Funniest man alive. I've been watching loads of Jiminy Glick interviews on youtube and crying with laughter.
Martin Short

Totally agree, OP. So wish Glick was back on tv.

Great in Inherent Voice.

I watched a bunch of old Glicks too a few weeks back. Funny as hell. One would think it would get old but it doesn't. IIRC, there was an interview/poll where a bunch of comedians were asked who the best, most creative, witty comedian was and Short got more votes than anyone. This was about five yrs ago. Sort of an "insider's" poll I guess
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 31, 2018 3:03 PM |
Hasn’t been funny in decades at this point. Sort of a pathetic creature now
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 31, 2018 3:03 PM |
I’m not a fan of Glick but Martin Short is very funny
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 31, 2018 3:13 PM |
This short video where he talks about being on Johnny Carson along with Bette Davis. His description is really funny.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 31, 2018 3:33 PM |
I absolutely love Martin Short. His Jiminy Glick character is, I think, genius. There are tons of great ones, but I love the way Anderson Cooper can't keep it together while being interviewed by him.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 31, 2018 3:38 PM |
Glick was inspired by our brother, Skip. E. Lowe
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 31, 2018 3:39 PM |
Love him.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 31, 2018 3:41 PM |
He's on tour with Steve Martin. Like them both.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 31, 2018 3:56 PM |
Out of all the characters and memorable jokes, this is the interview where his true character shows through. Such a gentleman.
Bear in mind his wife had passed away two years earlier from ovarian cancer.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 31, 2018 4:02 PM |
I love this scene from "The Big Picture" with Kevin Bacon.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 31, 2018 4:13 PM |
Jackie Rogers, Jr, Looooooved it when he was running for President!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 31, 2018 5:15 PM |
Absolutely agree R13. Martin Short handled himself with grace and class in that situation. When asked about it later Short simply replied, "People make mistakes."
Martin Short is shamefully underappreciated.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 31, 2018 5:17 PM |
I loved the Glick movie, and the special treat in that was Jan Hooks played his wife.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 31, 2018 5:19 PM |
SCTV was such a genius show , why did they ruin it with a laugh track.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 31, 2018 5:40 PM |
Not only a laugh track, but the worst laugh track ever recorded. I always wished I could erase it from the audio, same as I do with the schmaltzy scores of some great Hollywood movies.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 31, 2018 5:45 PM |
Laugh track or no laugh track SCTV was still hilarious, still a great show.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 31, 2018 10:53 PM |
He was part of that SCTV tribe that included John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, Rick Moranis, Andrea Martin, and Catherine O'Hara. They were all supremely talented comedic actors.

That Jiminy Glick-Anderson Cooper bit has always made me like Anderson Cooper so much more than I would otherwise. I like any celebrity who can genuinely take a joke and laughs when he or she is made fun of--so many of them take themselves much too seriously.
My favorite of all the Jiminy Glick bits ever is with Nathan Lane, because Short makes Lane nearly sick with laughter when he starts asking about working with George C. Scott (of all people). The George C. Scott part starts at 4:03, but the whole thing is funny.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 31, 2018 11:27 PM |
That was great. He had Nathan rolling. I enjoy Julia Louis-Dreyfus' interview as well.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 31, 2018 11:45 PM |
Oh my gosh I had forgotten how funny Jiminy Glick's interviews were. Think about it... Alec or Nathan or some other actor knows Martin Short, knows he performs as Jiminy Glick and they agree to be interviewed by Jiminy. They sit down and spend the interview trying to keep a straight face, playing the straight man to Martin. They don't know where the interview is going, but they keep at it. It's hysterical, especially w Alec or Nathan who are smart and funny and quick-witted. They give and get. They throw Short curveball questions, he improvies and tosses back.
Short's created a number of memorable characters and is still at it touring with Steve Martin. Good for him and us.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 31, 2018 11:47 PM |
I love Martin short. He is a gem!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 31, 2018 11:49 PM |
The last time he and Steve Martin were interviewd on The Tonight Show I laughed so hard, the only time Fallon has been funny.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 31, 2018 11:52 PM |
I love that Jiminy named one set of twin sons Matthew and Modine.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 31, 2018 11:54 PM |
Ed Grimley was off the charts funny. His hideous lawyer with the lit heater was genius.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 1, 2018 12:26 AM |
In teen flick Get Over It he stole every scene. I liked it when he put Kirsten Dunst in her place.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 1, 2018 1:06 AM |
I love that Martin Short makes Nathan lane laugh so hard he's crying.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 1, 2018 1:14 AM |
Dataloungers will be happy to know that in the Julia Louis-Dreyfus above, Jiminy asks Louis-Dreyfus about her feelings towards "Viv Vance," and then starts crying when she tells him Viv is dead.

Thank you to the poster for linking the Jiminy Glick interviews, I’ve watched them all and haven’t laughed that hard in ages. I’ve been down in the dumps today and the laughter lifted my mood.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 1, 2018 3:57 AM |
He’s the best. Genius.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 1, 2018 4:15 AM |
I must have seen THE THREE AMIGOS like 50 times when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in 20 years. I'm going to get hold of it next week. Hope it holds up...
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 1, 2018 7:50 AM |
He's devastating in THE BIG PICTURE. The emptiness in his eyes. Hilarious and heartbreaking in equal measure.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 1, 2018 8:04 AM |
It’s a shame his movie career never really took off in the way expected - I know he’s had some memorable roles in hit movies (Franck), but all his star vehicles bombed. So because of that I think he may be a bit underappreciated? Adore him though, and love him with Steve Martin. He seems like a good guy - maybe one of the few comedians who doesn’t wrestle with “demons.”
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 1, 2018 9:44 AM |
Weren't there some posts a while back about him being a real unlikable dick in his private life? I remember reading those posts and being very disappointed because I had always pictured Short as being on of the good ones off camera. I hope it wasn't true, because I really enjoy his work.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 1, 2018 10:31 AM |
The Martin Short/Steve Martin Netflix comedy special is absolutely hilarious! I highly recommend it.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 1, 2018 5:18 PM |
I actually loved him in the movie Clifford.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 1, 2018 5:24 PM |
Father of the Bride was big in our household growing up, so I always loved him in that. I was watching Skip E. Lowe interview a few people recently and couldn't put my finger on who he reminded me of and then I thought "Jiminy Glick!" I had no idea Short had been inspired by him, but it makes perfect sense. Skip was one annoying son of a bitch and always finding a way of talking about himself while interviewing someone.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 1, 2018 5:54 PM |
Another hilarious Glick interview: Goldie Hawn...
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 1, 2018 5:59 PM |
I'd never heard of Skip E. Lowe before and just watched this interview he did with Tony Curtis. The way Martin Short perfectly captures and then accentuates his cadences and his vocal tics is extraordinary.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 1, 2018 6:07 PM |
Classic scene!! Short sends a drink over to a young man.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 1, 2018 6:28 PM |
I also loved him in INNERSPACE. Another film I watched close to 50 times when I was a kid (partly due to the fact I was in love with Dennis Quaid and you see his ass).
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 1, 2018 6:37 PM |
Jiminy: "I'm looking right in your peepers, as Wally Cox used to say to Marlon at night."
Conan: "Was he gay, Wally Cox?"
Jiminy: "He certainly seemed to have a good time..."
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 4, 2018 7:10 AM |
I loved Clifford as well.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 8, 2018 3:27 AM |
So is he a dick in real life or what?
He has said Judd Hirsch was mean to him and his costars when he did "The Associates"..
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 8, 2018 3:43 AM |
He was in one of the rare SNL sketches that made me truly laugh out loud.
He played a snooty emissary for the British Royal family sent to tell a doctor about the rules and etiquette that needed to be followed while the doc was delivering Kate Middleton’s baby.
He was so fucking funny. Bill Hader played the doctor and he kept *almost* losing it.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 8, 2018 3:45 AM |
Glick's interview with Ricky Gervais is my favorite. The look on Gervais's face when Glick says 'We're always playing touch something.' is beyond priceless.

Short is one of the nicest people in show business.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 8, 2018 3:49 AM |
Unfortunately as Glick he always softballs it with the women. He never gets anywhere near as risky as he does with the men like Alexander, Gervais, David and Brooks.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 8, 2018 3:57 AM |
He should interview Lena Dunham.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 8, 2018 4:06 AM |
His autobiography is wonderful. Best version is the audiobook- hearing him do characters and impressions is fun. Lot of sadness in his life, but what an amazing career in the US & Canada.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 8, 2018 5:36 AM |
I have heard over and over what a self-important nasty character he is in real life.
I imagine only Judd Hirsch has fewer friends. Now there's someone everybody loathes.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 8, 2018 5:47 AM |
At 62 he stands alone in the comedy firmament, adored by Hollywood’s elite as the funniest, nicest, best of them all.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 8, 2018 5:50 AM |
Some of his interviewees either don't get the joke or play it completely straight. Like, Mel Brooks seems genuinely nonplussed throughout his interview and even annoyed by the hilarious "What's your beef with the Nazis?" question.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 8, 2018 9:27 AM |
The Larry David one's great. He really gets under his skin.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 8, 2018 9:30 AM |
So is he nice or when you stick a thermometer up his butt does the mercury freeze?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | September 8, 2018 9:50 AM |
r62 So funny. Probably the best Glick interview. I think you can see genuine mutual admiration there, too.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 8, 2018 9:51 AM |
He doesn't bring up Skip E Lowe as an influence but it's an impeccable imitation of the guy. Lowe had a very cheap cable show in LA but he had the most amazing guests but that most people had forgotten about. People like Jean Howard, Vincent Sherman, Anita Page and Ruta Lee. People that I knew of but I doubt many others knew of them.
In fact I discovered Glick because I was reading up on Lowe and he was called the interviewer on whom Glick was based which then brought me to Short's character.
His second Seinfeld is fabulous and he digs into him in a way he would not with a number of people. Seinfeld goes along with it as a good sport but it's pretty cutting.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 8, 2018 10:12 AM |
Before Glick, he appeared as Skip E. High on Ed Grimley.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 14, 2018 11:11 AM |
He channels Skip E. Lowe brilliantly. I randomly came upon some Skip E. Lowe interviews. I think there was one with Piper Laurie in the early 90's and he was such a rude cunt and kept interrupting her. He seemed like a royal asshat. I find Short's Glick far more entertaining with just the right amount of cringe.

I've been watching Jiminy Glick episodes today and have been in stitches. I'm happy to see how beloved Martin is here. There was a thread asking which celebs DL overwhelmingly loved and I think we can add Martin to the list!

SNL should only have had the plethora of comedic talent SCTV did . Martin Short is one of those actors who, when your watching some blah movie and he walks into a scene, you immediately smile because you just know hes going to make you laugh.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | February 8, 2021 10:15 PM |
He is hilarious and I noticed only two "personalities" that just didn't get him..namely the first Seinfeld interview where Jerry tries to top Jiminy and then the diva, Sharon Stone with her "don't touch me." One can tell the camera lens was "altered" when it came time to show her face.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | February 8, 2021 10:33 PM |

The funniest Jiminy Glick interview for me is with Nathan Lane, when Jiminy notes Lane had worked in a play with George C. Scott and asks if he was a "drunkie" who "swerved when he walked across the sage." Lane laughs so hard he has to wipe tears away from his eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | August 23, 2021 9:43 PM |
