William Ivey Long, 6 Time Tony Award Winner - Revealed as Abusive Monster in #MeToo dust-up with PIEFOLK editor Michael Martin
William used to prey upon young gay men in North Carolina's summer hit, The Lost Colony. When I worked for the Colony, he hired two of the dancers to have a threesome with another young guy in a cheap motel. Long and another ElderCreep watched in delight.
The ElderCreep wound up donating money to keep the Lost Colony going.

Interesting to read the comments in that article; they paint Martin as shady and of being an abuser himself.

I've heard Long is widely loathed.

Interesting that the theater company that produces “The Lost Colony” won a special Tony the year Long became head of the theater wing. I’m sure this is just a coincidence.

When will people learn that a lot of really talented people are creeps?

Is this Michael Martin the ‘fucking hipster who bakes’, the one who left Manhattan for LA and mysteriously married a woman? If it is I totally believe this is made up because that guy’s a headcase if there ever was one.

Yes, he is the hipster who bakes
He’s into Asian guys, the younger the better.
He was in NYC and moved to LA to further his showbiz career. He’s a comedian.
“Today, Martin lives in Los Angeles and has cobbled together a tapestry of disparate employment — from tending bar to IT consulting to social work with young kids — when he's not working on his own creative endeavors.”
Remember when he married a woman who paid for his move to LA?
Crazy nutso. Sorry that he had a bad experience more than 20 years ago. But this guy has proven to adore attention.

This man who claims he was violated 19 years ago advertises himself nude.

Most of the people who go to this 'Lost Colony' show go to see the bare buttocks

I saw his naked baker blog thing years ago - think there was a link from Colby Keller’s blog bavk in the day (before we all got over him). Thought Piefolk was low level creepy. Didn’t understand what the fuss was about. Or what it was all meant to be. He gives classes on baking pies? Naked except for an apron? And this is his schtick? Assumed I was missing sonetimes - but didn’t care enough to try and find out more. So very strange.

There's a topless baker, too. But he wears pants and lives with a woman.

The comments on the article are very interesting. The article itself is really, really long -- as long as the performance of The Lost Colony. I don't understand parts he he complains about being reprimanded for being late. How should that go down? What am I missing? Even if you are sweet as pie (no pun) it is still humiliating to be called out for your mistake in public so what does the boss do exactly? Wait for a private moment when the lateness may have already created one delay.

William Ivey Long is a brilliant costume designer. If he never did another show after the original production of NINE, his work would never be forgotten.
But he has long had a reputation for being a difficult and nasty little piece of work. It ain't for no reason that he is whispered about on the Great White Way as 'Poison Ivey.'. He earned that nick name.

that buzzfeed article was ridiculous. this guy still devasted after 20+ years because an old creep touched his arse is ridiculous. such a slap to real abuse victims

I have no doubt that Ivey abused Martin, and it is unforgivable that he did. BUT...Broadway and show business in general is a demanding arena. You have to have nerves of steel to take the abuse you get from EVERYONE, from the casting agent, to your agent, to the director, to the critics. You will be flayed, period. If you do not have the stomach or constitution to take years of abuse -- some physical, some mental, some just frustrating -- you will never ever succeed. So for Martin to claim that Ivey's abuse led him to leave the theater, well, if it weren't that, it would have been something else. He didn't have the constitution for the industry, so he can't blame Long for inability to make a career in it. I'm not excusing Long's behavior, rather, I'm just saying that Martin can not blame long for his not succeeding.

There's no such thing as a "casting agent", they're called "casting directors" by everyone in the biz and only called casting agents by people not in show biz.
It is my biggest pet peeve, I have no idea why, but it drives me crazy.

Yes, I knew they were called casting directors, R20, but I typed that before my morning coffee! I have some phrases that drive me crazy, too, so I get it. Oh, for an edit feature!

If he identifies as bisexual, then it sounds pretty normal that he is into younger Asian guys, as it is my observation (being Asian myself) that the majority of guys who are into Asians are bisexual. As they like a dude who is feminine, soft skin and passive in bed. But with male plumbing.
I follow this guy (piefolk) on twitter and the minute the article went live, he sent out tweet after tweet after tweet trying to get traction & traffic for the post. Plus he has seemed to respond to every message he has received by retweeting it with his own comment.

So...it would appear that he is talking about Ivey Long for the attention, and not because it really did him great harm and he needs to come clean.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 12, 2018 5:19 PM

Has he ever identified as "bisexual"? He only married the woman so that she could get a Green Card or some similar scheme. He doesn't date or fuck women.
Spend 5 minutes with him and you'll know the type to a T: Bitchy, snarky, jaded queen who hates himself and everyone else, especially successful and/or good looking gays. If you aren't slobbering all over him and showering him with praise, he will tear you apart with his bitchy insults (behind your back, of course). Yes, I sort of know him....

There was an TV version called 'Roanoke' about 20 years ago.
It included a sexy young man who 'went native' by exposing his lovely buttocks.

William Ivey Long has a long, storied history of abuse, gas lighting, and sexual harassment lawsuits. An Assistant Stage Manager tried to launch a multi-pronged attack on him a few years ago. Long squashed it with settlement money, and threats from his legal team. Wake up. #MeToo is for gay people too, but only if we take it seriously enough to say, hey, we are valuable, and our stories matter. What's the matter with you people? #TimesUp

Long? Such a nerdy-looking guy. Why didn't those "molested' have the balls enough to kick him in the balls, saying "stop that you little fairy"? Unwanted advances are easy to thwart.

William Ivey Long might be a creep, but this creepy pie maker nut who has a long history of fucked up behavior himself is not the person to be making accusations.

Typical victim shaming. How can he be a victim? He seems ok and shows his ass! That's not how victims supposed to behave. Shame on him!

I knew him in NYC,. He was weird, but cute and funny, and mostly harmless. I hope he gets peace from this. I made out with him once, at Metropolitan. He always had a smile on his face, but his eyes were kinda sad.

We'd have no cultural life whatsoever if it weren't for the abusers.
So many great ones were.

What did you do this weekend?
Me? Oh, not much. There was a work/networking thing on Friday. Saturday, I contributed to a type of internalized homophobia that is statistically likely to drive my brothers to suicide (bitched about a gay social justice warrior cause I was sweepy and didn't wike the optics of it!). Circuit party Saturday night (boring!). Sunday Funday. What did you do?
Same.
K.
K.
Oh!
What?
Oh, nothing, I thought I saw a straight celebrity.
Oh!
No. Wasn't them.
