Studio plants are posting dozens of fake, over the top user reviews for A Star is Born at the IMDB
How you can spot studio plants at the IMDB:
1. Only just registered within the past day 2. Hasn't rated any other movie 3. Rates movie 10/10 4. Declares the movie is one of the following: "breathtaking", "masterful", "instant classic", "a masterpiece", "unprecedented", "earth shattering", "groundbreaking"
Here's my favorite:
[quote]Masterful [quote]The cinematography acting and writing is absolute perfection. Its the best movie of 2018

All part of the campaign, haha. I doubt this is the only film this has happened with. I tend to ignore IMDb scores for the most part anyway.

I have always been suspicious of long IMDb reviews that mention the name of everyone involved – actors, directors, producers, etc. Just seems a bit over the top to me.

I can't stand Bradley Cooper so I want this movie to bomb big time.

Any time I see the word "romp" in a review, I figure it's fake.

Too be fair, the professional reviews seem uniformly positive.

There's only ONE negative review on Rotten Tomatoes? Seems like payola for sure.

IMDB is a shadow of its former self since they took away the message boards. Thanks Jeff.

I am sure this happens all the time.

It's just as fake as the white people that posted pix of the injuries they received from black people while watching Black Panther. It all turned out to be old pictures of injuries received from other accidents or portfolio pictures from practical effects make-up artists.
KaKa hasn't had anything great since Applause, the rest if that Artpop album was shit.

THIS is why they took away the message boards. The studios didn't want people shitting on their movies, It had nothing to do with trolls.

Yes, it's always kind of been a problem at the IMDB but this is the first time I've ever seen it so blatant. At least in the past, the fake reviewers would write two, three paragraphs to make it sound as if they had really watched the movie and cared enough to put some thought into their comments. But these plants are not even trying at this point. It's two sentences gushing about how stupendous, magnificent and masterful the movie is and how it's bound to win best Oscar.

Also, these buzzwords:
1. Delightful
2. Enchanting
3. Revolutionary
4. Astounding
5. Exquisite
6. Captivating
7. Electrifying

They've been busy on Twitter, too. I saw some "entrainment writer" gushing that "this movie is going to be the millennial generation's Titanic."
I've never seen a movie with this much intense PR work before.

These sound just like the usual Marvel planted/paid shills.

If it is the Titanic for this generation then Lady Gaga will be the iceberg that takes it down.

And why do you care OP? This is all you have to worry about in life? Good for you.

A 4th remake? I hardly think so. LOL!

I think the same thing happened with "District 9." Before it was even playing at the theatres, it was a 250-top movie with a 10 rating. I rated it a 1 to try to bring down the average. It was ok, but it didn't deserve the opening hype.

I think it is interesting that it's getting so many "Amazing" reviews... hasn't the release date been pushed back several times? Haven't they had to do numerous reshoots and/or rewrites?
When was the last time someone was able to salvage a mediocre/bad film and turn it into a "Glorious Masterpiece?"

Great sleuthing, OP. We need you on Chris Watts thread.

The only one I can think of is David Fincher's Zodiac. However, it bombed at the box-office.

I only look at reviews of old movies on IMDB. Newer movies have professional reviews that are more trustworthy. Rotten Tomatoes for newer movies.

R23 are you me? I did that with district 9 and all the Nolan Batman films as well as la la land
