This is especially depressing, considering the strong anti-Trump populist stance of the Daily News.
This was inevitable when Morty Zuckerman sold it to Tronc/Chicago Tribune company. They're a huge corporation with a history of right wing politics currently owned by hedge fund mangers and private equity firms. Newspaper are in trouble unfortunately, and this is the perfect excuse to restructure...

As a New Yorker who sees the Daily News on newsstands everyday, it really isn't much better than the Post. It is run by a right wing zionist named Mortimer Zuckerman who is an Israel firster like Sheldon Adelson and Haim Saban. He endorsed Romeny over Obama simply because of Obama's supposed "anti-Israel" actions (which is absolute nonsense....no anti-Israel politician is going to give them billions a dollars a year in weapons contracts). He ordered his paper to lay off Trump after he moved the Jerusalem embassy this year. He also has extremely racist views in general that make their way to the editorial pages. Everyone ignores this because it's not as bad as Rupert Murdoch's rag, but if his paper goes under, then good riddance.

R2 must be posting from 2016. Zuckerman hasn't own the Daily News for a while.

It is always sad to see the continued decline of newspapers. A strong boots-on-the-ground journalist structure is important to society.

R2, I think it's been a while since you've seen the Daily News. They have not been easy on Trump at all.

The end of journalism and fact-based news. I fear for what will happen to democracy. “Fake News” is just the beginning of the end of reason in politics. Thank God I’ve only got 20 years left on this planet.

r6 is CONCERNED!!!

Local news organizations are taking a hard hit r7. Sure the NYTimes and WaPo are doing okay, but how many journalists work at your local paper now? Far fewer than what used to be the case.

And it's not just small-town papers that are being gutted, r8. The Boston Globe is a mere shadow of itself. I rarely bother to read it anymore.

Just how often do you count your chickens r6?

This is reason for concern, especially since the news appeals to a blue-collar demographic. But I don't think it's yet time to be glad you're dying soon.

It is sad, and I agree with what was said upthread that this probably has to do with the new owners' right-wing tendencies.
I don't buy tabloids, but I love the way the NYDN comes for Trump at his own level (i.e.: LOW).

What am I going to line my birdcage with now??

R13 photos of your lovely son Jeremy in the nude?

As much as I want newspapers to stick around, they are the cause of their undoing. I used to be a loyal reader of the NYDN. But when stupid A-Rod shenanigans made the front page instead of real news, that's when I dropped them.
