Are there any half way decent colleges on Long Island?

All I've ever heard of is Hofstra.

Stony Brook?

by Anonymousreply 1August 19, 2018 12:26 AM

No, OP, but New York is a large state with plenty of other places where you can go to school.

Kay Kyser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge?

Stony Brook is fine. Don't be snobs.

Stony Brook has a very good philosophy department.

Stony Brook used to have a very decent political science/government department. Maybe it's lost its lustre. It's still probably better than Hofstra.

Adelphi

Hofstra is way better than it was when I went there from '77-'81. Fine Law School, drama dept, Business and I beleive they now have a medical school.

I believe Adelphi is one of their "good" ones. My cousin had wanted to go, but she instead ended up at one of the CUNY ones.

NYU has buildings in Brooklyn which technically is part of Long Island.

Is there still CW Post?

by Anonymousreply 15August 19, 2018 9:36 AM

Brooklyn Poly Tech

by Anonymousreply 16August 19, 2018 12:22 PM

Many years ago CW Post was the threat held over our high school heads: if we didn't get our grades up and score well on the Regents, we would have to go to CW Post. I think the idea was that the school accepted everyone. In any case, it was a powerful threat.

by Anonymousreply 17August 19, 2018 1:26 PM

I had no idea Brooklyn Poly Tech was eaten by NYU. My nephew went from Upstate New York to go to CUNY City Tech which his also in Brooklyn. He loved it and his first job with a BS was 90K a year. That's impressive I think. Fuck NYU.

NYU is halfway decent? Since when?

by Anonymousreply 21August 19, 2018 2:05 PM

Does Hudson University have any satellite campuses on L.I.?

by Anonymousreply 22August 19, 2018 4:49 PM

Adelphi isn't that great—their acceptance rate is even higher than Hofstra's. Brooklyn and Queens Colleges are more selective, not to mention cheaper.
