Did Precious really get hurt on her way down into the pit?

Or did Catherine Martin just say that as leverage with Jame Gumb?

I always thought it was Catherine trying to trick him.

Starling: “Catherine you’ve got to be quiet, now shut that dog up.”

Catherine: “No, don’t you leave me here you fucking bitch, no!”

Per the book, Precious was fine. Catherine couldn't bring herself to hurt her and in fact got very attached to her. She kept the dog after she was rescued, even had her in the hospital with her.

A sweet little love and rescue story in the midst of all that horror. I'm teary-eyed just thinking about it.
