Where are the masculine gay men? I have no problem with men being feminine (heck I’m not the most masculine guy myself) but I keep hearing people say “gay men can be masculine” bla bla but never have seen one. The only gay men I’ve seen were either feminine or borderline trans women (again nothing wrong with this). Can anybody even name a masculine gay man? I guess off the top of my head Luke Evans kinda comes to mine but the only time we see masculine gay men is in fictition like Love, Simon or something. I have no problem with most gay men being feminine; it’s just it’s weird hearing people claim gay men can be masculine without inherently seeing one.
Masculine gays

Huh?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 2, 2018 6:24 AM |
There are tons of them but they hide in plain sight because when you see them in a public place most people just assume they are straight.
Not bragging but people used to assume I was straight all the fucking time, especially woman. One bitch was cutting my hair one time and during small talk I mentioned I was in a relationship. She asked why I wasn't married and she got all pissy with my answer until she realized my wife was he not she. This was long before it was legal. Like how dare you not marry your long term girlfriend.
And growing up, heard straight guys and woman say anti gay shit right in front of me. They assumed I was straight so I would hear F.A.G. jokes. That showed me how they really felt. And to be honest, it was depressing to know this is what people really think when they assume no gays are within ear range.

I absolutely resent your post, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 2, 2018 7:53 AM |
gay men can be masculine without inherently seeing one.-- that's because when you reach such testosterone heights you DO literally become invisible
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 2, 2018 8:16 AM |
You and your JAQ thread can eat shit, troll OP. We all know what you're trying to do here.

They steer clear of flamboyant queens like your self OP. So of course there are never around wherever you are. They don't like people like you..
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 2, 2018 8:37 AM |
where do you “keep hearing people say ‘gay men can never be masculine,’” Donald Trump?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 2, 2018 9:40 AM |
Most men -- gay and straight -- are somewhere in the middle.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 2, 2018 9:43 AM |
I've read this "OP" before; some of it even sounds verbatim.
Guess he/she needs some more attention?

I’m in my bedroom, OP.

The masculine gay men are in bed.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 2, 2018 11:14 AM |
One of the gayest-seeming men I've ever met is, in fact, a vagina preferrer. He hid it from me for months, for some reason. When we first met, in a regular professional situation over the course of months, not a hookup, he allowed me to infer that neither of the two most important people in his life was his girlfriend, but rather, two other people. Later, I discovered he's been with this woman for a couple of years.
Maybe it's important for him to maintain a straight identity. I don't know him well enough to know that. And I'm no longer asking questions of someone who went to even this small effort to create an effect that doesn't quite match up with the truth.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 2, 2018 11:32 AM |
You already know why
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 22, 2018 8:43 PM |
This is the companion threat to "I'm still hearing people say "I know some good people who are Trump supporters" Maybe we can have a thread titled 'I know some good masculine gay people who are Trump supporters.'
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 22, 2018 8:49 PM |
Maybe try meeting gay people in real life instead of judging celebrities, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 22, 2018 9:14 PM |
Exactly, R16.
Do these people like OP never step out into the real world and mingle?

by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 22, 2018 9:22 PM |
Masculine gay men are everywhere. You think you don’t see them because they’re not attention whores.
Gays who claim not to know masculine gay guys are usually attention whore divas trapped in gay ghettoes 100% of the time.
Truly masculine guys don’t crave that attention.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 22, 2018 9:36 PM |
there were quite a few in my gay bowling league...........while bowling they would be monitoring 2 or 3 sporting events either on tv screens or i phones, testosterone pretty much seeping out their pores. I would say many gay amateur sports teams thruout the country are teaming with extremely straight acting gay men.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 22, 2018 11:22 PM |
Real talk: Masculine Gay guys tend to be closeted, or if open, mainstreamed with straight guys. Of the gay guys that I have met ego were unclockable (not detectable), the large majority tended to live mainstream lives with mainly or nearly entirely close non-gay male friends. Almost none lived in gay areas or gay ghettoes. They also seem to think of gay identify as a minor part of their identity, if they even identify with the term gay at all.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 23, 2018 12:52 AM |
Gay culture is not masculine, so masculine gay guys are not into gay culture, often unaware of it
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 23, 2018 11:00 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 23, 2018 2:31 PM |
That’s why a lot of masc gay guys never come out
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 24, 2018 3:52 PM |
I think it's very difficult for VERY "str8" gay guys.
I feel somewhere in the middle myself. I've never been accepted by very gay types. I just don't fit in with them. But I've always had a handful of gay friends but never fitted in at the gay bars or places like Fire Island.
I think the DL perception that feminine gays are lonely and have no sex is complete bullshit. The very gay types I know have the best time being gay. Have plenty of sex and many friends. Those gurls love it.

by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 25, 2018 6:18 PM |
Gay culture exalts feminity, so masculine gay men aren’t gonna identify it. Masculinity is often defined as separate and apart from feminity, so the gay community often repels masculine men
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 25, 2018 6:34 PM |
It's true. And it attracts masculine straight and bi drug addicts because that's who fills the gap.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 25, 2018 7:04 PM |
Also, flaming straight men are like 99% of all flaming guys. You will learn this after you work in a major city centre for more than a week.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 25, 2018 7:13 PM |
Hmmm, it depends on how you define flaming. Among extremely flaming flamboyant men, I think more like 12% are totally straight
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 25, 2018 7:23 PM |
Oh it's way more than that, trust me. They fool me every time.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 25, 2018 7:30 PM |
Financial areas have the gayest straight men on record. These are men who have someone brush their teeth while they get a mani-pedi at lunch before they go home to their wife. And they're straight. Real life isn't hollywood.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 25, 2018 7:33 PM |
This topic may be slightly confusing because 90's feminine is 2010's masculine.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 25, 2018 7:35 PM |
R35, getting a pedi is not particularly feminine in 2018. It’s elitist. When I think of flamin or flamboyant, I mainly mean mannerisms, voice, Word usage/lannguage, cultural interests, and clothing style.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 25, 2018 8:18 PM |
I used to see tons of straight looking and sounding gay guys at my watering hole THE WORKS on the upper west side in the mid to late 1990's. The crowds there were really good looking preppie and yuppie types.

Ok, and I swear I don't mean this bitchy, but since when did the term "woman" start to replace "women". As in "people used to assume I was straight all the fucking time, especially woman"
I keep hearing it more and more, especially from Canadians and on college campuses. Is it some third wave feminist jargon like "womyn" or gender studies bullshit? It's fucking obnoxious and awkward sounding.

You're certainly not going to find them in entertainment.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 8, 2021 1:26 PM |
Maybe this a generational thing, but I am finding the more masc a guy looks, the more "purses" fall out their mouth" to borrow a DL phrase that's pretty funny. I'll watch these "daddy" porn videos and the masc top sounds like a total queen. In 2020/2021, I find that a lot of ultra masc guys or previously married to women guys are total bottoms! There are actually a lot of more femme tops out there than you would think. I think Gen Z's whole fluidity thing is becoming more apparent in real life and in porn. Gen Z is brining the 80's dangling earrings back and this the straight guys!
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 20, 2021 8:19 PM |
There are also gay male who are neither feminine or masculine. Ted Schmidt from Queer As Folk was a nerdy guy. He wasn't masc or fem.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 21, 2021 12:51 AM |
Modern Tech nerds and geeks usually are masculine
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 21, 2021 1:00 AM |
Ted Schmidt from QAF was totally considered a "masc top". He wasn't a bro, but he was a passably straight, majority top who used to make fun of how femme Emmet was. They all did, even Emmet.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 21, 2021 1:01 AM |
I did not consider Ted Schmidt masculine. Just because a person is not effeminate that does not make them masculine.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | June 21, 2021 1:06 AM |
I would say Mikey was more asexual or non-masc than Ted, but it's all in the eye of the beholder. I never gave it much thought other I think Gayle is beautiful and go look so hot when they didn't lez him up.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 21, 2021 1:11 AM |
Ted Schmidt isn’t as effeminate as most of the other QAF male characters, but most would not consider him masculine. His mannerisms, interests, culture, and jargon aren’t what most consider to be masculine
by Anonymous | reply 63 | June 21, 2021 1:11 AM |
Hey now - I happen to be gay and am pretty straight guy masculine . I only wear flannel (and only ow. 5 shirts and 2 pairs of jeans), for fun I rebuild old cars, I love camping and fishing, and most of my friends are straight guys (I’m a 90s grunge kid… so that covers music). I can’t shave and I grew my hair out in 1993 and just like it long. It’s not that I am against most of the stereotypes for being a gay man- it’s just not me. And yes, I’ve dated feminine guys, I am a top (am 6’10- bottoming is uncomfortable), but that’s just who I am.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | June 21, 2021 1:47 PM |
I dress like a cowboy most days, so yeah, I usually pass. But, if I have a drink or smoke some pot, I revert to my natural nelly nature. None of this means I won’t put my boot heel in yer fucking face.

You Dress like a cowboy everyday?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 21, 2021 2:00 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 21, 2021 2:03 PM |
It's sort of fascinating to see how fucked up many DLers are that they assume that straight guys are all beer swilling, sports obsessed lugs who wear dingy sports-logo t-shirts and are unable to converse about anything other than tits and football.
Not sure if that's from a lifetime of trying to erase anything that might be construed as vaguely gay from their habits or no knowing any actual hetereosexual men or living in a small blue collar town or a combination of all three.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | June 21, 2021 2:04 PM |
One of the positives about QAF was that it showed that gay men come in a range of levels of masculinity and that many of us are not instantly clockable as gay the way say, Will and Jack were.
There are plenty of guys, gay and straight, like Ted Schmidt, who are sort of nerdy, are not into sports or fashion and thus, it seems, confuse many DLers.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | June 21, 2021 2:08 PM |
Many of the modern lgbt community's arguments fall apart when scrutinized. e.g. if genital preference is bigotry, and disliking femme guys is also bigotry, then it logically follows that gay men not wanting to have sex with cis women is in fact a preference that can be unlearned
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 8, 2021 1:37 AM |
When I was about 20 I worked at a store with some teenagers, including a very cute guy named Conor. He used to whisper to me, "I think he's a member of the faggotry" whenever some gay-acting customer came in. I used to think that was really funny, him not knowing I was gay.
I always loved Dana Carvey on SNL as the "effeminate heterosexual" - those were great skits.

I used to see lots of Preppie guys and Yuppie guys at the Works on the Upper West Side of Manhattan ca. 1995 that would easily pass for straight. They were not muscular but they were good looking well dressed well educated and on the masculine side.
