She's likely one of the frontrunners for the Democratic nomination in 2020 and I haven't seen her on the stump much but her keynote speech at Netroots was pretty good. Obama and Bill Clinton proved you need to get Democrats excited the vote in order to turn out. Does she have the Obama charm?
No, but then Obama didn't have Bill's charm.

What cheetollini's reign has illustrated most disgustingly is that a large number of Americans are energized not by fighting racism and misogyny, but by engaging in them.
I question whether a woman, especially a black woman, could win in the face of such, given how much fighting her would energize that sick base that is wholly uninterested in any actual policy.
Sometimes I wish the laughable conspiracy theories about the Clintons and their murderous ways were actually true, then we could expect a few folks to get their eventual cummuppence.

Any of you fools supporting a run of the mill Dem as the candidate need a reality check. No one that voted for Trump, those who really wanted a change, wants a candidate that is a typical politician. Kamala was part of the group that screamed for Franken to resign without allowing him an investigation. Franken is the kind of Dem that would do well against any Republican and bring in voters who were attracted to Trump because he has shown that he is not afraid to stand up to the bullshit beltway politicians try to feed us.
Fuck Kamala Harris.

Anybody who thinks a cosplay socialist like AOC will have major appeal needs to look at the democratic primary results in 2016. Even with major Russian support for Bernie, he still lost by 3.7 million votes.
I can get behind Beto, he's not divisive, he can bring people together. But any of the fauxgressives can get lost as far as I am concerned.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 7, 2018 9:59 PM |
OP - you're rewriting history. It is true in 2008 Obama got 60% of the vote. Bill Clinton in 1992 got 43% of the vote. Hardly a stellar example of getting out the vote.
R15 - What bullshit is Trump standing up to? He isn't standing up to any bullshit, he's just creating his own.
Anyone who wants to win in 2018 and 2020 needs to watch the ageist crap. In 2016 55% of voters were 45 and older. You can't afford to alienate a group of voters who consistently manage to get themselves to the poll on election day.
In 2012 over 60% of registered voters 65 and older voted. 38% of voters 18 to 25 managed to get themselves to the polls.

Indictment: Russians also tried to help Bernie Sanders, Jill Stein presidential campaigns
WASHINGTON – It turns out Donald Trump wasn’t the only candidate the Russians allegedly tried to help during the 2016 presidential campaign.
A 37-page indictment resulting from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation shows that Russian nationals and businesses also worked to boost the campaigns of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Green party nominee Jill Stein in an effort to damage Democrat Hillary Clinton.
The Russians “engaged in operations primarily intended to communicate derogatory information about Hillary Clinton, to denigrate other candidates such as Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, and to support Bernie Sanders and then-candidate Donald Trump,” according to the indictment, which was issued Friday.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 7, 2018 10:58 PM |
R40: And everyone is hating the Republicans now. Trump is underwater. We do not need to worry about the race of our nominee. Enough of his voters have peeled away to allow him to lose. This was from Olbermann's next to final commentary for GQ last fall.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 7, 2018 11:04 PM |
Bernie was NAMED in Mueller's indictments as a Russian asset as R42 says. Stop this Bernie shit.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 7, 2018 11:07 PM |
R44: Absolutely not. Russian agents were informed to help his campaign online, not collude with him. He never sought Russian money or hacking. My God, you people need to stop. One is not equivalent to the other. Learn how to read what is released. I don't want him to run again and I won't vote in the primary for him again. But dammit, I'm not letting you PUMAs rewrite history and continue to trash us, the 90% of Sanders supporters who voted for Clinton, and gave her that popular vote win. WE did that. YOU'RE WELCOME, Clinton supporters!
NOW, back to talking about the future, not the past....
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 7, 2018 11:14 PM |
Obama didn't have a Bernie Sanders working against him or a Jill Stein taking votes away from him.
In the last 10 years a lot of things have changed, the alt right has become even more aggressive and they are not afraid to recruit foreign hostile countries to help sway elections. Russia was instrumental in the fauxgressive movement. RT was blasting 24/7 idiotic conspiracy stories of how American institutions need to be mistrusted. How capitalism doesn't work. The whole purity test, socialist movement was born out of stupid and easily impressible millennials eating up Russian propaganda.

by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 7, 2018 11:32 PM |
R45 so what you're saying is a sitting US senator was aware a hostile foreign government was aiding his campaign.
This sitting US senator did not notify law enforcement or talk to the senate ethics committees.
This sitting US senator, one Bernie Sanders, remained quiet while he knew a hostile foreign government was interfering with a US presidential election.
Explain to me how this does not make Bernie Sanders a Russian asset.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | August 7, 2018 11:39 PM |
R51: No, I'm saying what the indictment says, which was that he didn't know. RUSSIA told its agents to interfere by supporting him and Stein, which is wrong. But he didn't know. Stein on the other hand, the circumstantial evidence is more clear. But I've yet to see any evidence that shows that Sanders knew, despite trolls on DL saying it's gospel. Do keep up, dear.

Bernie appeared numerous times on RT during the campaign, he knew very well what he was doing. Along with him hiring Tad Devine who helped Yanucovick win in Ukraine, along with not signing the Magnitsky act and not signing the Russia/Iran/North Korea sanctions; he was doing Putin's work the whole time and he knew it!
by Anonymous | reply 54 | August 7, 2018 11:50 PM |

Russians were told to talk up Sanders online to hurt Clinton's standing, that's what the indictments stated. That is NOT that same as naming an individual for indictment, something YOU clearly don't understand. This conversation is over. Have a nice life.

It is complacency that got us Trump and complacency will win him the presidency again. Nothing can be taken for granted. I'm really amazed how many people don't vote. We really need to start now telling people how important it is for them to vote. R93 - sorry not psychic. I can't read your mind to determine what you meant your post to be. Less than creative ad hominem BTW.
R92 - Interesting point about believing in science. Even an issue like climate change where you would think opinions would be based upon science, they aren't. They have crossed over to the political realm. A poll of college educated Republicans and Democrats showed that only 8% of Republicans and 50% of Democrats worry about climate change a great deal. You have a President like Trump who insists climate change is a hoax but offers nothing scientific to back up his claim. Same with other politicians. You know the ones bringing snow balls on to the Senate floor. People believe them.
On the other hand the poll showed 33% of college educated Republicans want stricter gun control and 91% of Democrats want stricter gun control. On the surface that makes sense. But who are those 25% of Republicans in favor of gun control but not worried about climate change?
Here's a link to the data. It's an interesting read.

I like Liz Warren much more than Kamala--she seems genuine and I like her passion when she speaks. I think Biden or Mitch Landrieu (not sure Liz Warren is electable and certainly not Kamala either except as VP) with maybe Beto as VP (I have contributed to his senate campaign even though I don't live in Texas). No matter what some people say, I believe we need a center left Dem to attract independents and Trump women who are backing away (there's good polling data on this)--so I still think Biden is the best candidate because he is best known and has that blue collar everyman thing. He's the opposite of the crazy cheetolini in terms of public image.
