Really? Bravo? Aside from bad habit RHONY, I’ve abandoned that sad little cocaine dream of a network.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 18, 2018 3:35 PM |
Who's watching? I was entertained by the first episode.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 27, 2018 12:23 PM |
I quit Bravo a couple of years ago and don’t have any interest in going back. Contributing to high ratings for human trash compactor Andy Cohen and human trash [all the housewives and only-technically-not-porn-star reality stats] is not on my to do list.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 27, 2018 12:28 PM |
It's enjoyable as a low-rent American Crime Story
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 15, 2018 6:52 PM |
And why are you on this thread, r3?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 15, 2018 6:59 PM |
It does look interesting in a glossier version of a Lifetime movie sort of way.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 15, 2018 7:37 PM |
It's based on a true story & I'm enjoying it.
The guy is a true sociopath.
I also desperately want to live in their beach house.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 15, 2018 8:03 PM |
Very entertaining
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 28, 2018 9:33 PM |
Much as I love Eric Bana...
No. Just no. The protagonist is too stupid to live; there is no dick on earth for which I would sacrifice myself and my family. How many scripts about rich, naive, multi-married, desperate-for-a-man losers who fall for sociopaths can the market sustain?
This mess could have been told in a two-hour format. There isn't enough drama to warrant a limited series.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 29, 2018 2:13 AM |
It's extremely trashy.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 29, 2018 2:23 AM |
I am continuing to watch but it’s gohng down hill and yes, trashy. I’m especially disappointed because I think Julia Garner is phenomenal in Ozark, but she’s ruining it all for me with this role
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 29, 2018 2:31 AM |
Out of curiosity I googled the whole real life story and it's absolutely crazy. I probably shouldn't divulge anymore in case anyone is trying to avoid spoilers.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 29, 2018 2:33 AM |
I'm impressed at how true they're staying to the podcast. I've only caught a few changes.
My partner didn't listen to the podcast and was bitching about the actresses who are playing the daughters. He can't stand their voices. I had to inform him that the real life daughters sound even WORSE with that annoying O.C. vocal fry.
The grandmother is fucking NUTS. Seriously, she's as fucked in the head as John. She's actually coming across better in the series, and I think that's due to Jean Smart being such a charismatic actress.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 29, 2018 2:41 AM |
I would do whatever it takes to keep Eric Bana's cock in my bed!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 29, 2018 2:43 AM |
So Connie Britton passed on the final season of Nashville and signed on to do this dreck first. Interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 29, 2018 2:53 AM |
Is this the same Dirty John profiled in the LA times in 2017? Fascinating story.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 29, 2018 2:53 AM |
It’s a misogynist’s dream. Every single female character is annoying as fuck. Attractive wealthy middle aged business woman who’s already been married 4 times is so desperate for a mate she trolls online. The daughters are whining, entitled, and have the baby voices they think men like. Grandma is a man’s woman all the through.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 29, 2018 2:55 AM |
R16 yes it's the same story. R17 To be fair, the show is based on a true story
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 29, 2018 2:59 AM |
I listened to the podcast when it came out. Didn’t feel too bad for the lady. A real dumb ass.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 29, 2018 3:28 AM |
I've just finished reading the LA Times' feature, all six parts.
JFC!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 29, 2018 6:58 AM |
The grandmother is a fucking loon.
There's no way in hell I'd associate with the man who murdered one of my daughters.
No wonder Connie's character is a mess.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 29, 2018 1:14 PM |
Why did they turn the oldest daughter into such a shrew? I found her a tag annoying on the podcast (the SoCal vocal fry), but she meant well. In. Bravo land, they couldn’t resist portraying her as a Real Housewife wannabe.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 29, 2018 2:31 PM |
Where did the couple live? I really love the house by the water. It's not on the beach per se but on what looks like an inlet.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 29, 2018 2:38 PM |
Why does Connie Britton keep getting work?
Shes a god-awful actress.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 29, 2018 3:30 PM |
Shut your whore mouth R24 ! She's one of the best out there.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 29, 2018 3:34 PM |
Seriously r24, begone with that shit! Tami Taylor is one of the best out there right now.

Loving this show, knew nothing about the story,
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 29, 2018 4:26 PM |
R25 & r26 used to be big fans of Morgan Brittany too.

Watched two episodes and bailed. Might be a true story but the presentation just wasn't interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 29, 2018 5:48 PM |
Why did Connie Britton leave 911?
Did she have drama with Ryan Murphy?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 30, 2018 4:09 AM |
Damn Connie for foisting 911 with Jennifer Love Hewitt!!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 30, 2018 4:23 AM |
This damn series is getting so much press
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 30, 2018 4:29 AM |
I'm only here because I started another thread on the case itself but got directed here. It just bugs me that everybody behind this show and the podcast pretends this is just a cautionary tale about narcs and sociopaths. The real Debra has even complained that there has been a lot of "victim blaming."
Lady. You have problems. You have a chip missing. A few chips. The facts don't support any other conclusion.
And the mom/grandma. That's not radical forgiveness. That's vanity, self-indulgence and egocentricity taken to a toxic extreme, and it's also misogyny, all sugar-coated by christianity. It is no kind of authentic christianity. It's - I don't have to deal with my shit if I "forgive" the asshole who shot my daughter. The whole forgiveness routine is sweeping things under the rug by any other name. That poor, dead daughter. What a fucking legacy.
Connie Britton is a good actress but I think also has a look that everyone on the west coast up to northern New Jersey and parts south identifies with. Good-looking but tan and weathered, tons of beachy blonde hair. The look so many moms out there strive for, and the clothes as well. The only place that look isn't a staple is New York City.

Just finished binge-watching the first five episodes (OnDemand).
The series was filmed in Balboa/Newport Beach ($$$$$$$).
While watching the series, the similarities between the lead character's personality faults and the OC's SB's personality faults (denial) are interesting. (SB may have known DB was effing around on her, for years. Yet, she choose to deny the reality of the situation in order to keep up the image. SB is very wealthy via her family's connection to I.Magnin; she's mentioned this several times throughout the OC series.)
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 30, 2018 10:51 PM |
I listened to the podcast and Connie Britton is PERFECT. Eric Bana doesn't fit my mental pic of crazy John but so far it's well done!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 30, 2018 10:57 PM |
R35 again the daughters are shown as annoying because they WERE! if you listened to the podcast they were super vapid so cal chicks.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 30, 2018 11:00 PM |
What’s R34 babbling about?? What’s the OC’s SB’s DB??
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 30, 2018 11:25 PM |
Real Housewives of Orange County and a person on the series, Shannon Beador. I couldn’t figure it out either.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 31, 2018 12:02 AM |
R36
They might be super vapid but they're smarter than their mom. The daughters had John's number long before their mom.

After Dirty John concludes on Bravo, Oxygen their sister network is running a special with the real life people meant to compliment the series - Dirty John, The Dirty Truth - Airs January 14th
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 31, 2018 8:19 PM |
I really enjoyed the series. Eric Bana still looks good. I wonder if Brad Pitt is still bitter to this day. What an ego booster to turn down Brad Pitt, the #1 person straight guys said they'd go gay for.

by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 10, 2019 10:13 AM |
Could someone give a very brief synopsis of this show?
I want to watch it from the beginning, but only if it's worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 10, 2019 10:14 AM |
Connie Britton plays a dingbat with a successful design business in Long Beach, CA that falls far a good looking and charming man . She gets married after 2 months regardless of the protest of her children. It turns out John has a long history of drug abuse, cons, abuse, grifting that Connie slowly realizes. Things escalate as she tries escape. Based on a true story/podcast. It's a higher budget Lifetime movie mini series basically.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 10, 2019 11:50 AM |
Well if Connie Brittin is in it, it can't be all bad.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 10, 2019 11:54 AM |
Thanks, R46. That was perfect!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 10, 2019 3:35 PM |
The real woman was on today's Dr Phil.
She spoke intelligently as opposed to the affected way Brittin played her.

The finale is this Sunday.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 10, 2019 10:12 PM |
I don't think that Eric Bana portrays "John" as enough of a bad guy.
Sometimes, I actually feel sympathetic towards his character, and I don't think that I should.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 13, 2019 9:11 PM |
It's not because you want to fuck him R51?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 13, 2019 10:08 PM |
That too, R52. ;o)
But no, I'm talking about his acting.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 13, 2019 10:11 PM |
I couldn't stand Brittons character, even if it was based on a real person, she was such an air head. The eldest daughter and Eric Bana were the best thing about the show.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 14, 2019 9:46 PM |
I watched the Oxygen documentary after last night's finale. I think Connie Britton captured the real woman's speech and mannerisms perfectly. The real Debra missed red flags a mile high and a mile wide. Plus the documentary talks about multiple other victims, including a Brazilian woman who was a successful romance novelist, who he convinced to (almost) transfer $37 MILLION into a US account in his name! A friend of hers intervened at the last second.
The two daughters were also interviewed, with the older one in shadow. The younger daughter is kind of a big girl, and was lucky she was able to fight him off. Very compelling story - AMAZING how his guy was able to work the system and elude the law after doing so much damage!!
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 14, 2019 10:07 PM |
Damn. That was some cray s##t.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 30, 2019 3:44 AM |
I’d like to learn more about John. I hope someone is further researching his life and writing a book. I want to know the real reason he got the nickname Dirty John in college. That was never revealed.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 30, 2019 5:31 AM |
I don't get it.....what is so dear about John?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 30, 2019 11:39 AM |
The complaints about the characters are too dumb are silly as this is a true story. People do dumb things all the fucking time, we are flawed creatures.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 10, 2019 5:46 PM |
I don't think people "get" how these actors NAILED the "O.C." vibe- the mundane, shallow, air brained mentality of it- they characters were not DUMB, just very, very O.C./ SoCal...
They NAILED it and nailed the nasal vocal mannnerisms, accents, etc...
by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 10, 2019 6:02 PM |
And if you listen to interviews of the real life people- they really do sound like this-
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 10, 2019 6:13 PM |
I just binged watch it over the last week. Debra is a fucking idiot, but the show does a decent job of explaining how she developed the type of personality that would take in this loser, then take him back after learning what a menacing, violent piece of shit he was. Her poor family. They must have been at a loss. I had a somewhat similar experience with a friend of mine, a straight woman who gave up her marriage to be with a narcissistic psychopath. He, too, did the similar things as John Meehan did. He was all charm at first, very attentive, very complimentary. He gave her everything she was missing from her husband. She divorced, caused untold problems with her family and friends, all to be with this guy.
He was a psycho stalker. When she and I would go out for the evening, he'd call non-stop about every 20-30 minutes. One night, I'd had enough and I finally grabbed her phone, told him we were doing the same thing we were when he last checked 20 minutes ago, told him not to call anymore, hung up on him, and confiscated my friend's phone for the evening. He called another 15-20 times that night. I just kept hitting "reject" when his calls came in. She was a mess by the end of the night, begging for her phone back, telling me he'd be angry. She looked scared. I told her she needed to get help and get out of that relationship. But of course instead she bought a townhouse and moved this loser in.
She lost touch with all her friends, and her family pretty much wanted nothing to do with her. She finally extricated herself from this creep after about 3 years. I don't think she's ever been the same person since. Once after she broke up with him, we were out at a bar and he showed up. Surprised us all. I had a verbal altercation with him. I asked the bar owner to ask my friend's ex to leave, which the bar owner kindly did because he had witnessed the group of us sitting there having a good time until Mr. Stalker came in.

The finale was shocking and anti climactic at the same time, just like in real life. Glad I avoided reading about the real life case before watching. It's basically a guilty pleasure type watch.

Interesting r70. I hope they show how Dan and the new wife antagonized Betty and what a creep Dan could be. The made for TV movie didn't show that enough.

Why did Connie Britton and the grandmother have mid-western accents if they lives in newport beach/la?

I just finished watching this. The mother was so vacuous I could barely watch. I was yelling at the TV calling her dumbass. Unbelievable. How she ever had a successful business is beyond me.
And the daughters...ugh
But mostly, what a scary, scary man Dirty John was. Too bad his best man and friends didn’t step up and warn his poor first wife about him.

[quote]What’s the difference between Long Beach and Newport Beach?
Long Beach is nice, but very low-rent (for California) compared to fancy Newport Beach.
[quote]And the difference between LA women and Orange County women?
Dangerous to generalize, but Orange County is much more Republican. And has even less culture than LA.

There is nothing intelligent about that woman.
That John got a second date means she thinks with her pussy, not her brain.
