at play in the collapse of the DCU and [R51] is correct that they seem to be redoing the entire thing focused around Batman and his villains.

I don't think anyone is blaming Cavill for the collapse of DCU, but he surely didn't elevate his role. With that said, there were a bunch of outlets reporting that he and his manager demanded WB to fulfill his contract, give him a chunk of change and control of the story. Plus, Cavill is on record making it known he had one more movie in his contract w/WB.

by Anonymousreply 59September 8, 2018 7:37 AM

Continuing. . . Cavill pretty much flat out confirms that he met with folks to disucss a sequel, but he gets tripped up on whether or not he has another film in his contract.

From his demeanor, it doesn't seem as if things went that smoothly.

by Anonymousreply 60September 8, 2018 7:49 AM

R59/R60 = idiot

It's been known since Cavill was cast almost a decade ago that he has a four picture deal.

everyone and their son and daughter knows that Cavill has been trying to get the last film made. He made a public effort with Dwayne Johnson to get a Superman/Black Adam film made. Warner Bros said no, not because they don't want to pay him, but because they don't want another Superman film. How hard is that to understand?

by Anonymousreply 61September 8, 2018 8:02 AM

R61) You're the idiot. You can't read for shit! I said absolutely nothing you stated in your post.

On that video, Cavill doesn't seem clear that he has a 4th film, but I didn't doubt it in my posts.

So, STFU.

Here's another video for you to clear things up in your little head. I'm sure you won't watch it, frau!

Oh, it’s a Grace Randolph fanboy. No reasoning with them. She makes things up, but you’ll never convince any of her fancunts, who go into forums and refer to her as “Grace” as though everybody knows who she is. The bitch is so crazy you can see it in her eyes, like Ann Coulter.

by Anonymousreply 65September 8, 2018 8:25 AM

There were scenes in MI:F where he just disappeared into the background like a piece of wood. You have to wonder, has this guy ever taken an acting class? He’s more like a model than an actor. Should’ve taken acting classes years ago - even in interviews, it’s like he’s trying to be “Henry Cavill,” whoever that is. What a waste.

by Anonymousreply 68September 8, 2018 10:37 AM

R62 I just watched the video, Grace still wants a Batman movie with Affleck and was "reminded" how bad Cavill is at acting just from the MI6 trailer, she expected some Shakespeare apparently. She wants to protect her source in the industry but they clearly did not explain her how miserable Affleck is at being Batman. She has not intel. I wouldn't put too much weight on her judgment.

by Anonymousreply 69September 8, 2018 10:49 AM

[Quote] I just watched the video, Grace still wants a Batman movie with Affleck

Lol she's going to be waiting a while.

by Anonymousreply 70September 8, 2018 2:29 PM

Mads Mikkelson would have been Ideal or Vigo. Yes!!!

by Anonymousreply 71September 8, 2018 2:50 PM

Grace is right in that this is a let down for Cavill. He wanted a sequel but he had to settle for the 8 episode TV show. He was offered this part months ago, but he didn't hype it up. I guess he didn't until WB started greenlighting other DC projects.

by Anonymousreply 72September 9, 2018 4:52 AM

Grace seems to be putting all the blame squarely on Cavill's shoulders. She's not acknowledging that the DCEU is a fucking mess. Is Ben coming or going? What's going on with the Deathstroke? Have they finally managed to keep a director for The Flash? Justice League was suppose to introduce Darkseid and Apokolips, which would have lead into Ava Duvernay's New Gods. And how do you have Darkseid without Superman? How are they going to do a Supergirl film without her cousin not making an appearance? What's the status on The Rock's Black Adam film? The only sure bet is Wonder Woman 84".

Henry had no choice but to seek out other projects. Fans of Witcher claim that it has the potential to be as big as Game of Thrones.

by Anonymousreply 73September 9, 2018 8:38 PM

[quote]How are they going to do a Supergirl film without her cousin not making an appearance?

I think WB is kindly telling Cavill to kick rocks if they hire another actor to play Supes or don't include Supes into the movie.

[quote]What's the status on The Rock's Black Adam film? The only sure bet is Wonder Woman 84".

The Rock's career is what is stalling Black Adam. He has tons of films lined up.

by Anonymousreply 74September 10, 2018 4:32 AM

Wb doesn't want to admit defeat hence why they are putting out thses films no one likes by force, wonder woman being the only well reviewed movie out of 5 movies is an embarrassing joke.

by Anonymousreply 75September 10, 2018 7:39 AM

I guess they are following Marvel's path by highlighting lesser known superheroes.

by Anonymousreply 76September 10, 2018 7:45 AM

[quote] Fans of Witcher claim that it has the potential to be as big as Game of Thrones.

As a big fan of the books and games, I say this is certainly possible if executed properly. (And I can see Netflix pouring in a lot of money into the project.) I just don't know if Cavill is the right choice, even though the character he's playing has a dry personality. Cavill's wooden acting may be fitting for the role as it doesn't require much other than machismo and sarcasm.

by Anonymousreply 77September 10, 2018 8:07 AM

[quote]Cavill's wooden acting may be fitting for the role as it doesn't require much other than machismo and sarcasm.

I think he can do that for but for an entire season? What type of accent will be used for his character? If it's an American accent, I have less hope that he can pull this off.

by Anonymousreply 78September 10, 2018 8:28 AM

[Quote]Fans of Witcher claim that it has the potential to be as big as Game of Thrones

A Song of Ice and Fire was a highly respected and award winning series, the Witcher is most known for its video game adapations.

by Anonymousreply 79September 10, 2018 6:55 PM

Disagree sharply R79. I read ASOIAF before the show and only ever knew one other person who had read them.

While I know at least a dozen people who play the Witcher. It is massively more popular now than ASOIAF was pre-HBO

by Anonymousreply 80September 10, 2018 8:33 PM

[quote] I think he can do that for but for an entire season? What type of accent will be used for his character? If it's an American accent, I have less hope that he can pull this off.

In the video game series he has a raspy American accent, so I'm praying Cavill doesn't attempt that and embarrass himself.

by Anonymousreply 81September 11, 2018 1:25 AM

I was speaking in terms of how good the series will be r80.

by Anonymousreply 82September 11, 2018 3:14 AM

a song of ice and fire will not be beat, not in quality or success. And the dumbass fat bitch who said so is a deluded twat.

by Anonymousreply 83September 11, 2018 4:19 AM

Im surprised so many people here know Grace Randolph. DL is always more nerdy than I expect. I watched a few of her videos a while ago but didn't stick with her. What turned me off was that she was posting really good reviews of her own comic without saying she wrote it lol

by Anonymousreply 84September 11, 2018 1:25 PM

Also, of course I'm gonna watch Henry Cavill in a sweaty, gritty action show, and you queens all know you will too

by Anonymousreply 85September 11, 2018 1:26 PM

Disappointing casting. Most of the fans were hoping for Mads or Nikolaj, or at least someone of their type. Less interested now.

by Anonymousreply 86September 11, 2018 1:29 PM

It is not fair to compare it to Game of Thrones. No other show can attain its success. Therefore a new show's success cannot be evaluate depending if it matches GoT numbers or not.

It is like deeming a movie respectable if and only if it reaches Titanic/Avatar's numbers.

by Anonymousreply 87September 11, 2018 8:15 PM

LOL at stupid fanboys thinking Nikolai would commit to a very similar role of the same genre after eight years of Game of Thrones

Fanboys have so little imagination.

by Anonymousreply 88September 11, 2018 9:44 PM

He's not Superman anymore.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 89September 12, 2018 4:20 PM

Well, good for him he has The Witcher lined up.

They probably let his team anounce the Netflix series before coming out with his firing in order to let him save face a bit.

by Anonymousreply 90September 12, 2018 4:24 PM

Ok, who think they posted that info to distract from the backlash for the diversity casting of Ciri in the Witcher? They opened the casting to POC for a white character. What would it be called, reverse whitewashing?

Now that WB sent the message "he is not fired, yet", because they have no project for Superman in the upcoming movies, why are people speculating on who will replace him?

by Anonymousreply 91September 13, 2018 5:28 AM

R91) They never said "He is not fired, yet." They said they haven't made any decision on any Superman movies, but they had great respect and a great relationship with Henry Cavill. "

They never denied the reports that he was out as Supes. Their statement is just PR. They won't be the bad guys and say they fired him. They won't do anything. They won't decide about a Superman movie, but they HAD a great relationship with Cavill.

by Anonymousreply 92September 13, 2018 6:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 95September 13, 2018 8:15 PM

R94 How do you want me to call her, do you know how many psycho bitch exist in this world? Calling people by their name is a very convenient way to specify who you're talking about. I don't know you, but at the same time we're all anonymous, so no risk to use your name...

Can I still link her video to say she is wrong? I like to do that!
