It was basically created so that unskilled workers could earn good money, and gave boomers high paying jobs in factories etc...those jobs no longer exist, so why make a holiday for Labor Day? Why reward a generation of people who basically destroyed the economy and left nothing for future generations?
If you really think about it, Labor Day is the holiday that should be canceled.

No let's not think about it. America has the least holidays of most countries on Earth and we work longer days too. So you can cancel it for yourself but not for me!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 3, 2018 5:34 PM |
Well fine, R1, but we should name it after something worthwhile.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 3, 2018 5:36 PM |
I thought it was to honor all workers?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 3, 2018 5:36 PM |
It's strongly associated with unions, R3.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 3, 2018 5:38 PM |
^you mean the unions that used to fight for fair working conditions and raises? The unions that were destroyed and demonized to the point where the word union is a dirty word for most Americans.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 3, 2018 5:41 PM |
maybe it should be a holiday and a Mandatory Minimum Wage Increase Day, every year the minimum wage goes up by $2.00 No more having the loyal servants of the rich in Congress "debate" this issue. Just set it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 3, 2018 5:46 PM |
It's a dirty word now, R5. The previous generation ruined all those jobs and now it's nearly impossible to get ahead. Why celebrate? The unions and their workers got too greedy and now there's nothing because of them. Bullshit holiday. Everyone now has to go out and actually get an education if they want a decent job and earn their wage honestly instead of expecting high pay for menial work.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 3, 2018 5:47 PM |
the unions didn't get too greedy, the rich fuckwads on Wall Street won. They won with Reagan and every president since. They won with Congress. They won with most state legislatures and most governors. For now, they pretty much run the country. And when they fuck it all up they get Bailouts.
Maybe we should think about changing that.

F&F.

OP is an old queens douche that thinks he is superior to anyone working class.
Fuck you dude. Take your old ass to the beauty parlor and get a purple rinse.

Some just happen to be whiners. You just have nothing else to do beside complaining at everything. Sad and sorry losers
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 3, 2018 5:54 PM |
That should be changed too, R8. Corporate bailouts are bullshit too.
But yes, unions got greedy. Look at all those people making like 40$ an hour to push buttons in the automobile industry. How is it fair that they were making more than skilled workers?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 3, 2018 5:54 PM |
OP has no idea what he’s talking about. Hopefully he dies a very painful death soon and does the world a favor. We have enough stupid people stinking up the planet.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 3, 2018 5:57 PM |
How am I wrong, R14? What's to celebrate?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 3, 2018 5:59 PM |
Your death, r15.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 3, 2018 6:00 PM |
Mature, R16.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 3, 2018 6:02 PM |
OP is fundamentally wrong, but for the record, I'd like to say he doesn't deserve the death penalty.
Thank you, DL, carry on.

[quote]The unions and their workers got too greedy and now there's nothing because of them.
Oh yes, and the capitalists on Wall Street like Carl Icahn who sold American jobs for pennies on the dollar, the men like Mitt Romney who stole lifelong earned benefits and dumped the liabilities on the government, and hedge fund billionaires like Martin Shkreli who bought old patents for a pittance, altered the formulas slightly and renewed the patents for another 75 years and then jacked the price of a pill that costs a penny to produce to $175 each — and let sick people who couldn't afford the meds die — are just angels who deserve everything they've got.
I'll second R14's wish.

Bastard Reagan and his cunt Thatcher in the UK destroyed the middle class with their trickle down bullshit and anti-union agendas. Those sellouts ushered in the era of unchecked corporate greed and a fuck you attitude to the hard working man and woman. He'll is too good for the likes of them and the shitstains who have come after them.

OP and OP at R7 =management
People with next to no power can't realistically be blamed.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 3, 2018 7:33 PM |
Dear, darling, dainty, dimwitted OP:
The Labor Day holiday was established in 1882.
And you're blaming the Boomers.

Did anyone else see the data collected on Russian troll farms and the anti-vaccine movement? Basically they just used Twitter to stir up descent on the subject. Sometime posting from both sides of the issue, if I remember correctly.
We see this all the time on DL. I have no idea if OP is a Russian troll, a regular troll or just a lonely man living in his mother's basement.
Arguing that Labor Day recognized on a national level in 1894 has anything to do with boomers and factory jobs is well, stupid. Unless somehow boomers have the capacity to travel back in time. I promise you this particular boomer has no such skill.
Labor Day celebrates the labor movement. That includes all of the labor movement. Today and yesterday. I guess tomorrow.
