Don Lemon needs to take a fucking seat with her drama!
Yeatersay, feigning the quivering voice, sniffing like he’s high on coke, the watery eyes and tears, making Aretha Franklin’s death all about him!
He’s always injecting himself into the story. Anyone good or liked, Don somehow knew well and hung out with them. He was somehow “mentored” by them and loved them back. Anything bad or racist to happen, well, it’s happened to Don too. And worse. And more often.
Seriously, I’m sick of this queen. If Trump was ever right about anything in his miserable life, it was calling Don Lemon the most stupid man on television.
Girl sit down and STFU already!!

It would be more genuine if he was a friend of Aretha's rather than a fanboy. The cloying comments on Twitter letting him know people are crying along with him are just sycophants. People think that tweeting a celebrity something like "OMG, me too!" or "I feel so bad for you!! Sending you a big hug!!" will somehow make them friends with said celebrity.

R40, he was also on the air when news broke about Jackson's transport to the hospital. I never watch CNN but was channel surfing and could not look away from Lemon's cringeworthy performance. He wasn't crying, but he had next to nothing to say. They scrambled to find a music journalist to sit next to him and do most of the talking. Don seemed lost in reverie when suddenly, and I wish I could remember his exact comment, he said something so outlandish that the guest expert had to cut him off mid sentence. I enjoy his show, but I don't think he's quite the incisive intellectual he seems to think he is. Whenever he wears glasses, he makes me think of a much-missed friend of mine who was very handsome (and smart in the same way Lemon is) who had a pair of clear glasses he would wear St work to try to look more professional and serious. At least he admitted it and knew it was a bit silly--I wonder is Lemon is doing something similar?

Look, I felt bad when I watched Aretha sing on one of the news clips — and I cried. Does that mean I made her death about me? I just don5 get what’s so bad about an anchor on one of these shows displaying emotion.
It feels like the same person or couple people are making most of these extremely negative posts. Whatever. I just don’t understand the level of vitriol.

R78 Well I must be a true anomaly then. While I certainly don't count myself as a big Trump fan, I don't hate him nearly as much as the average DL'er does. On occasion I do point out things he has said or done which don't seem to follow the DL narrative that he is a stupid, hopeless, racist pig who is in the throes of dementia and taking the US down beyond any hopes of repair. Yeah, I guess that does make me a hard core Trumpster in DL's eyes.
But, having said that, I really like Don and I always have. I love his New Years Eve drunk-a-thons and his weepy sentimentality when something really grabs him. He's so fucking handsome that I don't think anyone straight would ever view him as a negative gay stereotype. There is nothing "Nelly" about him at all. I will cut him slack when it comes to Aretha...I know how I felt and acted out when Kurt Cobain died, and it almost seems comical in the rear view mirror of time. I think he really did love her and felt like he lost a family member. As absurd as that may seem, that was exactly how I felt in April of 1994.
Don is a good egg, and I am sad to see him getting so little support here.

How old were you? Because Don is 52.

But he is stupid, racist, and a pig, so, yeah.

r87, these people are extremely unsuccessful or insecure in their own personal/professional lives. They are beyond cynical. They are down right bitter and jealous.

R127 I am somewhat embarrassed to say I was 38. I had a "late in life" fangurl experience.

Oh, dear R130. Well, you get a pass because you didn't do it on national television.

[quote]I just don5 get what’s so bad about an anchor on one of these shows displaying emotion.
It's called professionalism. Would you want your plumber breaking down in your kitchen and crying over Aretha Franklin's death when he's supposed to be fixing the drain? Your tax preparer? Your doctor? Why should it be ok for an anchorman?
He doesn't have to be a robot. He can express some thoughtful and articulate words of mourning. He can blubber as much as he likes when the cameras are off.

I don't follow my plumber or CPA on social media, so I know nothing about them really. With Don, you can see his vacations, boyfriend, house and whatever else he shares. Doesn't bother me if he cries his eyes out.

R135, If I'm going to give anyone a pass for showing emotion on TV, in the event of an icon's death, it would be to a smart, strong black man. Gay or NOT. Stop watching CNN if you find it so bloody unprofessional.

Yeah, that plumber bullshit mentioned by R135 is ridiculous.
Glad to see at least a few DLers post that it’s no big deal that Don Lemon showed emotion over Aretha. The criticism here has been laughable.

'Retha was the first woman Don ever slept with.
And probably the only woman.

R135 I agree with you.
I don't want to see my plumber crying in my kitchen. Nor my electrician.
People who enjoy tears should go to their church or join their local women's community group.
Newsreaders are supposed to do no more than read their cue cards.

This thread is just a moldy ball of casual racism and casual homophobia.
It's like one of those polyester leisure suits they sold via mail catalogue in the 1970s---badly conceived, cheaply produced and excellent at producing and absorbing bodily odor. Like a nasty smelling Airwick solid room deodorizer.
Is there a Funyun aspect to it? No, there isn't.

Don Lemon is in the Hamptons and he just followed Countess Luann on Instagram 45 minutes ago. Will the Anderson-Andy-Ripa crowd admit him as their token brown person? Wait and...watch what happens!

Don Lemon in the Hamptons, Countess Luann, and Anderson-Andy-Ripa. And you guys think Lemon will ever be taken seriously ?

Anderson and Don are hanging with housewives and sucking up to Cohen; David Muir is jacking off to pin-up posters of himself on his bedroom walls. Are gay men incapable of legitimate journalism?

Somehow though, I do get the feeling this time Don's tears went a bit too overboard. I think he professionally hurt himself inside the halls of CNN - especially since Fredricka Whitfield handled the coverage, and attending the funeral was former CNN journalist Roland Martin.
