Aretha Franklin is in Hospice Care
Aretha Franklin is in hospice care at her home, a source close to the 76-year-old singer told CNN's Don Lemon.
Word of the "Queen of Soul" being gravely ill was first reported by Showbiz 411. Showbiz 411's Roger Friedman told CNN: "She has a great family, she's surrounded by love, and the world is sending prayers. All further announcements will be made by her family. We just want to send love and prayers." The soul singer has been dogged by reports of failing health for years and appeared frail in recent photos, but she has kept her struggles private

So I guess it turns out that the blind item about the "HIV-positive black legend" actually was/is Aretha? Remember that DL was right about Charlie Sheen.
Regardless, sad news.

I saw her and she was wonderful.
The audience loved it, but halfway through she brought on her no talent son and we all took a LONG intermission while that mess was on stage. A good 60% of the audience left, when she returned, we returned.
She sand My Funny Valentine and stopped the show. You have never heard it like that.

Where did this rumor about Glyn Turman infecting Franklin with HIV start? The rumor he slept with her son? What proof has there been?
Turman is 71 and still in show biz. He even has a long time third wife.
You'd think Franklin and her family would have devoted themselves to prosecuting him until some kind of justice was served.

The rumor was started by the info posted from that Aetna leak, so someone posted the names of several celebrities who, supposedly, were sent info about their HIV treatments. Then some BI expanded it by saying that the person (who was guessed to be Aretha) contracted it in the 80s, was on medication for a long time, and that, not that long ago, the treatment stopped working.

Saw Aretha in 2009 at The Hollywood Bowl. It was the day after Michael Jackson died. She spoke about him and had a moment of silence. Very intense. You could hear a pin drop. The only reigning queen...

Aretha Franklin is in hospice care at home - HOSPICE. That means they expect her to die (not "pass away") within the next 90 days. We don't know how long she's been in hospice, 1 day or 80.
I'll be willing to wager that she has repository - heart issues that are going to kill her.

My partner's mother is in a memory unit hospice, for 3.5 years now. Inoperable benign brain tumor which will eventually be what kills her. So, yes, people can last in that state but it's very different from, say, terminal cancer. My friend's husband had cancer and, after being transferred to a hospice, lasted less than a month.

The first record, hit single, I bought by Aretha Franklin was "Think" and on the flip side was her great rendition of Sam Cooke's "You Send Me". And that was back in 1968, 50 years ago, when she was only 26.

I saw her once - at New Bethel when she recorded One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. My ex grew up there and got tickets through his family. Her voice was starting to fray from the smoking but it was thrilling to hear her where it all started. I'll never forget the choir filing into the darkened church with candles singing Walk in the Light. Thank you, Aretha, and God bless you.

I pretty much quit liking Aretha after reading so many reports about how rude and nasty she was to people. I remember how terrible she was to Patti LaBelle, who was attempting to praise her after a performance. That was it for me, because Patti is a sincerely nice and gracious person.

There's a good book about her father called Singer in a Strange Land that denies those rumors, but does confirm that CL knocked up a 13 or 14 year old girl from his church. I think it also said he had a tumultuous relationship with some singer, maybe Dinah Washington. He led a pretty dissolute life, and Aretha took after him as he had a lot of musicians over partying all the time. There are also rumors that Sam Cooke fathered her first or second son.

So because the Osmonds, Joan Crawford, Drew Barrymore, McCulley Culkin and his siblings, Mackenzie Phillips, River And Joaquin Phoenix had troubled childhoods; does that mean that most white celebs had trouble childhoods and any incest/rape rumors must be true?

I was able to see Aretha perform in Chicago in March 2017. She looked thin but, as always, sounded amazing and delivered a terrific performance. She sat for some numbers and left the stage for a brief time halfway through, but otherwise gave it her all.
Afterwards, we happened to go by the stage door as she exited and got into her custom bus / motor coach. Lots of fans were outside and she was very gracious but didn't stop to talk to anyone.
There aren't too many performers I've always wanted to see perform live, but she was one of them. So glad I got the chance.

Some people's condition actually improves when they are in Hospice care. Because they are no longer being subjected to unnecessary medical treatments and procedures, and they are not being put on new meds with resultant side effects.
And they are allowed to eat whatever they want. And their stress and anxiety levels may be a a lot lower because they are not worried about the future any more at this point.
This has been known to happen... depending on what the underlying condition was.

R68, I said that it depends on the underlying condition, asshole. Obviously, she’s not gonna survive end-stage cancer.
But no one knows what she has, because it’s never been revealed. She was rumored to have pancreatic cancer years ago and she’s still here.
And it doesn’t help the speculation when her family posts shit like this:
[quote]We believe she'll pull through it, she believes she'll pull through it, and that's the important thing," he added.
