Ty was a USMC Aviator during WW2, and after the war, he piloted a plane to Central and South America on a 6-week Goodwill Tour, with his bestie César Romero. Maybe he needed an interpreter.

Featuring: Jane Wyman and cringe worthy borderline racist commentary from Ruta Lee (in a ridiculous hat). I really miss Peter Grave's soothing voice.

Desi Arnaz? What’s the scoop?

OK, movie fans, I can't bring the name to mind...

Besides Romero and Power, that's Darryl Zanuck on the far right.
But I'm blanking on the 4th man. Pretty sure he's a director. Is it Howard Hawks?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 20, 2018 5:32 AM |
Yes, Hawks.
R16, in an interview with Boze Hadleigh, Cesar admitted that, after much pestering by him, his pal Desi allowed him to "take care" of Desi, just once.

Romero had everything. And he was gorgeous but in a off-beat way. This is my favorite pic of him and one of my favorite photos of any star.

Thanks, R18.

My grandmother figured out I was gay way before anyone else even myself. She would talk to me about how pretty Tyrone Power was and how I would grow up to be as pretty as he was.

Many of these bi or gay stars in Hollywood were hiding in plain sight. Since homosex didn't exist people didn't talk about it, but Mr. and Mrs. Tout le Monde knew the score. Artists in the teens through the 30's were wild and it wasn't until the 50's that people seemed too make an effort with the closet and publicity beards, wives, etc.

Cigarettes used to be wider and, therefore, looked sexier.
Pity that Tyrone tried so hard to look butch and fought his innate prettiness.
NB. Pretty boys don't age well.

Here's an interesting clip of Romero talking about the trip that he and Power made at the studio's request to Central and South American right after World War II. He mentions meeting Juan and Evita Peron.

From 1989, Romero answers questions at a "Happy Birthday Hollywood Party.
Lovely how he talks about the movie colony back in the day and the great private parties that people gave.
His example is a call he got from Mrs. Basil Rathbone who told him she was giving a small party, 20 guests, for Cole Porter. White Tie.

They costarred in "Captain from Castile," (1948), with Cesar really hot as Hernan Cortez.
