In the comics, Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and Reggie are the primary characters. On Riverdale, Reggie has only been a bit player. Even Dilton Doiley and Midge Klump and Big Ethel and Chuck Clayton and Mrs. Grundy have had more primary roles. This guy is kind of a loser, a replacement for a bit player.

Shows you how unflexible TV show writers are. They had to scramble when Ross Butler had scheduling conflicts (13 Reasons Why) gave Reggie's storyline (going on a date with Betty, talking smack about her, and then Dark Betty getting revenge on him in the whirlpool) to someone else and then finally recasting the role when it became obvious that Ross Butler's not coming back and staying with 13 Reasons Why while the writers didn't know what to do with the new Reggie, because they mapped out the overall story arc of the season without him in mind way before he was cast and the new season started filming.

Reggie would have made a thousand times more sense for Chuck Clayton’s storyline, R37. Bummer the actor made the choice he did.

Now that you explain that, r37, it makes MUCH more sense that that storyline was originally tailored for Reggie than for Chuck Clayton (who in the comics is such a standup guy).

I hope they don;t de-emphasize Reggie--the show really needs a hot male villain.

R43 Reggie coming in as a villain in season three makes no sense. His character hasn’t been bad at all. Archie and Jughead both have been more delinquent than Reggie has. Even Betty has. To make Reggie as disproportionately dark in contrast to the other characters as he was in the comics, he’d have to be like the rich kid who tried to rape Veronica, and that would be a major change for the Reggie non-character. The writers and actors failed to make Reggie work. In the comics, Reggie was basically Veronica’s counterpart except that she had a more vulnerable human side and he didn’t. In this show, he’s maybe the most run-of-the-mill HS kid in the series.
