Alec isn't a closet case. I read his book. He's very open about loving the gay men who mentored him while he was a young actor and on a soap. He says one once attempted to sleep with him and he regrets now being so harsh in rejecting him. And even wonders why he didn't experiment just to see what it would be like. That's the mark of a true man: he's not some phobic insecure freak. He just appears to know what he likes and it's women.

He has given serious quotation to press stating that he was consciously & emotionally in love with Belushi (John) but the heterosexuality/normativity and drug addiction on both their parts got in the way of their relationship. Iirc the DL poster who brought him up (in an ancient thread) mentioned that he saw Spade having a spat with a man clearly his bf (or male fb) at the time, outside on the lawn at one of Adam Sandler's house parties. Spade also has admitted to "a serious crush on" Ellen DeGeneres and "being the last to know" she was lesbian (they made fast close friends with each other back in the early-mid-'90s when on a short comedy circuit tour).
