Linda Hunt

I've always been intrigued by the pint-sized powerhouse. What think you, DL, of this pixie? Love the booming, authoratative voice coming out of that small frame.

Remember her as Billy Kwan in The Year of Living Dangerously? And she's never gotten her teeth fixed. Brava, girl.

Has anyone met her?

HOOPER!!!

by Anonymousreply 1August 17, 2018 11:20 PM

Omg, it's Edna Mode!

by Anonymousreply 2August 17, 2018 11:22 PM

It's a MAN, baby!

by Anonymousreply 3August 17, 2018 11:23 PM

That's not Linda Hunt.

by Anonymousreply 4August 17, 2018 11:26 PM

She's family. Didn't she win an Oscar for playing a male character?

by Anonymousreply 5August 17, 2018 11:29 PM

That's Elijah Woods

by Anonymousreply 6August 17, 2018 11:32 PM

Loved her in Dune.

by Anonymousreply 7August 17, 2018 11:33 PM

She was great in Silverado.

by Anonymousreply 8August 17, 2018 11:36 PM

I love that she won an Oscar playing an Asian dude. So delightfully weird.

by Anonymousreply 9August 17, 2018 11:48 PM

Even her PSAs about brittle bones are majestic.

by Anonymousreply 10August 17, 2018 11:56 PM

Does she have a form of dwarfism or is she just small?

by Anonymousreply 11August 17, 2018 11:58 PM

I think she's just small. She's 4'9"—for reference, an inch taller than JC Mounduix on Big Brother.

by Anonymousreply 12August 18, 2018 12:01 AM

R10, yes you are absolutely right -- MAJESTIC is the right description.

by Anonymousreply 13August 18, 2018 12:04 AM

She classes up everything she’s in. Even that NCIS LA mess.

by Anonymousreply 14August 18, 2018 12:06 AM

[quote]She classes up everything she’s in. Even that NCIS LA mess.

She's like Vincent Price. She turns a B movie into an A just by showing up.

by Anonymousreply 15August 18, 2018 1:01 AM

I liked her best in “She-Devil” and “Kindergarten Cop”

by Anonymousreply 16August 18, 2018 1:10 AM

I love when Dyan Cannon presented Linda with her Supporting Actress Award in 1984? for The Year of Living Dangerously-

Dy-Dy was so excited to announce Linda's name that she yelped out "Linda CUNT!"

The audience went wild.

by Anonymousreply 17August 18, 2018 1:15 AM

She was also great in "Waiting for the Moon," a little seen film from 1987 in which she played Alice B. Toklas.

by Anonymousreply 18August 18, 2018 1:23 AM

Her casting by Peter Weir in “The Year of Living Dangerously” was inspired - playing Billy Kwan, an Australian born Chinese dwarf male. The book had been a best seller so people were wondering who he would cast.

Plus this movie had Mel Gibson at the peak of his beauty...

by Anonymousreply 19August 18, 2018 4:55 AM

Her performance in TYOLD inspired Whoopi Goldberg to campaign for a role in Jack Nicholson’s sequel to CHINATOWN, THE TWO JAKES. The character was male and Whoopi wanted to play the part and used Linda Hunt as an example. Nicholson nixed the idea. She dodged a bullet with that one, as the film tanked.

by Anonymousreply 20August 18, 2018 2:40 PM

I think I read she does have a form of dwarfism. She's from Morristown NJ.

by Anonymousreply 21August 18, 2018 3:03 PM

^ hypopituitary dwarfism.

by Anonymousreply 22August 18, 2018 3:04 PM

I remember her in the movie,The Year Of Living Dangerously.

by Anonymousreply 23August 18, 2018 3:06 PM

Imagine if someone tried casting a white woman as an asian man today... Imagine all the think pieces on indiewire!

by Anonymousreply 24August 18, 2018 3:14 PM

The character was Eurasian, not pure Asian, so it’s appropriate to cast a white actor. Would you think that actors like Kristin Kreuk or Mark-Paul Gosselaar look like they are Asian? Both of them have Asian moms.

by Anonymousreply 25August 18, 2018 3:27 PM

R25 that’s not correct - the character in the book on which the film was based was an Australian born Chinese (an “ABC”). I have no issues with casting a non-Chinese female as a Chinese male - Chinese male dwarf Australian actors were in rather short supply when the film was being cast! I thought she was brilliant in the role, under a brilliant director - Peter Weir.

by Anonymousreply 26August 19, 2018 6:14 AM

She is awesome. She has carved out a nice career as a character actress for herself by simply embracing her uniqueness and being an incredibly compelling performer. She brings an air of class and importance to everything she does...even on that stupid NCIS:LA show. She makes the drivel they pass off as dialogue seem "weighty" and real.

by Anonymousreply 27August 19, 2018 7:34 AM

You've certainly never heard anything salacious about her. She seems like a no nonsense type of actor. She goes in, does her work to the best of her ability, and goes home to her very normal private life. I get the feeling outside work she's just a very normal gal, not interested in being a celebrity at all.

by Anonymousreply 28August 19, 2018 9:04 AM

She's been with the same woman for 40 years. That says a lot. She's not the typical flighty Hollywood type.

"Hunt has been with psychotherapist Karen Kline since 1978. The two were married in 2008. They currently reside in a historic neighborhood in Hollywood, California with their pet dogs, in an early 20th century American Craftsman style home."

Cool idea with the magazine covers on the walls

by Anonymousreply 32August 19, 2018 9:42 AM

Here's her Oscar acceptance speech. Grace personified.

She really is the vocal equivalent of James Earl Jones (could make a dish soap commercial sound important and compelling).

Lovely woman and actress and looks like she has made a very nice life for herself.

by Anonymousreply 34August 21, 2018 9:39 PM

What a great woman. Her house is super cozy. Now that we are talking about her, I'm worried she's going to croak.

by Anonymousreply 35August 21, 2018 9:44 PM

Loved her in THE BOSTONIANS. Dr. Prance.

by Anonymousreply 36August 21, 2018 10:06 PM

R11

She has a form of dwarfism.

by Anonymousreply 37August 21, 2018 10:08 PM

How is she doing after the car accident?

by Anonymousreply 38August 21, 2018 10:19 PM

What car accident?

by Anonymousreply 39August 21, 2018 11:48 PM

She collided with two cars when she was making a left turn R39. She was taken to the hospital with non serious injuries. It happened back in July and she is OK.

by Anonymousreply 40August 21, 2018 11:51 PM

She's the berries.

by Anonymousreply 41August 21, 2018 11:53 PM

Not one nasty post about her, only praise. A red letter day for DL.

by Anonymousreply 42August 22, 2018 12:06 AM

OP, thanks for this. HATE that she wasn't cast as Edna Mode in any of "The Incredibles". Here's a great interview... she's the best :)

She may not have been cast -- but they sure as hell owe her money.

She IS Edna Mode.

by Anonymousreply 44August 22, 2018 12:25 AM

I love her house.

by Anonymousreply 45August 22, 2018 12:28 AM

She's a well-known sex freak. Into double anal and fisting.

by Anonymousreply 46October 20, 2018 5:34 PM

She has a vizsla...thus i love her...

by Anonymousreply 47October 20, 2018 5:40 PM

And the Oscar goes to!

Linda CUNT!

by Anonymousreply 48October 20, 2018 5:47 PM

Yes, she was amazing in Year of Living Dangerously. Later, she had a recurring role, kind of comedic, as a judge on ABC's The Practice, and maybe also the sort-of spinoff Boston Legal.

I love her work.

by Anonymousreply 49October 20, 2018 5:54 PM

What the fuck was Dyan wearing in that clip?

by Anonymousreply 50October 20, 2018 5:55 PM

Is she a vagatarian?

by Anonymousreply 51October 20, 2018 5:56 PM

Loved her in Kindergarten Cop and If Looks Could Kill.

by Anonymousreply 52October 20, 2018 6:30 PM

I loved her in “Ilse, She-Wolf of the SS”!

by Anonymousreply 53October 21, 2018 3:02 AM

I saw her in Mother Courage and Her Children in Boston in the early 80s. She was wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 54October 21, 2018 6:45 AM

She and that blond-haired boy, Something-Something Olson, kept me watching that NCIS:LA show for two years.

by Anonymousreply 55October 21, 2018 7:18 AM

I saw her driving behind me in LA once. I assumed she was sitting on a stack of phone books.

by Anonymousreply 56October 21, 2018 7:25 AM

Linda Hunt is cool. Her woman is ugly as sin though.

by Anonymousreply 57October 21, 2018 8:13 AM

UGLY!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 58October 21, 2018 10:07 AM

Wasn't she Caryl Churchill's lover back in the 1980s?

by Anonymousreply 59October 21, 2018 2:21 PM

Mike Hunt

by Anonymousreply 60October 23, 2018 11:59 AM

I never would have guessed she’s from Jersey. What’s with the phony Continental accent? It’s a bit Cary Grant of her.

by Anonymousreply 61October 23, 2018 6:19 PM

Still no word on her health. They had her character call the show but using a voice Scrambler, so she hasn't even made an off-screen appearance. The news reports on the accident said her injuries were minor but now I wonder if she had a health incident That's caused the accident
