When I lived in PA years ago I often liked visiting New Hope and maybe crossing the river to visit Lambertville, NJ. I thought it was a very pleasant, beautiful little gay town of artists and actors. Many shops had cats who would rest by doorways not frightened of passing customers. The shops in the '70s and '80s were different and fun as were the restaurants and antique stores. I understand that nowadays younger people have little use for antiques so I'm wondering how that has affected New Hope. In view of the recent thread on Provincetown I'm wondering what the gay scene is like nowadays in New Hope.
New Hope, Pennsylvania--is it still as gay as it used to be?

I once had the hottest hot tub sex with a bartender from the raven back in the 90s
It was definitely gay then!

Lived there for 10 years 1980-1990; totally changed now. Crowded, commercial, not nearly as gay.

I went to grad school in Princeton and would go down there originally to new Hope because it had the only gay bar for miles and miles. But since it was mostly frequented by older men I stopped going, and kept to NYC instead where I could meet guys my own age.

I went to grad school in Princeton too, back in the 80s. It was pretty gay then. Haven't been there in decades.

There used to be an astrologer who, instead of horoscopes, did sexoscopes. Her name was Princess Anne. This was in the '80s--I wonder whatever became of her.

When you go there, say hi for me.

Lambertville on the Jersey side of the river is far nicer these days. The last time I was in New Hope was in 2017 when I saw "Menopause the Musical" at the Bucks County Playhouse. The Raven is still the place to go for a drink and a little gay comradery. You can rent a Zipcar in NYC and get to New Hope in under 2 hours. Nice for a day trip. October is a beautiful month to go.

There's also a tiny town in the NW area of Pennsylvania called Little Hope, Pa.

OMG r8, I'm from that area originally. Erie County. I left that area a long time ago--one of the best decisions I ever made.

Does anyone remember the Cartwheel Drag Bar? Is that the right name?

New Hope was great in the 80's. We'd travel from central Jersey and spend the weekend. The Raven on Sundays around the pool was a lot of fun. Haven't been there in years.

Is there any place that isn't less gay than 20 years ago?

I think in the '70s and '80s r11 it was called the Old Cartwheel Inn, so maybe it changed into a drag place(??). I seem to recall a ride on a canal boat last time I was there in the '90s, I can't remember the name of the canal, but I'm going to guess it parallels the Delaware River.

I love Lambertville, NJ. I think it's nicer than New Hope, PA.. and has more to offer in antique shopping and galleries.

New Hope is terrific, and still gay friendly. The Bucks County Playhouse has been putting on some very good musicals lately, getting positive reviews in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times.

The trashy part of PA is called "No Hope, Pennsylvania."

Wrong, R17. It's called Philadelphia.

New Hope is now an exurb of Philly. McMansions and sprawl with suburbanites instead of creative weekenders. Only thing that remains gay is the Raven bar. But it’s filled with suburbanites who don’t go to the city. While it has rooms to stay, it’s like vacationing in a strip mall on a main suburban road. New Hope as a gay destination ceased to exist by 2000. Grateful to still have a gay bar - as the next closest is in Philly. But definitely not a vacation or weekend destination.

"New Hope is now an exurb of Philly."
And New York. Roads are clogged with suburban cunts in their huge Escalades, Navigators, Land Cruisers, etc. transporting their devil spawn to dance lessons, sports practices and the doctors office while hubby labors away on Wall Street. And on Sundays, all those entitled, fat old white dudes from Wall Street get on their motorcycles and race around New Hope and Lambertville.
