by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 7, 2018 10:26 PM |
Long-time opiate drug abusers (cocaine, heroin, pills) can get serious GI tract illnesses. It's not that uncommon.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 7, 2018 10:27 PM |
He looks like a penis.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 7, 2018 10:29 PM |
First of all, the bowel is not inside of the rectum, hence, a penis is not the source or cause for a rupture.
This is a common issue with opiate addicts.

And he needs rehab, regardless of his future plans.

I'm surprised that he's only 48. I thought he'd be in his mid-50s by now. For some reason, I thought he was 30-ish when Friends started.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 8, 2018 12:35 AM |
R29, he either has kidney issues, or drinking issues. Perhaps a bit of both!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 8, 2018 1:11 AM |
R29 people with weak chins often have this issue when they age and or gain weight. A stronger chin and jaw can hold up the facial skin as is starts sagging after 45. In Perry's case the skin and fat pool in his neck. Heavy drinking and drugging aren't good for your skin and can cause bloating. Kidney problems can cause bloating is well. You don't have to be an addict to look like that. However most non-addicts who look him are older, have been fat all their lives, or have some illness. My grandmother's neck started looking like that right before she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer, at age 89.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 8, 2018 1:23 AM |
Even the least harmful of opiates can cause bowel issues. He's admitted to addiction to powerful opiates/opioids in the past so this is hardly surprising.

Opioid addicts who need surgery have a horrible time postoperatively, because it’s very difficult to manage their pain. Their tolerance levels are off the charts and the typical drugs are not effective. I’m sure he’s having a very tough time right now.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 8, 2018 1:49 AM |
Does the horrendous constipation occur with long term abuse also, or is it a side effect that goes away over time? I've only taken Norcos on one occasion when I broke my left wrist and right elbow. I didn't have a BM for six days even after the stool softener and lots of prune juice (ugh) I guess it had its benefit because wiping would have been very difficult. It blew my mind that it was some addicts drug of choice, despite the I don't give a fuck feeling it produced. If it doesn't go away, these folks must be very well practiced at administering enemas to themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 8, 2018 1:54 AM |
R45, most of the addicts are so high most of the time, or so desperate to find their next fix... that they literally don’t pay attention to whether they’ve moved their bowels or don’t remember if they do.

by Anonymous | reply 55 | August 8, 2018 2:33 AM |
r45 same here. I don't know how people who take narcos can deal with the constant constipation. I was once constipated for four days. Not having a BM for four days was AWFUL. The feeling of fullness and general misery was too much. When I finally was able to go, the sense of relief was incredible. And I only experienced that once in my entire life. On a constant basis? Good lord.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 8, 2018 2:33 AM |
A low-level opioid like co-codamol or co-dydramol will give you uncomfortable constipation. High level drugs like the ones he's admitted to taking will back you up dangerously.

Gross - I looked up opioid constipation and came across some horror stories on Reddit. Mostly from ex-heroin and oxycontin users. One guy's girlfriend didn't shit for a month and actual had fecal vomiting.
Yep - it's an actual thing. You can get so backed up with shit you vomit it out of your mouth. I couldn't fucking believe it.
So - yes, Matt's problem means he is full blown back into his addiction again. And it's hard to feel sorry for him with all the money in the world to help him.

by Anonymous | reply 73 | August 8, 2018 3:46 AM |
R71 - she passed out - her boyfriend took her to the hospital and told the ER doctor who said it is impossible not to shit for a month. Then they took x-rays and sure enough - she had 10 pounds of impacted shit in her colon, which is why she looked pregnant.
They did a few enemas on her for a few hours and got most of it out. She was literally 10 pounds lighter.
Not that there is anything glamorous about heroin or opioid addiction, but this should really be a lot better known. How did we not hear about this in school?

by Anonymous | reply 77 | August 8, 2018 4:00 AM |
I had a bowel obstruction once and it was the worst pain. I had to be in the hospital on a morphine IV until they figured it out, and that still didn't make me pain-free, it just made me too doped up to care. Finally they figured it wouldn't undo itself, so opened me up and found it was due to scar tissue from an old surgery. Shortly after, and before my bowels started moving, I had the dreaded poo vomit that r70 mentioned.
That all happened in the space of a week, and I got off the opioids ASAP because I didn't want to poo out of my mouth again. They were able to operate laparoscopically so downtime wasn't too bad fortunately.

r81 It doesn't look exactly like a poo, but believe me it isn't something you forget. Horrible taste and feel, and it came up slowly for me. I was off solid foods for 5 days so it was impossible for it to be from food in the stomach. Also, I don't understand why you linked that article since it says:

by Anonymous | reply 88 | August 8, 2018 5:50 AM |
Wow, some over-the-top reactions in this thread. Yes, opioid-induced constipation is a real thing, and addicts obviously are prone to some real ordeals, but most opioid users can take a weak laxative to balance the effects of the opioids on the intestines. Milk of magnesia is often all that’s needed. There are newer drugs like Naloxegol that work well too. Matthew is likely a mess because of illicit use, but persistent trouble is not tyoical for most people who axtually get a legitimate prescription.
Irrational fears are mostly due to patients prescribed it once who learn the hard way they’re stopped up in a matter of days. Doctors really should be better at warning patients who get prescribed a prescription after an injury or a surgery.

Poor Mr.Perry. I feel bad for him and wish him a speedy recovery. Having suffered with IBS for what seems like ages, visceral intestinal pain isn't quite alleviated by opiates really. I fear his alcoholism is too blame as well, as too much drink increases water in the intestines and can cause bowel issues too. He has looked so unhealthy now for so long. Chandler was always my favourite "Friend" too. He usually looks so sad, something serious, if not the closet, is surely troubling him.

Matthew Perry is heading home after spending the last three months in the hospital following gastrointestinal surgery.
“He’s good,” a source tells PEOPLE, adding that the actor is “going home finally.”
The update comes just hours after the 49-year-old Friends star tweeted about his lengthy hospital stay.
“Three months in a hospital bed. Check,” he wrote on Friday, penning his first tweet in nearly six months.
A gastrointestinal perforation “occurs when a hole forms all the way through the stomach, large bowel, or small intestine. It can be due to a number of different diseases, including appendicitis and diverticulitis. It can also be the result of trauma, such as a knife wound or gunshot wound,” according to Healthline.com. A three-month bedridden recovery is normal given Perry’s condition.

I hope that the three months included rehab. You cannot fuck with your stomach repeatedly, and make it out OK. Hopefully he has finally realized that he will die in one way or another from opiates if he doesn’t stop taking them.
Perry’s actually a nice guy. He’s incredibly lonely and isolates himself. One of the big reasons why he relapses again and again.

Alright, already, R130. We know. You’ve stated your lack of empathy more than once. Geez. Just STFU, already.
For some ridiculous reason, you seem to think that money is the answer to all of life’s problems, and that rich people should be able to shield themselves from depression, addiction, and physical or mental illness, because of their access to cash, or should at the very least bounce back from what ails them, because of money.
That’s just not how real life works, but you are convinced that it does. You’ve either never had money, or you do, and you are still an asshole, so you might have a point.
I wish the guy well, and hope to see him around town in good spirits, and sober.

I agree with r132. In addition, being famous would not be easy.

I once had some strange reaction to eating bananas and a heavy rice dish. They gave me some serious case of constipation. It was excrutiating. I understand some people get used to pain, but I put every single DL drama queen to shame that day.

One a month,my Doctor every male over 50 should take a ducolax pill that works over night and helps get rid of any obstructions before they become a problem.

Uh, no... 3 months bedridden in the hospital is NOT “a normal recovery.”

He had one success. The vast majority in this world do not even have that. And he is white, attractive (not anymore but could have been). The show though quite bland was and is watched everywhere. A recent study published in nature shows many end up with one hot streak and 68% of artists and scientists have only 1 hot streak, and rarely more than 3. So he is among the majority. He threw away his life because he was unable to repeat that streak.

He should take some of his millions, get his neck done, get in shape, and come out of the closet. He is still very good looking and well hung under all that drug bloat.

So all these opioid junkies, Prince, Tom Petty, Demi Lavato, lil pump, lil peep, MGKelly must have been collectively constipated. Gee, celebrities are just like regular people! Well, maybe not like 'regular' people, but still. Butt still. Tee hee.

Miralax every day. In your morning coffee before you begin your daily drugging. Problem solved. Discipline, druggies!

Uh... that was my first post on this thread... so what exactly are you talking about?
Anyway, you've given your opinion and I'll give mine: the guy deserves no sympathy.... he has NO EXCUSE for being in such bad shape.

I remember Thomas DeQuincey wrote about constipation he suffered from taking laudanum--the beginning of a kind of junkie literary tradition.

R129 is one of those "Relapse is a part of Recovery" AA Nazis.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | September 16, 2018 8:56 PM |
Why do people here argue about whether or not addictive or self-abusing celebrities "deserve" their sympathy, as if this so-called sympathy is some kind of magic fairy dust that grants value or power.
All it is is another version of frau/GOP/open-mouth types who offer their "thoughts and prayers." And the ones who snot about how they're NOT going to have ANY sympathy for someone are just declaring a different kind of cluelessness.
Miss Perry doesn't care one way or another and wouldn't notice if you all went up in a conflagration. He's too busy trying to poop through whatever opening they have provided him while figuring out how he can get high without anything noticing.

The AA Nazi accuser may be partly right about uninformed mindsets within calcified group support systems, but failed recovery/relapse/going off the wagon/slipping is often part of a longer-term process in which cessation of unhealthy behaviors will occur. So much "recovery" seem spontaneous and managed more easily than dreaded, but it comes after a lot of work and numerous "relapses."
So the person snitting was just getting a dig in at AA, but of course not doing anything else relevant. All about her issues, I guess.
And R129 sounds more like someone who really, really needs to say nice things about strangers who also are celebrities, fortified with information gleaned from the pages of "People."

OK, but what excuse/reason did HE give for it? I'm too lazy to read the articles. Does anyone know?
by Anonymous | reply 155 | September 17, 2018 4:06 PM |
I don’t think he’s still on drugs, but I don’t think you can drink and do hard drugs for 30 years and just walk away without some of it catching up with you later on.

I've been taking Tramadol and strained the other night on the loo.
