DECADES Retro TV is Gone

As of today, Decades has been replaced by Star TV.

The new network was created at the request of CBS for a more modern series programming. Star primarily airs television drama series from the 1980s to 2000s with a focus on police and legal procedurals geared toward female audiences.

by Anonymousreply 102September 10, 2018 1:05 AM

Oh good a new Frau channel

by Anonymousreply 1September 3, 2018 10:16 PM

with a focus on police and legal procedurals

So 24/7 NCIS franchises.

by Anonymousreply 2September 3, 2018 10:22 PM

God that focus sounds boring

by Anonymousreply 3September 3, 2018 10:28 PM

Oh, great. A home for "The Division"!

by Anonymousreply 4September 3, 2018 10:35 PM

Sounds like utter shit.

by Anonymousreply 5September 3, 2018 10:43 PM

NBC seems to have 24/7 Law and Order channels, it's only logical CBS respond in kind.

by Anonymousreply 6September 3, 2018 10:46 PM

Are you sure, OP? I'm watching Decades on my local station's digital subchannel right now. Star TV appears to be located in India, according to Google!

by Anonymousreply 7September 3, 2018 10:58 PM

Sounds like garbage but not surprising . My local broadcast market replaced the channel called Movies! , which showed classic 20th Century Fox cinematic content, with some piece of shit called Justice Network, which is essentially 24/7 video of white trash involved in police incidents.

by Anonymousreply 8September 3, 2018 11:04 PM

It's not gone; it's just on a different channel. In LA it's on 54.2 now.

by Anonymousreply 9September 3, 2018 11:04 PM

R8 I still have Movies! To Catch A Thief played yesterday

by Anonymousreply 10September 3, 2018 11:05 PM

Website is still up.

Don’t all those nostalgia channels just trade shows with each other?

It seems if one show stops playing on one network it pops up on the other.

They rotate the same group of shows. They should expand the number of shows.

by Anonymousreply 12September 3, 2018 11:18 PM

I'm in Tampa and Decades hasn't been reassigned to another channel yet. r9, do you know what channel 54.2 was before? I'm just curious.

by Anonymousreply 13September 3, 2018 11:27 PM

My TV is showing The Closer (Kyra Sedgwick) on StartTv. That sounds in line with what OP stated.

by Anonymousreply 14September 3, 2018 11:27 PM

Will the new channel have mesothelioma commercials too, OP?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 15September 3, 2018 11:35 PM

that's very specific OP.

by Anonymousreply 16September 3, 2018 11:36 PM

WTF, MAN! No more Dick Cavett? No more of those cool one hour look back at history? Are they freaking serious?

FUCK!!!!!!

[quote]Star primarily airs television drama series from the 1980s to 2000s with a focus on police and legal procedurals geared toward female audiences.

So a shittier version of Get TV and Escape?!!!!

by Anonymousreply 17September 3, 2018 11:45 PM

Okay, so I checked out the Decades website and found this message:

[quote]To our Decades viewers: As of Monday, Sep. 3, the Decades network has a number of different affiliates in cities across the U.S. We regret that in some cities, Decades is temporarily unavailable. Please check back to this page frequently for information on new channels for Decades this fall. If you are a broadcaster or a cable company and would like to carry Decades, please contact us.

It shows which stations in each market will be replacing the ones that went today, so there's hope yet.

by Anonymousreply 18September 3, 2018 11:49 PM

[quote]Don’t all those nostalgia channels just trade shows with each other?

Yes, but Decades actually has cool original programming called "Through the Decades", which does spotlights on interesting historical events and people, as well as weekend long marathons.

by Anonymousreply 19September 3, 2018 11:51 PM

Click on the link to see where Decades is now located in your area.

Note that MeTV, Decades and the new StartTV are all owned or co-owned by Weigel Broadcasting.

[quote]I'm in Tampa and Decades hasn't been reassigned to another channel yet. [R9], do you know what channel 54.2 was before?

I don't know. We have a weird situation in LA -- MeTV has always been on 56.3, but for some reason my cable company never carried that channel so I had to watch it OTA (over the air.) But then Weigel bought Channel 54, which used to the Azteca (Spanish-language) affiliate in LA. They put MeTV on 54.1 (although it's still on 56.3 as well) and now they're putting Decades on 54.2. But of course my cable only carries 54.1, so Decades is now going to be OTA only for me.

by Anonymousreply 23September 4, 2018 1:40 AM

That meant to say pissed spectrum customer.

by Anonymousreply 24September 4, 2018 1:40 AM

Still on here in Houston.

by Anonymousreply 25September 4, 2018 2:18 AM

Thanks r20. I was getting Decades on CW drop down channel 44.2. Their website only says coming soon.

by Anonymousreply 26September 4, 2018 2:29 AM

Thanks for the update R9. I freaked out at no more Dick Cavett too.

by Anonymousreply 27September 4, 2018 2:40 AM

In Chicago they took Decades off as the subchannel for CBS2 (one of the main channels) and apparently moved it to a subchannel of some UHF station. (Well, they're all digital now, but it's one of the channels with a number that would have been UHF in the old days.)

R30 is projecting.

by Anonymousreply 31September 4, 2018 3:05 AM

No, R31, I think it's ridiculous that someone would react so vehemently about tv shows. It's insanity. And, I can't even figure out how my post would be projecting. Projecting what? Do you even know what projecting means?

by Anonymousreply 32September 4, 2018 3:19 AM

Ugh, I just checked and now have Starter. I really liked many of the weekend binge watches. I got to watch several classic tv shows (e.g., Naked City, Route 66, etc.) that were before my time.

by Anonymousreply 33September 4, 2018 3:55 AM

It's off the air in the NYC metro area. I'm going to miss the weekend Doris Day Show marathons they run every so often,

by Anonymousreply 34September 4, 2018 3:57 AM

R34 I never got it to begin with? Do you have Fios?

by Anonymousreply 35September 4, 2018 4:40 AM

Everything being discussed is on over-the-air digital channels, R35.

by Anonymousreply 36September 4, 2018 4:56 AM

R35 I don’t follow...

by Anonymousreply 37September 4, 2018 5:12 AM

Ricdiculous how vehemently r30/ r32 reacted to a person simply expressing a strong reaction of upset upon hearing that some of their favorite programming is no longer avaable. This commenter at r30/r32 is insane and should get a life.

by Anonymousreply 38September 4, 2018 5:17 AM

[quote]It's not gone; it's just on a different channel. In LA it's on 54.2 now.

The signal for that channel is so weak it won't even scan into my tv, and I have an amplified antenna. This sucks. Decades is a cool channel; remember they picked up the ball when SiFy dropped the 4th of July "Twilight Zone Marathon" this year.

by Anonymousreply 39September 4, 2018 5:24 AM

"SciFY"

by Anonymousreply 40September 4, 2018 5:25 AM

Goddamn it, "SyFy"

by Anonymousreply 41September 4, 2018 5:26 AM

3 hours of Cold Case from 2-5 today. Much better than Decades.

by Anonymousreply 42September 4, 2018 7:21 AM

R17 a shittier version of Escape?

Didn't think that was possible.

by Anonymousreply 43September 4, 2018 12:13 PM

[quote[Are YOU serious? Get a life.

No, I actually wasn't all that serious, jackass. I was disappointed by the news but just going over the top to be funny. (I'm also R18 and R19).

[quote]No, [R31], I think it's ridiculous that someone would react so vehemently about tv shows. It's insanity.

No, you're a pretentious asshole who didn't realize that I was laying it on thick with my reaction. Take off your mentally disabled helmet, reread R17 and ask yourself if someone would really be that upset offline. Of course they wouldn't be, stupid.

by Anonymousreply 44September 4, 2018 1:15 PM

[quote]The signal for that channel is so weak it won't even scan into my tv, and I have an amplified antenna. This sucks.

Do you have a roof antenna (as opposed to an indoor one)? If you do, you can boost the signal with an amplifier. Just plug it into any outlet, plug the rooftop cable and antenna cable into it, and you're good to go.

by Anonymousreply 45September 4, 2018 1:33 PM

In the SF Bay Area, I think Dish carries them, but not Comcast. Neither MeTV or Decades is OTA here. Wouldn’t matter anyway, I live in a condo and have to have cable. Rabbit ears and other antennas don’t work in my building. I can even get AM radio except outside on the patio.

by Anonymousreply 46September 4, 2018 2:56 PM

R44, most of us got what you were doing there.

Fuck!!!

by Anonymousreply 47September 4, 2018 2:57 PM

Meant to say....Can’t get AM radio except on the patio.

by Anonymousreply 48September 4, 2018 2:58 PM

Time to rescan your TV.

I dropped cable long ago and now there are so many OTA channels.

I think September is also when they shift the schedules of the programs around.

"The Big Valley" is now on Saturdays only and has been replaced on the Me-TV M-F schedule with "In the Heat of the Night".

But DL favorate "Murder She Wrote" is still on COZI-TV and has picked up another hour.

by Anonymousreply 49September 4, 2018 3:14 PM

Miss R30, please change your bloody tampon.

by Anonymousreply 50September 4, 2018 7:32 PM

You can also boost an indoor antenna, R45. You can buy a cheap amplifier to attach to your current antenna, or you can buy an antenna that has a built-in amp, such as the Mohu Leaf, or Amazon's knockoff version.

DECADES is still around but, in some markets, stations are replacing it with the new Start TV channel

by Anonymousreply 52September 4, 2018 7:52 PM

That was the one channel where I could get my I Love Lucy fix. Dang.

by Anonymousreply 53September 4, 2018 9:03 PM

Cold Case is actually pretty good. They take cold cases and use flashbacks to enhance the clues they find. Not just recent history but 30s-60s. I like The Closer and as it goes further into the seasons the cops get interesting. Still, I will miss the old shows.

by Anonymousreply 54September 4, 2018 9:22 PM

Tomorrow, 9/5/18, 2 PM Eastern, "A Time to Hate," Cold Case's gay baseball episode, will air. Great episode. Brandon Routh.

loved watching Laugh-In. Much is dated but a lot is just good old fashioned comedy and I would break out laughing at stupid stuff. Me Tv also ended thir Summer of Me which made me very happy when it aired The Odd Couple every Sunday from 7-8pm Sundays.

by Anonymousreply 56September 4, 2018 9:31 PM

Get TV has Johnny Cash every Sunday night at 7.

It's a fantastic show. It's an hour long concert every week.

by Anonymousreply 57September 4, 2018 9:37 PM

My mom is very upset - we bought her a new antenna just so she could tune in Decades on LA 2.2 and now nothing will bring in 54.2..

by Anonymousreply 58September 4, 2018 10:12 PM

Try the amplifier, R58. Trust me. It works. Try the Channel Master if you have a roof antenna, or what R51 said.

by Anonymousreply 59September 4, 2018 10:19 PM

I'm watching it now, r55.

by Anonymousreply 60September 5, 2018 9:16 PM

Ehhhh. I forgot how damn emotionally manipulative this damn show is with its damn music.

by Anonymousreply 61September 5, 2018 9:58 PM

And we love it, r61.

by Anonymousreply 62September 5, 2018 10:03 PM

I wish MeTv would change up its schedule. They’ve shown nothing but Andy Griffith, MASH and Hogan’s Heroes for YEARS at night.

by Anonymousreply 63September 7, 2018 1:11 AM

I really liked The Closer during the original run. I’m trying to watch it right now, it’s not as good as I remember.

by Anonymousreply 64September 7, 2018 1:17 AM

I never thought the storytelling on The Closer was that good.

by Anonymousreply 65September 7, 2018 2:22 AM

Oh, I'm loving it as much as always. I was willing to overlook how truly annoying Brenda Lee could be then and do so now. I'm in L.A. and have an indoor antenna. When I go to 54.2 there's no signal, but it does show up as Jerusal. And there's no listing for a 54.2 on the TV Guide site. Where's my Decades? I'm watching Medium right now and it's good to see it again.

by Anonymousreply 66September 7, 2018 6:58 PM

Rescan your television for new stations. I had Decades show up on two different stations in Chicago. One in the 48 or 43 range of channels and one in, I believe, the 54 range. Not sure if those would be the same elsewhere. And, one of them wasn't labeled correctly. I think they switched over the programming but the guides that assign the channel names weren't updated as quickly so you have to look what's actually playing on the stations that pop up.

by Anonymousreply 67September 7, 2018 9:45 PM

r66 I'm in LA and usually get decent OTA reception, but I re-scanned on two different TVs and can't pull in 54.1 or 54.2. Fortunately I can get MeTV on either 56.3 or on my cable, but I can't get Decades anymore. I guess I need a better antenna or they need a stronger signal.

by Anonymousreply 68September 7, 2018 10:40 PM

Thanks r67 and r68! I don't get any of the 8s, but I do get 63.3 which seems to be the same as 8.3. I skipped watching two episodes of Cold Case today because they're so damn tragic. During one of them I watched Naked City instead. It guest starred your Miss Lois Nettleton sporting a Melania accent. Much more uplifting than the white milkman aiding and abetting the rape of that poor black woman in 1939, or that poor little boy in his cowboy outfit found dead in the box. I used to watch Cold Case but I'm trying to remember if they were all such major downers.

by Anonymousreply 69September 7, 2018 10:54 PM

A TRILLION Channels and DVD Box Sets and KNOTS LANDING ----one of the longest running tv shows is no where to be found....

by Anonymousreply 70September 7, 2018 10:55 PM

Cold Case was never available anywhere before, R70, due to the cost of the music rights which weren't negotiated because it ran before DVD sets were a big thing, I guess. So, keep hope alive. Isn't there a pirated version of Knots available anywhere? Actually, I just looked an it's on Amazon. Only four left...better order soon!

by Anonymousreply 71September 7, 2018 10:59 PM

Yay! Watching Cold Case now! It's not available on DVD or streaming because of the shitload of money they have to pay for the music rights.

Plus, Danny Pino is hot!

The only thing I really liked on Decades was the Hawaii 5-0 (original) marathon weekend

by Anonymousreply 72September 7, 2018 11:07 PM

I switched back too soon and caught the tail end of the little boy in the cowboy outfit episode. Damn. I have to get a hankie.

by Anonymousreply 73September 7, 2018 11:09 PM

If anyone ever argues about the power of the background music in television and movies, just have them watch any episode of Cold Case.

by Anonymousreply 74September 7, 2018 11:11 PM

[quote]I wish MeTv would change up its schedule. They’ve shown nothing but Andy Griffith, MASH and Hogan’s Heroes for YEARS at night.

I agree, R63. I love MeTV and think it's one of the best retro channels around, but it's time for them to change up their lineup for sure. As usual, they just implemented their "new" fall schedule last week and, as usual, all they did was add two new shows ("In the Heat of the Night" at 12 noon weekdays and "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" on Saturday nights) and that's about it. Everything else is basically the same. Oh, and they're running three hours of "Gilligan's Island" every Sunday from 2 to 5.

Speaking of "Gilligan," I figure it, "Andy Griffith," "The Carol Burnett Show," and "MASH" must get BOFFO ratings and that's why they refuse to ever move these shows or take them off the air completely, even if for just a little while. It's also time for them to make major changes to their "Sci-Fi Saturday" lineup because both "Wonder Woman" and "Lost in Space" are definitely played the fuck out -- but again, the ratings for these two must be spectacular and that's why they never budge. Hell, they certainly had no problem taking off "Superman" and "The Outer Limits" both after only a very brief run.

by Anonymousreply 81September 8, 2018 4:02 AM

R81 here. I misspoke on one point -- "Gilligan" just came back to MeTV this past summer. They actually did remove it from the schedule for the last year or so before eventually bringing it back.

by Anonymousreply 82September 8, 2018 4:10 AM

Decades Channel is 31.5 over the air in DC. Still on Friday September 7.

by Anonymousreply 83September 8, 2018 4:16 AM

They had Highway Patrol and Sea Hunt running in a block every morning for about five years. It's almost like they are just on automatic pilot.

by Anonymousreply 84September 8, 2018 4:17 AM

[quote]it's time for them to change up their lineup for sure.

I think MeTV keeps it all the same or close to it on purpose. It's like comfort tv. Turn it on, not have to pay attention, lose yourself in repetitiveness. Let's people remember when they were happy or content in life. Basically before Reagan. Do they even have any shows from the 80s?

by Anonymousreply 87September 8, 2018 5:48 AM

In LA, the new Decades station is braodcastong from Mt Harvard rather than Mt Wilson (about three miles south and at a lower altitude) so few I know have been able to pick it up. Hopefully, they'll boost the signal soon.

by Anonymousreply 88September 8, 2018 10:45 AM

[quote]Do they even have any shows from the 80s?

R87, the more modern shows (i.e., shows from the '80s/'90s) on their schedule would probably be "The Facts of Life," "Diff'rent Strokes," "Matlock," "Touched by An Angel," and "Diagnosis Murder." They also just added "In the Heat of the Night."

by Anonymousreply 89September 8, 2018 8:56 PM

Still waiting for Decades to return here in NYC. I'm already missing Through the Decades, which is ridiculously underrated. I remember when I first saw it thinking that it was going to be a cheesy infotainment series only covering fluff, but it covers a lot of historical, political and cultural events and phenomenons that even I forgot or missed the second time around.

by Anonymousreply 90September 8, 2018 9:09 PM

R90 Doesn't CNN do decade retrospectives now?

by Anonymousreply 91September 8, 2018 9:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 92September 8, 2018 11:30 PM

r88 I live reasonably close to Mt. Harvard (north-central San Gabriel Valley) and I can't pick it up.

by Anonymousreply 93September 8, 2018 11:31 PM

Two-thirds of the over-the-air channels in LA serve the "immigrant community", and they're all super-strong signals. They can afford to sacrifice one channel and replace it with Decades, just sayin'.

by Anonymousreply 94September 8, 2018 11:45 PM

This thread is just sad. Let’s face it, the vast majority of you are 75 years ago and won’t be around much longer without your previous Decades TV anyway.

by Anonymousreply 95September 8, 2018 11:50 PM

I have a Smart TV. None of my channels is in decimal format.

RCN in my area dropped Decades.

by Anonymousreply 96September 8, 2018 11:59 PM

r96 A Smart TV has nothing to do with over-the-air broadcast channels. For those it functions just like any other TV with an antenna connected to it.

by Anonymousreply 97September 9, 2018 1:52 AM

r94 Yes, but Channel 54 used to be one of those immigrant channels -- it was the local affiliate of Azteca America. Weigel, which owns MeTV, START, and co-owns Decades, bought KAZA. Azteca America is now on a station out of Ventura (KJLA-57).

by Anonymousreply 98September 9, 2018 1:55 AM

R87 I get the appeal of not wanting to plan ahead on what to watch. It can kind of overwhelming with all the options these days. That said, I'm close to owning all my favorite tv show box sets already. For fans of The Twilight Zone, the blu ray set is a must.

R90 I kind of like the idea of a docu series that covers modern history. Most cable channels show the same ww2 footage over and over again. The CNN docs were OK but pretty much fluff. They don't go into that much depth at all. Most are on Netflix btw.

by Anonymousreply 99September 9, 2018 1:59 AM

When Channel 54 was an immigrant station (just last month) it was light and bright and loud just like all the other immigrant stations.

by Anonymousreply 100September 9, 2018 3:02 AM

Through the Decades wasn't something I watched at all since I knew pretty much all of what was covered. But I like the idea of having a show like that so that hopefully people 40 and younger can get a real idea of what has gone down historically. Let's face it many just don't have much of a clue and aren't likely to purchase books about these things. When I was a kid in the 70s I used to watch the old series Biography with Mike Wallace. I remember WPIX aired it on Sat or Sun morning at maybe 7am. I had a small b&w tv in my room. I learned so much about the movers and shakers of the 20th Century like Churchill, Gandhi, Mao, Babe Ruth, Einstein, Huey Long (Sen from Louisiana, whose story POTUS might want to read about. Oh, I forgot he can't read), FDR, etc (and of course Hitler). Practically none of that was covered in school. I'm such a history buff because of that show.
