General Foods International Coffees

The commercials always made it sound so chic. Was it crap? Do they still make it?

Trivia: the wonderful singer Phoebe Snow sang the vocals on those commercials. “Celebrate The Moments of Your Life”!

Weren’t they mostly sugar?

by Anonymousreply 3July 29, 2018 1:58 AM

They’re flavored instant coffee. Yes they were crap.

by Anonymousreply 4July 29, 2018 2:00 AM

They were more like coffee flavored hot chocolate than coffee.

If you thought of them in that light, they were fine for instant hot chocolate.

Thank you OP. I never drank the stuff, but my late mother drank Cafe Vienna all the time. You brought back fond memories of her for me tonight.

You can still order some of the flavors on Amazon. I haven't seen it in a store for a long time. I really loved them when I was young, and I hadn't been exposed to good coffee, although I think I would freak out now with all the sugar.

The orange cappuccino was divine.

The commercials themselves were very lesbian according to one of my deranged friends.

IIRC, you’d never mix a full teapot of it like in those commercials, though. How many cups were you going to drink??

I just bought some a month ago from the end cap in Target. They tasted better in the 80s because we Americans didn’t know good coffee then. It’s basically coffee flavored sugar.

My sister brought me a few tins a few years ago. I may have one in my spice cabinet still.

It’s sugary, flavored instant coffee and I swear they added a sudsing agent to make the “foam” on the cappuccino.

OP, they still exist. There was a rebranding 9 years ago. The new name is Maxwell House International Coffee.

Was there.a mint flavored one? I think that’s the one my mom liked. The 80s, LOL.

by Anonymousreply 14August 1, 2018 12:17 AM

I think there was, r14. Right now I have the Pumpkin Spice Latte one that my sister brought me. It’s unopened because I don’t drink that stuff.
