What's the difference between baby blue and powder blue?

Well?

by Anonymousreply 29August 31, 2018 2:25 AM

I always think of powder blue having more grey to it than baby blue.

by Anonymousreply 1August 28, 2018 2:11 PM

I think so too - powder blue is lighter, closer to white - baby blue is more of a blue, maybe a little yellow mixed in with it to make it warmer.

by Anonymousreply 2August 28, 2018 2:13 PM

Powder blue is more powdery.

Color has three components: hue (the dominant wave length of light), value (lightness or darkness), saturation (or “chroma” - brilliance or intensity of color)

White and black (grey) are added to the color to reduce the color’s saturation for stuff like paint. For light saturation works on a scale based on how much or how little other hues are represented in the color.

Baby blue is a pastel - which usually means that it has a low saturation.

Powder blue - usually has a lower value.

Baby blue is more babyy

by Anonymousreply 5August 28, 2018 2:33 PM

Baby Blue is probably a nicer color than Blue Baby.

by Anonymousreply 6August 28, 2018 3:05 PM

Depends on the baby.

r4, could you please pick out some paint chips that illustrate what you're telling us? Thanks.

My balls

One is a micro-aggression, the other one is not.

by Anonymousreply 11August 30, 2018 6:13 PM

I think you'll be happier with turquoise.

Various blues (may need to view full picture to see baby blue, at the top).

I must be cooler blind as Eton blue looks green to me.

by Anonymousreply 14August 30, 2018 6:22 PM

Powder Blue is the color of a 1954 Cadillac. Baby Blue is not.

by Anonymousreply 15August 30, 2018 6:28 PM

They call it a greenish blue. Why not a blueish green, beats me.

Is that why you can't find your beer?

by Anonymousreply 17August 30, 2018 6:31 PM

I like Eton Blue more than the rest. But my favorite color is green.

Some colour names are arbitrary. It really depends on who is using the terms. The names on paint swatches are some of the most "interesting".

Tell me about it. I painted one of my bedrooms in a color identified as "Feng Shui." What color would feng shui evoke?

by Anonymousreply 20August 30, 2018 6:34 PM

Interesting, this coming up today. I just bought a couple of dinner plates that are nominally "Midnight Blue." But the manufacturer actually used two different colors. The one I prefer looks more like Duke Blue or Oxford Blue below. The one I bought looks like Majorelle blue. I'm trying to decide if I want to send them back. They're close, but they're not exactly what I want. This is from Replacements, Ltd. The dishes haven't been made since the 1980s.

Eton Blue looks a lot like Cambridge Blue.

R20 I am guessing Feng Shui is grey brown.

by Anonymousreply 23August 30, 2018 7:26 PM

I like blue.

by Anonymousreply 24August 30, 2018 7:34 PM

So, powder blue is just a lighter version than baby blue?

by Anonymousreply 25August 30, 2018 8:22 PM

Don't forget Carolina Blue.

I don’t find babies look blue at all. Perhaps if they’ve been strangled, the lips might be a little blue. Is that it?

by Anonymousreply 27August 30, 2018 8:25 PM

Carolina blue, as least the lighter version of it, looks like baby blue to me.

Actually, it's sort of a light green.
