It’s not necessarily the “pain” of fame that caused her repeated drug abuse. That might have been her fate (either genetically or thru her family experiences) even if she wasn’t a public figure. Most people try to self-medicate their pain away thru a variety of behaviors. Unfortunately, some individuals have addictive personalities, and chose deadlier “meds”/behaviors.

Anyhow, everyone here who is going on and on about how being famous should be recompense for any life irritants, or how fame drives you to addiction, here’s the deal: Either you are born with a propensity for addiction, or you’re not.

The problem is that no one knows what category they fall into, when first exposed to drugs and/or booze.

Before I ever touched a drug or a drink, I was a straight A student. I was involved in tons of extra-curricular activities, I was well socialized with my classmates, and I was involved in sports. School was my only relationship with “normal”, because as soon as I got home, I had to deal with a mentally ill parent, who subjected me to lots of abuse. It was actually pretty out of the ordinary that I kept it together as much as I did.

When I was first exposed to “self medicating “, it was like something went “on”. A switch had been pulled, and I immediately was taken away from all of the crap I was dealing with at home.

Drinking and using, immediately became the best coping mechanism at my disposal, at that time. I can honestly say that I was addicted instantly. I liked the way drugs felt, and there was no turning back.

People don’t have to be rich or poor, fat or thin, smart or dumb, or even abused at home, or not abused at home, in order to become addicted.

If you have an addictive personality, and are struggling in an area of your life, you are, unfortunately, likely to become an addict, once you are exposed to your drug of choice. Even if things are going great, you too, can become an addict, if that addiction gene is in your physiological makeup.

The only way to get through it is complete abstinence from drugs and alcohol. It doesn’t matter whether you become abstinent via a 12 Step program, or whatever. You can never drink, or use, again.

It's all mental with her. I don't mean she is crazy (I know she is bipolar) but she seems to never have been comfortable in her own skin. Makes me think about someone like Kelly Clarkson. That girl has gone through those periods where she was so overweight (usually after a pregnancy) but she just continued to perform, live her life and enjoy her life. From the outside it probably looked like I had a decent life, but I have abused substances because I was in desperation mentally, and thinking of killing myself. Drink / drugs alleviated that in a way my anti-depressant meds still don’t.

One of the most significant tattoos of Demi is “Stay Strong” written on her wrist which she got in 2011. This particular ink is very important to her as it reminds her to be positive. Yes, they most likely blood tested her, but the cops don’t really have any legit reason to be given a warrant.

It’s not illegal to have “taken” a substance. It’s illegal to be in possession of it, which they didn’t find any evidence of at her house. Or the drugs may have been prescribed to her, which isn’t illegal.

She wasn’t driving, or committing another crime while high, and she wasn’t out in public while intoxicated. Not seeing how they have evidence of anything illegal here.

If they can show the other people present destroyed evidence, then that might be an issue.

Also, some states have enacted laws that protect others who are present at an overdose from being prosecuted for anything... to encourage bystanders to call for help rather than run and leave the person to die. Not sure if that is the case in CA.

It wasn't a PR stunt. That's a very dumb move, and her PR has been very crafty to try to protect her image. When she went into rehab, they tried to spin it on her eating disorder is why she went, and there she found out why she punched the dancer: because she was bipolar. They may have mentioned the "partying" the night before, but they never mentioned drug use being the reason for her rehab stint. That all came out later, and it turns out that it was the primary reason for her going. She ODed on heroin, and her "friends" (she really needs to get in a better circle) removed the evidence. How noble. And I have no reason to believe otherwise, nor will I believe anything her "people" put out.

I’m also hearing that even though the media is reporting that Demi is going to rehab, she has no real intention or interest in going back to rehab at this time.

Here’s the problem: once you reset your addiction off, it’s almost impossible to actually gauge when you will actually even consider getting sober again, much less actually getting sober again. My relapse lasted 5 years, and the only reason that it went on that long, is because I wasn’t doing drugs, and I couldn’t stop drinking on my own. I had to go into a rehab for over a month, and be heavily sedated for the first week, in order to stop the actual craving for booze. And the only reason that I finally did it, is because I was losing shit, like my job, and an intervention was pulled together just at the right time.

I’ve never done heroin or opiates. I have no idea what that entails, if one were to try to stop without medical intervention and an actual rehab stay.

If she doesn’t go in, she’s using again, ASAP. Even if she goes, she’ll be off and running as soon as she gets out, if she’s not ready to stop.

If you’re lucky enough to get sober, please try to actually stay sober. Relapse isn’t easily managed in most cases, and even though some do get sober again, most do not.

But as people not in the spotlight, you don't know how much pressure there is to stay thin from everyone- stylists ("If you go down to a size 0-4, we can get you this designer), managers, agents, casting directors and fans.

My sister is paranoid schizophrenic, and whatever drugs that she takes, gives her this ungodly appetite- I don't think she even chews- I've seen her go back for thirds, and she's maybe 40 pounds overweight. Then she gets depressed about the weight and tries to go off her meds, and goes really crazy.

R558, I actually know a guy who did just that. He was GORGEOUS as a young man, & came from money. Anyhow, he needed a new kidney by the time he hit 30, because he had done massive amounts of blow, and drank like a fish.

He got on the list, and was extremely lucky to get himself a new kidney.

He relapsed several years into his new kidney. Last I heard, he’s on dialysis, and STILL drink. Now he’s popping pain pills instead of snorting coke. His family has completely cut him off, and he lives on SSI. He lost his looks, too. Looks like total crap now.

I no longer speak with him, so I’m not sure about his current situation, but last we spoke, he was almost homeless. I assume he’s still alive, because no one has called or sent out a text saying otherwise.

Addiction and alcoholism are a bit h. Some of us relapse and make it back without much damage, and some of us end up staying drunk and/or high until we die, and some of us die prematurely as a result.

Being young gives us a sense of complacency and invincibility. It should not. Plenty of people die early due to heroin, pills, & even booze.

I wish these girls the best. I hope Demi can get her life together. But heroin can and will take you out at a moment’s notice.

CNN has acquired a seemingly redacted recording of a 911 call related to Lovato's emergency.
