We've been waiting for his nude pics to leak.

Has he done anything since "Maze Runner 3" or "The Assassin?"
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 9, 2018 1:26 AM |
it's weird how his accident is barely addressed. the last Maze Runner came and went to cinemas with little fanfare. It seemed that both O'Brien and the studio just wanted to get it over with. There was so much mystery around how he would look and O'Brien did nothing to flame the mystery (unlike that famewhore Carrie Underwood who bizarrely kept teasing and taunting her fans).
Did he ever do an in-depth interview about it or have both he and the studio chosen not to address it?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 9, 2018 1:26 AM |
have both he and the studio chosen not to address it?
We've "addressed" it through our attorneys.
Let's just say that he's set for life.
Did he ever do an in-depth interview about it or have both he and the studio chosen not to address it?
He did talk about it in a few diff interview when promoting the last Maze Runner movie.
Has he done anything since "Maze Runner 3" or "The Assassin?"
He's got 2 movies lined up and a series called Weird City.

Dylan O'Brien and Laverne Cox are not celebs of equal "star power."
Wtf is Dylan thinking???

by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 9, 2018 3:22 AM |
Given how hugely popular the American Assassin books are, that movie was supposed to be the start of a long running franchise akin to Bourne or Jack Ryan.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 9, 2018 3:42 AM |
I agree R22, but the box office for the movie wasn't so great, if I remember correctly.
Will they still make more movies, despite the below average ticket sales?
Will they still make more movies, despite the below average ticket sales?
$33mm production budget with global box office of $67mm - I doubt it.
Too bad. The books was actually somewhat entertaining. Never saw the movie, but the previews made it look dull and the story seemed incoherent.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 9, 2018 3:55 AM |
It's a shame, the accident seemed to derail his career or break the momentum.
The American Assassin movie got dumped in September, which is never a good sign.

R26 Can you please post a pic of how he looks like now? I'm curious. I haven't seen him in anything since before the accident.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 9, 2018 5:05 AM |
He doesn't look that different; it's just now there is a noticable uneveness between his eyes. From how he described the accident he's lucky to come away with just that.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 9, 2018 5:13 AM |
Dude is wearing a wig.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 9, 2018 5:31 AM |
It just takes one slight alteration to ruin the type of attractiveness he had. Studios should bubble wrap their actors and only put them in front of green screens instead of allowing them to do any (risky) physical activity.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 9, 2018 5:37 AM |
How did the accident change his face, exactly?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 9, 2018 5:42 AM |

Anyone have a side by side?

by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 9, 2018 9:35 AM |
If I didn't know about the accident, I don't think I'd have noticed the change. Would have probably chalked it up to growing into his "20s" face.
The surgeon did a damn fine job.

I don't see his attractiveness over any other late-teens-early-twenties actor (unlike Hoechlin, for instance, or even Posey pre-tattoos). O'Brien seems white bread. What am I missing?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 8, 2019 2:34 PM |
I'm wondering the same thing, R47.
Dylan merely linked to his IMDB page on his Twitter post, and this "EvanRachelWould" person is ranting about Bryan Singer.
I don't see the connection.

I guess you don't use Twitter, r47 and r49.
Evan Rachel Wood wasn't talking to Dylan - Dylan liked her post (suggesting he agrees with her). That's what r46 was pointing out.

Dylan O'Brien is adorable, and he has a super-cute goofy personality that is far more attractive than "pure looks".

I don't get it either. But it's mostly due to stans/shippers. And the fact that lots of Teen Wolf fans thought he was the best actor out of the main cast.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 8, 2019 11:56 PM |
I don't get how you can not get it. He's ADORABLE. So cute. I just want to cuddle him. And yeah, the fact that he's a great actor helps. But he's just so fucking attractive in every way.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 9, 2019 12:51 AM |
It's all in his attitude.
Dylan has an "it" factor that most Hollywood actors are lacking.

A lot of people didn't like his look in American Assassin, but I thought he looked hot.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 9, 2019 12:55 AM |
His body was amazing in American Assassin.
I have a feeling that he's going to be a action movie star, like Tom Cruise or Matt Damon.
I can easily see him playing the lead in Mission Impossible or Jason Bourne.

R57, I like him much better with short hair, personally.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 9, 2019 1:38 AM |
I wonder if he had any body shyness during TW, being surrounded by hardbodies. Then again, he had a pretty rabid fanbase, almost from the start.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 9, 2019 1:38 AM |
Of all the guys on Teen Wolf, Dylan may not be the 'fuck', but he definitely is the 'marry'.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 9, 2019 1:43 AM |
I like the chest hair & treasure trail at R61.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 9, 2019 1:50 AM |
R68 He didn't have any trouble going shirtless in The First Time. He probably just didn't want to for Stiles.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 9, 2019 1:50 AM |
R71 Fair point - a certain amount of insecurity was very Stiles.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 9, 2019 1:51 AM |
I think he's super hot, and can be incredibly charming on-screen (as in "Teen Wolf"), but off-screen (or in the wrong role) he's boring as fuck.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 9, 2019 2:17 AM |
He's coming up on 30. I wonder how long before his star begins to fade. The Maze Runner films made money at least, so he'll probably have at least a couple of flops before he tarnishes. American Assassin was weak tea and I think probably kill him as an action type. He'll probably go the Adam Brody round and end up in a dwindling series of comedy/drama roles.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 9, 2019 2:27 AM |
I sense a rom-com in his future.
He deserves more though.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | January 9, 2019 2:32 AM |
He’s amazing and would do well on British sitcoms. Or Dr. Who.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 9, 2019 2:37 AM |
It really seems like the accident derailed his career - unsurprisingly. He really lost momentum and the American Assassin bomb didn't help. Straight up action hero at this stage is probably not his best role.
I always thought he'd be best in a Han Solo-type role - the lovable rogue (though obviously, that specific role would have been career suicide). The same type of roles you might consider Chris Pratt for (though he's obviously not as physically imposing).
He'd also be good in the types of roles you might have considered 1980s Michael J Fox for - I could see him as Marty McFly.
If they ever make a movie out of Armada, the followup Ernest Cline book to Ready Player One, he'd be a great choice for the protagonist.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 9, 2019 2:58 AM |
Weirdly he reminds me of Michael J Fox and Adam Brody.

Ain't nothing 'average' about him.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 9, 2019 6:01 AM |
His charm, wit and natural charisma and presence are what made him a standout on TW and gave him a big rabid fan base. The rest of the cast lack those die hard fans like Dylan.
Colty wishes he had Dylan’s fan base.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 9, 2019 6:36 AM |
Dylan probably has more talent compared to Colton, sure.
But let's not exaggerate and make him out to be an A-lister.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | January 9, 2019 6:38 AM |
He is compared to Colton and is far more talented, charming and charismatic with the better career.
Colty can’t even commit to a job and just lays around crying and eating fast food.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | January 9, 2019 6:46 AM |
R81 Hoechlin's fan base can be ott too. And you sound like a Dylan stan.

I wonder how many Dylan fans are actually Stiles fans.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | January 9, 2019 10:53 AM |
I have never seen him in anything but Datalounge, but if you think this is "average," we have nothing to talk about when it comes to men.

Here's another one:
Sorry you feel that way, but you missed the point. It’s about applying that standard to people in positions of power, namely, our PRESIDENT, who has abused countless women, all of whom suffer from his actions, & he is still in office. I think it’s a very important issue, in fact.

I have never watched Teen Wolf. Which one is the high school junior? They both look 25 or 27.

r138 DOB barely looked 18 in early teen Wolf which is where most of the Sterek fangirls boarded ship. And like I said Hoechlin 's probably been shaving since he was 9.

by Anonymous | reply 142 | January 11, 2019 2:09 PM |
r141 No I just despise Sterek shippers as squealing teenage girls. Who think being thrown against a wall by an older good looking guy is a basis to ship something, then demand the entire show be made about their delusional ship then whine about being queerbaited when the cast and crew call them out for being pathetic. Boy the Teen Wolf fandom was fun.

Sterek was a bit more than something fans shipped. Jeff Davis gaybait like there's no tomorrow with the pair, and he hinted Styles was bisexual several times. That backfired big time because you can't expect a main character going bisexual when you have a token gay character on the show.
Both actors even joked on a video when they were on a ship. Then they realize it wasn't a good idea to play with fandoms (because they were a little crazy).
Dylan is cute, he was very far from being the most attractive actor on the cast, but he was the best actor, he was good at comedy and he has charisma. But expecting him to become a big film star was a little too much in my opinion, specially because he really chose bad movies to do it. I know the first Maze runner did well, but you don't become a star playing that kind of films anymore. Just look who are hot in young Hollywood right now (Timothee Chalamet, Lucas Hedges), people who never were on a blockbuster but showed they can act. People in superhero movies struggle once the franchise is over He would do better on rom coms and comedies in general. He probably will never be a lead man, but he has charisma and acting chops to have a nice career if he gets the right roles

No JD didn't. If you'd watched the show, you'd know it wasn't going to happen. Nor was Stiles ever confirmed to be bi and he wasn't the main character. That would be Scott.
Both actors even joked on a video when they were on a ship.
Exactly! It was a joke. They were doing their job, which was to promote the show. It's not their fault a bunch of dumbasses voted for them and on top of that expected it to be something more.
Dylan is cute, he was very far from being the most attractive actor on the cast, but he was the best actor
That's not really saying much.

R165: Davis hinted that Styles could be bisexual several times, and there are scenes on the show that matched that.
The show gaybaited like very few on tv and never delivered. And yes, they were joking, but they should know better. It was pretty obvious for everybody with a brain that Sterek fans were loonies. You can't tease and then became upset because fans ask you question about them on conventions.
TW is a clear example of gay writer complex. He has all the power but he refused (in a very big cast) the give something substantial to do to his gay character who was the definition of token (Keahu didn't even was notified that he wouldn't be in fourth season, he eve joked about that). Jeff only changed the tune when the criticism became to obvious to ignore. At least he was better than the Quatico writer who made the fake gay a hero and the only gay character a traitor and a coward

Hinting isn't good enough and all of those scenes were played for laughs. Stiles dated Malia and then Lydia.

Or maybe Sterek shippers need to get over it?? They were not the only ones watching Teen Wolf. Do you think general audiences gave a shit?? Which would be who JD/MTV were catering to.

Yes, and till the last seasons they were merely sidekicks who existed merely to serve the purposes of straight character which is pathetic for a gay writer.
And if you don't want to make the character bisexual just shut the fuck up, if you play with crazy fans you get exactly what you deserved

I think DOB can be a lead, he’s far better than IKEA Ansel by far. But, he needs to choose his movies carefully. On the other hand, the two other actors mentioned above Tim and Lucas...have some limitations in that department. Especially Tim, because yes he’s talented, but not a lead by HW standards and very European ( which can be an advantage as well).

R172: I'm not angry at that, in fact Sterek would be a really bad idea (unless one like disfuntional relationships when one of the characters is violent with the other half of the times), but i'm a little tired of shows being promoted in gay media when they are the same old crap.
Give a straight writers like the Spartacus one any day and you can keep gay writers like Jeff or the Quantico one

by Anonymous | reply 177 | January 13, 2019 1:33 PM |
Every fandom with attractive male characters ends up with fans of gay pairings and outright slash fiction being generated. Rather like DL does, gay fans tend to see gay people (they're everywhere). TW was baiting ALL its viewers with the endless parade of unnaturally beautiful and fit male teens, I think gay fans just tend to latch onto things more intensely. Unless you are talking about a show like Dante's Cove, where being gay was the point, then it isn't the point. I've enjoyed TW slash as much as anyone (my personal favorite pairing is Stiles/Theo), but it was never the intent of the show to develop all these gay pairings.
Agreed, that the character Danny was mishandled, and the actor getting no notice about being cut really sucked.

by Anonymous | reply 183 | January 13, 2019 1:45 PM |
R179: Danny has exactly zero character development, he merely existed to support other characters, he was just Jackson's friend and Ethan's boyfriend. Jeff had three seasons to do something with the character but what he did was write him off when Jackson and Ethan weren't there anymore.
I heard (because i got tired of the show) that he did a better job in the last seasons, but in my opinion that was simply a question of avoid criticism (like secon season of Quantico was way better in terms of gay storyline than the first)
Anyway, this is not the theme of the thread, Dylan has some movies on store, so who knows, maybe he has chances anyway (or maybe he should try to come back to tv)

A bunch of characters never got development that were more important than Danny. Isaac had a complete 180 personality change before leaving. Derek's only reason to exist post season 1 was to brood in leather jackets and get the shit kicked out of him. There's probably more I've forgotten over the years. I think Jeff Davis is just a bad writer rather than being a self hating gay.

This really is the issue. Walking Dead had two (or more) gay male characters, and did absolutely nothing with them. They were merely "tokens" for the show.
Writers are scared to make gay men "too gay," for fear of backlash by homophobic viewers.
Tv shows just aren't brave enough to make gay characters, actually BE gay.
Daniel Sharman is another good actor who could have been pushed more.
Funny you mention Daniel Sharman, because he was on Fear the Walking Dead for a while, and he actually ended up being "shipped" with the lead character Nick. They were supposed to be enemies, but they had a ton of sexual chemistry with each other.

Being so terrified of shippers that you pull two characters apart so they're never sharing scenes again is smart WHY, exactly?
If it was a mistake to pander to them (not certain it was in the context of the show, to be honest), it was a bigger mistake to completely wipe away all possibility of the characters even being in the same room or plot-line. That's a knee-jerk over-reaction that's almost homophobic. Just let the characters continue to play off of each other as antagonists.
I'm not sure why some of you are reacting the way you are. Yes, I did. I remember all the drama that went down. I just don't care because Sterek shippers acted like entitled little shits. Not to mention all of the drama that went down with Posey and his mother.
No, but you sound weirdly in denial.
No, I just happen to know what the word homophobic means.

Oh yes, Britt has had two boyfriends since they split though Dylan and Julia babysat their/her dogs recently while she was with her latest (second photo along). Maybe they got joint custody.
We've seen more of Britt and both her beaus in less than a year than we ever got of her and Dylan throughout their entire relationship. Seems as if it was Dylan wanting the privacy rather than Britt
by Anonymous | reply 269 | January 17, 2019 8:36 AM |
R269 Well, Britt usually doesn’t date actors with a flock of fangirls attached to their back. The privacy makes sense to me.
So who did she date?

Currently Graham Rogers. Worked in shows including Quantico, Ray Donovan, and Revolution. Previous

Dylan's ex-girlfriend seems like she's a serial dater.
It appears that she only dates actors/producers, or people who could help advance her "career." Btw, what IS her "career?"
Btw, what IS her "career?"
She's an actress? She's currently on that Shonda Rhimes show For The People. Which is the first tv gig she's had in a while that wasn't cancelled e.g Girlboss, The Secret Circle and Life Unexpected.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | January 17, 2019 11:28 AM |
r267 I don't think they've even seen each other since the show finished. Him and Posey have been seen meeting up a few times though.
by Anonymous | reply 281 | January 17, 2019 12:39 PM |
R281 they haven't been spotted together since they filmed the last season of Teen Wolf. It's clear they're not close at all, but you still have delusional shippers saying otherwise. Yet they get mad whenever he hangs with Posey, who clearly is still friends with him.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | January 17, 2019 12:56 PM |
Dylan and Tyler Posey have always been close. They really clicked during their Teen Wolf years. You could see how close they were, in all of their interviews, and I'm glad to see that they're still friends, despite Dylan getting higher profile acting roles. Usually, that will break up a friendship. Especially in a competitive environment like Hollywood.
However, it speaks to Dylan's character, that he doesn't forget his friends.
by Anonymous | reply 283 | January 17, 2019 6:50 PM |
I don't think Posey has the same goals as Dylan when it comes to acting. He seems to be more focused on his music after doing Teen Wolf.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | January 17, 2019 9:35 PM |
Apparently he also plays softball with Ian Bohen from time to time and of course he was at Colton Haynes (ill-starred) wedding - on his own, people were wondering where Britt was at the time. And it's not only 'people in the business'. Just before Christmas he was at a high school reunion and met up with the band he played in - before they kicked him out! He still sees his old friends. That's one of the biggest differences post-accident. We now seem to get more photos of him just hanging out with his friends that his friends put out there themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | January 18, 2019 9:02 AM |
He's still a fairly private person and I don't blame him.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | January 18, 2019 12:12 PM |
Dylan can't be THAT private.
He has been you-tubing for the entire world, from way back before he was even legal.
DOB was always kind of a ham, but he seems to have toned it down as he matured.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | January 18, 2019 3:46 PM |
It also seems that Dylan has ALWAYS been comfortable in front of a camera.
I guess that's why the transition to television and movies was so easy for him. He had a lot of practice.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | January 18, 2019 3:49 PM |
R287 Because he still has a bunch of cray cray fangirls. Dylan is nice but he puts his foot down when you cross boundaries. He likes to keep things private that’s why you only see his sister and friends posting about him.

This is a very interesting little "ride along" interview with Dylan, on a day-in-the-life of a Hollywood actor.
However, I can't tell if this is what the "real" Dylan is like, or if he's just acting for the camera.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | January 20, 2019 10:19 AM |
R291 he's acting.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | January 20, 2019 12:57 PM |
He's been cast as the title character in the "Marcel Marceau" movie. Huh.
He's also the title character in the 2019 release "The Education of Fredrick Fitzell" … we'll see how that turns out. He's supposed to play a character pushing 30, and I can't find that believable. No matter his actual age, he looks young 20s all the time, and probably will until he's 40.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | January 21, 2019 2:28 PM |

Review of Dylan's episode in Weird City, Stu Maxsome (Dylan O’Brien) joins a dating site, “The One That’s the One,” a company guaranteed to match you with your soulmate and is matched with Burt, a senior citizen portrayed by current Modern Family star and former Married with Children curmudgeon Ed O’Neill.
'Weird City doesn’t play their relationship for laughs, although it does have its humorous moments, but instead focuses on the realities of their romance, like Stu meeting Burt’s children, Burt meeting Stu’s parents, and Stu adjusting to his new role as step dad.'
Episode gets the thumbs up from the reviewer

Love Dylan! He's a cutie and one of my faves among the young hollywood stars. He needs to grab a superhero franchise. Wouldnt be surprised if he manages to do so, its not like there are many relatively well known male actors in his age range. There's a bunch slightly younger than him: Timmy, Ansel, Lucas, Tom, Asa, Dunkirk guys, etc and there's of course a bunch in their early 30s: Efron, Douchebag Teller, Hammer, Garfield, Eisenberg. Only Nicholas Hoult and Dev Patel are around his age and ahead of him, but Hoult is already a superhero. So ya, wouldnt be surprised to see him nab a superhero movie in the next few years.
by Anonymous | reply 391 | February 9, 2019 10:12 PM |
He'd be very late to that party. I think Super Hero movies are peaking.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | February 9, 2019 11:07 PM |
I dunno, I agree that the superhero movie market is close to saturated and I'm tired of Marvel's generic crap and DC's misfires, but these types of movies are still making money. No one expected Aquaman to do what it did. DC is at least trying new things with smaller indie kind of movies like Joker and now the Trench spin off. Heard that an Elastiman script is in development at DC? Dylan would be good in that.

Four episodes in and the best ones are the first one with Dylan and Ed O'Neill and the fourth with Sara Gilbert and Laverne Cox. It's a less ambitious , cheaper version of "Black Mirror".

It was interesting and well-acted. Quirky and kind of sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 428 | February 16, 2019 3:47 PM |
I agree, R428.
Having been a fan of Dylan's since the first episode of Teen Wolf back in 2011, I started watching because of Tyler Posey, but got hooked because of Dylan.
I was so excited when I heard that he was going to be in the Maze Runner, and now he's a bona fide star.
He has taken on some very interesting projects, all of which I would have expected, given his quirky nature. American Assassin was an interesting role for him. Unexpected as a leading action man, but he pulled it off.
Now I'm happy to see him taking on things like Weird City. He's actually very saavy doing this, so as not to put himself in an acting "box."
by Anonymous | reply 429 | February 16, 2019 7:54 PM |
Isn't Ed O'Neill supposed to be gay in real life?
He must have loved making out with Dylan. Even though it's kind of gross that he's nearly 50 years older.

The Weird City show reminds me of a cameo Dylan O’Brien did on that sitcom in the 80s, the one with the vaguely Jewish family. He’s always been funny.

Oh god, he’s playing Marcel Marceau as a French Resistance fighter??? I love him, but that does not bode well with the frogs, unless they see him as a latter day Jerry Lewis. I wonder if it’s being done as a comedy? Or perhaps his performance is only in mime?
by Anonymous | reply 438 | February 17, 2019 9:34 PM |
r437 I went on his IMDB that's why I'm confused. Only other thing he's got slated for release this year is The Education of Fredrick Fitzell. Fair enough if you don't think he qualifies as a "star" yet. That's pretty subjective to everyone. But he doesn't have anything out this year bigger than his previous roles.
by Anonymous | reply 439 | February 17, 2019 9:39 PM |

There’s an improv Hoechlin did where he role-played a first date with a chick, and when she asked him what kind of porn he liked, he replied “gay porn”. He then looked startled, and back-pedaled as fast as he could and changed the subject. So considering he travels with Colton, and is a long time bachelor at 31, it’s not an outrageous guess that stuff was “seen” when Dylan, Tyler, and Tyler lived together (for at least a year if iirc).
by Anonymous | reply 505 | March 7, 2019 5:44 AM |
R505 no, he said "guy on guy" stuff and second of all.....he was [bold] acting [/bold]. What does him being friends with Colton have to do with anything?? He's had 3 serious relationships and actually tries to hide the bachelor angle. The man is straight.
by Anonymous | reply 506 | March 7, 2019 6:07 AM |
Ok! I don’t really give a shit whether he’s gay or straight; but you seriously don’t find it AT ALL odd that when pretending to pick up a woman he said he liked “guy on guy” porn, and then blushed and backpedaled? It’s an interesting improv choice for picking up straight chicks, for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 507 | March 7, 2019 6:44 AM |
R507 no I don't because I didn't see him backpedal or blush.
by Anonymous | reply 508 | March 7, 2019 6:56 AM |

Those people saying the accident derailed his career. No it didn't because he didn't lose out on any roles because of it. The accident happened during the first few weeks of TMR filming in spring. During the time he would have been supposed to finish filming TMR he was recovering. So he obviously didn't lose other roles. Recovery didn't take too long and during recovery he already signed on to American Assassin and started to train for it. That movie was always planned to shoot in the fall and he filmed it in fall. In the summer he did his Teen Wolf cameo that had already been planned from the beginning.
And the accident didn't destroy his face or whatever people claim happened. He had a few broken bones around his eye socket that got fixed by surgery that is performed from the inside of your mouth. So no visible scar. His face doesn't look different than before. He didn't lose out on any roles because he was able to film all his roles like planned. His career is exactly at the place it would be without the accident.
by Anonymous | reply 511 | March 7, 2019 9:37 AM |
It’s nice that his agent came here to give us the approved version of the situation.

by Anonymous | reply 513 | March 7, 2019 9:44 AM |
r511 It did however push back the second Maze Runner by about a year and a half which had the effect of making it the last of the YA dystopia films long after that craze had died, and he was signed on for the entire trilogy. So yeah locked in a franchise that people had stopped caring about, with a reputation for stupidity from insisting on doing your own stunts certainly doesn't help an actors career.
by Anonymous | reply 514 | March 7, 2019 9:51 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 516 | March 7, 2019 10:09 AM |
R514 It was the last movie in the franchise. So the box office didn't matter so much anymore because there were no follow up movies planned. And it actually did a decent amount of money for its mediocre quality. He had already booked and filmed American Assassin before it. If anything, American Assassin (that came out after the third TMR movie) wasn't good for his career. But he would have filmed that movie anyway regardles of the accident or not. So the accident didn't really drail his career.
He is apparently also a darling of Lorenzo di Bonaventura. A big and influential producer. He discovered him in Deep Water Horizon, he cast him in American Assassin and produced it and now he gave him the voice role of Bumblebee because he produced that movie as well. Dylan (and his family) have connections all over the industry. He'll always get roles.

R517 Have you seen on which movies his father worked? They're so many big HW blockbusters among them. Dylan also used to visit him on set when he was younger and got to meet some people. Patrick is certainly very well known in the industry. He knows a lot of people. Dylan also got a whole management and PR team that normally only represents bigger actors from the beginning of his career. I hope I don't confuse it right now. It's either his manager or agent (I think his manger), she's a pretty big deal in the industry and she's a family friend. So he had a really good team from the start. A team no normal actor without experience would get from the beginning.
In every interview from the beginning of his career he was always accompanied by either his manager or publicist. Not only red carpet interview, but normal interviews as well. He was on a little MTV show. TW in s1 was little known. No other TW actor had his manager accompany every interview (because it's normally way to expensive to accompany D-list actors on a small unimportant show for every interview. You only accompany your A- or B-list clients mostly). But Dylan had someone with him for every step. His career was monitored and planned from the beginning.
The O'Briens are well connected in the industry. They have a lot of friends in the industry. And friends and connections help a lot in HW. See for example the Lorenzo connection. Just look who tweeted wishing him good luck after the accident. It wasn't only people he had worked with but also people he had no work connection with or people who had actually worked on movies which Patrick, his father, worked on and which Dylan often got to know through him Miles Teller for example.
In every interview from the beginning of his career he was always accompanied by either his manager or publicist. Not only red carpet interview, but normal interviews as well.
And yet that didn't seem to stop him from being stoned during lots of interviews. Also Miles Teller is an asshole.

by Anonymous | reply 523 | March 7, 2019 10:51 AM |
R522 He definitely smokes weed. Confirmed by several castmates and Posey of course also talked about hanging out with Dylan and smoking weed. It was hilarious when a photo leaked that a fan had taken of Dylan in a weed dispensary in San Francisco. That was way before weed was legalized in California. His stans tried to convince everyone that he was only buying weed for medical reasons because of anxiety and that he would never buy weed otherwise. They were bending over backwards to deny that he's a stoner (although everyone knew that he liked to smoke weed just for recreational reasons).
Miles is an asshole but Dylan seems to know most of the young HW crowd these days. R523 No, I don't lol. But if you're in the fandom you can't escape people talking about Dylan a lot. You don't even have to look for it very hard. Everything I said is pretty well known.

R524 I was dying when photos of the Teen Wolf cast smoking came out. I clearly underestimated how many fans of Dylan had no idea he smoked. Some of them were really upset/disappointed in him lol

R527 Yes, the reality that Dylan is not Stiles was curiously hard for people to take.
by Anonymous | reply 528 | March 7, 2019 11:17 AM |
R527 Did you see the what happened when Cody Christian posted a video of himself on instagram where he accidentally showed his half-smoked cigarette? It was hilarious. Fans started to ask in the comments if Cody smoked. Cody then quickly deleted the video. Fans started to ask in his other instagram post why the video was deleted and then Cody deleted this photo and all the comments about smoking there as well. He was so paranoid that people would find out that he was smoking that he tried to delete the whole evidence. Most likely to keep his image of the healthy guy he always tries to promote.
I don't understand why people have to lie about something like that. A year before the video a friend posted a photo of himslef and Cody smoking a cigarre for NYE and Cody even went to twitter to clarify that it was only a celebratory cigarre and that he otherwise never smoked. Sure Jan, that backfired big time.

Because it means they smell. Who wants to be perceived as smelling like cigarette smoke if you don't have to be? Plus there's the whole "good person v. bad person" issue. Now, if "bad boy" is what you want to project, smoking may be acceptable, but probably only if you want to be perceived as a smelly bad boy.

R531 Lmao. I think I would have felt bad if nude videos of any other TW guys would have leaked. Because many of them would have been terribly embarrased by it I'm sure. But with Posey, Ryan and Cody it was just the people who liked to show off their body everywhere on social media anyway.
R533 I think he just tried to lie about it because he was always promoting this healthy food company and a healthy body image on social media. Promoting that you're a role model for a healthy lifestyle and smoking at the same time makes you a hypocrite. And from his behaviour Cody seems like a person who can't stand any criticism. I think most actors know how to cover up the smell of smoking. Ian smokes a lot, also during cons, and at most cons people say that they didn't recognize any smell at photo ops.

R540 Ian is difficult to read. He sure loves his young models. But I could totally see him playing both sides.
Hoechlin is like his apprentice. He has started to hook up with models as well. First that short fling with a model in Europe, then his long-distance relationship with the Australian model. Funny that they broke up shortly after she had moved from Australia to New York. Having her on the same continent was probably too much for him lol. She shaded him pretty hard after the breakup hinting that he didn't value or care for her much. Even Ian made a shady tweet about Hoechlin saying if you don't care for your girl it's no wonder that she leaves you. If a good friends shades you publicly you know that you messed up.
But I wonder if Hoechlin's whole model phase is also a way of overcompensation. I don't doubt that he reallly hooked up with all of them. They wouldn't have been so shady otherwise. Even B. Snow shaded him after their breakup. He doesn't seem like the best boyfriend material. But he's also trying really hard to suppress any public gay rumours, to distance himself from any gay shipping of his TV characters etc. He could be bi but in denial for all we know.

Lol she got pretty serious with CMD very quickly and then that went south too. I do think he was an upgrade from Tyler though. Ever since BS, I thought he didn't make good bf material. And it's pretty ironic because others always talk about how romantic and chivalrous he is. But he can't be that great if he put Brittany off of dating actors.
But he's also trying really hard to suppress any public gay rumours, to distance himself from any gay shipping of his TV characters etc. He could be bi but in denial for all we know.
What gay rumours??? It's all delusional bullshit from Sterek/Hobrien shippers on tumblr. And the only other tv character he's played is Superman. There's nothing to suggest he's bi or in denial. I'd say it's the ones who continually read too much into things or try to twist things around, are the ones who are in denial.

I suspect the frat days are probably over r520. I remember reading on a TW thread ages ago that at Comic Con I think it was, Dylan and Posey were being complete tedious juvenile bros together. But they both would have been early twenties, prime dudebro age. Both dudebroing off each other and getting stupid which I reckon happened a lot.
Dylan seems to spend his time now just hanging and seeing K-pop bands with friends (and his friendship group includes girls too), working and posting angry tweets about Trump
by Anonymous | reply 554 | March 8, 2019 8:22 AM |
R550 Brittany is also an actress. So she knows fans and press. And the press actually didn't care much for Tyler and her as a couple, only when they deliberately called the paps. Other than that they lived their life completely unbothered by anyone. So I doubt that the "press and fan furour" (that didn't really exist around them) put Brittany off of dating actors. It seems like Tyler was the reason.
Monika, the Australian model, also shaded him pretty hard after their breakup for not valuing her. So if it happens twice and even Ian shaded him.... And his short fling with the German model in Europe also ended pretty abruptly. Travel for one week from the German con to Italy. She even met the others and spent a day with Ian and Hoechlin exploring Rome. Calling a pap to take kissing pics of them in Rome (Tyler looked directly into the camera once lol) and then she never heard of him again. He completely ghosted her. He doesn't seem like the best boyfriend.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | March 8, 2019 10:13 AM |
R549 I only thought that he maybe could be bi because of his hookups with foreign models. And that it could perhaps be a deliberate move to scream "see, I'm straight". But that could also be him just having commitment issues, because it seems that he prefers to have his woman far away from him. Convenient for hookups and travelling but he doesn't have to bother with the everyday things a relationships brings with when the girlfriend lives in your town.
But what I think is that he is uncomfortable with any gay associations.. Even if they mostly come from tumblr shippers etc. When he left Teen Wolf he immediately tried to ban Sterek (the gay TW ship) from cons and refused to sign anything Sterek. He tried to distance himself hard. Only after fan uproar he gave in and signed it again. Can't lose your money source. He often puts his foot into his mouth when asked about LGBT questions. When asked if he could headcanon is character as gay he said that it would be disrespectful to the character etc. (it's called headcanon for a reason!)
He always tries to back-paddle when he realizes that people got upset about him. He likes his image as "cute sunshine Hoechlin" the fans give him. But it's noticable that some of the answers he gives in the first place always seem like he's uncomfortable if someone associates him with anything gay. He doesn't seem to have a problem with others being gay etc. But beware that anyone associates him with anything gay.
by Anonymous | reply 556 | March 8, 2019 10:20 AM |
It's weird that that people here are assuming that Hoechlin is straight.
The funny thing is that I've always gotten a gay vibe from him, way back in season one of Teen Wolf. On the other hand, I never got a gay vibe from either Dylan O'Brien or Tyler Posey. JR Bourne and Ian Bohen were a little bit harder to tell. As far as Colton Haynes was concerned, his cover was blown early on, because pictures of Colton and Jerreth were being circulated, almost immediately.
That's when Colton ran into the closet and denied being gay. Well, we all know how that turned out.
Back to Hoechlin, though. Nothing that I have seen of him (in public) has suggested in any way, shape or form, that he is either gay or straight. My bet is that he's gay and deeply closeted. That's the reason for all of his awkwardness and stumbling around the gay issues.

The trolling in this post! His face looks exactly the same as before the accident. He did not lose out on roles because of that but recovery and accident related PTSD obviously made him take some time off. The last Maze runner did quite well, considering the delay.
His career is not exactly on fire at the moment but he has quite a few projects coming out. He will be fine, just needs one big BO hit and/or critical hit to get to the next level where he can start working with big name directors. There are not many young actors in his age bracket who are doing a lot better than he is.

R556 the weird is thing that fandom/shippers automatically made Dylan and Tyler these lgbt icons without them having to do or say anything. Hoechlin has never publicly supported or done anything to signify that that is something he's interested in doing. Fandom projects all of these imaginary ideals on to them and then get upset when reality sets in.
I also think some people forget all of the negativity that came with the Sterek fandom. Between the comments on his relationship with Brittany, the rampant misogyny of any actress that played his love interest. Continually trying to bait him at cons by asking him what he thinks of Stiles, the stalking and hacking of his social media. I think he just got sick of it and that's why he refused to sign some of the fanart.
As for the disrespectful comment, I didn't see anything wrong with it. He doesn't view Derek as gay and he wasn't on the show either. They're called headcanons for a reason, it's your own personal view, not what was actually happening on the show.
I do find it annoying how he doesn't like to upset anyone. Ever. And so he's always trying to toe the line. But I think he just doesn't understand why so many fans view him as something he's clearly not. And he probably found it frustrating.

There isn't, and they don't. Yes, it's cool when a celeb seems sincerely appreciative of fans and of their success, but they certainly aren't obliged to vindicate fans' fantasies about them or their characters.
Come here, read fansites, fan fiction, whatever, but don't forget that celebs are their own people.

Some of that is probably because of the conventions. And Hoechlin does a tonne of them.

Dylan doesn't have that Marceau movie upcoming. He wasn't even announced for it and there is nothing else about that movie than an old article from years ago. It will probably never be made. Seems like his management put his name on it just to make him seem more busy (although he doesn't need someone making up fake projects about him). It's like a placeholder. It already happened with him once. On IMDbPro, that's only visible for industry people with a paid account) he was attached to another movie for years. He was never announced for it, the movie never got made but they put his name on it to make him seem more busy.

R564 About Hoechlin and his comment that a headcanon of Derek being gay/in a relationship with a guy would be disrespectful for the character. The problem was that at the same con he didn't have a problem with making up a ton of other headcanons. Completely making up that Derek would ride into the sunset with a female character, making up headcanons of Derek being a history professor, making up headcanons that his father gave him the leather jacket... A headcanon is just a headcanon. It has nothing to do with the canon story of your character in the show. So a headcanon can never be disrespectful to a character, because a headcanon is completely independant from the canon storyline of your character.
Derek has never been explicitly labelled straight on the show. So when asked if Derek could perhaps ever be in a relationship with a guy as a headcanon, why didn't he just simply say "why not. Everything is possible" or "I personally don't see it. But if someone wants to imagine something like that it's ok" or something similar? But he immediately jumped to the conclusion that it would be disrespectful to the character. And this answer is imo very telling about how uncomfortable he feels with anything gay related.

We've only had Monster Problems confirmed via the local Australian press and him suddenly turning up there and there has never been a mention of his appearance in Amazing Tales aside from Tweets and again, local press.
So really, who knows what he's up to. Maybe that's the point

Maybe because he could see those other headcanons actually happening on the show.

Derek didn't need to be labelled straight. He was shown as only ever being attracted to women. Don't you think if he'd been gay or bi Jeff would have advertised the shit out of it?? Why does Hoechlin need to see things [italic]exactly[/italic] the same way fandom does??
by Anonymous | reply 574 | March 9, 2019 9:36 AM |
R574 He doesn't need to see anything like the fandom does. But saying that a simple headcanon would be disrespectful to the character is a problem if it's apparent that he is totally ok with making up and accepting every ridiculous other headcanon about his character but the only "disrespectful" headcanon would be Derek in a relationship with a guy. A headcanon is a headcanon for a reason. It's something that doesn't have to be canon in the show. People could headcanon Derek working for the Queen of England and I can guarantee you that Hoechlin wouldn't have said that this would be disrespectful to his character. Derek on the show had surely never studied history yet Hoechlin talked freely about a headcanon like that. He had no problem with any other headcanon that was out of character for Derek in the show.

R 579 Because we were discussing that Hoechlin felt uncomfortable everytime he was associated with anything gay. That's why this topic came up. This is just one example among many. It just came up in the discussion about how he always tried to distance himself from anything gay and that this was a pattern with him. It was simply an example among many. But then people tried to dismiss it (like his fandom always tries to do) and that's why we got this back and forth.

Or some of us just see it differently?? I don't think he's uncomfortable, but he did seem to be over Sterek at one stage. Now he seems cool with it, otherwise he wouldn't have bothered to make that unnecessary apology for Posey's comment on Sterek.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | March 9, 2019 11:00 AM |
R581 There are too many incidences where he put his foot in his mouth when it came to LGBT issues. It's a pattern with him. It doesn't only have to do with Sterek. For example his strange comment about playing a gay character. He said he would never play a gay character because he wouldn't be able to do it justice. What is that for an answer? He wouldn't be able to play a gay character because he's straight. But he can play a werewolf, bodybuilder or astronaut easily? What does he think playing a gay character means? A gay character is a person like any other character. Not defined by his sexuality but defined by his actions.
And I doubt he apologized for Posey's Sterek comment specifically because that was years ago. He made a very vague statement at a con recently that if anyone was ever hurt by anything or anyone from the show he would be sorry for that. It doesn't get more vague. And he could very well have meant the queerbaiting or nothing specific at all. He just made a very vague statement that everyone could interprete how they wanted. Perfect to maintain his polished image without needing to address anything specifically. A blanket statement that basically doesn't address anything but gives fans enough material to say "see, he apologized" for whatever topic comes up.
For example his strange comment about playing a gay character. He said he would never play a gay character because he wouldn't be able to do it justice.
Who knows. All it tells me is that he's not interested in playing one and there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe he thinks more gay actors should get that opportunity??
And I doubt he apologized for Posey's Sterek comment specifically because that was years ago. He made a very vague statement at a con recently that if anyone was ever hurt by anything or anyone from the show he would be sorry for that.

R584 If he thought gay actors should play gay roles and that's why he didn't want to do it then he would have said so. He wouldn't have said "I wouldn't be able to do it justice"
His comment at the con was very vague. He knows that Posey is not liked by the Sterek community because of his behaviour in general. And he knows that some Sterek fans are not so happy about some of his (Hoechlin's) comments about Sterek or LGBT in general either. So he just made a vague statement apologizing that if someone was ever hurt by something someone else did he would be sorry for that. He basically apologized vaguely for nothing specific and only for things someone else said (and not what he himself ever said or did).
He knew that most of the Sterek fandom would immediately assume it was Posey he meant. He basically threw a fellow castmember under the bus to make himself look better without openly saying anything. And if he really had felt sorry for Posey's specific Sterek comment he would have said something years ago. Hell, he was even standing next to him when he said it in an interview. He could have made a comment right there to smooth over what Posey said. But instead he stood there grinning and didn't address the subject afterwards.

It's not mandatory for him to justify why he's not interested in playing gay roles.
He knows that Posey is not liked by the Sterek community because of his behaviour in general. And he knows that some Sterek fans are not so happy about some of his (Hoechlin's) comments about Sterek or LGBT in general either.
And i'm sure Posey is losing sleep over it. There was nothing wrong with what he said. Hoechlin and Holland both looked like they were trying hard not laugh in that video. Maybe the Sterek fandom needs to get over it and realize Hoechlin does not feel/see things the same way they do and accept it. Like Jesus Christ the show is over. Everyone else has moved on.
And if he really had felt sorry for Posey's specific Sterek comment he would have said something years ago. Hell, he was even standing next to him when he said it in an interview. R588 Yes. Posey didn't give a shit about it and Hoechlin didn't give a shit about Posey's comments either. That's why I'm baffled that people think that he genuinely apologized for anything. But noone wanted to actually discuss everything Sterek or TW related so much here. It's the "Hoechlin never gave any uncomfortable answers about LGBT topics" people who try to defend every single comment he made. Those were just some examples under many to show that he's not comfortable with LGBT topics that specifically have to do with him.
And it's not mandatory to justify why he doesn't want to play gay roles. But his answer clearly shows that he's very uncomfortable with a topic that associates him with anything gay. That's the only thing this discussion is about. When it comes to LGBT things Hoechlin feels uncomfortable and gives answers that show how uncomfortable he is. That's the only point people are trying to make. So let's stop dissecting the TW or Sterek fandom and other castmates. That has never been the point. The point is that Hoechlin has shown how uncomfortable he is whenever the topic comes up.

R590 If you don't see it, fine. But don't act like the answers he gives are answers every normal person would give. Or that him trying to distance himself by banning anything Sterek directly after he left TW wasn't a sign that he didn't want to be associated with anything gay anymore. It's what it is. For whatever reason Hoechlin feels uncomfortable about it. Be it because he simply wants a really straight image without any "stains"or be it because he is bi like some people suggest. One thing stays always the same. His actions are not the actions of someone who's totally ok with being associated with something slightly gay.

I have to say, I wish Dylan wouldn't grow out that scruffy beard thing he grows from time to time. He really does NOT look good on him. And I say that as a guy who generally likes 'scruffy'.
He looks much, MUCH better clean-shaven.

R592 With "normal" I meant someone who has no problem with any gay associations..

R595 He seems to never want to shave between projects. Perhaps he's too lazy for it.

Or maybe he wants to try and appear older than 20, which is about how he always looks when shaved.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
