by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 31, 2018 3:42 AM |
There is no one in political journalism, let alone a titan like this dude, who could earnestly and honest write a “love fest” about Trump’s White House. This may not be as damning or as gossipy/trashy as Fire And Fury, but it will not be a “love fest”.
I’ll bet you any money, R1.

Bernstein is progressive true, but Woodward wil burn Donald at the stake for the damage he has done to the GOP. It is a shame they werent Collaborating but Trumps Treasonous Conspiracy utter incompetence should be terrifying for America.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 31, 2018 4:09 AM |
Yes, a book from someone who was well known 45 years ago will be the thing that changes people's opinions.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 31, 2018 4:14 AM |
Dear Deplorable posters he did it once before and he has learned many lessons since.
He wont change the minds of assholes 30%’er like you - but he sure will quite an impact with Americans that read newspapers and read books. That would be everyone but you - the Deplorable 30%.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 31, 2018 4:23 AM |
R9, nothing but NOTHING will change the minds of the Deplorable Base. Nothing. If Trump is found to have murdered a pre-teen after raping her and paying for her abortion, his cult members will find a way to rationalize it.
The book will be great, I’m sure.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 31, 2018 4:27 AM |
He's going to expose the fact that Rump uses a magic 8-ball to make all key policy decisions. You heard it here first!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 31, 2018 4:34 AM |
Illegitimate’s base of Deplorables is like this : 80% of 33% of American voters.
That leaves 20% of Republicans that despise all things Trump Sleezy Crime Family, TeaParty Russian Lovers and Russian White Nationalist NRA Crazy BeJeezus fools.
So Donald really does only have a minority of a minority compared to Independents and Dems. He’s finished and this book will be a fracking BLOCKBUSTER.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 31, 2018 5:33 AM |
Bob Woodward is still widely read by influential people and his books regularly make the best seller list. He is often on the Meet the Press show and national public radio. He is far from a has been.

I'm reading "The Lost Tycoon", a book about trump written back in the early nineties. I'm not very far in, but it is enjoyably bitchy. Of course, it's very easy to be negative about trump, because it's all true.
What is really eerie is trump is running the White House [italic]exactly[/italic] like he ran his businesses back then. That includes creating unnecessary problems that his staff has to clean up, a notoriously short attention span (one of his staffers said it was about 26 seconds), pitting staff against each other and paranoia. It's just baffling beyond measure how this complete loser was able to create any wealth for himself at all. It seems all he knows to do is fuck things up. How did he ever succeed?

R16 are you seriously asking that questions? Re: His “Wealth” was made by stealing and lying. He was the only developer to go bankrupt in Atlantic City. He overspent and refused to pay his contractor. You can make a lot of money that way. As the years rolled by the bills due vs money coming in was so skewed he decided to take his company public, selling shares. Once public deplorables snapped up plenty - he declared bankruptcy and kept the money paid.
And now it is Russia Olegarchs for whom he has been laundering money. Like selling a $40Mill mansion w/oligarch buys for $90Mill. Real Estate is a great tool for laundering money.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 31, 2018 2:13 PM |
Don’t forget the multiple bailouts from Fred Trump. He would’ve lost those casinos a long time before the bankruptcies if his father hadn’t been floating him money to keep it going.
are you seriously asking that questions? Re: His “Wealth” was made by stealing and lying.
I was seriously asking, because during the 80's before he ran into trouble, you wouldn't believe the lavishness of his lifestyle. It was incredible how he lived and the amount of property that had his name on it. The author hasn't said if he was licensing his name at that point. I know he's a grifter, but the point I was trying to make is for a colossal fuck up he has successfully grifted on an unbelievable scale.

Even if the book slams DJT, it will only endear him even more with his Deplorable fan base. They'll just view it as another liberal establishment hatchet job on their boy. Same way with Amarosa's forthcoming tome.

R3' Your point is what exactly? The Rule of Law is what matters - everything he has done is tainted with criminality. What such a minority thinks doesnt matter. He will resign, be impeached or removed from office other ways.
Let’s focus on POS just proposing a Billion dollar tax cut for billionaires and millionaires. That just might do it for him with that crowd.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 31, 2018 11:34 PM |
All the juicy excerpts in Fire and Fury have been posted online but you really need to read the book to understand how **relentlessly** chaotic Trump's WH is. There are some questions about accuracy though. I'll be interested to see the Woodward version.

What seems most remarkable in this new Woodward book is exactly what seemed remarkable in the previous Woodward books, each of which was presented as the insiders’ inside story and each of which went on to become a number-one bestseller: these are books in which measurable cerebral activity is virtually absent.
Yes, a book from someone who was well known 45 years ago will be the thing that changes people's opinions.
Yes, because the persistent journalistic digging which led to the resignation of a President in disgrace; and the iconic scandal of Watergate which has been cited since Trump dubiously took office; these are negligible facts when considering the author of this new book.
The book is sure to have no impact, so shouldn't have been written. Far better just to let Trump keep degrading his country, without comment, because he 'won.'
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 4, 2018 3:49 PM |

R45, while Omarosa's book was vindictive and catty, and she was out for a quick payday, she didn't make up anything. And she has the tapes to prove it. Woodward, however, is well respected and has credibility. He never would have released his book if it wasn't 100% accurate. He is meticulous in presenting facts. And no one is moving on from Omarosa. If anything, Woodward's book will just reinforce what she has written as the truth.

A few days ago I was at a restaurant counter that I go to regularly. Two guys in their 70s (know one of them) across from each other got on the topic of Trump. The one guy said he was having access problems getting affordable steel for his business. He mentioned that tariffs are the reason. He then added it is temporary because Trump is fixing everything. He declared Trump is the best President ever and supports everything he does. The other guy agreed and added Trump is the greatest and must stay President as long as he wants.
I did not engage them in the conversation. It is useless trying to argue with them or present them with facts. These Trump supporters watch Fox, and nothing but Fox, for their news/further indoctrination. They adore Trump's authoritarian behavior and think his name-calling and personal attacks show strength and toughness.
To the point, agree that 33% or so of the electorate will not budge from their enthusiasm for Trump. It is cultist. The option is to out-vote them. Republican House and Senate members up for election/re-election must be defeated in large numbers.

From what I hear on tv & Twitter, it’s nothing new. We know Trump’s advisors call him an idiot. That’s nothing new. We know he’s got the intellect of a 5th grader. All the other books on Trump told us this stuff and he’s still there. His base won’t abandon him. The GOP won’t abandon him. This book won’t change any minds anymore than Wolff’s or Manigault’s did. In fact, it’s all sounding so repetitious it might be making people weary of hearing it.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | September 5, 2018 12:24 AM |
People like myself who hate Trump will never become weary of hearing it. Nor will we become weary of seeing the White House in damage control mode.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | September 5, 2018 2:46 AM |
R78 there is definitely truth to your points. It’s not a lot that’s new and people are being ground down. But I will offer why I think this is different. This book gives broader context to the overall atmosphere at the WH, and it is really the first unarguably credible book on the Trump WH.
Will this change Deplorables/the GOP? Nope, they’re ignorant. But what it will do is fire up OUR base. Our base is already toasty warm, and this turns the flame up a few notches. So the people who vote Dem are actually becoming activists within their own little Circles of Influence. Grassroots. And isn’t that how Democracy is supposed to work? People are actually getting off their asses, getting involved, taking risks in conversations with people, encouraging them to get knowledgeable and to vote.
So this won’t influence his base, but it will energize our base, which will in turn affect the elections. This war will be won by getting out Dem voters, PARTICULARLY for the midterm. This book came at the perfect time — and that mother fucker knows it. I am thankful for much of Woodward’s career, can’t say I have personal feelings positive/negative toward him. But this book? Bobby W., lemme pinch your cheeks and give you a kiss!!!
