For the sake of emotion i hope Khachanov will win the first set

by Anonymousreply 1August 31, 2018 7:23 PM

Come on Khachanov, hold your serve and take this first set!

by Anonymousreply 2August 31, 2018 7:23 PM

My decision to close the roof on Ashe worked like a charm!

by Anonymousreply 3August 31, 2018 7:26 PM

Domi smashes his racket into oblivion and Fritz has a bleeding leg

by Anonymousreply 4August 31, 2018 7:27 PM

From the last thread:
The Harrisons look like big-assed Hitler Youth brothers

They’re big assed?

by Anonymousreply 5August 31, 2018 7:28 PM

YES! Khachanov wins the first set!

by Anonymousreply 6August 31, 2018 7:29 PM

R Harrison is big assed, little brother average ass

by Anonymousreply 7August 31, 2018 7:31 PM

I can't wait to get Taylor Townsend ANOTHER undeserved wild card. YOU WILL WATCH HER. I don't care how out of shape is and will always be.

by Anonymousreply 8August 31, 2018 7:32 PM

^^^^^ *she is

by Anonymousreply 9August 31, 2018 7:33 PM

R8: It's really a shame that she is so out of form because her game is very interesting and she is very talented, but given the fact that her fitness didn't improved since she was a junior i lose any hope some day she'll be competitive

by Anonymousreply 10August 31, 2018 7:34 PM

R8 Taylor did not get a WC this year. Her ranking was more than high enough for direct entry.

by Anonymousreply 11August 31, 2018 7:39 PM

Sloane was impressive until 6-3 3-1 then Azarenka played better and Sloane's form dipped. When Azarenka was up 4-3 and a bit of rain came, that flipped the match again. Sloane came up much calmer and Azarenka seemed under pressure again. Going into the match Azarenka had looked better but Sloane raised her level compared to the first 2 rounds. Mertens up next who just beat her in Cincinnati though so not easy.

Khachanov off to a great start

by Anonymousreply 12August 31, 2018 7:41 PM

Taylor Townhouse will be inside the Top 65 when the next rankings come out.

by Anonymousreply 13August 31, 2018 7:42 PM

Domi 2 sets to 1 up on Daddy

by Anonymousreply 14August 31, 2018 7:51 PM
Taylor Townhouse will be inside the Top 65

Kilos or pounds?

by Anonymousreply 15August 31, 2018 7:57 PM

Khachanov will probably choke but till now he is giving Rafa good trouble (this is the least we should ask to a next gen player)

by Anonymousreply 16August 31, 2018 7:59 PM

R12 The roof never should've been closed. Armstrong wasn't. And isn't it open again for the Nadal match? What bullshit!

Sloane only played 3 or 4 good games that entire match. Most of the match was Sloane pushing the ball around (shoveling several onto the edge of a line) and Vika playing like crap and missing the kill shot when she actually played a good point. Midway through the 2nd Vika finally started hitting through the ball more and dictating play like she normally would. It had nothing to do with Sloane's level dropping. Then bizarrely the roof is closed for a light sprinkle.

by Anonymousreply 17August 31, 2018 8:01 PM

R11 Of course, I meant at smaller tournaments where her current ranking doesn't warrant direct entry. I wouldn't want her burning calories by going through qualifying!

by Anonymousreply 18August 31, 2018 8:03 PM

Damn, Rafa not looking good.

by Anonymousreply 19August 31, 2018 8:04 PM

Does Nadal have a knee injury?

by Anonymousreply 20August 31, 2018 8:04 PM

Come on, Khachanov. Hold your serve twice and you're up two sets to none. Nadal does look off and his knee is taped. If Khachanov holds his nerve, this could be an upset. But taking out Nadal in five is still the toughest ask on the men's tour, even a hobbled Nadal.

by Anonymousreply 21August 31, 2018 8:08 PM

Oh well, so much for Khachanov holding his nerve. Nadal breaks back. On serve in the 2nd.

by Anonymousreply 22August 31, 2018 8:12 PM

R17 no it was not all about Azarenka. Sloane's movement made her feel pressure so she was pressing on too many shots. Sloane also kept her off-balance by moving her around. There were a number of points in which Azarenka was wrong-footed and could only stab at the ball, leaving an easy put-away for Sloane. She was smart today. Azarenka was not at her best but Sloane's form was pretty decent until she got tight in in the middle of the second set.

by Anonymousreply 23August 31, 2018 8:14 PM

Khachanov is finally showing what he can do against top players. He's playing so much better than in Canada when he gave Nadal trouble but too inconsistent. He's not letting Nadal get away with any fluff serves

by Anonymousreply 24August 31, 2018 8:17 PM

Nadal is returning serve practically from the first row of seats and Karen is still getting aces past him.

by Anonymousreply 25August 31, 2018 8:22 PM

Ugh, Khachanov loses his serve while serving for the 2nd.

by Anonymousreply 26August 31, 2018 8:24 PM

Tease

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 27August 31, 2018 8:27 PM

They are closing the roof. They are allowed to get coaching according to the commentators

by Anonymousreply 28August 31, 2018 8:28 PM

R23 Yes it was. Vika wasn't hitting the ball. This isn't hard to understand. She hasn't been playing confidently during most of this recent comeback. If she's playing near her usual level Sloane is the one constantly on defense. Look at their first 3 matches. That Azarenka drills Sloane (and don't give me some bs about how Sloane has improved).

by Anonymousreply 29August 31, 2018 8:31 PM

Hmmm. I wonder whom closing the roof favors?

by Anonymousreply 30August 31, 2018 8:32 PM

Uh oh. Looks like the wheels are coming off for Khachanov. Will it be Nadal in 4 sets?

by Anonymousreply 31August 31, 2018 8:38 PM

R29 you're delusional if you think Sloane hasn't improved massively since 2013. As I keep saying Azarenka was not at her best but Sloane was decent (and didn't play her best either). Azarenka was never some unbeatable phenom. She's a consistent ball striker but doesn't have overwhelming power and is an OK mover but not great. Sloane kept her off balance for much of the match and was smart today. Gone are the days when she gets swatted aside by Azarenka. Deal with it

by Anonymousreply 32August 31, 2018 8:43 PM

what a surprise that Nadal is down a break on 2 different occasions and still wants the set 7-5. Khachanov got very tight from 4-3 on.

by Anonymousreply 33August 31, 2018 8:45 PM

And as expected Khachanov tanked

by Anonymousreply 34August 31, 2018 8:45 PM

Get it together, Karen!

by Anonymousreply 35August 31, 2018 8:48 PM

Does Shapo appeal to anyone?

by Anonymousreply 36August 31, 2018 8:49 PM

R36: His tennis or himself?

by Anonymousreply 37August 31, 2018 8:50 PM

Khachanov had three breakpoints on Nadal's serve and he didn't get the break, if he is not able to hold his serve he is done.

He is doing way better than i expected but not taking your opportunities is deadly when you are playing a rival whe is mentally toughter than you (and with way more experience)

by Anonymousreply 38August 31, 2018 8:54 PM

I enjoy Shapo's tennis. He's mildly attractive in the young/physically fit way, though he's not beautiful or anything.

by Anonymousreply 39August 31, 2018 8:56 PM

It's very kind of Rafa to wear white shorts today

by Anonymousreply 40August 31, 2018 8:58 PM

Come on Karen!

by Anonymousreply 41August 31, 2018 8:59 PM

R32 Please. Sloane got some very well-timed mishits and that net cord in the last game to help her...nevermind the roof closing.

Their last 3 matches: #1 Vika played horribly and still got to 5-5 in the 2nd #2 Vika played an iffy 1st set but squeaked it out anyway and would've been up 2 breaks, 3-0, in the 2nd if Sloane hadn't snatched a backhand down the line that caught 1mm of the line (lucky) -- Vika proceeded to lose ELEVEN games in a row from there. Yeah, like she usually does (rolls eyes) #3 Today's subpar performance that still should've won the 2nd set 6-2

Suuuuure, Sloane has improved so much. Face it, Sloane's basically a pusher, and once Vika gets confident again the beatdowns will resume.

by Anonymousreply 42August 31, 2018 9:03 PM

Khachanov has gotten tight but he's also feeling the pressure of Nadal's movement. I can see that 1 of Khachanov's favorite plays is to hit an extreme crosscourt angle on his backhand side. That's normally effective against most opponents but Nadal is such an amazing mover he can get back some of those and even hit a winner of his own off of it. Khacheanov is losing patience and feeling the need to press.

by Anonymousreply 43August 31, 2018 9:04 PM

Sloane has definitely improved even over her brief 2013 peak. In the past she would've crumbled, but she held strong in the last match and today after Azarenka broke back. For her, its all about moving her feet and getting to the ball.

by Anonymousreply 44August 31, 2018 9:05 PM

Xisca/Mary is here. She only shows up when Nadal really wants to win, right?

by Anonymousreply 45August 31, 2018 9:06 PM

R42 bash Sloane all you want but she only missed 1 first serve in the first set. That's why Azarenka had trouble gaining the advantage in many of Sloane's service games. In the second set Sloane's percentage dropped quite a bit and she even double faulted on break point. When she doesn't give up on herself, she's hard to beat. Azarenka was frustrated in long points by the number of shots that kept coming back then Sloane would wrong-foot her.

by Anonymousreply 46August 31, 2018 9:06 PM

R42: Vika is taking too much time to get her confidence back. She will be 30 next year, and she seems totally stalled. Yes, she is not playing bad, but she is not playing good either. She is way much better than what she is showing but unless there's improvement soon she could end in this limbo forever.

Sloane is a weird player, she can be very very good (first and part of the second set on the Roland Garros final) but she lacks stamina or ambition to reach her full potential

by Anonymousreply 47August 31, 2018 9:06 PM

R44 She was about to crumble then they closed the roof and saved her Serena-style.

by Anonymousreply 48August 31, 2018 9:07 PM

after a shitty summer, Thiem is into the 4th round lol he awaits the winner of Anderson/Shapovalov which will be a fun match to watch. Thiem-Shapovalov will feature lots of shanks

by Anonymousreply 49August 31, 2018 9:08 PM

Right now, it looks more like Thiem-Anderson.

by Anonymousreply 50August 31, 2018 9:09 PM

R46 If playing at her usual level, Vika thrives on that shit. She's had the best return stats on tour for years and can usually out rally anyone. That's her game! Have you been living in a cave?

by Anonymousreply 51August 31, 2018 9:10 PM

Weird not seeing the Nike logo on Fed’s headband. But I guess they still sponsor his shoes.

by Anonymousreply 52August 31, 2018 9:11 PM

Since Vika popped out that kid and decided food is overrated her game has stunk including her supposedly glorious return of serve.

by Anonymousreply 53August 31, 2018 9:12 PM

R51 she's not going to out-run Sloane and you know that unless you suddenly think Azarenka is the best mover on tour too. Get a grip.

by Anonymousreply 54August 31, 2018 9:13 PM

R47 Yeah, I think all the off-court baby daddy nonsense has really gotten to her. Hopefully she can fully refocus on her tennis soon.

by Anonymousreply 55August 31, 2018 9:14 PM

Khachanov is so fucking hot. Dem legs! 👀

by Anonymousreply 56August 31, 2018 9:18 PM

R54 She doesn't need to. If playing confidently, she'll just out hit her/force an error or close out points by moving forward. She started doing it in the second set but missed that crucial backhand volley that would've given her the insurance break. Oops! Stop pretending that Sloane is consistently good. She isn't. Hopefully Mertens won't let her get away with that lollipop bs in their match.

by Anonymousreply 57August 31, 2018 9:20 PM

Denis with Popsicle.

I wonder if by the time he finishes his career Nadal will have sorted out his underwear

by Anonymousreply 59August 31, 2018 9:46 PM

Rafa is our gay warrior, girls. 🎀

Himself. Does he appeal to anyone on DL?

by Anonymousreply 61August 31, 2018 9:51 PM
Rafa is our gay warrior, girls. 🎀

Why?

by Anonymousreply 62August 31, 2018 9:51 PM

Rafa and his stupid OCD shit! Did you see him arrange the fucking water bottles? I wonder if he's like this in all areas of his life.

by Anonymousreply 63August 31, 2018 9:53 PM

Open your eyes and think 🤔 R62

by Anonymousreply 64August 31, 2018 9:56 PM

Will Shapo and Anderson go to a fifth set?

by Anonymousreply 65August 31, 2018 9:58 PM

Shapo! 🎩

by Anonymousreply 66August 31, 2018 10:03 PM

Khachanov is a typical Next Gen loser. Can't take advantage of a hobbled Nadal. Shame!

by Anonymousreply 67August 31, 2018 10:14 PM

R57 if Sloane is hitting her forehand authoritatively, Azarenka cannot push her around the court. Sloane has a big forehand when she wants to and she used it today. Azarenka lost get over it!

by Anonymousreply 68August 31, 2018 10:14 PM
Rafa is our gay warrior, girls. 🎀

He might well be gay, r60, but he sure as hell isn’t [italic]my[/italic] warrior. I can’t stand him or his brand of tennis. I delight in his every defeat and injury.

by Anonymousreply 69August 31, 2018 10:15 PM

ooh hi Mirka! Don't you have a hot dog cart to devour?

by Anonymousreply 70August 31, 2018 10:16 PM

Khachanov's 3 double faults in that tiebreak sealed his fate. The next gen ATP guys really need to work on focus and mental toughness. Obviously playing Nadal is very difficult but gifting him 3 doubles in a tiebreak is not going to help his cause

by Anonymousreply 71August 31, 2018 10:16 PM

I like Rafa, he is nice to fans, great tennis player, and even nicer human being.

by Anonymousreply 72August 31, 2018 10:17 PM

Well suck on a lemon 🍋 R69!

by Anonymousreply 73August 31, 2018 10:18 PM

Shapo is so fucking ugly

by Anonymousreply 74August 31, 2018 10:21 PM

I wonder if Zverev is pissed that he hasn't played on Ashe yet. Since he's on the same side of the draw as Federer and Djokovic, no chance so far.

by Anonymousreply 75August 31, 2018 10:27 PM

The Next Gen are total pussies. Khachanov up a break TWICE in the second, double faults away the third set tiebreak. Come on, you bunch of fucking wimps!

by Anonymousreply 76August 31, 2018 10:29 PM

but but but the next gen ATP are so much more amazing than the young WTA players!1!1!1!

by Anonymousreply 77August 31, 2018 10:34 PM

Just imagine Shapo's arms wrapped around you from behind. You don't have to see anything, just feel it crushing you slightly as he penetrates.

by Anonymousreply 78August 31, 2018 10:36 PM

Don't hate NextGen - they still have time, have the LostGen - Dimitrov, Thiem etc. - they failed completely

by Anonymousreply 79August 31, 2018 10:37 PM

I hate them all, R79.

by Anonymousreply 80August 31, 2018 10:38 PM

wow Nadal failed to serve out the match on the first try

by Anonymousreply 81August 31, 2018 10:39 PM

R74 Perhaps he's not the best looking, but I still have a huge crush on him. Maybe it's his energy, or maybe it's his hot hairy blond calves.

by Anonymousreply 82August 31, 2018 10:39 PM

Let's not forget Gulbis there, R79. Talk about a spectacular failure.

by Anonymousreply 83August 31, 2018 10:39 PM

I would suck of Khachanov right there on Ashe Stadium.

by Anonymousreply 84August 31, 2018 10:42 PM

erm, off

by Anonymousreply 85August 31, 2018 10:43 PM

R84 Get in line!

by Anonymousreply 86August 31, 2018 10:45 PM

let's see if Karen can double fault this tiebreak away too

by Anonymousreply 87August 31, 2018 10:48 PM

What's going on with audience entering the stadium after the break - i've never seen umpire rushig people to take their seats as often as during US Open.

by Anonymousreply 88August 31, 2018 10:48 PM

Rafa!!! 🧚‍♀️🎾🎀💪

by Anonymousreply 89August 31, 2018 10:57 PM

[R84] He is disgusting

by Anonymousreply 90August 31, 2018 10:58 PM

Well, at least Khachanov made Rafa work for it. He kept it close. Respect for that.

by Anonymousreply 91August 31, 2018 10:58 PM

R90 is Carla Suarez Navarro

by Anonymousreply 92August 31, 2018 10:59 PM

Great match

by Anonymousreply 93August 31, 2018 10:59 PM

R90 sure. More Karen for me!

by Anonymousreply 94August 31, 2018 10:59 PM

That was an awesome match. Much respect to Khachanov for stopping to sign autographs for an extended period of time after the match.

by Anonymousreply 95August 31, 2018 11:00 PM

Karen’s wife is one lucky bitch

by Anonymousreply 96August 31, 2018 11:01 PM

[R92] Who???

[R96] She is ugly as well. she looks like dwarf and he , with his teeth and jaw , like he would need a brain, retarted or something

by Anonymousreply 97August 31, 2018 11:04 PM

Like retarted shark :P

by Anonymousreply 98August 31, 2018 11:05 PM

Has anyone noticed the ESPN camera angles are a bit higher, and have been accentuating Rafa's ever-growing bald spot?

by Anonymousreply 99August 31, 2018 11:07 PM

ugly smile , gig teeth , fuj! what to like?

by Anonymousreply 100August 31, 2018 11:08 PM

It was a great match. Nadal looks thinner (no balding jokes).

by Anonymousreply 101August 31, 2018 11:10 PM

Every time Rafa served we got a good look at his growing bald spot.

by Anonymousreply 102August 31, 2018 11:13 PM

oh c'mon, nobody is perfect!

by Anonymousreply 103August 31, 2018 11:17 PM

I dont expext him to be perfect , but I find him disgusting overall. Bleeee

by Anonymousreply 104August 31, 2018 11:19 PM

Is Venus gonna retire after this? She is 38.

by Anonymousreply 105August 31, 2018 11:28 PM

Poor R97, so desperate to be a hater

Bye gurl!

by Anonymousreply 106August 31, 2018 11:35 PM

[R106] This is datalounge, not a fan site of your russian scooby doo.hahah HE is disgusting. and creepy

by Anonymousreply 107August 31, 2018 11:37 PM

Shapo is deeply unattractive

by Anonymousreply 108August 31, 2018 11:37 PM

Also, yes but he is not creepy, just plain ugly

by Anonymousreply 109August 31, 2018 11:38 PM

R68 who is probably also R44 -- That's a big IF! It's usually as errant as it is good.

The first 3 matches for Vika:

2013 6-4, 6-1

2014 6-3, 6-2

2015 6-3, 6-2

If they had played in 2016 Azarenka most likely would've beaten her even more handily since she was playing the best tennis of her career until the two injuries and pregnancy. So when was all this miraculous improvement? In the 3 months after her return from foot surgery? I don't think so. It's OBVIOUSLY Azarenka not playing anywhere near her usual level. She's 13-11 this year FFS! Get a clue!

by Anonymousreply 110August 31, 2018 11:44 PM

Who else wants Granny V to beat the shit out of Serena?

by Anonymousreply 111August 31, 2018 11:50 PM

But doesn't Venus have some auto immune problem? she might get tired.

by Anonymousreply 112August 31, 2018 11:51 PM

Serena has make up on ffs

by Anonymousreply 113August 31, 2018 11:51 PM

Half her tits are hanging out.

by Anonymousreply 114August 31, 2018 11:52 PM

and did you notice she is wearing an engagement ring?

by Anonymousreply 115August 31, 2018 11:53 PM

r112 the condition is controversial and akin to CFS.

by Anonymousreply 116August 31, 2018 11:55 PM

Serena: love your tutu gurl!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 117September 1, 2018 12:05 AM

I find that gay eunuch that Serena calls a husband extremely goofy and annoying. He doesn't even look like he produces enough sperm or testosterone (I'm sure she has way more than he does) to make a baby. It's probably the coach's baby.

by Anonymousreply 118September 1, 2018 12:08 AM

I agree with .How they make love? OMG

by Anonymousreply 119September 1, 2018 12:11 AM

I doubt they do. Something just seems fake about their relationship. He tries too hard to seem like the perfect (straight) husband. Always checking to see if the camera is on him before reacting. Plus he looks FTM.

by Anonymousreply 120September 1, 2018 12:18 AM

Granny V doing a fantastic job of giving it away. What else is new?

by Anonymousreply 121September 1, 2018 12:22 AM

This match is dull so far.

by Anonymousreply 122September 1, 2018 12:22 AM

Horrible match.

by Anonymousreply 123September 1, 2018 12:23 AM

Their matches are always bad. People need to stop getting so hyped for them.

by Anonymousreply 124September 1, 2018 12:24 AM

They're almost always awful. I stopped watching them years ago. I just checked in quickly to see what was happening and saw V overhit the extremely easy short ball she had. Mistake!

by Anonymousreply 125September 1, 2018 12:25 AM

Yeah, I usually only watch their matches if Venus is winning. So I'll probably be tuning out soon.

by Anonymousreply 126September 1, 2018 12:30 AM

10 UEs out of 12 points in this game so far. Great tennis!

by Anonymousreply 127September 1, 2018 12:30 AM

I thought Venus would have a chance coz Serena turned her ankle...no such luck!

by Anonymousreply 128September 1, 2018 12:37 AM

Mammy Venus sure is taking a lickin’

by Anonymousreply 129September 1, 2018 12:42 AM

R110 again Sloane has vastly improved since that time. She didn't even start winning a title until the summer of 2015. Not sure why you're obsessed with trying to tear Sloane down. She beat Azarenka 3 times in a row this year. Accept it and you'll feel better. No one said Azarenka is playing her best now but Sloane wasn't her best in their earlier matches either.

by Anonymousreply 130September 1, 2018 12:44 AM

At least maybe after this match they'll stop trying to shove this crap down our throats. Maybe? The only match worse than this is Sharapova v Serena.

by Anonymousreply 131September 1, 2018 12:45 AM

Kanepi awaits the winner of Serena/Venus. She's inconsistent and not the best mover but can be quite the shotmaker and has good power.

Basilashvili def. Pella in 4 and will play Nadal next. If he's consistent he could trouble Rafa

by Anonymousreply 132September 1, 2018 12:47 AM

After having set points in the first tiebreak and a mini break, Wawrinka's forehand lets him down and Raonic snatches it from him 8-6

by Anonymousreply 133September 1, 2018 12:55 AM

Granny V is getting spanked by lil' sis' Serena. I so wished she would get that elusive ultimate family win.

by Anonymousreply 134September 1, 2018 1:00 AM

I wanted everyone to know that if anyone other than Venus had been the 16th seed I would have given Serena that spot, but I just couldn't do it.

by Anonymousreply 135September 1, 2018 1:03 AM

How many matches are these two going to play where Venus pretends she hasn't a clue where Serena is serving? Come on.

by Anonymousreply 136September 1, 2018 1:05 AM

Serena looks very good out there and Venus is off hence the lopsided score. If Serena keeps this level of play up, the rest of the field needs to look out.

by Anonymousreply 137September 1, 2018 1:13 AM

Oh NOOOOOOOOO, Granny V is out! Something tells me it was the last time I watched one of her match.

by Anonymousreply 138September 1, 2018 1:15 AM

R137 Maybe because one of them had to play 2 matches in sweltering heat while the other marched her lazy ass out there at 8:00pm every damn time.

by Anonymousreply 139September 1, 2018 1:16 AM

R138 You watched that garbage? Why?!!

Wawrinka has always had trouble returning serve of the big servers. His forehand grip makes it easier to jam him

by Anonymousreply 141September 1, 2018 1:22 AM

Jesus, Chris Evert is horrible.

Basilashvili is also not homophobic (which was a question for someone from Georgia)

by Anonymousreply 143September 1, 2018 1:24 AM

Well R140 if you have to ask, it was the first time I was watching one of their match in real time instead of just watching the highlights after the whole damn thing happened....

I think it's time for Granny V. to retire and have some children with her bf.

by Anonymousreply 144September 1, 2018 1:27 AM

R143 what did Basilashvili say?

by Anonymousreply 145September 1, 2018 1:27 AM

deplorable Isner is through and awaits the winner of Raonic/Wawrinka

by Anonymousreply 146September 1, 2018 1:28 AM

It appears Muchova came back down to earth. Too bad she took Mugu out. We needed her to thump Serena. I guess it's up to Sloane or Svitolina now.

by Anonymousreply 147September 1, 2018 1:28 AM

He publicly supported a footballer who wore a rainbow armband in solidarity with gay people after that footballer started getting far-right backlash.

by Anonymousreply 148September 1, 2018 1:29 AM

R144 If that was only the first time watching live, I'll let it slide. Have you learned your lesson?

by Anonymousreply 149September 1, 2018 1:29 AM

or I guess Kerber or Kvitova

by Anonymousreply 150September 1, 2018 1:31 AM

Good for Basilashvili. I think it's important to give people who come from homophobic countries the chance to open their minds. That's 1 of the beauties of traveling the world.

by Anonymousreply 151September 1, 2018 1:32 AM

Sloane or Kerber are the ones most likely to give Serena trouble. And that's if they play incredibly.

by Anonymousreply 152September 1, 2018 1:33 AM

Verdasco is a diva so he'll enjoy being on Ashe at night but I'll be very surprised if he beats Del Potro. Both of them heavily rely on their forehands and Juan Martin's is bigger

by Anonymousreply 153September 1, 2018 1:34 AM

Coric a game away from convincingly beating Medvedev

by Anonymousreply 154September 1, 2018 1:36 AM

R152 No they just need to play Serena during the day with heat and sun messing with her serve and their chances go up exponentially. Will she ever have to play a day match though?

by Anonymousreply 155September 1, 2018 1:36 AM

Clearly, I spoke too soon on Muchova. She's saved match points and is about to get to 5-4 from 5-1 down.

by Anonymousreply 156September 1, 2018 1:37 AM

Verdasco looks good. He doesn't have much of an accent when speaking English.

by Anonymousreply 157September 1, 2018 1:40 AM

He's the brother in law of Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova.

by Anonymousreply 158September 1, 2018 1:42 AM

Wow Dream 4th round match up between DL Faves Raonic and Isner.

by Anonymousreply 159September 1, 2018 2:10 AM

r159 Raonic is a DL fave or are you being sarcastic? I'm a Canadian who used to watch tennis religiously years ago and got back into it with Shapo and Raonic's rise in the rankings.

I thought he'd be too ugly and boring for DL.

by Anonymousreply 160September 1, 2018 2:16 AM

I'm a Canadian, too, but I cannot warm up to Raonic's game unlike, say, Shapovalov's.

by Anonymousreply 161September 1, 2018 2:23 AM

R160 that was sarcasm, baby! The Isner mention should've made that clear. I actually don't mind Raonic.

by Anonymousreply 162September 1, 2018 2:41 AM

If Raonic can take out Isner I'll be happy

by Anonymousreply 163September 1, 2018 2:54 AM

I love Del Po

by Anonymousreply 164September 1, 2018 3:20 AM

is it me or is Verdasco trying to hid a problem with his foot. At least to get out of the tie before he reveals it.

by Anonymousreply 165September 1, 2018 3:39 AM

that set point in the tiebreak was great stuff.

by Anonymousreply 166September 1, 2018 4:05 AM

what happened with Serena's & Venus's dad? He used to come to all their games

by Anonymousreply 167September 1, 2018 4:26 AM

Health problems. Richard only shows up at Miami now.

by Anonymousreply 168September 1, 2018 4:28 AM

This is Serena's final Grand Slam season. She'll win this year's USO; then go on to the Australian, which she will also win. Then, that's it.

by Anonymousreply 169September 1, 2018 4:32 AM

R169 thanks Nostrodomas

by Anonymousreply 170September 1, 2018 4:36 AM

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Sloane is Jennifer Capriati 2.0. They are lazy one day and lose, mediocre but steady another and beat a good player and then can turn it on whenever and beat anybody. Pam Shriver used to say "Capriati can strike any time any where. You just never know with super talented less motivated people.

by Anonymousreply 171September 1, 2018 4:36 AM

wow Verdasco actually hugged Del Potro and they laughed at something together. Usually he just gives a quick handshake when he loses. He must really like Juan Martin

by Anonymousreply 172September 1, 2018 4:37 AM

Is plastic surgery part of the USTA's retirement package for the American women? Pam Shriver, Chrissie, Katrina Adams, Mary Joe and Kathy Rinaldi are all looking refreshed these days.

by Anonymousreply 185September 1, 2018 9:22 AM

Shapo is a class act, typical Canadian. Humble, nice and down to earth.

by Anonymousreply 186September 1, 2018 9:27 AM

I think Shapo is going to come in to his own looks-wise in his twenties. He may turn out to be suitable handsome actually. He's only 19 and isn't remotely interested in how he looks right now.

by Anonymousreply 187September 1, 2018 11:34 AM

I don't care if Shapo is handsome or not, he has a very interesting game, very enjoyable to watch. I think he'll be a threat next year once he matures a bit.

Interesting to see if Shascha is able to have a comfortable match against someone so experience as kohlschreiber. Anyway it's an improvement to pass a couple of round without suffering, a step in the right direction, now it's time to see if he is able to reach the next level

by Anonymousreply 188September 1, 2018 11:49 AM

Shapo has a gorgeous game. His BH could be soon on the level with Stan's. He'sflashy and likable.

Getting my popcorn ready for Poohey / Sousa. Eye-candy match of the day.

Caroline Garcia's serve technique is hilarious: first she raises the eyes, then she raises the racquet in striking position, and then she tosses the ball.

Aren't you supposed to do all of these things at the same time?

by Anonymousreply 200September 1, 2018 5:33 PM

Vondroussova def. Bertens 7-6(4) 2-6 7-6(1) she is just 19 and won her first title last year indoors. She has a lot of talent. I'm surprised Bertens couldn't use her experience to scrape by.

by Anonymousreply 201September 1, 2018 5:34 PM

R200 the arm raising before thing is a recent change in the last 10 years and it's called an abbreviated service motion. A lot of players began doing it to prevent back problems. Mauresmo changed to that during the latter years of her career too. Jarry also does it off the top of my head

by Anonymousreply 202September 1, 2018 5:35 PM

R198 I like a lot of those players too.

John McEnroe can be such a two-faced bitch. If the umpire had given a pep talk to John's opponent when he was playing him, he would have lost his mind and beaten the guy to death with his little wooden racquet.

by Anonymousreply 221September 1, 2018 6:48 PM

He's a horrible representation for the sport. I don't understand why all of the other guys and commentators seem to want to shore him up. He's a low-life loser head-case always slouching around and pulling on the back of his shirt. Where's that guy who stabbed Monica in the back when you really need him?

by Anonymousreply 230September 1, 2018 6:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 231September 1, 2018 7:00 PM

Federer 6-4 over Kyrgios. Kyrgios made a mistake at 30-30 to approach to Fed forehand and got passed. Then saved sp but Federer prevailed again with a pass

by Anonymousreply 237September 1, 2018 7:06 PM

CSN is more popular on DL but Garcia has been able to beat Sharapova lately. I'm not sure CSN can do that as Sharapova can overpower her most of the time

by Anonymousreply 238September 1, 2018 7:08 PM

so from 3-3 in the first set with 0-40 on Federer's serve, Kyrgios fails to get the break and now is done a set and an early break.

by Anonymousreply 239September 1, 2018 7:09 PM

Sadly Herbert doesn't have a wife like Tarango's or she would have stormed into the court to beat Layani

by Anonymousreply 240September 1, 2018 7:10 PM

R237 Thanks. I googled but nothing came up...should've tried social media. Good to know that Vika isn't injured again and that she wasn't the reason Latisha will lose all those doubles ranking points.

by Anonymousreply 241September 1, 2018 7:10 PM

If CSN were to somehow reach the final against Serena, she may as well give her racquet to one of the ball kids. They'll put up a better fight than her. I've never seen a player's level drop as much as CSN when she plays her (it's about 30% at most). Just awful.

by Anonymousreply 242September 1, 2018 7:14 PM

This is cute

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 243September 1, 2018 7:14 PM

It seems it will be way easier for Federer than expected

R242: She is completely helpless against Serena because Serena is able to dominate from serve and return to serve. If Serena has a bad serving day the story would be different. It's curious because Carla gave trouble to Venus since the beginning of her career when Venus was a top player, but against Serena it's a blood bath after blood bath

by Anonymousreply 244September 1, 2018 7:17 PM

yeah it has nothing to do with CSN's level dropping. She cannot deal with consistently powerful serves and return-of-serves. Suarez Navarro does not have a big serve so if it's not well-placed, Serena can hit winners off of it. Her heavily spinning groundstrokes don't bother Serena that much either.

Venus has always been more inconsistent than Serena and her second serve is more attackable so that gives CSN more of a chance

by Anonymousreply 245September 1, 2018 7:26 PM

R233 But is it the fit of the shirt (which you would think Nike would address if so) that causes him to pull on it or is he just a basket case.? This seems rhetorical as I type it.

Did Kyrgios give up mentally? Too bad no pep talk from ump today!

by Anonymousreply 250September 1, 2018 7:32 PM

i think federer was too kind to let kyrgios to win one game.

by Anonymousreply 251September 1, 2018 7:35 PM

r222 because he gives them something to talk about. Most players are just bland. He's a good material for commentators. I can't stand him, though.

by Anonymousreply 252September 1, 2018 7:48 PM

R245 It has everything to do with her level dropping. She is terrified of Serena. Venus drills the ball at her all day and she's fine. Even after getting bageled by Venus in one match she found a way to get back in it and win. Serena will hit a nothing ball practically to her racquet and she'll hit it five feet wide or long over and over. And if that doesn't say it all, she also doesn't move well...which means lots of tension. It's completely mental.

I'm not saying Serena wouldn't kill her anyway, but she could sure as hell play much better.

by Anonymousreply 253September 1, 2018 7:50 PM

R249: It's obvious that you are trolling me but i don't care, CSN is CARLA Suarez Navarro

by Anonymousreply 254September 1, 2018 7:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 255September 1, 2018 7:59 PM

wow, she's playing at the Armstrong court too! It's been called the upset court!

by Anonymousreply 256September 1, 2018 8:03 PM

oh my, Cibulkova's fucking dress is showing all her body, her fat gut is hugged tight.

by Anonymousreply 257September 1, 2018 8:05 PM

R253 you really seem to hate black women. All you do is bash Serena, Venus, Sloane and Townsend. Weird

but anyway, as has already been stated, CSN's game is ineffective against Serena. She can't handle Serena's serve or Serena's return-of-serve so almost every rally begins with CSN on the backfoot. Serena overpowers her consistently. Venus is not as consistent as CSN which gives her more chances. It's really that simple.

by Anonymousreply 258September 1, 2018 8:09 PM

Venus is old and should fuck off soon, she's not even nice to fans, no love lost for her.

by Anonymousreply 264September 1, 2018 8:26 PM

R258: In fact is very difficult to know if CSN game is innefective because she was never able to play her game against Serena. Serena dominates the game from her serve and her return to serve, so CSN is basically useless against her. The fact that Carla has a weak mentality doesn't help at all

by Anonymousreply 265September 1, 2018 8:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 274September 1, 2018 8:48 PM

R258 No, just Serena. I was simply mocking Katrina for her blatant bias toward the black players (and will continue to). I like Sloane, I just know that Azarenka is twice the player she is and should rarely/if ever lose to her.

Actually, it's A LOT about CSN being afraid. Fear and tension can really screw with one's game (slow reactions, bad footwork, tight swing). Serena is able to dominate partly because CSN is so tense she can't serve, move, or hit a groundstroke normally. It's pathetic. Again, Venus consistently hits harder, deeper, and closer to the lines than Serena, and CSN handles those shots fine--defends beautifully. Serena hits the ball right to her and she flubs it into the stands. What matches are you watching?

The only other time I've seen someone perform worse was CiCi Bellis against Serena at Miami (???). Another case of Serena hitting the ball (not particularly hard) right to her and she was framing them all over the place. This is someone who had just beaten Cibulkova (who wails on every ball and defends like crazy) at the US Open. Nerves, nerves, nerves.

A frown creates more wrinkles than a smile!

by Anonymousreply 288September 1, 2018 9:17 PM

yes, Ivan is fat now! He's sitting down so can't really see but I saw him a few years ago and he has a big gut! His kids all look like him unfortunately

by Anonymousreply 289September 1, 2018 9:22 PM

Ivan got Zina Garrison level fat.

by Anonymousreply 290September 1, 2018 9:23 PM

Ivan makes Melanie Oudin look skinny

by Anonymousreply 291September 1, 2018 9:26 PM

Wish they'd switch coverage to the li'l Diego match. Who is Stefan coaching now?

by Anonymousreply 292September 1, 2018 9:28 PM

tomorrow's schedule is out. I'm happy with it

by Anonymousreply 293September 1, 2018 9:33 PM

You were saying r209?

by Anonymousreply 294September 1, 2018 9:48 PM

Every time a player points to his head to show how smart he is, I imagine his finger to be a gun.

another Zverev slam classic match. Even if he wins this will have taken a lot out of him.

Meanwhile we have late 30s Fed and 30s Nadal/Djokovic seemingly unbeatable against 20-somethings who should be at their peaks or nearing them

by Anonymousreply 298September 1, 2018 10:58 PM

João!

by Anonymousreply 302September 1, 2018 11:08 PM

Go Osapenko! Kick Dopapova's ass!

by Anonymousreply 305September 1, 2018 11:26 PM

Why the audience dont like Zverev???

by Anonymousreply 306September 1, 2018 11:29 PM

Is ESL back?

by Anonymousreply 307September 1, 2018 11:33 PM

Is that rhetorical, R306?

by Anonymousreply 308September 1, 2018 11:35 PM

is Zverev going to flop again? I thought Lendl was supposed to automatically turn him into a slam winning machine!

by Anonymousreply 309September 1, 2018 11:35 PM

LMFAO Zverev FLOP AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 310September 1, 2018 11:40 PM

Nice to see the younger Zverev continue his Slam trajectory.

by Anonymousreply 311September 1, 2018 11:40 PM
LMFAO Zverev FLOP AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

DL tennis thread rule: only one capital letter is allowed to immediately precede the surname “Zverev”. Violators will be flogged!

by Anonymousreply 312September 1, 2018 11:42 PM

Lendl is like what the fuck am I doing here.

by Anonymousreply 313September 1, 2018 11:44 PM

Dopa is leading in the first set 4-1.

by Anonymousreply 314September 1, 2018 11:48 PM

so Coric is the only next gen guy through to the rd16 so far and he'll likely get crushed by Del Potro tomorrow. De Minaur will probably lose to Cilic tonight in rd32

The next youngest is Thiem who is almost 25. ATP has become an old man's game in the last several years

does Zverev not understand that tennis is his job and he should focus on that more than socializing?

by Anonymousreply 318September 2, 2018 12:10 AM

Yikes! Sasha Zverev really does have a huge problem at the Slams. Lendl just came on board, though, so Let's see if by the French next year he can turn around Zverev's fortunes.

by Anonymousreply 319September 2, 2018 12:13 AM

To me in the press conference it seemed like he was saying he is doing even less socializing than usual and he said he never goes to nightclubs. There are barely any photos of him out and about at any tournament, except for the odd dinner. I actually think it is the opposite. I think he may need to unwind more. I think he takes it all too seriously almost.

by Anonymousreply 320September 2, 2018 12:18 AM

I knew Sharapova was likely to win against Ostapenko. Sharapova loves pace and feeds off it. Ostapenko just hits it hard, so Sharapova is loving it. 6-3, 4-2 Sharapova currently. I smell straight sets.

by Anonymousreply 321September 2, 2018 12:33 AM

Sharapova has never lost a night match and she is playing better tonight. Ostapenko is awful though. Way too many misses and horrible serving on her part

by Anonymousreply 322September 2, 2018 12:34 AM

Nishikori in 4 over Schwartzman 6-1 in the final set

Sharapova will likely breeze past CSN to reach the QF ugh

by Anonymousreply 323September 2, 2018 12:40 AM

Sharapova gives a great on-court interview. Sorry for you haters.

by Anonymousreply 324September 2, 2018 12:46 AM

Sharapova gives a peremptory, self-involved, often snide and dismissive on-court interview, trotting out the same glib patter.

by Anonymousreply 325September 2, 2018 12:59 AM

Gasquet has that same tragic bleach blond hair mess that Paire has. What's going on with the Frenchies?

Djokovic's wife is listening to the espn commentary as she's wearing the ear piece...I wonder if he asked her to in order to find out what they say about him.

by Anonymousreply 326September 2, 2018 1:39 AM

Cuntadopa is looking rough these days.

by Anonymousreply 327September 2, 2018 1:46 AM

Djokovic-Gasquet is not worth watching. Gasquet has nothing with which to bother Novak. It's hard to believe at this point that Gasquet was once mentioned in the same breath as Nadal as a future slam winner and #1. Beautiful backhand and he can volley but his forehand breaks down, he's not a great mover, not super fit and average serve.

by Anonymousreply 328September 2, 2018 1:52 AM

Sabalenka likes the ladies, right?

by Anonymousreply 329September 2, 2018 1:58 AM

Sabalenka 7-5 6-1 over Kvitova. Second set beatdown

by Anonymousreply 330September 2, 2018 1:59 AM

next up for Sabalenka is Osaka. That should be another fun power match

by Anonymousreply 331September 2, 2018 2:00 AM

So nobody else thought Borna taking his coach to get a manicure (R243) "to make him happy" was adorable? I kind of wish Borna and Sascha would hang out/train together more often...I think it could help them both in different ways.

by Anonymousreply 332September 2, 2018 2:03 AM

I also always love to remember that Federer thought Gasquet would be more successful than Djokovic, R328!

by Anonymousreply 333September 2, 2018 2:07 AM

R331 Too bad they play each other next round. That needs to be the semi -- the bottom half of the draw is a wreck.

by Anonymousreply 334September 2, 2018 2:14 AM

I want whoever wins that Osaka/Sabalenka match to get to the semis, possibly the final.

by Anonymousreply 335September 2, 2018 2:22 AM

His name is CARLO on DL. Keep up.

by Anonymousreply 336September 2, 2018 2:24 AM

I completely forgot that Pliskova was still in the tournament. Based on her head-to-head with Barty (5 tie breaks in 3 matches) her next round should be a rough one. Sad Kanepi followed by exhausted Karolina or choking Barty. Great! Just what Serena needs so she can yet again cakewalk to the semifinal of a slam. Her draw in 7 of the last 9 slams have been like a tier 3 or 4 tournament. How has she only won 2 of them?!

by Anonymousreply 337September 2, 2018 2:28 AM

R335 Absolutely. Tsurenko or Vondrousova should be nowhere near a semi.

by Anonymousreply 338September 2, 2018 2:30 AM

R335, I would love for Osaka to be the dark horse champion.

by Anonymousreply 339September 2, 2018 2:31 AM

With the bleached hair and the beard, Gasquet has never looked more gay.

by Anonymousreply 340September 2, 2018 2:31 AM

I always found Gausequet kinda hot

by Anonymousreply 341September 2, 2018 2:33 AM

That bleach is a mistake on Gasquet. We can still see you're balding luv!

by Anonymousreply 342September 2, 2018 2:58 AM

No one WANTS to have thinning hair. He's a hot guy. He just needs a lot better forehand.

by Anonymousreply 343September 2, 2018 3:01 AM

Gasquet has never gone public with a girlfriend. He seems very shy.

by Anonymousreply 344September 2, 2018 3:04 AM

R344 except for the one that slipped cocaine into his mouth!

by Anonymousreply 345September 2, 2018 3:10 AM

Uh-oh! Alex de Minaur won the first set against Cilic!

by Anonymousreply 346September 2, 2018 3:16 AM

R345, one of the amazing things about that story was that Gasquet was not the one who said that he had been "contaminated" by trace amounts of cocaine after being kissed by a woman: it was Nadal, of all people, who suggested that might have happened. So, no, I don't think that Gasquet has ever been linked with a woman.

by Anonymousreply 347September 2, 2018 3:18 AM

very surprising development with De Minaur and Cilic. Louis Armstrong might just be a curse to top seeds

by Anonymousreply 348September 2, 2018 3:26 AM
Sabalenka likes the ladies, right?

They’re all lesbians! Woe to you who has not heeded me.

by Anonymousreply 349September 2, 2018 3:27 AM

Alex is cute

by Anonymousreply 350September 2, 2018 3:42 AM

I think Alex de Minaur is the real thing for Australian tennis. Not Kyrgios, not Kokkinakis and God knows not Tomic.

by Anonymousreply 351September 2, 2018 3:43 AM

De Minaur has very fast-twitch muscles and lots of racket head speed on his forehand in particular. He's fun to watch because he's not as passive as Goffin. Interesting that a few weeks ago though De Minaur struggled against Zverev's flat heavy strokes but he's having no problem with Cilic's

by Anonymousreply 352September 2, 2018 3:50 AM

Looks like he definitely could be. I'm still hoping Nick Kyrgios dies in a grease fire. I hate that McEnroe and the rest of them slobber all over him like they used to with Donald Young too who is another complete flame out although Donald is not the embarrassment that Kyrgios is. What a putz.

by Anonymousreply 353September 2, 2018 3:51 AM

I hope Lleyton Hewitt doesn't rub off on him. God, what a jerk.

by Anonymousreply 354September 2, 2018 4:07 AM
Sabalenka likes the ladies, right?

It's a boiling cauldron of lesbian love in the lockerroom!

by Anonymousreply 355September 2, 2018 4:15 AM

Yes, R350

by Anonymousreply 356September 2, 2018 4:23 AM

Does Alex always play like this or is he just more on it tonight? He's really good.

by Anonymousreply 357September 2, 2018 4:25 AM

This deMinaur/Cilic match is crazy. You sleeping bitches are missing some good entertainment!

by Anonymousreply 358September 2, 2018 6:15 AM

With de Minaur out, Coric is the only player under 25 in the round of 16. Raonic I'm not counting since he turns 25 tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 359September 2, 2018 7:08 AM

R359 You mean Thiem? Raonic is 27.

by Anonymousreply 360September 2, 2018 8:22 AM

So Domicakes / KA first up on Armstrong. And Borna / Delpo last up on Ashe.

Does anyone think Basilashvili has a prayer against Rafa?

by Anonymousreply 361September 2, 2018 10:29 AM

Gasquet was considered a rival to Rafa because he was in fact a rival to Rafa in their younger years. There's match on Les petits as when both had 12 that shows clearly why back then Gasquet was a rival (in fact he won the match) and he wasn't in the pro tour. Gasquet was a way more aggressive player when he was young, and his forehand was solid. He defeated Federer very young, but he had several injuries and between that, the fact that he is a shy guy and French federation put a lot of pressure on him, they transform a possible contender for GS into a mess. His quality make him a top player but not a real threat for big tittles.

De Miñaur is in fact the future for Australian tennis (is curious that Australia always rely in inmigrants, De Miñaur in fact is half spanish he has both nationalities and he played for Spain when he was very young). Maybe he doesn't have the big weapons but he is solid and determined, and he doesn't seem to have the kind of personality that cause problems (Tomic, Kyrgios).

I am starting to think that Safin was right when he said that Nadal, Djokovic and Federer dominate because younger players are very bad. The next gen players (excluded the younger, Shapo, De Miñaur, Felix, Tsitsipas) are old enough to threat the big 3, but they are not even close. The only one of them who is a top player is Zverev and his level on GS dramatically drops.

Zverev needs changes, he needs to balance his social life with tennis, and he needs to translate his game in masters 1000 into the GS. He did what he had to do in the first rounds but the first serious obstacle and he tanked big time (and he show in the first set enough signs of weakness to Phillipp read it without a problem). It's not a question of winning a GS, it's a question of not coming even remotely close. He has game enough to be a threat in every surface but he needs focus and pressure himself less

And i don't understand why everybody thinks Sharapova will trash CSN, yes the h2h is 4-1 but with one excepction the matches were not easy wins for Maria. She will probably win but i doubt it'll be that easy

by Anonymousreply 362September 2, 2018 11:37 AM

I remember watching an interview a few years ago, in which Raonic mentioned he’s good friends with Tomic.

Curious.

by Anonymousreply 363September 2, 2018 11:44 AM

I'll watch the replay of de Minaur / Clilc today. I have a lot of time between the Domicakes and Coric....

Does de Minaur have weapons, or is he lil Diego plus?

by Anonymousreply 364September 2, 2018 11:54 AM

R364: He is a lot like his mentor Hewitt, solid forehand, solid backhand, but none of them is a lethal weapon.

by Anonymousreply 365September 2, 2018 11:57 AM

Thanks R365, that's kinda what I thought. BTW, Kei / lil Diego was a very entertaining match, at least the couple of sets I saw. If you could only put Diego's head in Kyrgios's body...

by Anonymousreply 366September 2, 2018 12:00 PM

Yes, R360, I meant Thiem.

by Anonymousreply 367September 2, 2018 2:41 PM

Alex was very impressive last night. I watched through the fourth set and then recorded the rest of it and watched this morning. He never gave up and fought his way back in the fifth set when he was up against the wall. Cilic had to play really well to beat him. If he had been slightly off, he would have lost, but he did a great job of moving Alex all over the court.

by Anonymousreply 368September 2, 2018 4:10 PM

Thiem has gone to the Nadal "receiving serve from outside the stadium" school

by Anonymousreply 369September 2, 2018 4:13 PM

Domi is making schnitzel of KA

by Anonymousreply 370September 2, 2018 4:41 PM

Anderson made a lot of bad unforced errors in the 2nd set. Anderson doesn't seem mentally in this match. I'm calling that Thiem takes the third and wins in straights.

by Anonymousreply 371September 2, 2018 4:47 PM

Nice to see Domi being polite to the ball boy and girls.

Still cannot stop staring at the almighty cakes

by Anonymousreply 372September 2, 2018 4:48 PM

Brad Gilbert is exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 373September 2, 2018 4:51 PM

No, R373, Chris Fowler is the one who is exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 374September 2, 2018 4:53 PM

De Minaur has a much better and aggressive forehand than Hewitt, who's best shot was his backhand. De Minaur isn't a huger hitter but he gets a lot on his forehand for his size. His match against Cilic was the best of the tournament so far. It's unfortunate it was on Louis Armstrong with a much smaller crowd (many had gone home) and so late at night

by Anonymousreply 375September 2, 2018 5:14 PM

impressed with Thiem so far though he has time to melt down.

Basilashvili not consistent enough to trouble Nadal

by Anonymousreply 376September 2, 2018 5:21 PM

What i didn't like about De Miñaur is that he seems to be of Zverev school of smashing racquets. This youngsters need to learn that when you smash your racquet you are showing your rival that you are not in control of your emotions. It's a clear sign of weakness that an experienced player can profit of it

by Anonymousreply 377September 2, 2018 5:29 PM

In the Thiem-Anderson match, who is the older guy with the beard, baseball cap, sunglasses, and tons of sunscreen they keep showing? Is that Thiem's father?

by Anonymousreply 378September 2, 2018 5:34 PM

That's Günter Bresnik, his coach

by Anonymousreply 379September 2, 2018 5:35 PM

Both are pretty exhausting, R374. I might have to add Cliffy to that list as well (at least lately).

by Anonymousreply 380September 2, 2018 5:36 PM

Y'all should watch the streaming versions on ESPN3. No Fowler, no Chrissie. Chanda Rubin is actually an informed, polished announcer.

by Anonymousreply 381September 2, 2018 5:40 PM

Thank you, R379.

R380, I like Cliffy, but I grew up listening to him. Back in the day, he and Fred Stolle were the voice of ESPN when it started to cover tennis matches. Gilbert doesn't bother me. The guy is a savant when it comes stats and he knows his shit. Chris Fowler is a poser who thinks he knows more than he does and argues with the experts.

by Anonymousreply 382September 2, 2018 5:42 PM

Thiem is very good. I'm enjoying watching him.

by Anonymousreply 383September 2, 2018 5:48 PM

Who is this more patient, more consistent Thiem? He didn't play like an idiot today well deserved win

by Anonymousreply 384September 2, 2018 5:51 PM

Thiem has a great game he’s just very inconsistent on any surface that isn’t clay.

by Anonymousreply 385September 2, 2018 5:52 PM

R377 that's nothing new though. Just off the top of my head Safin and Roddick were frequent racket breakers years ago along with others

by Anonymousreply 386September 2, 2018 5:52 PM

Domicakes 🍰🍰

by Anonymousreply 387September 2, 2018 5:53 PM

Thiem only needs to believe in himself, he has enough tennis to cause damage, People tend to forget that Roger and Nole didn't have a winner mentality when they started to play and they were able to improve their mental strength.

Thiem needs to work in his consistency, the results will come and with them the confidence to win on the big stages

by Anonymousreply 388September 2, 2018 5:53 PM

Thiem is thiccc!

by Anonymousreply 389September 2, 2018 5:54 PM

He plays Rafa next, more cakes than a Vienna coffee shop!

by Anonymousreply 390September 2, 2018 5:56 PM

oh Djokovic always believed in himself lol I'll never forget the first time he played Nadal at RG. He retired in the second or third set but afterwards in the press conference he said he felt he was in control of the match and only was losing because of injury. Nadal wasn't happy upon hearing that lol

by Anonymousreply 391September 2, 2018 5:57 PM

Roger is not about to give Novak credit for anything, despite Nole leading the H2H

by Anonymousreply 392September 2, 2018 6:06 PM

I find Cliffy ridiculous and frau-ish. Brad Gilbert at least makes me laugh. I still like Brett Haber plus I think he is secretly gay.

Who is the voice for the IBM Cloud commercials? She is horrible. Is it Natalie Portman?

by Anonymousreply 393September 2, 2018 6:08 PM

just be glad Fowler is gone until Tuesday. He's doing college football this weekend

by Anonymousreply 394September 2, 2018 6:10 PM

R391: Maybe because it was an obvious lie. He felt pretty useless against Nadal that day, and he only was able to defeat Rafa at Roland Garros the year Rafa was a shadow of himself. Not even in his most dominant years he defeated Rafa at Roland Garros.

But to his credit he was able to change his mindset, he was unable to defeat Rafa in tight matches but once he reached his best level in 2011 things really changed

by Anonymousreply 395September 2, 2018 6:11 PM

Rafa que hiciste??????????

by Anonymousreply 396September 2, 2018 6:48 PM

I wasn't expecting Rafa to lose the tie break. He will win easily the fourth but he is showing some signs of weakness, and with his age and his type of game (which even with the changes is very physical) he could pay the extra effort in the final round, specially if he is having problems with his knee

by Anonymousreply 397September 2, 2018 6:50 PM

With this overemphasis on Serena (with all of these ridiculously cheesy vignettes and annoying commercials) it makes it seem like she's finally going to retire after the USO.

by Anonymousreply 398September 2, 2018 7:15 PM

Yeah Nadal has lost something (and not just his hair). I can't quite tell if he's just a step slower or if his hunger and fight has slightly waned. Maybe it's both.

by Anonymousreply 399September 2, 2018 7:18 PM

lol Cliff giving Thiem shit for saying on hardcourts he tries to play closer to the baseline as he was far back today too. Nice that Thiem got invited into the espn lounge for an interview

by Anonymousreply 400September 2, 2018 7:21 PM

Thiem doesn't like it when someone calls him a clay court specialist! lol

by Anonymousreply 401September 2, 2018 7:23 PM

I'm glad Pliskova didn't let that get complicated. No tie break for a change.

by Anonymousreply 402September 2, 2018 7:39 PM

He says he doesn't like being called a clay court specialist but then says he's glad the US Open courts are slow and playing like clay because clay is his best surface...

by Anonymousreply 403September 2, 2018 7:56 PM

R403: But there's a big difference between clay being your best surface and being a clay specialist. Clay is Nadal's best surface, most spanish players in the 90's were clay specialist (their results outside of clay sucked big time)

by Anonymousreply 404September 2, 2018 8:02 PM

Serena must be melting in that outfit. it's humid out there today! I would make her run side to side but this player is too shit.

by Anonymousreply 405September 2, 2018 8:14 PM

She looks ridiculous. Nadal gracious in victory as usual. Love him. Basilishvili or whatever his name is, he was pretty amazing. Great future.

by Anonymousreply 406September 2, 2018 8:19 PM

Serenas really gonna win the whole thing, huh?

by Anonymousreply 407September 2, 2018 8:21 PM

When Serena looks at videos of this year’s USO, she will shake her head at that outfit.

by Anonymousreply 408September 2, 2018 8:23 PM

Serena's outfit is an abortion. Her tennis, however, is sublime.

by Anonymousreply 409September 2, 2018 8:25 PM

Well it can only get better for Kanepi. Unless she loses the match.

by Anonymousreply 410September 2, 2018 8:26 PM

who is playing tonight?

by Anonymousreply 411September 2, 2018 8:29 PM

Why after 90 years of playing on the WTA tour is Serena still the worst volleyer in the universe?

by Anonymousreply 412September 2, 2018 8:30 PM

Haven’t seen Haber yet this open. Is he any thinner? He was a house during Roland Gators.

by Anonymousreply 413September 2, 2018 8:30 PM

Roland Garros

Fuck autocorrect

by Anonymousreply 414September 2, 2018 8:31 PM

Exactly, r408. Who told her that this was OK?

by Anonymousreply 415September 2, 2018 8:36 PM

I blame hanger-on Jill Smoller.

by Anonymousreply 416September 2, 2018 8:41 PM

Stephens v Ertens (?) and Borna v Delpo R411

by Anonymousreply 417September 2, 2018 8:41 PM

R416, the guy who did these outfits designs for Louis Vuitton, of course they are awful.

by Anonymousreply 418September 2, 2018 8:44 PM

I mean, don't she have real friends who tell her she looks ridiculous?

by Anonymousreply 419September 2, 2018 8:44 PM

She looks like elephant in the dress

by Anonymousreply 420September 2, 2018 8:45 PM

Serena can't possibly be under 200 pounds. And the tutu isn't exactly slimming.

by Anonymousreply 421September 2, 2018 8:54 PM

Serena is moving like an oil tanker right now. Can't rally and has to end every point within 1-3 hits.

by Anonymousreply 422September 2, 2018 9:10 PM

What the hell is with that WTF foolery commercial for Beats by Dre starring Serena? Mess.

by Anonymousreply 423September 2, 2018 9:12 PM

Serena needs to play Kanepi's backhand much more. Kanepi is clocking her forehand.

by Anonymousreply 424September 2, 2018 9:14 PM

Her legs are like tree trunks.

by Anonymousreply 425September 2, 2018 9:22 PM

I feel sorry for her husband

by Anonymousreply 426September 2, 2018 9:22 PM

Please stay for Serena's heartfelt performance of Swine Lake post match..

by Anonymousreply 427September 2, 2018 9:23 PM

He'instantly became a couple hundred million dollars richer after their wedding day so don't feel too sorry for him.

by Anonymousreply 428September 2, 2018 9:26 PM

Serena's strategy is to cream the ball every chance she gets because doesn't want to have to run too much. If she gets by Kanepi and faces someone who gets a lot of balls back and makes her run I think she's going to struggle.

by Anonymousreply 429September 2, 2018 9:31 PM

yeah I feel bad for the husband too. She's a Jehova's witness. She doesn't celebrate birthdays and no oral sex either.

by Anonymousreply 430September 2, 2018 9:36 PM

You feel bad for him coz he cannot have blow job? I feel soory for her then coz she wont never feel male tongue ;)

by Anonymousreply 431September 2, 2018 9:38 PM

Serena seems to only be a practicing Jehova's Witness when it comes to holidays and praising Jehova after winning a match. Jehova didn't stop her from riding uncovered cocks before marriage.

by Anonymousreply 432September 2, 2018 9:43 PM

She also doesn't vote.

by Anonymousreply 433September 2, 2018 9:44 PM

She said she sleeps with her dogs in the bed and the baby too and the husband. But he's always away on biz trips.

by Anonymousreply 434September 2, 2018 9:48 PM

She keeps talking about her baby, so boring!

by Anonymousreply 435September 2, 2018 9:48 PM

R432 Right? Hypocrite. Yet another reason to loathe her.

by Anonymousreply 443September 2, 2018 9:58 PM

Kaia played well but Serena’s serve was incredible today. If she keeps serving like this, she will be very tough to beat.

by Anonymousreply 444September 2, 2018 10:03 PM

R444 I didn't watch, but I'm sure Kaia was playing great tennis to lose that first set 6-0!

by Anonymousreply 445September 2, 2018 10:16 PM

Isner/Raonic play 4 sets without a tie break. The apocalypse is nigh.

by Anonymousreply 446September 2, 2018 10:18 PM

If you didn’t watch, then you didn’t see Kaia’s play in the second and third sets. She played well. Serena only turned it around by focusing on Kaia’s backhand. Then she started serving better in the third.

by Anonymousreply 447September 2, 2018 10:25 PM

yeah Kanepi has a huge forehand. Her backhand is much less consistent

by Anonymousreply 448September 2, 2018 10:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 454September 2, 2018 11:03 PM

Isner has had such a bizarre year. He started the year off having trouble beating anyone and then randomly wins Miami. Then he gets to the rd16 of Madrid and RG before reaching the SF of Wimbledon and then wins Atlanta. He's been shit again but now at the USO he's back to scrapping through long sloppy matches.

He's been lucky to avoid the big 3 though. He only played Nadal last year in Beijing but hasn't played Federer or Djokovic since 2015. Murray also has a perfect record against Isner but of course he's been off the tour most of the year and isn't at his best right now. So basically the injuries and absences of the big 4 has allowed Isner to have a few standout tournaments this year to make up for his otherwise horrible record. He's basically the Dimitrov of 2018. Unfortunately with this QF result at the USO, he'll likely make it to the WTF

by Anonymousreply 455September 2, 2018 11:09 PM

He loves sucking up to the crowd.

by Anonymousreply 456September 2, 2018 11:11 PM

Does Isner actually have any fans?

by Anonymousreply 457September 2, 2018 11:12 PM

R457 there was 1 fan in the general tennis thread here when he won Miami. There's also a thread on this site in which some think he's "hot". I don't understand those people but they exist in small numbers

by Anonymousreply 458September 2, 2018 11:15 PM

So basically elderly fraus, r458.

by Anonymousreply 463September 2, 2018 11:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 479September 3, 2018 3:16 AM

Sloane had an amazing highlight reel shot tonight. Mertens is solid but her strategy is predictable. She likes to control the center of the court and be aggressive with her backhand. If you make her run and focus on her forehand, she's definitely beatable as Sloane showed.

I khad a feeling Coric would lose in straights but it's unfortunate he had a hamstring strain. He needs to run to win his matches. Glad that Del Potro conserved energy for deplorable Isner though. I want him to beat the shit out of that repub in the next round

by Anonymousreply 480September 3, 2018 3:18 AM
I like Brad and Pam because they seem like they are actually enjoying themselves (i.e not boring) and know what they are talking about.

so at the final slam of 2018, Coric did the best out of the #NextGen boys by reaching the rd16.

Khachanov, De Minaur, Shapovalov and Fritz really pushed Nadal, Cilic, Anderson and Thiem but fell short in rd32

Zverev imploded again against a vet, this time Kohlschreiber

Medvedev def. Tsitsipas in rd64 and then lost to Coric in rd32.

Jarry took Isner to 5 sets.

Tiafoe lost to De Minaur in rd2

Auger-Aliassime lost to Shapovalov in rd128 when he retired.

Rublev who was defending QF points from last year, lost to Chardy in the first round in 4 sets

by Anonymousreply 489September 3, 2018 5:54 AM

The last thing I want is for the russian whore to win!

by Anonymousreply 490September 3, 2018 9:24 AM

Wow, you mean you're actually sane R482? And not a troll who only gets off on hating?

by Anonymousreply 491September 3, 2018 10:00 AM

I think Sabalenka will be in the final. Girl is on fire. Delpo looked really good last night. Why do you think he shaved his furry legs?

by Anonymousreply 492September 3, 2018 1:41 PM

R492, athletes often shave their legs in case they need to be taped up. At least that's the explanation I've heard some of them give.

by Anonymousreply 493September 3, 2018 3:42 PM

R490 Then you're one of the people I'm talking about -- almost certainly a Serena fan. What's wrong with you? At least Pova hits the ball cleaning. Serena's ground game is a mess if someone can make her hit more than 2 balls. But no worries, she can just SERVE her way out of trouble. Yay! Gross.

by Anonymousreply 494September 3, 2018 3:51 PM

Maria has some of the ugliest strokes in the game, and her forehand often goes missing. Plus, her serve is unreliable.

by Anonymousreply 495September 3, 2018 3:53 PM

Goffin knows his colleagues well!
At least Pova hits the ball cleaning

Which Pova?

by Anonymousreply 497September 3, 2018 4:03 PM

R484 that's 1 of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen written in these threads. To say that Serena cannot rally and that Sharapova has better groundstrokes is absolutley idiotic.

by Anonymousreply 498September 3, 2018 4:05 PM

I mean R494

by Anonymousreply 499September 3, 2018 4:06 PM

So repeatedly being able to drill the ball cleanly, deep and close to lines is ugly? You're confused. Serena mishits or shovels every third ball over the net unless she's completely off balance (one leg in the air) burying the ball 6 inches up the net. Serena's disastrous ground is the second biggest contributor to her wins -- she unintentionally gives her opponents no rhythm. She's ridiculous.

Everybody knows Sharapova's serve is a disaster. It's the main the reason she loses. She's the anti-Serena, in that Serena mostly wins because of her serve.

by Anonymousreply 500September 3, 2018 4:06 PM

I knew you were a Serena fan. Sorry that you live a fantasy world where Serena plays every match like the 2007 Australian Final. I'll stay in reality where I see her regularly overhitting by several feet, getting mishit winners and net cords at the most opportune times (luckiest player I've ever seen) and having atrocious foot work.

by Anonymousreply 501September 3, 2018 4:14 PM

R500 I realize you're trolling but your posts are ridiculous and it's clear you have no clue what you're talking about. We've seen Serena win plenty of long rallies in her career. If Serena only wins with her serve, why doesn't every set she plays go to a tiebreak? She's 1 of the best return-of-servers ever. I suppose you forget about that bagel yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 502September 3, 2018 4:15 PM

Nishikori, in some very well-fitting Uniqlo shorts, is making quick work out of Kohlschreiber.

by Anonymousreply 503September 3, 2018 4:16 PM

back to reality because arguing with a troll is pointless...

Nishikori is predictably destroying Kohlschreiber. He must be thrilled that Zverev imploded the other day

by Anonymousreply 504September 3, 2018 4:17 PM

Will you two agree to disagree or take it offline? Both of you are tedious.

by Anonymousreply 505September 3, 2018 4:17 PM

It's amazing that Serena has been able to shovel the ball on her way to 23 GS titles.

by Anonymousreply 506September 3, 2018 4:20 PM

Yeah, where she most likely shoveled several balls over the net off her frame. She does it all the time. She almost never plays a clean, long point anymore.

Talk about clueless. Do you watch any matches other than Serena's? These bitches DF their way out AT LEAST a game a set with amazing regularity. What do you think that means for the one player who can actually hold her serve most of the time. It means she can win even when playing poorly. It also enables her to play one-shot tennis on the return of serve which makes them DF even more. Do you honestly think Serena would win shit if she had, say, Dementieva's serve? Come on.

"It's amazing that Serena has been able to shovel the ball on her way to 23 GS titles." When you have people choking for you over two decades it can happen. And it's not just that, she's cheated plenty too. Not to mention tournaments going out of their way to save her. *cough* Roof closings against Kuznetsova*cough* She's a big money draw, after all!

I'm not trolling. I'm giving you a dose of reality.

by Anonymousreply 507September 3, 2018 4:41 PM

On an ancillary point, I still can’t believe someone slept with Serena.

by Anonymousreply 508September 3, 2018 4:52 PM

I am the poster who doesn't want the russian whore to win, I am not a Serena fan, I don't hate her. I think she doped. Otherwise, why did she hide in the safe room and called police when they came to test her? hmmm....and she has blood clots....another side effect supposedly...

by Anonymousreply 509September 3, 2018 5:00 PM

R498 I didn't say she couldn't rally. I said she plays ugly, inconsistent rallies. She's the epitome of Brad Gilbert's "Winning Ugly". And I didn't say that Sharapova's groundstrokes were necessarily better (they both can overwhelm most players on tour). Although she does hit consistently harder, deeper, and closer to the lines -- whatever that means to you.

by Anonymousreply 510September 3, 2018 5:05 PM

Say what you will about Brad Gilbert, and he does talk too much, but at least he knows what he's talking about. The guy is a genius at strategy and breaking down people's games. In his career, he way overachieved because he was able to beat many players who were much better than him because he figured out how to hurt them or take advantage of their weaknesses. Unlike Fowler, who also won't shut up, at least when Brad is talking he's giving insight. Fowler just jaws to hear himself babble.

by Anonymousreply 511September 3, 2018 5:06 PM

I like Brad Gilbert. He's a good commentator.

by Anonymousreply 512September 3, 2018 5:08 PM

He is exhausting. As he has been demonstrating all morning including right now.

by Anonymousreply 513September 3, 2018 5:09 PM

Except when he's talking about every sport other than tennis. Which is half the time.

by Anonymousreply 514September 3, 2018 5:10 PM

It's hot today, gonna be hot all week and HUMID. I want to see Serena sweat her ass off sweat in this heat. No way she can run. She would wilt.

by Anonymousreply 515September 3, 2018 5:15 PM

R515 They would never do that to her. She'll be the later day match or the first night match.

by Anonymousreply 516September 3, 2018 5:17 PM

Please keep the discussion, of this most civil of sports, civil.

by Anonymousreply 517September 3, 2018 5:20 PM

R515 I take that back. I wouldn't be surprised if she's scheduled for the noon Ashe match tomorrow for the sole purpose of disturbing Pliskova's serve. Let's see what happens.

by Anonymousreply 518September 3, 2018 5:21 PM

Wow, Kohlschreiber wakes up at the last possible moment, with Kei two points from the match.

by Anonymousreply 519September 3, 2018 5:21 PM

I didn't Keys to crush Cibulkova so easily today. She just overwhelmed her with her power.

Kei with a great chance to reach the SF now. I think Cilic-Goffin will be a long match

by Anonymousreply 520September 3, 2018 5:37 PM

Sabalenka/Osaka could be really good or a total mess. Which will we get?

by Anonymousreply 521September 3, 2018 5:58 PM

The US Open needs a dress code. Serena’s get-ups are awful.

by Anonymousreply 522September 3, 2018 6:01 PM

Classic dress code.

R524 Well done. That made me laugh.

by Anonymousreply 525September 3, 2018 6:19 PM

Sabalenka looks like an Olympic women's swimmer from East Germany circa 1980.

by Anonymousreply 526September 3, 2018 6:25 PM

So far Osaka is the more consistent one. Maybe she does better in heat.

Sousa is a shotmaker but he's not that powerful so he relies heavily on placement rather than pace. Djokovic should get by in straight sets

by Anonymousreply 527September 3, 2018 6:25 PM

They must hate Nole, he's playing in the day again.

by Anonymousreply 528September 3, 2018 6:48 PM

Omg, Osaka is wearing all black in this heat and sun! crazy!

by Anonymousreply 529September 3, 2018 6:57 PM

R520: Keys could defeat anyone on a good day. Unfortunately for her she is unable to control her nerves on the big matches

by Anonymousreply 530September 3, 2018 7:01 PM

Just caught Djokovic getting broken and he was clapping with his racket but I had the TV on mute. Was he clapping for Sousa's shot or was it some sort of fuck you to the crowd?

by Anonymousreply 531September 3, 2018 7:02 PM

The latter, R531.

by Anonymousreply 532September 3, 2018 7:05 PM

The real Novak emerges during matches. The give-you-my-heart-diplomat-post-win Novak is a fraud.

by Anonymousreply 533September 3, 2018 7:12 PM

So what was he mad about, R532? That the crowd cheered for Sousa breaking him?

by Anonymousreply 534September 3, 2018 7:15 PM

That's because he's in the same half of the draw as Federer, R528. So Federer will usually get the night match, except on Sat or Sun, when the day match is considered the prime spot. But they did give Djokovic the night match last Thursday (2R).

by Anonymousreply 535September 3, 2018 7:16 PM

I think he's just angry because it is so god damn hot.

by Anonymousreply 536September 3, 2018 7:16 PM

I find myself pulling for Madison "Tippy the Turtle" Keys this event.

by Anonymousreply 537September 3, 2018 7:22 PM

it might take longer than he wants but Djokovic will likely win straight sets. Sousa doesn't have the consistency or power to hurt him again and again. The only hope Sousa has is that he can prolong points and make the heat more of a factor

by Anonymousreply 538September 3, 2018 7:22 PM

Novak looks like he wants to throw up.

by Anonymousreply 539September 3, 2018 7:28 PM

R526 That is spot on.

by Anonymousreply 540September 3, 2018 7:37 PM

Yes, Sabalenka is not femenine, but curiously i think she is beautiful (in a butch way)

by Anonymousreply 541September 3, 2018 7:39 PM

I'm so grateful that I'm reminded every 5 minutes that Serena is a mother otherwise I'd forget. Should I follow her 1-year old's Instagram and Twitter accounts? Do they have interesting content or are they just endless posts about how great her mother is?

by Anonymousreply 542September 3, 2018 7:39 PM

Sabalenka is quite pretty if she was a man she would be gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 543September 3, 2018 7:54 PM

She makes some stranges noises too ^^^ quite a variety.

by Anonymousreply 544September 3, 2018 7:58 PM

Sabalenka's cranky. Double faulting to lose. What a shock on the WTA!

by Anonymousreply 545September 3, 2018 8:01 PM

What a compelling double fault!

by Anonymousreply 546September 3, 2018 8:02 PM

Sabalenka is going to rage-eat some pussy tonight!

by Anonymousreply 547September 3, 2018 8:04 PM

Why does Nole look like death after 2 sets but Osaka and Sabelenka look fresh at the end of 3?

by Anonymousreply 548September 3, 2018 8:04 PM

Sabby is a scissor sister for sure no?

by Anonymousreply 549September 3, 2018 8:11 PM

Sabalenka is going to eat out Tursunov she is so angry.

by Anonymousreply 550September 3, 2018 8:12 PM

R548, they both outweigh him.

by Anonymousreply 551September 3, 2018 8:14 PM

Schedules out! Serena gets yet another night match while Sloane has to play in the 12 o'clock heat. Fuckers.

by Anonymousreply 552September 3, 2018 8:15 PM

^^^^^ Schedule's

by Anonymousreply 553September 3, 2018 8:15 PM

and? Sharapova has only played night matches. Serena had a day match yesterday. Serena vs. Pliskova is a higher profile match than Sloane vs. Sevastova. These criticisms of Serena are absurd but I'm not surprised

by Anonymousreply 554September 3, 2018 8:17 PM

oasaka trains in FL? I think she lives in Boca Raton according to Wiki. so this heat and humidity is not strange to her.

by Anonymousreply 555September 3, 2018 8:18 PM

oh don't you know Serena is a mommy and can only play when her baby is asleep? This is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 556September 3, 2018 8:19 PM

Djokovic really needs to eat. I can't believe his camp claims he's gained 10 lbs this year compared to last year

by Anonymousreply 557September 3, 2018 8:19 PM

It's baffling that they are giving that doper only night matches

by Anonymousreply 558September 3, 2018 8:19 PM

USTA treats Maria like an honorary American. She does USTA youth events (part of her doping penalty) too.

by Anonymousreply 561September 3, 2018 8:23 PM

Believe me, if Anna Kournikova decided to come back and has kept herself fuckable during the hiatus, USTA would put her in the primetime slot. It's all about ratings. Not that I think Sharapova is all that hot, but there are lot of guys perving on her since she was 16.

by Anonymousreply 562September 3, 2018 8:26 PM

Really? Sloane/Sevastova last year was a better match than Serena/Pliskova here last time.

While she shouldn't have gotten all night matches either, Sharapova has had the second night match twice so she doesn't know how late she's going to start. Serena always has the first match and, of course, her day match was the second match. Keep pretending that they're not protecting her.

by Anonymousreply 563September 3, 2018 8:28 PM

ESPN pays to broadcast these matches so they get a vote in this. Guess who gets higher ratings and sells more tickets? Serena Williams. So they place her where ESPN and the Open itself can make the most money. Federer gets the same sort of treatment for the same reasons.

by Anonymousreply 564September 3, 2018 8:35 PM

I think Goffin is going to take out Cilic.

by Anonymousreply 565September 3, 2018 8:48 PM

Yeah, I understand the financial motivation (mentioned it in a previous post) but are that many people really watching her matches? If so, why? It's probably 70/30: hate watching/actual fans. Anyway, that doesn't make it any less unfair. I'm sure plenty of people would watch Sloane, the defending champion, but she's only had one night match. Maybe she's requesting the noon match? I doubt it, but maybe.

by Anonymousreply 566September 3, 2018 8:49 PM

Oh yes. I'm sure if given the choice, Maria would rather play the noon matches rather than the second night match. Give me a fucking break.

by Anonymousreply 567September 3, 2018 8:55 PM

As someone who's been to Ashe for a number of years during those primetime sessions, I can tell you this: 80%-90% of the audience are clueless when it comes to tennis; they are only familiar with Federer, Serena, and Sharapova, due to the media hype, and would struggle to name more than 2-3 other Top 10 players on either ranking list. They want to see the names they are familiar with. I remember when Murray's match was put on Ashe during a Labor day primetime and people had no interest in it, they were walking around during the points, going out to get hot dogs and beer, chatting about college football, etc. Now, imagine an even more casual TV viewer who did not spend $150 a pop for an evening session...

by Anonymousreply 568September 3, 2018 8:57 PM

Did Ben and Courtney have a simultaneous orgasm when Osaka won?

by Anonymousreply 569September 3, 2018 8:59 PM

r568 tennis fans today are more into watching it on TV and reading articles and on internet than going to tournaments, and I think Grand Slams are very expensive, so it's mostly rich assholes

by Anonymousreply 570September 3, 2018 9:03 PM

R567 That was OBVIOUSLY referring to Sloane choosing the day match. But I was being facetious. Of course she isn't.

by Anonymousreply 571September 3, 2018 9:14 PM

My former boss is one of those rich assholes, R570. I'd love to see him caught on cam in a drunken fall down the stadium stairs to his demise.

by Anonymousreply 572September 3, 2018 9:17 PM

R568 You're telling me that you surveyed 80-90% of the audience on Ashe?! You really should've just watched the matches!

Weren't we talking about the at-home viewership really? R570 has a point. The tv viewers are probably more interested and less distracted than most at the stadium.

And R564, Federer has already had 2 day matches. Serena has had the most advantageous scheduling of anyone. Fact. And I haven't even mentioned the seedings bump. Oops! There I go.

by Anonymousreply 573September 3, 2018 9:26 PM

Somebody get ready to start part III!

by Anonymousreply 574September 3, 2018 9:28 PM

Cilic really bulging today. Must be hung like a mule. Raonic, too, yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 575September 3, 2018 9:28 PM

There's no fucking way that Federer-Djokovic will NOT be a night match.

by Anonymousreply 576September 3, 2018 9:29 PM

I live in europe, i wanna it to be a day fucking match

by Anonymousreply 577September 3, 2018 9:33 PM

I imagine the Raonic appendage has the heft of his first serves.

by Anonymousreply 578September 3, 2018 9:43 PM

Montenegrins tend to be well endowed, so you might be right, R578.

by Anonymousreply 579September 3, 2018 9:45 PM

His ass is flatter than a pancake tho.

by Anonymousreply 580September 3, 2018 9:47 PM

by Anonymousreply 583September 3, 2018 9:58 PM

Well, Cilic sure is proving me wrong.

by Anonymousreply 584September 3, 2018 10:00 PM

Tsurenko just now: "I was asking the God to move the shade faster." That was funny. She was about to collapse at the end of the first and ended up winning in three.

by Anonymousreply 585September 3, 2018 10:10 PM

R582 Nooooo! CSN must lose. Actually, can they both lose? Osaka must get through from the bottom half.

by Anonymousreply 586September 3, 2018 10:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 590September 3, 2018 10:20 PM

In the USA, you can order live sports on Hulu. It covers a bunch of sports channels and ESPN is one of them. Hulu has a free week tryout, so if you cancel within the week, you can watch the rest of the matches for free. No doubt, though, trying to cancel will be nearly impossible to figure out. That way you're stuck with the new plan.

by Anonymousreply 591September 3, 2018 10:28 PM

ESPN + offers 30 days free trial, I think. It covers almost every court from what I've seen.

by Anonymousreply 592September 3, 2018 10:31 PM

Don't let R591 scare you. Cancelling Hulu or any of its add-ons is simple. Just set a reminder on your phone so you don't forget to do it.

R592 ESPN+ free trial is only a week

by Anonymousreply 593September 3, 2018 10:32 PM

r593 That's what it said, too, when I tried the subscription a week ago, then a day later it offered a month free through iTunes. 🤷‍♀️

by Anonymousreply 594September 3, 2018 10:34 PM

R594 What?! Bastards! I did it for Wimbledon and it was 7 days.

by Anonymousreply 595September 3, 2018 10:36 PM

During the interview, Cilic also showed VPL.

by Anonymousreply 596September 3, 2018 11:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 597September 3, 2018 11:22 PM
