Leontyne Price- back in the day when diva was applied to women (not men) of supreme talent and artistry who demanded respect and support for their art- in other words the same reverence as men of great artistic achievement to which the word diva was never applied. Now a no-talent by virtue of celebrity of either sex can be a diva. The word has lost its cache.

I can't find the pic to corroborate the story, but I know it's somewhere floating around in the WWW. Flashback to the mid 1980's. Diana Ross is riding along some European city street in a stretch limo with her soon to be new husband, Arne Naess. The paparazzi are following them on scooters and they're being as annoying as ever, trying Miss Ross' patience. The limo cruises along the street to a stop light and when it stops, one of the rear doors flies open and out jumps Diana Ross dripping in fur and jewels, evening gown. She proceeds to take off her stiletro healed shoe and uses it to repeatedly pound one of the paparazzo in the head with it before losing her footing and falling onto the street directly behind the limo. That paparazzo managed to get the pic of her sprawled out on the ground and she STILL looked glamorous.
