Most rational adults would regard this as a teachable moment, rather than a use this and ruin his potential career type of moment. Kids are stupid by nature, but they should still be protected, and adults (preferably his parents) have an obligation to teach them right from wrong.

His CBS sitcom ("Me, Myself, and I") met with very quick cancellation last year, and the last remaining unaired episodes were burned off this past month.

There is an underlying nastiness and meanness of spirit in his comments that is disturbing, especially given the pushback from the other person, as well as the fact that he thought it was private between someone he trusted at the time (girlfriend) and him, so was probably more apt to say what he really thought without a false veneer of sincerity or pr gloss.

Given his age at the time, I think he ought to get the benefit of the doubt. Although I'm not comfortable that this is something that age will fix, I think this guy should get a pass - at least until further behavior and comments come to light.

What really makes me uncomfortable is that it raises the question at what age should he be held accountable. The kid in "Homophobic Trumpster loses his college scholarship" was only a few years older, yet I argued he should be held accountable and the school had every right to revoke his scholarship. So, the age is somewhere between 14 to 18 where someone ought to know better (or shows his true colors, as the case may be).

However, his age makes growth and change not only more likely, but almost assured. There are few people who would pass the test if comments we made at that age were brought to light today.

He had to give an apology not long ago when a video of him "smoking weed" (he wasn't inhaling, hence the quotation marks) cam to light. I mention this because it seems odd that a teenager longing for the good ol' days of the 60s is the same who records himself "smoking" a joint. Mind you, hypocrisy tends to be a trademark of that good ol' days crowd.

I'm guessing his parents are pretty conservative and he's picked this up from them. Seems odd though as you'd think he'd be super-liberal, given his family (producer Brian Grazer is his uncle)
